021 | I Know It's You

Haylee walked out to her car with the bracelet on her wrist, she was hoping that by wearing it, the 'saviour' would reveal themself. She pulled her keys from her bag when she heard footsteps behind her, she lifted her head only to be grabbed by Tony. "Tony, you don't have to do this," Haylee begged as Tony dragged her to his car, forcing her into the back seat before locking her in and driving away from the CCPN. Haylee continuously tried to get through to Tony, she hoped their past and his feelings would help in the situation.

"Tony, you don't really want to hurt me, do you?" Haylee asked him but Tony ignored her, focusing on the road ahead of him as they sped down the street. Haylee knew her powers wouldn't work on him if she was to steel out, it would only be dangerous for both of them so she had to resort to talking. "Shut up," Tony spoke lowly but Haylee got the message, she slowly pulled her phone from her pocket and sent an SOS to Joe with Tony's name.

"What are you doing?!" Tony shouted before grabbing her wrist, without noticing the grip was beyond tight causing Haylee to wince knowing a dark bruise would form. Tony crushed Haylee's phone in his hand before pulling up to a familiar building to Haylee, she swallowed slowly as she took notice of where they were. "Remember this place, Haylee?" Tony asked as he held her wrist, dragging her down the hall of their old school.

"So what's the plan here, Tony?" Haylee asked him before smirking, "You finally gonna go for that G.E.D?" Tony scoffed before pinning her to the wall, holding both of her wrists. "You want a plan? How's this? You write about the Flash, right? Now you're gonna write about me," Tony explained to her with a sly smirk. "You just abducted me, Tony. Why would I do that?" Haylee asked him. "Because the Flash is dead," Tony replied smugly while Haylee's heart stopped.

Haylee began to shake as she shook her head, pain erupting in her chest as she repeated no but Tony just smiled like he had won a trophy. "Squashed like a little bug by me. So if you don't want the same thing to happen to you, you're gonna tell the whole world that there's a new big man on campus!" Tony cheered before leaning closer to her, "And I'm just getting started." Haylee closed her eyes and took slow breaths before headbutting Tony while he wasn't steel.

Tony stumbled back while Haylee scrambled to make a run for it but Tony grabbed her waist and slammed her to the ground. "You could have anybody write about you, Tony. Why the hell ask me?" Haylee asked him as she held her side. "'Cause I like you, Haylee. Always have," Tony expressed to her. "Some way of showing it," Haylee replied before showing him her bruised wrist. Tony's face morphed from smug to sad as he helped her up, she backed away from him.

Tony winced at the faux feared look in Haylee's eyes before stepping closer to her, "I'm sorry. I didn't want to hurt you like that. Anger has never been something I could control." Haylee's back hit the wall and she noticed the fire alarm by her head while Tony was distracted by her bruised wrist that he was looking at. "You should have been more careful," Haylee replied before kicking him away and pulling on the fire alarm causing the loud siren to echo through the halls.

Haylee ran around the corner in an attempt to escape Tony, but in that process, she managed to reach a dead end. "Of course..." Haylee whined before Tony grabbed her arm and pulled her towards him, he growled at her before shoving her against the lockers. "You try anything like that again and I'm gonna leave more than a bruise," Tony threatened while Haylee held her sore arm close to her chest, she took slow breaths to calm the energy threatening to appear.

"Tony, turn yourself in before things get worse. It's not too late," Haylee expressed to the man as he paced back and forth in front of her. "Yeah, it is," Tony replied to her, he refused to look at her. "Cops are already looking for me, so get ready to cover the showdown of a lifetime 'cause I'm not going out without a fight," Tony expressed but the sound of wind caught Haylee's attention. "Good, 'cause you just found one," Flash's voice gained their attention and Haylee found herself letting out a sigh of relief.

"You just won't stay dead," Tony seethed out. "Come to save your little fangirl?" Tony teased as he stood closer to Haylee. "This is between us, let her go," Flash snapped at him. "Oh, I could, but I'd rather make her watch while I break every bone in your body," Tony threatened while Haylee frowned. Flash grabbed Haylee with his speed and moved her away from the fight, "Wait here." Haylee nodded at him before watching him rush back to Tony.

Haylee felt her heart pounding and against her better judgement, she got up and made her way towards the fight. "I've known guys like you. Peaked in high school, never got over it. All these powers, and look at you! Bully then, bully now," Flash riled Tony up, the man of steel punched Flash knocking him back. "No!" Haylee exclaimed as she watched before her heart stopped seeing Flash speed away from them. "There goes your hero," Tony taunted as he looked at Haylee.

Haylee's eyes widened as she watched the blur speed back in, punching Tony creating a sonic boom that knock the man of steel out. Haylee rushed over to Flash as he kneeled down holding his hand. "I think I broke my hand," Flash whined but Haylee laughed. She carefully held his hand making him wince before he looked up at her, she was carefully moving his hand as it healed. Flash's eyes landed on the bruise on her wrist, he carefully lifted it and frowned.

"I'll be okay, I promise. Thank you... for saving me," Haylee spoke before the two locked gazes, Haylee's heart was pounding as she went to lean in. "Always, Hayles..." Flash responded which made Haylee freeze in place. Her mind blanked for a moment before every memory hit her, the only person who ever called her Hayles with such affection was... "Barry?" Haylee whispered making Flash's eyes widen.

"W-What?" Flash replied before clearing his throat, footsteps coming towards them meant that the cops had arrived. "I gotta go..." Flash informed her before standing up and moving towards the unconscious Tony. "Wait!" Haylee demanded as she looked at the hero but he sighed. "Meet me at our spot," Flash responded before taking Tony away. Joe and Eddie approached the corner where Haylee stood staring at the spot where Flash once stood.

"Haylee?" Eddie spoke before resting his hand on her shoulder, the girl turned and collapsed into his arms. "I got you," Eddie cooed as he rubbed her back, Joe frowned at the sight of the bruise before the two detective's led Haylee out of the school and to the ambulance for the paramedics to check her over. After almost twenty minutes of convincing, Haylee finally managed to leave the scene and she headed straight to the CCPN.

"Are you okay?" Flash asked the moment he got there, Haylee stood watching the sunrise with her arms crossed against her chest. "Haylee?" Flash spoke softly as he approached her, he placed his hand softly on her arm but she jerked away from him. "This whole time... It was you," Haylee spoke softly but Flash cleared his throat, "I don't understand what you are saying." Haylee laughed dryly before turning to look at him.

"Give up the act, Barry. I know it's you," Haylee stated harshly. Barry sighed before removing the mask, he looked up at her with a sad expression while she stumbled back covering her mouth as a choked sob left her throat. "Was it a game for you?" Haylee asked him, Barry's eyes widened and he immediately shook his head. "No! No way! It was never a game to me," Barry defended as his heart broke at the sight of tears in her eyes.

"I... understand why you would keep this from me... To protect me but... to get close to me, to let me kiss you..." Haylee whimpered out quietly. "I-I wasn't expecting that... I let the moment get the best of me, I won't lie," Barry quickly replied as he stepped closer to her but Haylee stepped back from him. "You let the moment get the best of you?! You used me for some sick and twisted game... like the praise eased your heroic ego!" Haylee snapped out of anger.

"No! I wouldn't do that to you, Hayles. I would never hurt you," Barry defended with tears forming in his own eyes. "You did hurt me," Haylee whimpered out in a broken tone. "I'm sorry..." Barry whispered. "Sorry for what?! For making me fall in love with you!" Haylee snapped loudly before gasping. Both of them went silent as Barry processed the words, something he had always wanted to hear from Haylee, just not like this.

"You're falling in love with me?" Barry asked but Haylee just scoffed. "I was falling for the city's hero, the masked man who saved lives but... that was stupid. Out of everyone in this world, you were the last person I expected to hurt me," Haylee said before shaking her head. Barry sped forward trapping Haylee between him and the wall behind her, "Haylee, you are the last person on this world that I would EVER want to hurt. I kept this from you to protect you, knowing about my identity was dangerous."

Haylee looked straight into his eyes as tears flowed down her cheeks, she watched as his eyes focused on the tear. "What happened tonight with Tony, I couldn't bare the idea of someone with no connection to you doing worse. I genuinely was not expecting the kiss, but Haylee, I don't regret it," Barry expressed before wiping the tears from her face. "I..." Haylee began as she noticed Barry's hopeful face which made her feel terrible.

"I need time away from you... While I understand why you kept it from me, I thought we told each other everything and knowing that you kept something so big from me... I-I just... I can't..." Haylee whimpered out causing Barry's hopeful expression to fall. "I... understand," Barry said before stepping back from Haylee, he kissed her forehead before pulling on his mask and speeding away. Haylee let out a broken sob as she slid down the wall before letting out a quiet scream that sent electricity through the air.

Haylee Brager was hurt. She was pained by the fact that her best friend was the cities hero and never told her, but most of all, she was pained by the fact that the sweet, caring Barry Allen was now capable to fight back. Not that fighting back was a bad thing but she watched what happened to Oliver Queen having the power to fight back, she lived it as Raven and now, she was scared about how this heavy responsibility would affect Barry.

She didn't want him to lose a part of himself to the job. She knew exactly how it could break you when you failed to save an innocent or when someone died because of a choice you made. She knew that he was hurting too but she needed time to understand this before she let her emotions get the best of her. And the moment she got home and crawled into her bed, she was left to process everything that had happened that night and on top of that, she was left to ask herself a very important question; did she have underlying feelings for Barry Allen?

Author Note
Haylee knows... What do you think will happen between them now?

How did you like this chapter?

Also for those readers concerned about Linda, I will not be adding the Linda/Barry relationship however, Jesse will replace Barry's spot in that relationship as it fits the Iris line. Just a heads up!
