018 | Someone Special

Haylee sighed quietly as she flipped the pancake, she leaned to the right and flicked her wrist slightly sending a jolt of lightning into the toaster causing the toast to cook. She was getting better with her abilities and now, she was working on a suit 'cause if The Flash can play hero, then why can't she. "Lavera?" Haylee spoke softly towards the laptop, letting her power run through it allowing Lavera to take form in front of her. "Hello Haylee, how are you feeling this morning?" Lavera asked.

"I feel... alive. It's crazy how well that went but I'm gonna eat breakfast then head to work," Haylee explained as she piled some pancakes onto her plate, covering them in ice cream and berries. "Is that a standard healthy breakfast at four am?" Lavera asked as she leaned towards the table, Haylee had her mouth full. "For me, after an exhausting battle with you inside my laptop for almost seventeen hours before I finally got out..." Haylee looked up at Lavera, "Yes... Yes, it is."

Lavera nodded before looking around the room as Haylee finished eating her breakfast. The Eon Realm was still fascinating to Haylee, she had spent hours researching with Lavera's assistance about possible theories behind the simulation world, but couldn't find an accurate or well-informed theory. "Well, I have to go to work now," Haylee announced before placing her plate in the dishwasher. "If I'm not mistaken, you do not start work until 9 am today," Lavera pointed out with her arms crossed.

"Uh... Well, I'm gonna watch the sunrise on the roof..." Haylee cleared her throat before waving to Lavera as she flickered back into the laptop. Haylee put it on charge and shut it before grabbing her bag, fixing her dress and making her way out to her car. The radio started with morning news about The Flash and the metahuman attacks before letting a pop song play throughout the jeep, Haylee tapped along to the beat as she drove through the city streets.

Haylee smiled softly as she walked into the building, her keys jingling as she put them in her bag. She furrowed her brows at the sound of something moving by her before she was grabbed by the waist, she opened her eyes to see she was standing on the roof with The Flash. "Whoa... I was not expecting that..." Haylee gasped while Flash smirked. "So, why did you request my presence?" Flash asked as he turned towards the sunrise.

"I wanted to ask for some... advice regarding Metahumans," Haylee replied as she walked to stand next to him, her eyes focused on the rising sun despite the urge to look at him. "What do you want to know?" Flash asked as he looked at her, his face blurred to ensure she doesn't notice the face underneath. "The meta's you've met, yourself included, was controlling the power easy or... were there struggles?" Haylee questioned as she closed her eyes, the morning sun beamed towards her.

Flash admired the way the morning sunlight made her tanned skin almost glow, her dark brunette hair was lighter with a small shine as a soft smile rested on her face. "I'm not sure about others, but I've had my personal share of setbacks," Flash answered before looking forward again. "Like what?" Haylee pondered with furrowed brows, a small crease on her forehead as she turned to him slightly. "My metabolism," Flash replied with a small laugh.

Haylee laughed softly, "That would make sense." Flash nodded before the two went silent just admiring the sun as it rose over the city. The two were trapped within their separate thoughts, Flash was busy thinking over all of the memories he had with Haylee desperately searching for a reason to continue keeping his identity a secret or any sighs where she felt the same as him. However, Haylee was stuck trying to decide whether she should tell The Flash about her abilities and her past, her biggest fear is the person underneath the mask and who they might be.

"You mentioned that this isn't for the glory or recognition... So why?" Haylee asked softly, she knew why Arrow fought in Starling but had no idea why Flash did. "Something happened... when I was younger and I... I couldn't do anything to stop it so when I got these abilities..." Flash sighed as he looked at Haylee, his face blurred but she ignored that as she smiled sadly at him. "You had to do something," Haylee finished off for him before looking back at the city.

"If you had similar abilities, would you?" Flash asked curiously, Haylee smirked slightly as she mentally laughed. "I would. I'd want to use my power for good, saving people and protecting them," Haylee expressed before her phone buzzed in her pocket. "Oh, excuse me," Haylee pulled out her phone to see Sebastian calling her. Flash, well Barry, fought the urge to groan in annoyance as he watched Haylee's expression, a smile on her face.

"I'll quickly answer this, is that okay?" Haylee asked, Flash nodded and sped to the side where he could lean against the wall with his arms crossed. "Hey Seb, what's going on?" Haylee spoke casually as she held the phone to her ear, her free arm crossed against her chest with her hand resting in her elbow. "Hey Haylee, I was just wondering if you are free tonight for dinner? I am in town again for a couple of days but I thought I'd put you above work for my abrupt leave," Sebastian expressed.

Haylee thought for a moment, she did have nothing planned for the night and on top of that, she'd be able to eat a good meal and get to know Sebastian more. "I'd love to do dinner tonight, Seb. There's this great restaurant not too far from Jitters that I think you'll like, I've only been a few times but I love their food. It isn't too cheap nor is it too expensive," Haylee explained smiling as she thought back to their first date together.

Behind her, Flash frowned deeply as the man under the mask attempted to ease the pit of jealousy that formed in his stomach. "That sounds great, I'll pick you up around six then," Sebastian offered. "Sounds great! I'll see you then," Haylee smiled before the two bid each other farewell. Haylee placed her phone in her back pocket before turning to Flash, "Sorry about the interruption." Flash shrugged in an attempt to appear unbothered.

"Is he your boyfriend?" Flash inquired innocently as he walked towards Haylee. "Uh, no. We've been a few dates but nothing official. I do like him, from what I know about him so far but his dedication to work ...though admirable... limits his commitment to a proper relationship so we are just seeing where it goes," Haylee expressed with a small smile. "That's good," Flash replied quickly before backtracking slightly at her raised brow, "I mean... That you are taking it slow and seeing where it goes, getting to know each other and such."

Haylee laughed as she crossed her arms, her denim jacket keeping her cool under the sun. "Well considering the only person I've ever dated turned out to be a total jackass, I thought that getting to know the person first would be a good idea," Haylee expressed before smiling widely. "What's with the smile?" Flash asked, a smile appearing on his own face. "My best friend, Barry... He, uh, always tells me that I'll know the right person by the way they make my life shine," Haylee explained with a fond smile.

"This Barry... Is he the friend you meant that night?" Flash inquired as Haylee turned to the view of the city. "Yeah, he is. Barry has been my best friend since we were barely eleven years old, I don't know what I'd do without him. Before I left for college, we had a minor argument but when I came back... it was like it never happened and I was so glad," Haylee expressed as her cheeks tinted pink, Flash approached her stopping a step behind her. "Tell me more about him," Flash asked softly.

"What do you want to know? His favourite colour, favourite food, favourite movie? I know just about everything about him," Haylee turned her head to the side using her peripheral vision to look at Flash. "Sounds like you really care about him," Flash teased, though the man under the mask was cursing to himself for taking advantage of the situation for his own gain. "There's just something about Barry Allen that pulls you in and makes you want to stay. And if I ever lost him... I think I'd literally go insane," Haylee expressed openly.

Haylee and Flash stood face to face, though his face was still mostly blurred, only a few inches away from each other. Both hearts were beating fast in their chests as they subconsciously moved closer to each other. "Come in, Flash!" Cisco's voice echoed through Flash's earpiece causing him to move back from Haylee, the brown-eyed brunette stepped back realising what almost happened.

Flash cleared his throat, "Sorry, I have to go." Haylee nodded wordlessly before watching as he sped off through the city. Haylee closed her eyes and let out a slow breath as her heart pounded within her chest, she swallowed dryly before opening her eyes and looking towards the now risen sun. She couldn't believe what almost happened between them, the moment felt so right and it was like some invisible force was pushing them together; she almost kissed The Flash.

"Where were you this morning?" Jesse asked as he approached Haylee with Barry and Iris in tow, the three sat down with her at the table in Jitters. "Huh?" Haylee looked up from her laptop at them with raised brows. "I woke up to an empty house, and you usually sleep in later than me but you had left," Jesse explained with his arms crossed analyzing his sister who shook her head. "I met up with a friend," Haylee shrugged before looking back to her laptop where she was writing up another science-related article for the CCPN.

"Uh-huh, and who was this friend?" Iris teased with a smirk on her face. Haylee gave her a deadpanned look before focusing back on the article while Iris and Jesse shared a look, Barry watched them closely. "Okay, seriously. You only have a few friends," Jesse expressed with his hands moving as he spoke. "Yeah, come on... Was it a spicy meetup?" Iris taunted while wriggling her brows making Haylee smile in amusement but stay silent.

"All right, you did this to yourself," Jesse warned before sitting up straight. "It wasn't Cisco because he sleeps in till at least seven. It wasn't Caitlin because she refuses to speak to anyone before her morning coffee which she ritually drinks at six-thirty on the dot, it wasn't Dr Wells because you typically only conversate about science and that's after conventions that you go to," Jesse acknowledged. "It wasn't Barr because he was sleeping still nor was it me because I was still asleep, so who was it?" Iris asked.

"Huh... I need to make more friends clearly," Haylee teased the two before drinking the last of her third latte before saving her finished article. Barry laughed while Jesse and Iris groaned in annoyance at Haylee's vague words. "As your brother, I demand to know who it was because I also know it wasn't Sebastian because he's only just gotten back in town and has made plans with you for dinner tonight," Jesse demanded with his finger pointed at Haylee.

"Oh, my God! You are going on a third date with Sebastian and you're only telling me now?!" Iris shrieked startling the three. "Uh, yeah... I've been busy working so it slipped my mind to tell you. I would've told you eventually when I inevitably ask you to help me pick an outfit," Haylee pointed out closing her laptop and leaning back in her seat slightly. "I'll definitely be helping you with your outfit, but aren't you feeling nervous?" Iris asked.

Haylee furrowed her brows as Jesse and Barry looked to Iris with a similar confused expression. "Nervous?" Jesse asked, he wasn't certain he wanted the answer. "Well... The third date is where you become a little more... intimate," Iris explained to them causing Haylee's eyes to widen before she shook her head. "Iris... no," Haylee stated before putting her laptop into her bag. "Why not? He's kind, good-looking and smart," Iris grinned while Haylee let out a huff.

"I'm not... We are taking things slow, there isn't anything official. The agreement was no ties, just flow with it," Haylee shrugged before pulling her bag strap over her shoulder. "Now if you'd excuse me, I've gotta get back to work," Haylee smiled to them before turning to walk away. "Hey, wait!" Jesse called out, Haylee turned back to Jesse and raised her hand for him to continue. "Who was the friend?" He smirked making her roll her eyes. "Someone special," Haylee replied vaguely before leaving Jitters, Barry's stomach filling with butterflies.

Author Note
Just working on some original scenes between the canon script. I'm kind of excited to see how Haylee reacts when she learns who is under the mask. How do you think she'll respond?

Who is your favourite character in The Flash?
