10. sorry
The team was summoned on their day off. Jocelyn was out for the night, a date. But shortly cut it short as she was called into the station. She had her bag of work clothes to change over her shoulder. Amanda whistled as she walks in wearing strappy heels and a black dress. Jocelyn blushes.
"Don't you look pretty." She smiles. "Whos the lucky guy?" Amanda spins in het chair.
"He's actually a close friend of-" She sees Sonny walk in, Jocelyn shuts up. Sonny and Finn immediately saw the dressed up detective. Stunned to see that she even has dresses, since they were so used to see her in her dress pants and button ups.
"Ruined the mood?" Finn laughs.
"Its fine. Im going to get dressed." Jocelyn avoids Sonny as she walks past him. Sonny heads turns as she goes to change.
"You know Carisi, it's getting hard to believe that you don't have a thing for Peña." Finn tells him. Sonny didn't say a thing, just walked away and get everything ready for the new case.
Benson had showed them a show called Americas Worst Crimes, talking about how a girl was raped in Hudson University by some frat boys.
"This is what you do with your sundays off?" Sonny paused the show, asking Benson.
"Me and Gracie Mansion apparently." Benson turns. "And now 1PP is pissed because they got caught flat footed on national TV."
"Americas Worst Crimes has a huge following. This is gonna go viral."
"Yeah i looked into it. The report says the attack happened in December, but NYPD's got no record of a complaint from the vic or Hudson U." Sonny stands up.
"She did say that Hudson University ignored her. And god knows we've been down that road before." Liv sighs.
"I know that the tail wags the dog, but these TV shows are in it for ratings. We don't know that any of this even happened."
"Yeah. Im all for overtime, but dont we have enough work to do?"
"Guys, this isn't LMZ, it is a legitimate national news magazine. They interviewed her. She disclosed. And i got a call from Dodds, who got a call from the mayor. So we are going to investigate."
"Sorry to break this but we don't even know who this girl is." Jocelyn gets up as Liv leaves.
"Americas worst crime does. Take Carisi with you Peña." She shouts. Jocelyn looks up at the tall man and he nods to go. She grabs her coat and they meet up in their car to go find out who this Jane is.
"Detectives, im guessing you're here about the Hudson story." Skip the guy who runs the show says as he comes out of the room.
"Yeah well, you got everybody talking, including our boss." Sonny says as they follow him.
"Well that's gratifying. And not just ghetto Peabody buzz, but for AWC to be in a position to amplify whats going on behind those ivy walls."
"Well you amplify, we come to investigate." Peña smiles. "So we are going to need to talk to Jane." Skip turns and stops.
"Well, i'd love to help, especially with what that girl had to suffer through. but i can't give you her name."
"Your report says that she was ganged raped. Don't you withhold any information about this, because I can take you down and I can personally make-" Sonny steps up, holding Jocelyn back to make her stop.
"Im sorry, shes new, LA, Homicide, trying to keep her anger level down, you know how feisty they get down in LA, always trying to be the bad guy." Sonny cracks a laugh. Jocelyn didn't think it was funny. "Just give us her name so we can speak with her and see if she wants us to go on with this."
"Im not falling on my journalistic sword. The only way Jane would talk was if I promised her anonymity. Shes scared to death of those fraternity boys."
"We can talk to a judge and make sure they will compel you to hand over your sources and the footage." Jocelyn crosses her arms. Skip sighs. "Which will it be Skippy?"
"Alright, look, Ill kick the footage request upstairs. Thats not my call. As for Jane, i can put you in touch with the woman who shopped me the story. Maybe she can convince Jane to talk to NYPD."

Sonny and Jocelyn head to Hudson University to talk to some teacher whos close to this Jane. But on the ride there and up to the university, it was very quiet. Jocelyn wasn't very happy with what Sonny said to Skip about her.
"Professor Dillon?" Jocelyn said to the woman standing out of her classroom door. "Hi, Detective Peña and Detective Carisi." Peña shows her the badge. "We are from SVU." Dillion steps out.
"How can I help?"
"We just uh... we wanted to talk to you for a minute about the AWC segment last night." Jocelyn took over.
"Sure. I thought it was important what they did. Im glad they started the dialogue."
"Listen, we are hoping that you could get us in touch with Jane. The reporter said you introduced them."
"I thought it was crucial her story be heard." They stopped walking, now standing in the middle of the hall. "But Jane already tried to disclose once, to the school, you heard how that turned out."
"Look, whatever happened between the victim-" Sonny chimes in before he gets cut off by Dillon.
"Survivor." She corrected him.
"Okay, the survivor and the university, thats got nothing to do with us."
"You have to understand, this woman is still extremely fragile, to subject her to harsh scrutiny, the legal system."
"All due respect, obviously we'd like to go through you, but if you're just gonna get in the way, we'll go over or around you." Dillion scuffs at his threat.
"Interesting phallocentric choice of language, detective." Jocelyn immediately grabs onto Sonny's arm.
"My partner is still working on making a nice, appropriate conversations, one of his weaknesses." Sonny frowns at Jocelyn. "Listen, we all know that something terrible happened to Jane. We really want to help her, we don't want these guys to get away with it."
"I hear you, i do. I don't think that Jane wants to deal with any of this." Dillon turns to walk away from the two detectives. "But ill give her a call."

Back at the station, again things between Carisi and Peña were getting worse. The thick tension in the car was worse than before. They ignored each other and went straight to their desk. Jocelyn looked at Sonny but he didn't look back. What happened now.
Jocelyn was on the phone with Dillon, she was spinning in her chair and twirling the cord. After the hang up, Jocelyn hangs up and sighs.
"Jane doesn't want to talk to us. She wants to come when and where she wants."
"What does that mean?"
"Many things maybe? She could be scared to make an official complaint. I don't blame her."
"So that leaves us where?" Sonny follows Jocelyn to get more coffee in the breakroom.
"Back at square one."
"Dillons no help. Hey, speaking of which." Sonny stands in front of her. "What was that crap about me still working on having appropriate conversations?" Jocelyn drops her head.
"Sonny, come on. Dillons a rape advocate. Shes has a sorta hatred about males, especially ones who come out strong. I thought maybe slip in a lie to earn her trust."
"You don't know a thing about my work, you're still a new person here so don't think youre better than me." He says to her. Jocelyn frowns a bit, hurt a bit from the way her said it to her in a snappy way.
"Again, sorry. Im not to happy about your comment about me to Skip, painting me to be the cop with the anger issues." She sets her cup down. "Trust me, when im mad, youll know." Sonny shakes his head. "And believe me, you don't want to make me mad." They stood there in silence to calm down the tension.
"Rape advocate." Sonny hums. "I dont even get what that is. I mean theres no burglary advocate, theres no homicide advocates."
"Whens the last time a murder victim got asked, are you sure you didn't want to get killed?" She raised an eyebrow, giving a look to Sonny which kinda scared him a bit.
"Okay, i get that." He takes back.
"Right." Jocelyn grabs her cup and heads to her desk, Sonny follows behind. Whenever the two are with each other, they notice that Carisi is always following Peña, like a lost puppy or something.
"But still, shes just getting in our way."
"I don't know what to tell you, Sonny. If she doesn't want to come out with this, we can't force her." She slaps her hands to her side. Sonny yanks his coat from his chair, making Jocelyn look up at him. "Where are you going?"
"Back to campus. I dont want to tell the sarge we came up empty handed." She grabs her coat but Sonny stops her. "Im gonna go alone. I need space." Jocelyn stood there as the elevator doors closed, leaving her stunned and coat in hand.
"Wow." She widen her eyes and turns back to her desk.

With so many twists and turns, stories changed, stories added, it was getting messy. Jocelyn knew this wasn't going to look good for Heather. After hearing that all four frat boys got away with it. Jocelyn sat in her desk, everyone gone. She kept thinking to herself, SVU was harder than Homicide. What if...
"Thats the way of SVU." Finn calls her back to reality. She snaps her head at him. "We cant win them all."
"Just feel bad you know. Everything those guys did, i mean, how-"
"Thats the job Peña, if you cant take that, SVU isn't right for you." Jocelyn sits back, thinking.
"Im not leaving yet. Don't push me out now." Jocelyn gives him a little smile.
"Come on, time to go home. Maybe reschedule that date of yours." Jocelyn got her coat and walked with Fin to the door. She drove home, sitting back with Mulder, relaxing. She sipped on her wine and listening to music from her turntable. Until there was a knock on the door. Mulder ran and started to bark at the door.
"Mulder, ya!" She tells him to stop. She looks at the peephole and sees Sonny. She immediately fixes her hair and opens the door. "Sonny." She was generally surprised to see him. "Why are you here?" She lets him in and he stands in the kitchen.
"Im sorry about what i said to you the other day." He lets go. "You are not bad. I don't know why i said that. And then leaving you behind, saying i needed space." Sonny looks at the woman with her arms crossed. Just looking at her calmed him down. Her peace, her eyes, she isn't like the others. "Im here to say...im sorry Jocelyn." She takes a breath, thinking of accepting or not.
"I can push people's buttons, i know. I guess what you said about me, i was bothered so I decided to do the same when talking to Dillion." She sighs, head down. "Us being partners, we have to respect and watch each other. We have to deal with each other's insecurities and weaknesses." She wanted to say it. Talk about the almost kiss. "Why were you bothered? Was it because of me?"
"I uh..." Sonny stutters. "I heard that Grayson was taking you out." Her date. "I guess-"
"There's nothing between Grayson and I, yes it was date but i realized that he isn't the one who i want to be with." She lets go. "Im not getting any younger and-"
"I don't want to stop you from dating-"
"No! I mean, its not because of you." Yes, yes it is. "Dom, can we just forget about this and go back to how it was?" Sonny smiles, nodding.
"Sure." She smiles back.
"Great." She claps her hands. "You are more than welcome to stay, im having wine and listening to music if you want to join." He takes off his coat and she pours him a glass, listening to the music and talking about some funny thing that Sonny thought was hilarious.
