VINCENT REED IS AN ENIGMA FOR MOST. If you ask anyone to describe him, they'd tell you that he's quiet. One of the first things people notice about Vincent is that he loathes social interaction, which would make some question as to why he chose to go in the medical field in the first place. Despite coming off as an off-putting individual, he has a deep care and obligation to help others – he feels like he's finally someone when he gives...well, justice to families of victims of serial killers. If you ask any of the people he's helped, they would most likely describe Vincent as a ray of light (he's really not). It's either you're intrigued by Vincent or you hate his guts (see what i did there). There's no in betweens, ever.

Despite being popular in his workfield, Vincent is a very humble person – and never really brags, because there's no reason to. In his mind, his work isn't about being...popular, it's about giving people a sense of hope and answers. Though he's very quiet most of the time, Vincent is opinionated when he needs to be. He hates screwing up, or not getting the job done as quickly as possible.

There's no person more socially awkward than Vincent. Whenever speaking to someone, he'll have little eye-contact (because according to him, eyes are distracting), and he doesn't know what to say, or when to say it. Seriously, some can describe him as insensitive because of the stuff he says. Vincent doesn't think before he says something, and he has little to no regrets about the stuff he does say. Does he know his words hurt people sometimes? Yes. But will he apologize? No. Because that requires eye-contact, and he hates eyes. The rare moments where Vincent might apologize, is if he said something weird in front of like...a crowded room, or something. Then he'll muster out a 'sorry'.

Vincent has a dangerous amount of empathy that allows him to catch killers and bring them to justice. Now, that's...good, right? Who wouldn't want to catch a killer, and be praised for it. The problem with Vincent and his empathy is, he can and reenact the crime through the eyes of the killer. It has its pros, and then it has its cons. Usually, Vincent is shook – emphasizing with a killer he hates it – loathes it even. For a long time, when he first discovered his gift, he wondered what to do with it – before eventually going into the field of criminology.

He's very fidgety, and he's always doing something when it comes to sitting still – mostly, it's just a bad habit of his. Really, Vincent can't stay still even if his life depended on it. Some of this comes from the workfield he's in, where he's used to always getting up and doing something.

When it comes to being able to empathize with people and their emotions, one thing Vincent is great at is identifying when something is wrong. With other people, it's easier. But when it comes to himself? It's difficult on an extreme level.

Vincent thinks differently than most people his age. His mind is sort of...filled with thoughts. He knows he's different than most, and some part of him hates that. Despite this, he's very intelligent and intellectually innovative – Vincent is able to notice things most people aren't able to, and his theories and opinions on a crime scene never fail to fascinate others around him.

BACKSTORY ⭑

VINCENT REED was always the odd one out, from a young age his perspective on things were more...insightful. He never had many friends, and he willingly didn't have any friends. He would much rather spend most of his time reading, or in the back of the classroom– waiting for the day to end. Because of this, Vincent was always bullied– picked on, teased. It hurt, sure– but Vincent never sat down and cried about it. He couldn't sit down and cry about it. There were things to be done daily after school. Because if his parents weren't doing it, then who would do it? Vincent has always relied on himself for most of his childhood, anyway.

High school was no different– Vincent had become immune to the insults. Though nobody really paid attention to him, the one person he tolerated had to be his Global Studies teacher, Mr.Brody– a kind hearted man who pitied Vincent and his situation. The two had built a close bond, and many school days Vincent spent his lunches in Mr.Brody's office– sometimes, in complete silence.

"You're a good kid, Vin," Mr.Brody told Vincent one day– breaking their comfortable silence. "If you don't remember anything I tell you, remember that."

Mr.Brody was found dead in his home the next day.

Vincent couldn't breathe, he simply couldn't. Finding out the news at school almost broke him. And his world was flipped upside down. If you don't remember anything I tell you, remember that. And he did, he carried those words with him like they were engraved into his soul.

That's when the nightmares began.

Seemingly every night Vincent would wake up in pools of sweat–heart pounding. He could never remember these nightmares, and everytime he tried to, his mind would suddenly grow fuzzy. But one particular night, when he unwillingly fell asleep – he dreamt of...Mr.Brody? It had been weeks after his death. But that wasn't all– Vincent dreamed that he was there at the time of Mr.Brody's death– and not only was he there, but he was the killer.

It was just a dream, Vincent reminded himself–wiping the sweat from his face the next morning. But deep down he knew it wasn't just a dream. Police had confirmed that Mr.Brody's death was purely an accident. So why did Vincent have a nightmare about killing Mr.Brody?

Purely coincidental. Until, of course, the night replayed every single night. Was it normal? No, of course it wasn't. Vincent considered telling someone, his parents maybe? That option was scratched off his list quickly. The police? Oh, yes, just casually walk into a police station and say you had a dream of killing your teacher–totally not cause for concern. And so Vincent told no one– he kept it to himself, up until his high school graduation.

He got the chance to leave that cursed town.

And Vincent took that opportunity. His parents wouldn't care, and it's not like anyone else would go looking for him if he mysteriously disappeared. And so that's what he did, and it wasn't until he settled in New Orleans, that's where he truly found his place in society. He attended graduate school for four years in forensic science. After earning his degree, Vincent was offered to work at the FBI's crime lab.

It wasn't long after Vincent's exceptional work came to light. In the time-span of two years, Vincent is given a post as a teacher at the FBI Academy.

FAMILY ; DYNAMICS ★

ARTHA REED ( biological mother ), Vincent wants to hate his mother for not being there for him when he needed her the most. But, a part of him yearns for her, yearns for her presence. He doesn't love her, but he loves the thought of her being in his life. There's a part of Vincent that knows that he could've been way worse if Martha was in his life– but that doesn't stop him from wanting to reach out, to call her after so long. But he stops himself, he's probably better off without her.

ADAM REED ( biological father ), Vincent was never close to his father. When he was younger, they would go for days without talking. Living with Adam was like walking on eggshells, Vincent never knew when Adam was going to snap– when he wasn't drunk out of his mind, he was a living nightmare to live with. Remember Vincent hating eye contact? Well, he does. Only because of the simple fact Vincent was always yelled at by Adam, and he had no choice but to look that man in the eyes. Though Vincent can't help but...thank his father in a sense. Without his emotional abuse, he probably wouldn't be here (Vincent is a little sick in the head).

MATTHEW BRODY ( uncle/father figure figure ), Mr.Brody is probably the closest Vincent has been to a person since...well, forever. Vincent (platonically) loved Mr.Brody, and even if he didn't say it– the feeling was still there and mutual. Vincent still looks up to the man, even in death. And whenever he has time, he sometimes drives back to his hometown and leaves his favorite flowers (which were roses) at his gravestone.

His ability to emphasize with killers and reenact the killings allows for many of the towns' infamous killers to be tracked down and be put to justice. Without this gift, he probably wouldn't be considered 'the best' in his field.

♰ Intelligence; along with his gift, Vincent's intelligence allows him to make opinions and viewpoints most wouldn't be able to.

♰ Observant; with his ability to be able to point out the little things, helps out a lot when working on new cases. He's very keen on detail, and makes sure to make little notes in his mind about certain things that catch his interest.

♰ Socially Awkward; he often keeps his distance from people, and anything that has to do with socializing. And considering he's in a field where he has to work with people basically everyday, it's extremely hard for Vincent to thrive in the ways he should be.

♰ Insensitive; as stated before, Vincent has quite the habit of saying things without thinking them through. Nor does he have regrets about the things he says. He's aware that his words can hurt people, but he doesn't feel sorry about the things he says.

♰ Sleep Deprivation; if you ask Vincent how much sleep he gets a day – he'll most likely shrug you off and completely avoid the question. Truth is, he doesn't get that much sleep – due to nightmares. Most days when he comes into work, he has a hard time concentrating (explaining his fidgety nerves).
