CHAPTER 47
Dhisana slowly opened her eyes and found herself alone in her room. A confused frown appeared on her face as she sat up, was she dreaming about welcoming Manvendra ? She wasn't sure. Even thinking about it made her head hurt.
A frustrated sigh escaped her lips, as she buried her head in her knees. She felt like crying now. She felt as if she shall go crazy while waiting for him. Her headache just added to her grievances.
But suddenly she felt a hand over her head, it didn't belong to Bela, the size was big, and it provided a sense of assurance. Dhisana raised her head and her lips parted slightly seeing Manvendra.
So he was actually here ? Or is her mind playing tricks on her again ? Whatever it was, she just stared at him until tears blurred her vision. She wanted to throw herself in his arms, but her disappointment was overpowering. She diverted her gaze.
Manvendra sat in front of her to meet her eyes again, but Dhisana again turned her gaze to the side. But even though her brows were wrinkled, her eyes, which were full of yearning, strayed and gazed at him.
Even though her lips were sealed, supressing her speech, her eyes conveyed their pain to him.
"Dhisaney ?" Manvendra asked. She couldn't ignore his voice. The voice which she yearned to hear since past year.
"Yes ?" She asked in almost a whisper like voice.
"Cast aside your resentment." Manvendra said.
"What have I done in my resentment ?" Dhisana asked.
"It has made me troubled. I ask for your forgiveness." He said.
"You have done me no wrong, the fault is mine." She told, as tears threatened to escape her eyes.
"Please don't grieve like so." Manvendra said softly.
"Before whom am I grieving ?" Dhisana asked, Manvendra frowned at her question.
"Before me." He said unsurely.
"What am I to you ?" She asked.
"My Wife." He said.
"I am not. That is why I am grieving." Dhisana said as she broke down in tears.
"Why do you think like that ? It's not so." Manvendra said, gently holding her shoulders.
"Raudra, I know you are an Arya prince and I am a Mlecch princess, I know our marriage is rather unconventional. But I am trying to be a good wife. I am trying to be a true Aryaa, I really am." Dhisana said in sobs.
"I never asked you to do that." Manvendra said.
"You didn't have to because that's what husbands and wives do ! They strive to the best for one another ! I don't want to be better for anyone else but for you !" She said as tears endlessly rolled down her eyes.
A sigh left the lips of Manvendra, he said nothing. He knew he shouldn't argue further. Hence he just pulled her in an embrace. Dhisana froze for a moment, as she felt strong arms wrap around her in an embrace.
At first, she stiffened in surprise, unsure of what was happening. But then she felt his warmth, his steady heartbeat against her own, and she broke down entirely. This was what she wanted, the warmth of his embrace, this is what she was yearning for since so long.
Manvendra gently tightened his arms around her, she buried her face in his chest and sobbed even more, her tears staining the fabric of his clothes. For the first time in her life, she felt safe and protected in his arms. The pain and burden that she had been carrying seemed to be melted away into the tenderness of his hold.
As he held his wife in his arms, Manvendra felt a sudden surge of warmth and tenderness sweep over him. He stroked her hair gently, his heart was heavy with sorrow as he watched his wife sobbing like so.
As the tears rolled down her cheeks, Manvendra felt a sharp pang of guilt in his heart as he realised how lonely she was feeling and how neglectful he had been towards her.
"It was never my intention to hurt you, I know I have let you down, but please believe me when I say everything will be alright." Manvendra whispered.
Hearing his words a sense of relief did wash over Dhisana, but she still felt skeptical of him. She wanted to believe him but what if he leaves her again ? She looked up at him, her eyes told Manvendra her doubts.
'The one who trusted me enough to believe anything I said, is not believing in my promise now ?' He grieved at this.
Manvendra knew that he had to prove it to her. And he was ready to.
