Chapter 23 ~ Nights in 1944
Episode: Season 7 - Time After Time Pt. 3
It didn't take long for Eliot Ness, a second policeman, to arrive, ushering the other man out. And when he did, he picked up instantly on our oddities - slang, clothing, and of course, our relationship of differing races. But to his credit, he said nothing to any of those things, instead choosing to help us. Most likely because were fellow hunters like himself. Quickly, he brought us to a shop to find some new "duds" as he called them so we'd fit in better. I even got a cute new hairstyle just for the occasion, not unlike Ginger Rogers if I do say so myself.
And then, we were back on the case. Apparently, a god named Chronos had put us here, transporting us back in time. I had started to ask where Luke or Percy was but Dean silenced me with a look and I bit my tongue. This time. We located him fairly easily, holed up in a house in town. We needed to kill him, stop all the other killings but if we did...we'd be stuck in 1944 forever.
We'd never go home to our own time again, our friends, our life...Sammy. One of Dean's hands left the steering wheel of the '42 black Cadillac he was driving to rest on my knee, squeezing it gently. His green eyes never left the road but I knew he knew what I was thinking.
"Park, we're gonna make it out of here, alright? I promise. I won't let you get stuck here because of me," he said adamantly.
Moving my own hand to rest over his, I intertwined our fingers lovingly.
"Dean...I'm not 'stuck' here because of you. I chose to be with you. I always will," I confessed, my voice only slightly above a whisper as he slowly pulled the car over to the curb, right in front of the house him, Sam, and I were squatting in in our time.
After turning off the engine, his gaze met mine and I saw love shining in his eyes. With his hand cupping my cheek, fingers softly caressing the skin there, I pressed my lips to his palm in a chaste kiss.
"I love you..." he admitted, his voice like velvet.
His hand fell from my face then and he climbed out of the car with me following hot on his heels.
"I know," I smirked back at him, my long dress swishing across my legs as we fell in sync beside one another.
He rolled his eyes, "Always with the Star Wars references."
Quickly - after being invited inside by the current owner - we left a letter in the house for Sam so that he'd find it in our own time before making a small stop at a convenience store nearby. I sighed as we headed back to the car, feeling the weight of the world on my shoulders in that moment. What if we never got back home? Dean seemed to notice how my mood has soured and grabbed my hand as we walked, leading me back to the car. Once we arrived, he pressed my back into the cool metal, hands traveling down to rest on my hips. His fingers pressed into the material there and I smirked, rolling my eyes at his attempt to cheer me up.
"Really, Dean? You think you're gonna kiss me and everything will be fine again?" I asked sarcastically, a teasing tone to my voice.
He returned my smirk with one of his own, not answering my question as he pressed his lips to mine. A bolt of electricity ran up my spine at the simple touch, feeling as if the world had revolved on its axis. We'd been dating for the past four years now but no matter what, he still had that effect on me. Even after all this time. I kissed him back hard, hands reaching up to play with the short hair at the nape of his neck. He made a sound in the back of his throat and I almost laughed into the kiss just before he pulled away.
My eyebrows furrowed in confusion at his abruptness but he only smiled at me before walking over to the back door of the car, yanking it open. He glanced inside once before meeting my gaze again. As it dawned on me, a smile found its way onto my face and I stepped over to him, stopping only once to place a quick peck on his lips before climbing into the backseat. Dean followed right behind, pulling the door closed with his foot as he hovered over me, placing kisses along my neck, down to my collarbone before repeating the pattern. And with that, my eyes fluttered shut, feeling a rush of happiness to just be here with Dean.
We went back to Chronos' girlfriend's house a little while later but unfortunately, arrived at the wrong time. Right as we stepped inside, Chronos attacked Dean. But just once he'd broken loose from the hold he'd had on him, our fellow hunter, Eliot showed up, holding the girlfriend, Lila, hostage.
"Please don't hurt her," Chronos begged the man.
"Ethan, what's happening?" Lila said, shaking like a leaf in Eliot's arms.
"Lila, I'm sorry. It's just- Everything I said to you is true," he said, pleading for her to believe him.
"Well, he might've left off a few details," Dean piped up from beside me as I helped him up off the floor, "He tell you he's a monster jumps through time?"
"I'M A GOD!" Chronos roared at my boyfriend before turning back to Lila, " Look, I'm not a monster. Listen. I'm the opposite,"
"Well, don't forget to tell her about all the people you murdered along the way, boy scout," Eliot sneered.
"What?" Lila breathed out in fear.
"It's not like that. I do it for you, Lila," Chronos shook his head indignantly.
"I don't understand,"
"Well, he's not as strong as he used to be. Ain't that right, Ethan? You know, you gotta go out and suck people dry," Dean shot back at Chronos, "Wild guess: it takes three kills to juice you up,"
"Sacrifices. Three sacrifices and I can control when and where I land. But once I get there, it's never for long before I'm tossed through time again. That's my life, Lila. And all I want is to get back here,"
"Because you just love the clean Canton air," Eliot spat.
"Because I love her! Because I lived the worst existence you can imagine and then I found you,"
"After you killed Tyler Crosby and Cathy Porter, Lila here was gonna be victim number three. Am I right? Don't act like you never killed a soul before you met her, pal. Something tells me you used to kill three saps just for a change of scenery,"
"Yes, I did. I used to wander. But now I have you," Chronos said softly, his voice breaking with the words.
"I knew Cathy. She used to come into the diner every day," Lila cried, tears streaming down her porcelain skin.
"Lila, please-"
"You are a monster!"
"No, Lila, please-" Chronos began to say just before Dean charged him with a stake.
But Chronos was too powerful, knocking him to the floor before catching him in a stranglehold. A scream escaped my throat, raw and full of emotion. I tried to run to him but Dean just shook his head. Eliot shoved Lila away from him then, firing his gun at Chronos. The bullets lodged in his back, blood seeping through the dark vest. But it didn't slow him down at all.
Suddenly, to everyone's surprise, a bright red glow began to fill Chronos and with that, he held onto Dean even tighter. Gasping and spluttering, his eyes met mine. I raced over then as Chronos began to shout in protest, frantic as he began to teleport. Suddenly, the clock stopped in the room, creating an eerie silence. My heart pounded in my chest as I put on a burst of speed, my hand shooting out to grab Dean's just in time. The burst of red light filled up the entire room then, enveloping us completely before I felt my feet give way beneath me and my back impacted with the hard tile floor of a house.
My dark brown eyes burst open and I coughed hard from my place on the floor, feeling woozy.
"Parker!" a voice called out and suddenly, I noticed Jody kneeling over me.
There was a scuffle to my right and suddenly, I saw Chronos lunge for Dean. Quickly, I crawled over to him, grabbing his hand. But just as swiftly, Sam come up behind him and twisted him around before plunging the stake into his gut. Chronos gasped for breath, shuddering as he glanced down at the stake embedded inside him. But it was much too late for him.
He grinned though, despite it all, despite the blood dribbling down from his nose and coating his lips crimson.
"You wanna know your future? I know your future," he smirked maliciously over at Sam, although addressing the three of us, "It's covered in thick, black ooze. It's everywhere. They're everywhere... Enjoy oblivion."
With those final words, he keeled over then, falling limply to the floor. Chronos was dead. I sighed in relief as I sagged against Dean for support, meeting Sam's gaze as he watched us. Relief registered in those hazel brown eyes, sending a smile my way.
"Welcome back, you two. Nice Ginger Rogers hair, Parks."
