THE PEVENSIE CHILDREN
βοΉ₯βββββββββββββββοΉ€β
It had been two weeks since Lucy Pevensie had left Narnia and since then, no one had set eyes on their 'princess' since that day - not even the trees heard whispers of her name. That night, the Witch had stormed into her room and punished the girl until the whole of Narnia heard her screams.
But today was different, Alex could feel it in her bones that something was happening in Narnia. There was going to be change.
A knock echoed around the Beaver's small, wooden cabin before abruptly halting as if waiting for someone to open the door. When Mrs Beaver complied, she was surprised to see the young monarch standing solemnly with despair written over her face in bold.
"By Aslan! Alex, you will freeze to death!" the Narnian screamed and pulled the girl in with her paws and shutting the door behind her carefully, "We haven't seen you in weeks and you show up with no coat! Are you mad?"
"Mrs Beaver, you know that I don't feel the cold," Alexa almost laughed, something she hadn't done in what felt like years because it was. Ever since she had arrived in Narnia, Alexandra had changed. She had always known that it wasn't the land that had the effect, it was the piece of ice in her heart that was bestowed upon her by the White Witch herself, "I'm fine, really."
"Are you hungry?" Lexi shook her head and let the white curls fall past her face, her grey eyes searching around the hut for the other Narnian but couldn't see him anywhere.
The beaver placed a cup of warm tea in front of the girl who sat on a stool beside the table, "Mr Beaver went out this morning, most likely with the badgers again."
Alex nodded her head and sipped the tea, feeling it travel down her throat and almost soothing her whole body. The only time that she was close to feeling warmth, was outside the castle walls or when she was as far away from the Witch as possible; even then the snow and ice would chill the air but it would never make the girl cold. Despite her inability to get cold or warm, Lexi craved to feel the heat rise from the flames from the fire but when she scooted over, she still couldn't feel the effects on her body.
Both females heard footprints outside, they assumed that it was just Beaver returning home, "You stay here, love. I'll see what Mr Beaver has been up to."
Alexandra nodded and finished her tea, her hands now rising to the flames in hopes that the flames would finally radiate some of the heat to her body but it didn't. The girl waited for the beavers to return but it felt like a while.
"Mr Beaver?" she asked and stood to her feet, still having to lower her head to avoid hitting it on the wooden ceiling and bringing the whole cabin down.
There was silence until the door opened once more and in stepped Mrs Beaver, followed by not one, not two, not even three, but four children. Four very human children. Alexandra noticed the innocent face of Lucy Pevensie first, and then the more mature face of an older girl who's brown hair curled around her rosy, apple cheeks. Behind the two girls she saw a boy with hair as gold as what she had expected Aslan's mane to be. The boy looked to be the same age as Alex, but the darker haired male behind him looked to be a few years older than Lucy and the second youngest of the siblings. Lexi could tell that they were siblings because of the similar nose shapes and the way that they walked as if they were protecting each other.
"Princess Alexandra!" Lucy gasped out and threw her body onto the girl's legs in an embrace with her head resting on the silk of the Dawson girls dress, which she had cut into a loose-fitting shirt but the golden bodice was still evident. Dark material covered her legs in trousers, something that Susan found to be rather peculiar.
"Lucy?" Alex mouthed and placed a hand on the girl's back in shock, "I thought that I told you not to come back, Narnia isn't safe for you."
Lucy pulled back from Alexandra's small embrace and back into Peter who continued to look at the girl, he felt as if he knew her and he had no idea why. Within less than a minute of meeting the girl, Peter was surprised to see that she didn't dress or carry herself like the girls back in London did.Β
"I had to make sure that you and Mr Tumnus were okay," Lucy watched as Lexi sat at the table with a fresh cup of tea now in her hand thanks to Mrs Beaver, who then motioned for the other children to sit down, "Your cheek-" Lucy's hand carefully rubbed over the blue scar that etched over her jaw and nearly reached her nose in two separate lines, "-What happened?"
"Nothing that I can't handle," Alex replied and sipped her tea, finally meeting the brown eyes of the boy across the table, "You must be the rest if the Pevensie children, I assume?"
"Yes, your highness," Susan respectfully bowed her head.
Alex's lips knitted into a smile before she joyfully chuckled, "I am not a royal."
"But Lucy called you a princess," the other boy asked, pushing his dark hair from his eyes and taking a seat on the stairs of the dam.Β
Lexi tasted her tea as Mr Beaver opened his mouth, "Alexandra is not a royal, think of her more as a knight or a protector of the Narnians."
"But women can't be knights," the same boy asked, making Alex's eyes go wide and almost bulge out of their sockets.
Alex smiled respectfully, "I see that England has not changed in my absence."
"You are from England?" Peter asked the girl who brushed the question off.
"You have the same thoughts as a man from London," she placed the cup back onto the table and pushed a white curl from her face, "In Narnia, things are much different than England. Animals can talk, the trees whisper and there is no discrimination against anyone for anything, unless you are Jadis."
"Edmund," the oldest child warned with glaring eyes before turning to the two animals, "Isn't there anything we can do to help Tumnus?"
"They'll have taken him to the Witch's house, wouldn't they?" he asked Alexandra who nodded her head politely, it was Mr Tumnus' screams that she had heard at the walls that night, "You know what they say. There's few that go through the gates that come out again."
"Fish n' chips?" Mrs Beaver asked them all to break the tension in the room, her voice was happy yet she was still worried about the faun, "But there is hope, dear. Lots of hope."
Lexi watched as Mr Beaver spat out his tea into the cup, "Oh, yeah, there's a right bit more than hope!" the Narnian leaned over the table and lowered his voice into a whisper, "Aslan is on the move."
Alex felt something shift in the air at the mention of Aslan but she couldn't place her finger on what it was. There was something floating around each and every human in the cabin. Almost for a split second, just one, the Dawson child felt something igniting within her chest. But just as quickly as it appeared, it was gone.
"Who's Aslan?" Edmund asked behind them all, standing to his feet to finally be included in the conversation.
Mr Beaver broke out into a fit of laughs, "Who's Aslan? You cheeky little blighter," he earned a nudge from his wife, "What? You don't know, do you?"
"We haven't exactly been here very long," Peter remarked.
Alexandra cleared her throat and kept the tea in her hands patiently, "Aslan is the King of Narnia, if you would. Before the White Witch's reign, he was there for the whole land. He's been away for a very long time, no one knows where or why."
"But he's just got back!" Mr Beaver chimed in with joy, "And he's waiting for you at the stone table!"
"He's waiting for us?" Lucy asked.
"You're blooming joking!" he shouted with his paws raising in the air, "They don't even know about the prophecy! Look. Aslan's return, Tumnus' arrest, the secret police, it's all happening because of you!"
Susan felt taken back, "You're blaming us?"
"No!" Alex almost shouted but concealed her voice, "No one is exactly blaming you, we are merely thanking you. There has been more action in Narnia over the past two weeks than there has been in the 98 years of me being here."
"98 years? But you look-" Susan started after pushing her locks from her face to see the girl more clearly.
"The time is different here. I age as if I would be in my homeworld but technically I have lived in Narnia for 98 years, despite the fact that I am still only fifteen. I think, at least. I've lost track over the 'years'," she answered.
There was a glance shared between the married couple that didn't go unnoticed by a Alex. Mr Beaver wiped his nose with the back of his paw before talking, "There's a prophecy, 'When Adam's flesh and Adam's bone sits at Cair Paravel in throne, the evil time will be over and done'."
"You know, that doesn't exactly rhyme," Susan muttered under her breath but they all heard it.
"I know it don't," Beaver replied, "You're kinda missin' the point!"
His wife comforted him before taking over, her voice was much more relaxing and calming than he was, "It has long been foretold that two sons of Adam and two daughters of Eve will defeat the White Witch and restore peace to Narnia."
"And you think we're the ones?" Peter asked the animals with raised brows.
"You'd better be 'cause Aslan has already fitted out your army!" Beaver roared with a large grin that showed off his front teeth even more.
"Our army?" Lucy gasped out.
Alex turned to the two Narnian's who looked guilty for not telling her, she wanted to ask why but Mrs Beaver already answered for her in a quiet tone so that the Pevensie children didn't overhear, "We couldn't risk you knowing, not whilst you are still under her spell."
"Mum sent us away so that we couldn't get caught up in a way," Susan turned to her older brother who looked equally as confused.
Peter nodded at his sister, "I think you've made a mistake. We're not heroes."
"We're from Finchley!" Susan heaved out to add to what her brother was saying, "Thank you for your hospitality. But we really have to go."
Susan stood up which made Alex's eyes widen and spill the hot tea all over her hands but she didn't feel the high temperatures at all, "You can't just leave! What about Narnia, about Mr Tumnus?"
"Princess Alex is right. We have to help Mr Tumnus," Lucy begged with her short hair brushing her shoulders as she looked up to her siblings, still referring to the girl as a princess despite knowing the truth. In all honesty, Lucy loved the idea of talking to a real princess.Β
"It's out of our hands!" Peter told his youngest sibling and offered his hand to help her stand up, "I'm sorry but it's time that the four of us were getting home. Ed?"
Everyone in the cabin turned to the stairs to see that Edmund had disappeared from his place and the door was left wide open, leaving just the three siblings with the two Narnians and Alex.
"I'm gonna kill him," Peter shook his head weakly with a scowl on his lips.
Alexandra stood to her feet and rushed to the door to look outside, finding nothing but Edmund's footprints leading off in the snow, "You might not have too."
"Has Edmund ever been to Narnia before?" Mrs Beaver asked the remaining three Pevensie siblings.
Just by the look on their faces, Lexi was able to guess that Edmund had been to Narnia before, meaning that there was the chance that he had already met the White Witch. Alex glanced to the Narnians, just as Peter barged past and started running after his brother's footprints.
"By Aslan's roar!" Alexandra remarked before following after the boy, the others not far behind her, "Peter!"
She received nothing in return from the boy as he continued to sprint through the snow. Past the trees and up the hills that lead to the fragments of the ice castle, the walls that radiated off the brightest blue light that the Londoners had ever seen in their life.
All five of them stopped once the castle was in their sight, their eyes finding that Edmund approached the gates but that was as far as they could see.
"It's too late," Alex put a hand on Lucy's shoulder to stop the girl from running forward, "Jadis has him now."
