Chapter 3
Wraith moved swiftly, her dark silhouette blending seamlessly into the shadows as she leapt from roof to roof. The city below her buzzed with its usual chaos, but a sudden wail of a car alarm broke through the noise, drawing her attention. She paused on the edge of a building, her sharp eyes scanning the streets below.
"Looks like someone's having a productive evening," Venom's voice growled in her mind, laced with dark amusement.
She sighed, already firing a tendril of webbing to swing down toward the lamppost nearest the commotion. As she descended, her keen gaze caught a flash of red and blue streaking through the night sky. Spider-Man. Of course, he'd show up.
"Better hurry," Venom urged, its tone low and eager. "Can't let him steal all the glory, now can we?"
Wraith hummed in agreement, twisting gracefully in midair as she shot another webline. Landing lightly on the ground, she spotted the would-be robber fumbling with a car door, a bag of stolen goods spilling onto the pavement. Without hesitation, she fired another web, the sticky strand wrapping tightly around the man and pinning him against the vehicle. He barely had time to yelp before he was thoroughly bound.
"Rookie mistake," she muttered, tightening the webbing with a flick of her wrist. She turned just as the hum of approaching voices and the whirr of tech caught her attention. A quick glance over her shoulder revealed Spider-Man and his team landing nearby.
"Uh..." Nova hovered slightly above the ground, his helmet tilting as he surveyed the scene. "Looks like someone already caught the robber for us."
Spider-Man stepped forward, his head tilting as he examined the webbing on the thief. "Huh," he muttered, crouching down to inspect it more closely. "This isn't my work..."
Wraith smirked beneath her mask, pulling herself up into the shadows with practiced ease before the team could spot her. As she swung away, Venom's voice rumbled with satisfaction. "Neat and efficient. Not bad, L/N. Not bad at all."
"Just doing what needs to be done," she replied, her tone cool. But deep down, she couldn't help but enjoy the thought of Spider-Man and his team finding her handiwork. Let them wonder. For now, the city was hers.
SCENEBREAK
Later that day, Y/N sat cross-legged on the worn couch in her apartment, her school uniform still on, a book resting in her lap. The city buzzed faintly outside her window, a familiar white noise that she'd grown used to. She flipped a page, deeply engrossed, when a sharp knock on the glass startled her.
Her eyes snapped up, and she froze. Outside her window, clinging to the frame like it was the most natural thing in the world, was Spider-Man. His red-and-blue suit was unmistakable, even in the dim evening light.
Huh, she thought, narrowing her eyes. How the hell did he figure out where I live?
For a moment, she considered ignoring him, but curiosity—and a hint of annoyance—got the better of her. Closing her book, she stood and crossed the room, unlocking and sliding the window open. "Well, this is unexpected," she said dryly as Spider-Man crawled through the opening with his usual acrobatic ease.
The masked hero straightened, his hands on his hips as he looked around the room. "Now, I'd ask how you think I got your address," he said, his tone playful but with a serious edge beneath it. "But I'm guessing this cool gag of yours—'school'—probably gave it away, didn't it?"
Y/N rolled her eyes, stepping back and crossing her arms. "Right. Because clearly, I just hand out my personal information to random classmates like free candy." She raised an eyebrow, tilting her head. "You do realize this is borderline stalking, right?"
Spider-Man held up his hands in mock defense. "Hey, hey, don't shoot the messenger. I didn't snoop, promise. I just put two and two together—new kid in class, strange vibes, and, oh yeah, that familiar web-slinging style." He gestured vaguely at her. "You might be good at keeping a low profile, but I've got a knack for noticing the little things."
She stared at him, unamused. "You've got five seconds to explain why you're here before I throw you back out that window."
Spider-Man's tone softened, and he tilted his head. "Alright, alright. Look, I'm not here to pick a fight. I just wanted to talk. Something's going on in the city, and I've got a feeling you're in the middle of it."
Her jaw tightened, but she kept her expression neutral. Inside, Venom stirred, its presence suddenly sharp. Don't trust him, it growled. He's fishing for something. Send him away.
Relax, she thought back, her tone firm. I'll handle it.
She met Spider-Man's gaze—or where she assumed his eyes were behind the mask. "Fine. You've got two minutes. Start talking."
You let out a sharp laugh, the sound cutting through the tension like a blade. "Wow, Spider-Man, threatening people in their own home? Very, very mature of you," you said, your tone dripping with sarcasm.
Shaking your head, you crossed your arms, leaning casually against the wall. "But don't think for a second that I'm scared of you, Spidey. I've got my own demon, and trust me—it's a hell of a lot scarier than whatever's lurking in your closet."
As if on cue, Venom materialized over your shoulder, its liquid-black form twisting into shape. Razor-sharp fangs gleamed as it growled low in its throat, its wide, white eyes narrowing as it focused on Spider-Man. "Careful, Spider," Venom snarled, its voice layered with menace. "You're treading on dangerous ground."
Spider-Man flinched, taking a subtle step back as his lenses widened slightly. "The Venom symbiote," he said, his voice dropping. "You shouldn't have it—it's dangerous. That thing's nothing but trouble."
You smirked, brushing your fingers through your hair as Venom loomed protectively beside you. "Yeah, I've heard that lecture before. Dangerous, unstable, blah, blah, blah. Save it, Parker. I've got this under control."
Spider-Man's shoulders tensed, his stance shifting into something more defensive. "Control?" he echoed, incredulous. "That thing doesn't 'do' control. It feeds on anger, on chaos. If you think you can tame it, you're wrong."
Venom's voice rumbled in your mind, a mix of amusement and annoyance. "Tame me? Foolish spider. She and I are one."
"See, that's where you're wrong, Spidey," you said, stepping closer, the faint hum of Venom's energy radiating from you. "Venom and I have an understanding. Sure, it's a little unconventional, but it works." You leaned in slightly, your voice dropping to a taunting whisper. "And right now? I think you're just jealous you didn't figure out how to make it work first."
Spider-Man stared at you, the weight of the situation evident even through his mask. For a moment, the room was thick with unspoken tension, two forces staring each other down in a silent war of wills.
