10. If I Tell My Secret, You're Gonna Have To Keep It

⬆️Eris Baker as Zafira

Sorry for the slow update. I guess I was on a semi hiatus in a way. Like I was online for a short while and stuff but I wasn't really
updating anything as I didn't have the motivation and I didn't want to produce a half hearted chapter at the same time.

But I'm going to try and become more active again. Here's another update to make up for my absence.

Happy reading! Stay blessed xx

As Zafira was waiting on both Eucharia and Maitreyi to talk about whether she should have joined the group or not, the girls had gone to one corner to talk about everything that had just happened.

It had turned out that Maitreyi wasn't the only one who wanted revenge on them. Zafira did too, who had just appeared as they were about to leave.

It was the end of the school day at the moment, with Eucharia wanting to meet Maitreyi at the school's café.

She didn't want to go home by herself, especially since Saniyah and Candi Rose weren't exactly there at the moment. The school bus could have been a nightmare when someone was by themselves.

She had been trying to join them on getting revenge on Natalia and the rest of them.

Regardless of this, Euchy and Treyi were rather sceptical as to why someone from their enemy's group would have wanted to join them all of a sudden.

It didn't really make any sense.

But they didn't want to say no straight away. Out of everyone in Natalia's group, Zafira was probably the nicest and least harmful one.

Harmful in the sense that whilst Syeda, Natalia and/or Cynthia could have done anything to ruin the girls' reputation, Zafira wouldn't have done anything like that.

That didn't mean that they had trusted her though. For all they knew, Natalia could have sent her there and told her not to say that she did and that she had come there out of her own free will instead.

"So what do you think, girl?" Maitreyi had asked Eucharia when Zafira was slightly out of earshot, slowly folding her arms at the same time. "Do you think she deserves to be a part of our group?"

Despite the fact that Zafira was out of earshot, both of the girls could have seen her. Especially Eucharia as she was actually sort of facing the girl. Maitreyi wasn't.

From past experiences, Zafira was actually very nice to Euchy. Treyi didn't know her well enough as she had only just joined the school. Euchy, Saniyah and Candi Rose had been there for time.

Not just that; it had seemed as though Zafira didn't actually want to be part of Natalia's friendship group 90% of the time. However, if she had left her then she would have had no one.

Her parents had always told her to never be an island on her own. They had also told her not to hang around the wrong crowd or settle for less than what she had deserved.

So until Zafira had found a better group, she was going to be with Natalia for the time being.

She didn't want to be alone. She didn't want people asking her questions.

"I don't know Zafira well enough, you've known her longer than I have," Maitreyi had continued when Eucharia had done nothing but to analyse the girl. "What's she like?"

"To be fair, she doesn't seem like the kind of person that would use any of this against us," Eucharia had whispered. "She's a pretty chill person. Out of everyone in the group, I trust her the most."

"But is she worthy of joining the team? So yes then?"

Eucharia didn't mind her joining the team to be honest. If it was someone like Syeda, Cynthia or God forbid, Natalia, then it was a definite no.

Zafira was alright.

"As long as she promises that she won't tell Natalia that we're seeking revenge on her. Or more so, you are, because you won't take no for an answer. I'm completely against this but you seem pretty desperate so here we are I guess."

Maitreyi had nodded, going back to Zafira who was talking to her mum on her phone.

I'm so proud of you, baby! Your hard work finally paid off!

She had gotten her first A star in her Chemistry class. Zafira had loved Chemistry but she wasn't good at it. She had just jumped from a C to an A Star after worked her.

Zafira and Natalia's group of friends were complete opposites. How they had even become friends in the first place, nobody knew. Zafira was too good for them if anything.

Her parents had no idea that she had hung out with bullies like Natalia, but Zafira was surely leaving soon - else she wouldn't have asked the girls for some help.

And I couldn't have done it without you. Thank you so much for all your support. I love you.

I love you too.

"Zafira." Euchy had exclaimed, clearing her throat. "We've made a final decision."

She had gone from calling her mum to telling her that she would have called her back later when she was free.

"Hey. What's your final decision?"

She had prayed that it was good. Candidly speaking, Zafira had always wanted to join Eucharia's friendship group.

She didn't though as she knew how Eucharia and her friends had seen her. Whilst they didn't dislike her, they knew that she was with Natalia.

"You can join us."

"If you promise not to use any of this information against us, by telling Natalia and your friends," Eucharia had added quickly. "If you abide by that rule, then you're free to join."

When Zafira had said that she had wanted to join their revenge plan, she had now wished that she had asked if she had joined their group permanently.

Hopefully, if this had all gone well somehow, she would have naturally and maybe unconsciously been a part of their group anyway.

Nodding vigorously, Zafira had promised that she wouldn't have told Natalia's group about this. She wasn't even planning on going back anyway, plus they weren't her friends in the first place.

"Awesome. So how are we going to do this? Are we going to do this at the library or what?"

"Library? Are you kidding? Don't you think we'll get into so much trouble if someone finds out what we're doing?" Euchy reminded her. "We can go to my house tomorrow. I would say tonight but it's too short notice. Y'all should alert your parents."

After their short gathering, they had gone home respectively.

The next day at school wasn't so bad, Natalia shockingly hadn't gotten on Maitreyi's case at school - or on any of her friends either.

Reporting her to Principal Freeman had really worked wonders as now she had known to watch her back. This didn't mean that everyone was friends now, because that wasn't true.

They had still kept their distance from each other when necessary and possible.

Saniyah and Candi Rose were back at school again from their Aunty's baby shower the day before. Eucharia and Maitreyi didn't tell them about their revenge plan as they didn't need to know.

They had let Zafira hang out with them all day, which the school day kind of dragging. Home-time had finally come, with the girls making their way to Euchy's house by bus.

Her house was very nice, both on the inside and outside.

Though something didn't make sense.

"Alright, y'all, so here's the plan." Eucharia had announced to both Maitreyi and Zafira when they were right in front of her house at the end of school.

Because Maitreyi had lived nearby, and because her mum wasn't at home - but she was okay with Maitreyi being at Euchy's - she had therefore dropped her things at home.

"So you two are gonna take the back way when you go inside, and you'll go up the stairs very discreetly. In the meantime, I'll try and stall my parents in case you don't go up fast enough for some reason, or in case they're nearby and they have a chance of seeing you. Does that make any sense?"

No, it didn't.

Why did they need to sneak inside?

When Maitreyi and Zafira had heard the plan, they had looked at one another in confusion, wanting to know what was going on.

"Why do we need to sneak in?" Zafira deadpanned, becoming slightly annoyed. "Don't your parents know that we're coming here?"

Eucharia didn't say anything, with Maitreyi taking this as no - they didn't know that they were coming there at all.

"Euchy, you had 24 hours to tell them!" Maitreyi hissed, angrily.

"I'm sorry. The truth is, they've been arguing a lot lately so they don't want anyone out of our family to know what's going on behind the scenes."

The girls had groaned, wanting to know why Eucharia had even suggested going to her house if she had known all of this information.

"I kinda forgot, I'm sorry. I've been so stressed with school work that I forgot they told me not to invite anyone. Plus, it's not like they argue every single day. Just often."

That wasn't any better. They could have snuck off to Maitreyi's house though if Eucharia wasn't allowed her friends over.

"My mum isn't okay with me just randomly inviting my friends over without her consent first. Plus we don't want her asking questions," Maitreyi had pointed out. "Look, let's just stick to the plan. Still mad at you though."

Eucharia had apologised, with the three of them taking the back way once and for all. Euchy had unlocked the back way very quietly with her keys, and they had gone upstairs.

Because she didn't want any of he parents or her brother Cortez asking questions, she had gone to the main entrance of the house, which was where her mum Kerissa and her father Genesis were arguing about something.

It was shocking how they hadn't divorced yet. Maybe they were waiting to see how far they would have gone.

I'm just saying, you don't spend enough time with him! You need to stop prioritising Euchy over him. Cortez is your child too.

What about you? You prioritise Cortez over Eucharia. Don't be such a hypocrite!

Then this had gone for a long time.

Euchy's younger brother Cortez had come out from washing the dishes as today was his day to do so (they had taken turns), telling her to make it stop.

He was approximately 3 years younger than her, being her only sibling, for now maybe.

Anything could have happened in the future.

"What are they arguing about?"

"Favouritism. I came home with my report card today and I got all Bs and 1 C. Mum was so mad at my C, ignoring the fact that I got all Bs, but dad was happy with me. Then they started getting angry. Dad said if it was you, mum would have been happy with whatever you got. They've been going on about this for thirty minutes. It's driving me insane."

Eucharia had nodded, telling him that she would have done everything that she could.

She didn't promise anything though because promise was a strong word and she didn't know how her parents would have reacted.

So being the peacemaker that she normally was, she had tried to stop their arguing.

Easier said than done though.

Kind of, anyway.
