SIXTY-TWO
62 | AND SO,
THE PIRATE MET THE
FUTURE MOTHER-IN-LAW
CHILDREN truly are something magnificent.
It is amazing when you think about it. How two people can come together and create an entirely new person; a person that brings together and mixes completely different DNA codes to create something out of it.
In most cases at least, but this was not an Alabama situation.
But no, this is the case of Winterfell Frost, who was created from Jack Frost and Elsa of House Oldenburg.
Now, to be fair both Jack Frost and Elsa held similar hair and eye colors to each other (they are NOT related, okay, Elsa is tired of hearing that joke from her family), so it was to be a no-brainer that Winterfell would have inherited both traits. Right? Wrong.
Because no one had taken into account the facts when Winterfell was born.
"Are you positive that she is your kid, Jack? I mean no one in the family has brown eyes," Anna had told Jack while holding his daughter once upon a time.
"Anna!" Elsa had scolded her sister at her insinuation.
"I am just joking Elsa, sort of..."
The facts of the matter were that Jack Frost was born as Jackson Overland three-hundred-something years ago. And Jackson Overland was born with soft and glossy brunette strands and warm mocha eyes.
Just because he died and the Man in the Moon decided to resurrect him with white hair and cerulean eyes did not change his literal DNA coding. His genetics still adorned the codes for brown hair and brown eyes.
Also pale freckly skin, but Jack did not like to get into that part. It was not his fault he could not get a proper tan, okay! Even before he was undead or whatever.
Now, Elsa was born with pale blond locks (basically white) and blue eyes. She also had pale skin, but she never cared to tan anyway.
And so, the truth of the matter was that Winterfell adorned lighter hair than even Elsa by pure chance because it certainly had not come from Jack. The brown eyes came from Jack. No, the white hair came from Elsa — Winter's just so happened to be a tad lighter than her mother's.
Features were a different story because the truth of the matter was that Winter actually looked more like Jack than Elsa, it was just hard to tell sometimes because Winterfell had the same huge eyes and white hair that her mother adorned.
However, other than hair color and eye shape, everything of Winter's was Jack's. And one could see that when they saw her standing next to Jack Frost.
For Winterfell had Jack's nose, his natural skinny genes had (sadly) passed down to her, his full lips, high cheekbones, literal face shape... basically his kid looked like a female version of him.
It is because of this that Winterfell always found herself sighing when someone said...
"Winterfell, how you've grown so! You and your mother look like twins!"
No, actually — no they most definitely did not.
Winter braced herself as the Queens hurried over to her and her mother, beginning to quack about excitedly. It was to be expected, she supposed, after all, she had been the first female of the princes and princesses to hold a place in court.
Even Snow White had left Gil's side to join the others in closely examining Elsa and Winterfell.
Elsa looked just as uncomfortable as Winter if not even more.
"Ladies," Elsa greeted politely before quickly turning her attention to Ben, her smile slightly forced, "Ah — King Ben these are the saviors, are they not?"
"Actually no — Winterfell looks exactly like her father. Well ... I suppose much prettier and more feminine than he, but still!" It was Cinderella's voice who pitched, and Winter smiled at the blonde woman.
"Elsa — what we would give to see your husband at the moment! You should've brought him!" It was an inside joke, some inside joke about their ages and how handsome Jack was always destined to stay.
A chorus of laughs went around and Winter shook her head.
"You know, I'm here too!" Eugene called in a hurt tone as the Kings rolled their eyes at their wives.
"Oh, we know Eugene!"
Elsa rolled her eyes before stopping in front of the seven VKs, her eyes scanning over them all.
"Please ignore them, always so thirsty over my husband," Elsa rolled her eyes and the VKs let out a snort of both amusement and surprise at her words.
Ben chuckled, "well you need to admit, Queen Elsa, Jack Frost is quite the looker..."
"Trust me, I know — I only need to hear the man boast about himself 24/7," Elsa once again rolled her eyes.
The fact of the matter was that humility was not in Jack Frost's nature. The Winter Spirit was extremely good-looking, and he knew it. He was not quite at the level of promiscuity of Cupid, but he was certainly up there.
"And you must be, Mal?" Queen Elsa kindly questioned the daughter of Maleficient.
The girl with purple hair nodded, a natural smile sticking on her features rather than the forced tense one from before. There was something about Elsa that made Mal at ease. This woman seemed much less ... stuck up than the others.
"Yes, your majesty," Mal said, "it is a pleasure to meet you."
"Oh, no need for such formalities — Elsa will do just fine. And, I would like to speak on the behalf of Arendelle and the North when I say thank you for..." Elsa paused rolling her eyes, "and I am quoting Jack's exact words because he would not let me leave until I promised I would deliver his message," Elsa's voice dropped to a whisper so the others could not hear, "fixing Aurora and Philip's daughter's psycho ex-girlfriend phase..." she sighed and shook her head at the end.
Harry slowly closed his eyes and bit down on his lip to stop himself from bursting into loud obnoxious laughter. It took everything in him, the pirate forcing deep breaths as his face took on a slightly redder tint.
"Of course," he managed to get out in a tense voice before a small laugh escaped as well, "I'm so sorry, please excuse me," he barely muttered before falling over in laughter.
Jay joined him while the others simply let out smaller chuckles. Elsa was grinning as well, letting out her own laughter.
"Don't apologize, dear boy — my husband can be quite the character, even when he is not physically present," Elsa said.
Harry was only glad that the love of his life's mother was not offended that he had started laughing. And the pirate was actually trying to make a good impression as well. He could not have the woman who would (hopefully) be his future mother-in-law hating him.
Future mother-in-law?! What?! Who said that?!
Upon everyone settling down, Ben did hesitate in motioning to each individually.
"This is Evie, she is on my personal council with Winterfell,"
"Pleasure to meet you, your majesty," Evie curtsied with a very large and adorable smile on her face, "you and Winter look so much alike," she commented afterward.
Queen Elsa returned the smile, "we get that a lot, but honestly, she looks far more like Jack. Are the two of you friends?"
"Oh yes, we're really good friends," Evie nodded, "Winnie is such a sweetheart!"
Elsa was surprised by the nickname but said nothing of it, instead, she smiled happily.
"Oh, I'm glad! I know that my daughter can be a bit standoffish, she's like me in that aspect, but it does my heart happy to know she has good friends," the Queen expressed.
"And this is Carlos," the son of Cruella nodded, "Jay," the son of Jafar nodded his head toward the Queen, a near flirtatious smile adorning his features.
Harry Hook was undoubtedly the most flirtatious of the bunch, but Jay came in a close second. And seeing as Harry had absolutely no intention of flirting with Winter's (whom he had just engaged in a rather intense makeout with earlier that morning) mother.
Elsa simply rose an amused brow at Jay before turning to address the others who were being introduced. Her hands were rested and linked to the front of her long dress.
"This is Uma, she is on my personal council as well and we are trying to get her to act as the official spokesperson for the Isle," Ben explained.
"Oh good, the Isle definitely needs an official voice, and I am sure that you would do well as that voice," Elsa nodded toward Uma approvingly.
Uma smiled in response, thankful that this Queen truly did seem to be less judgy than some of the others. Even as Elsa described herself as standoffish, it was truly hard for Uma to envision.
"Thank you, your majesty," Uma said.
"And this is Harry—"
"'Ello, yer highness," Harry wasted no time in deeply bowing, dramatically flaring out an arm as he did so.
As he stood, he peeked up through his lashes at her, a near-mischievous smile painted across his lips. His dark hair which had grown slightly longer in the last few months ended just above his eyebrows.
Uma nudged Harry harshly, "it's your majesty, you only use your highness with princes and princesses..." she whispered to him as he stood back up.
Harry's eyes widened at his mistake, the pirate rubbing the back of his neck awkwardly.
"Whoops, sorry, yer majesty — o' pleasure tah meet yah," his accent came thicker, but despite his nerves and slight awkwardness, he still placed on that charming pirate's smile that had won so many people over in the past.
It had also screwed many people.
Elsa was actually speechless for a second, her eyes wide and she found her own cheeks flushing.
Well, her daughter certainly knew how to pick them — the pirate boy was quite the looker himself.
There was a saying: girls who were raised by kind, loving, and supportive fathers are more likely to be attracted to guys who are similar to their fathers.
Jack had always been a loving and fantastic father to Winterfell, the spirit would give her the world if he could. Elsa should not be surprised that even though Harry looked nothing like Jack he was still giving off similar vibes to the mischievous winter spirit.
It was that same twinkle that Harry had in his eye.
"The pleasure is mine," Elsa found her words, "and I take it that you are Mr. Hook?"
If Harry's grin could get any wider.
"Why yes — Harry Hook at yer service," he saluted the Queen, and Uma was shaking her head at her best friend from his side.
Elsa clapped in joy, "Oh fantastic, so you are the pirate that the wind tells me my daughter has taken an interest in!"
"Oi, ya heard 'bout me?" He questioned slightly surprised.
"Oh yes, Gale cannot keep a secret from me nor Jack, he likes to gossip far too much to anyone who will listen... something about a handsome pirate boy—" Elsa waved just as Winterfell suddenly burst into the conversation.
"Mother!" Winter breathed, thankfully cutting her off before anything embarrassing could be spouted.
She had broken from the other Queens on the premise that she would bring Gil back. The others were now curious and wanted to nosily poke around and check Gil out. Mostly just to question him about various different things, they were quite curious.
Especially seeing as he was Sonny's boyfriend.
Elsa calmly turned to Winter with a knowing twinkle in her eye. Winter stared back at her mother in a deadpan sort of manner.
"Winterfell you did not tell me about how attractive Harry is," Elsa shook her head and clicked her tongue as though disappointed in her daughter.
"Yah, Winterfell," Harry said her name in a sort of tone where she knew she'd be hearing more about that later, "yah never told yeh beautiful mother about me charms?"
"Oh," Elsa waved the charming pirate off, but her cheeks turned slightly rosier, "you are too sweet, Harry,"
Winterfell gaped at this.
"The other Queens were right, maybe you should have brought papa," Winterfell found herself saying automatically.
Elsa scoffed before turning back around to face the last member who had yet to be introduced.
"And I don't believe I got your name, young man?" She kindly questioned the last pirate who appeared to have been daydreaming.
"Oh!" Gil snapped out of it as Harry nudged him. "I'm Gil!" He happily said.
"Very nice to meet you, Gil," Elsa nodded in greeting before Winter cut in.
"Oh, uhm, Gil — if you are not too busy, the Queens requested your presence," she motioned to the women in crowns who were watching from the other side of the room.
Immediately as Gil's attention fell on them, the women giggled and called him over. Without hesitation, he trotted off toward them. Winter watched with a raised brow as they happily surrounded him asking him about a million questions per minute and examining him.
"Is that what they did to you?" Elsa questioned her daughter who turned to look at her once more.
Winter shrugged, "uhm, they were complimenting me... I think? At first, they said I looked like you then they were saying how they wished they did not age like you — then I was the spitting image of papa which somehow turned into me being grandmother 2.0?" Winter said more as a question than anything, which was the truth because it was hard to keep up with about nine different Queens picking and prodding at her.
Elsa shook her head at that; however, at the end of the day, all those ladies were still some of her oldest friends. Each with their own uniqueness.
"Well, anyway — Harry I heard that you and Winter are to be attending the ball together?"
The others had started to wander off to give the three privacy. Mal had taken Uma and Evie to engage in conversation with Rapunzel and Belle while Jay and Carlos were now speaking to King Eugene and Eric.
Ben was speaking more formally with his father and King Charming, most likely smoothing over any previous tension.
"Yes, yes we are!" Harry happily smiled, looking at Winterfell with a lovestruck gleam in his eye.
Winterfell folded her arms behind her back watching Harry with her own gleam, a small smile pulling at the edges of her lips against her will.
Elsa internally sighed, she truly wondered how her daughter would have turned out had Wenlock not been around to traumatize her as a child. It was perhaps one of the worst things that Elsa had to live with, knowing that her daughter would forever suffer from the baggage that came from Wenlock kidnapping her for two weeks.
She figured that Winterfell would be a lot more open had Wenlock never done that to her.
After Wenlock had been defeated the first time, both Elsa and Jack had done their best to fix the damage and pull her out of her shell. It took years to even scratch the surface, but eventually, Jack was able to bring the fun back in his daughter.
It truly did destroy him though, the tragedy of it all. He was the Guardian of the Fun in children, and it seemed he was able to make nearly every child but his own see the fun in life.
"Well, I look forward to the dance that you two will be performing," she smiled, "and as the entire family will be traveling I do hope that by that time Winterfell will be able to introduce you as an official boyfriend—"
"Mother!" Winter yelped in embarrassment.
Harry simply stood there grinning, he was eating this up.
Elsa only laughed, "I am just teasing, my darling, you two take as long as you need ... but not too long..."
Winterfell was only shaking her head and hiding her face in her hands. Her cheeks had turned beet red. Harry's shoulders were shaking from his laughter, but he rose a brow.
"I was under the impression that we were boyfriend—girlfriend though?" Harry said it as a question.
Winter's head snapped up so fast that she nearly got whiplash.
"What?" She questioned with furrowed brows. "But we never spoke about it?"
"I didn't know we needed tah?" Harry's own brows were furrowed. "I thought the kissin' and bein' each other's dates to the ball meant that we were?"
"We still need to talk about it though!" Winter said in an exasperated tone of voice.
"Well, it is a good thing that I brought up for you two," Elsa smiled, "but this does give me some flashbacks, the same thing happened with your father, and I..."
Winter's eyes went wide. Nope — the last thing she needed was for her mother to talk about was her relationship with her father in front of Harry. Because somehow it would always lead back to her parents and sex ... yep, no. Winterfell was perfectly content avoiding that.
"Anyway, I know I offered to take you and Harry out to dinner," Elsa smiled at Harry as she said this, "but I actually need to be getting home now, darling — I forgot that I told your aunt we'd all eat together so I could inform the rest of the family of the happenings at the meeting. I will let them know that you represented well," Elsa smiled at Winterfell before pulling her into a hug. "And your father needs to inform me of the happenings at the Guardian meeting..."
"Very well, please travel safe mother, I'll miss you. But we'll see each other in a few weeks for the ball and winter break," she said pulling away.
Elsa smiled at that, stroking her daughter's cheek. "You stay safe, my daughter — Harry, don't let anything happen to her," she turned to look at Harry.
Harry nodded, "nothing ain't gonna touch a perfect hair on yeh daughter's head, yer majesty!"
Elsa smiled at that, nodding her head. "Good, good — bring me that warlock's head with his intestines on a platter if you must, as long as he is dead and you are all safe."
Winter's eyes widened at her mother's violent words as did Harry's. He grinned once again bowing dramatically.
"Pirate's honor," he promised the woman, "I'll hook 'im if I even catch a glimpse of 'im!"
"Very good, young man!" Elsa cheered before placing a kiss on her shocked daughter's cheek. "Seriously, my darling — stay safe," she looked at her seriously.
"Of course, mother," Winterfell nodded back.
"Oh, and Harry," Elsa turned toward the pirate, "if you have no plans for the holiday break, please do know that you are welcome to travel with Winterfell to our home. You may need to stay in the Arendelle castle though, Ahtohallan can be quite..." she chose her words carefully, "tricky to get to."
And with her mother's invite, Winter just about passed out.
"Why thank yah! I dinnae have any plans for the holidays!" Harry said happily.
"Good, well you two talk it over — it was nice meeting you," Elsa nodded his way.
But Winterfell's mind was only on one thing.
The dream she had the other night. She and Harry — in the library of Arendelle in front of the fireplace ... very naked.
Oh God — she was turning into Soren!
