CHAPTER SIX๐
April tries to keep her heart rate under control. Strange looks had been directed at her ever since she was dragged into the classroom. She wishes she could simply disappear.
She is finally settled in at the middle row. She noticed how well-made the chairs were. It was not the typical wooden desks and chairs she was accustomed to. It consisted of three chairs and their respective desks. It was not splittable.
With Science sitted close to her, she could easily peer through the window. There was a boy who appeared to be a half-caste at the extreme. There are a reasonable number of students. It was Science class. Everyone wants to go to science class, even those who know nothing about it. April caught sight of Dumlesi, who was seated calmly between two boys in the second row. A distracting noise catches her attention as she smiles, imagining how dramatic Dunmlesi could be. This appeared to distract the entire class. It was building up in the back row. Two girls were exchanging words.
"Darlintina, please, I am talking to you nicely; get off my seat." A fair-skinned girl who appeared to be Fulani says with anger on her face
"Aisha, there are so many seats here," Darlintina, who appeared to be causing trouble, says as she crosses her.
"Darlintina, get up, na. Why are you so troublesome?" Adiza, clearly Aisha's friend, says with a frown.
"Adiza, this does not concern you," Precious says, siding with Darlintina.
"But this is clearly my seat; why are you girls always looking for trouble? Darlintina, I don't have strength for you and those possess creatures you call friends this term. "Just leave my seat," Aisha, who had clearly lost her cool, says. But she was not expecting the hard push, and she ended up on the floor. Looking up, her gaze meets Wendy's mischievous smirk.
"You seem stupid; if you are dealing with Darlintina, do not involve me. You are calling me a possessive creature? Wendy inquires with a smile that did not reach her eyes.
"Wendy, she did not mention your name na," Tari, the class's troublemaker, exclaims.
"Ah, Wendy, you pushed a Fulani girl down," Efe, Tari's close friend, says.
"Not only is she a Fulani girl, but her father is also a high-ranking Army officer," Gideon, another boy in the class, says with wicked laughter.
"Oh, shut up," Wendy, who was already tired of hearing their nonsense, says.
"Who is scared of her father?" "Do you know who my daddy is?" A short dark girl, clearly Wendy's friend, says with irritation.
"Hian, who is speaking?" Tari inquires earnestly.
"We can not even see who is speaking," Efe says with a sly smile.
"Short engine." Gideon says something that causes the entire class to laugh.
April, who had been watching the entire drama, could not help but smile.
"Gideon, or whatever you call yourself, it appears you are mad," Boma says, trying to contain her embarrassment.
"Gideon, you do not want to be in my black book this term. You, of all people, should be aware of what I am capable of." Wendy confronts Gideon, while the class becomes quiet. You could even hear a pin drop. Gideon knew Wendy's capabilities. He was aware that clashing with her this term was best avoided. He slowly picks up his bag and sits down. When he realized all eyes were on him, he quietly turns to Wendy. "Sorry, Abeg," he says.
Wendy gives a satisfied smile.
"Gideon, I am disappointed that you let this thing bully you," Efe says, clearly getting on Wendy's nerves.
"Efe, did you call me a thing?" Wendy asks, enraged.
"Wendy, we both know I am not afraid of you. You should not be having such a tantrum." Tari says, walking back to his seat.
"Tari, you are getting on my nerves," Wendy frowns.
"Wendy, are you actually conversing with this thing?"Boma asks in rage.
"Boma, do you still have a mouth to talk?" A girl says something on the first row, clearly catching everyone's attention.
"Basma Abduhalli, mind your business." Precious fires.
"Whatever!" Basma responds, returning to her previous activity. She did not realize Boma was after her until she was slapped across the face. This causes the entire class to become rowdy.
"Seems you have lost your manners," Boma says as she pushes her to the ground. Wendy and her cliques make it to their friend on time. As they begin to attack Basma, a teacher enters the classroom. When she notices the commotion, she shouts, realizing that her voice is not doing anything. She begins to separate. She pushes Wendy away, who was clearly choking Basma, before separating the other girls.
Everyone is staring at the teacher, who appears to be angry. She gives a hiss and turns to face Tari.
"So you mean you guys were in class and there was a fight going on? You could not do anything, " Mrs Gabriella inquires.
"Ma, look at the mark on my neck. It was the same Wendy who gave it to me last term while I was breaking up a fight. I can not do it again," Nimi responds in place of Tari. Meanwhile, everyone began to laugh.
"Ma, Boma hit my head on the wall when we were in Jss3. I will never forget that day; she was fighting with Flourish Alikor; how can we separate a fight involving wild animals?" Goodluck who hadn't said a word since the whole thing started says.
"You guys are women; shut up!" Mrs Gabriella responds.
"We agree," Tari says in a low tone that only those close to him can hear.
"Wendy Opurum, you have begun this term," Mrs Gabriella says with a strict tone.
"Ma, I knew you would point fingers at me first; was I the only one you noticed?" Wendy inquires in rage, clearly provoking Mrs Gabriella.
"Wendy, are you talking to me like this?"Mrs. Gabriella queries angrily. Meanwhile, Wendy simply stares at her.
"Seems you have lost your manner," Mrs Gabriella says, while Wendy remains silent.
"Basma, I did not expect this from you."
Mrs Gabriella says this while staring at the very fair girl who does not speak.
"Ma, Basma is not at fault," Tari exclaims.
"Tari, if I slap that stupid mouth of yours, you will not be able to speak again," Darlintina fires, causing Mrs Gabriella to turn toward her.
"Come slap me, idiot. Were you not the one who began this? Obanje, "Tari fires.
"Will you both keep quiet? Do I seem too little? I am clearly in the class, and you two are bickering," Mrs Gabriella fires, causing everyone to quiet down. She quietly looks around until her gaze lands on someone.
"You, tell me what happened," Mrs Gabriella says, clearly pointing April's way.
April lets her eyes bulge out, and her heart rate rises. She clearly did not want to get involved in this mess, judging by the way Wendy and her cliques behaved. Thinking about how she had run into her the night before and how she had been treated. She did not want to become involved in a problem. She came to school to study and graduate. She wanted no drama while she was still a student. Her heart begins to race.
"Am I not speaking to you? Mrs. Gabriela inquired.
April tries to say something, but is cut off.
"Fatima Demo, Am I not speaking to you?" Mrs Gabriella inquires, and April is unable to describe the joy she feels. She assumed Mrs Gabriella was referring to her. She quickly turns around to see a chubby girl who was clearly shivering.
"Fatima Demo?" Mrs. Gabriella inquired.
"Ma, I, ma," Fatimah stutters.
"Fatima Demo?" Mrs. Gabriella asks.
"Ma, Aisha Muhammadu began everything. Darlintina Okedi was quietly sitting in that chair," Fatimah says, pointing to the chair that brought the issue up.
"What happened next? Mrs Gabriella urges.
"She asked Darlintina to get up, and Darlintina tried to reason with her. She began heaping insults on her. She even pushed Wendy to the ground. She even pushed Wendy to the ground."
Wendy smiles deviously, while Tari opens his mouth to speak but quickly closes it.
"Ma, do you see that?" Wendy inquires in a small voice. She uses her hand to wipe away the tears that were forming in her eyes. "Everyone thinks I am always to blame," she says, sniffing. Meanwhile, everyone in the class seemed taken aback by her sudden outburst.
April could not hide her shock. Mrs. Gabriella looks at Wendy, feeling guilty, and tries to say something, but someone beats her to it.
"May I say something, Ma?" Flourish inquires in her usual calm voice. Clearly getting the death-glare treatment from Wendy.
"Go ahead, Alikor." Mrs Gabriella makes reference to her surname.
"Ma, Fatimah is clearly lying. She is clearly afraid that Wendy and Darlintina will attack her," Flourish says. "I was here and I witnessed everything," Flourish says, as Wendy glares at her while she explains to Mrs Gabriella, who is stunned that Wendy could pull such a stunt. She quietly turns to Fatimah, who is clearly shivering.
"I want all of you in my office, Fatimah, you are not excluded; you will be punished for lying," Mrs Gabriella says as she exits the classroom.
Darlintina, Fatimah, and the other girls involved in the fight leave around the same time as Mrs Gabriella. Wendy and Flourish exchange glares as they stand in the same spot.
"Wendy, you will always find your match," Efe says, making Tari laugh aloud. Meanwhile, Wendy hisses and walks to the door. She almost runs into someone; looking up, she notices Ibinabor and Fisayo, who do not appear to be pleased to see her.
"Are you both completely blind?" Wendy exclaims.
"You are clearly the blind one," Fisayo says.
"Fisayo, we are not childish. Ignore
her, "Calmly speaking, Ibinabor advances to her seat, Fisayo trailing behind. She was accustomed to receiving attention because everyone was staring at her. She clearly walks over to the location where Flourish was situated.
"I sense something, the environment is toxic," Fisayo complains.
Flourish grinned and said, "You both missed, you should have been here, I put that witch, Wendy in her place."
"I thought as much; she was in her usual foul mood," Ibinabor says, dropping her bag on the desk.
"I do not care." Fisayo adds.
"Ah, Flourish is now a white witch," someone says to the audience.
Even if Flourish had not seen the person speak. There was only one person she knew who could say that.
"Tari, mind your business," Flourish fires.
"I was just congratulating you, na; you did an excellent job in exposing Wendy. Even though we all know you did it for your own selfish reasons," Tari smirks.
"Tari, leave her alone." A calm voice is heard, grabbing everyone's attention and making Flourish smile.
"Flourish; stop blushing. It is obvious," Ibinabor reprimands her friend, who becomes serious.
"Ah, boss Nimi. Because of you, oh, " Tari says to the fair boy, who simply smiles.
"Idiot," said Flourish.
