"Would you look at that? The ticketer is cute." Sarah teased Robin as she walked over. She elbeked Vance. "Be nice."
He gave an eye roll. Robin grinned when Sarah got closer. "Hey, Sarah. How's it going?"
"It's going." she held her fist out, getting a pump. "You get a job?"
"Psh, no." he rolled hie eyes. "I'm covering for my uncle while he takes a smoke break."
"Gotta have those." Sarah shrugged, elbowing Vance again. "You remember, Vance? Hopper..."
"Sure, your boyfriend." Robin confirmed with a nod. "The entire middle school is talking about you guys."
"What'd you do?" Vance nodded to Robins wrapped knuckles.
"Moose was fucking with Gwen, knocked him on his ass." Robin grinned as he held his fist up.
"He was messing with Gwen?" Sarah gave a worried look.
"Put honey on them." Vance shrugged to Robin. "So they'll heal faster, dumbass."
"Honey?" Robin gave a questionable look. "That works?"
"Mhm." Vance rocked on his heels, Sarah hid a grin at their encounter. "If you tell anyone, i'll kick your ass."
"Lips are sealed." Robin nodded, hiding the same smile Gwen hid when Vance came to their house that one time. He shifted his gaze to Sarah. "Don't worry about Gwen. I've got her back."
"They doing okay?" Sarah asked hopefully.
"Dunno." Robin nodded inside of the gate. "Go see for yourself."
Sarah looked behind the gate and saw them together in the back of Robins uncles truck. She grinned widely, this being the first time she'd actually seen either of them since her big fight with Gwen. She handed the two tickets to Robin. "Thanks, Robin."
She linked her arm with Vances, pulling him with her as they walked in. "Do you like popcorn?"
"Only losers wouldn't like popcorn." he looked at her. "I'm surprised you do."
"Go get us one." Sarah slipped a ten into his vest pocket with a little push. "Mr.Yamada car is in the back. You remember what it looks like?"
"I'll find you there." he waved her off.
Sarah looked back toward Robins uncles truck, watching Gwen crawl out and run over to Amy. She preferred to get them alone anyways, two very different people. Finney would probably shrug it off and forgive her pretty quickly, Gwen would likely throw hands if she had the chance. Sarah waited until Gwen was completely out of view before walking over as Finney awkwardly sat alone and looked around anxiously.
"It's not a scary movie, you know?" Sarah's voice caught his attention, looking over as she walked up to the side. She had been pretty tall for a girl, taller then the majority of the girls in her grade and even some of the boys. Which, came in handy when she was able to lean over the side of the truck without jumping up. "You don't have to look so scared."
"I'm not scared." Finney defended himself with a shake of his head, eyes just a little wide. "What are you doing here?"
"Catching a movie with a friend." she said in return. "Looks like you're doing the same thing?"
Finney gave her a look. "I heard you're dating Vance Hopper. I thought you said he wasn't your boyfriend?"
"He isn't." Sarah said in return.
"That's not what everyone else is saying." he argued with her in the slightest.
"Do you believe everyone else more then you believe me?" Sarah tested him, Finney shook his head. "Well, i'm not. Is that what you're so mad as me? Because of Vance?"
"No." Finney sighed. She was slightly right, he was jealous of Vance big time. Sarah was an older girl, he knew she still viewed him as this little kid in her head that she could swoop up in her arms like a little baby, but he liked to believe that when he turned seventeen and she was nineteen, she'd give him a chance. He never added Vance Hopper to that plan. But, even then, he wasn't mad at her for it. "I'm not mad."
"Well, you've been ignoring me." she reached over and poked him in the shoulder. "What's going on?"
Finney sighed as he avoided his gaze. "I just wish you'd been there that day. That's all. But, I don't blame you for it. I mean, it's not really your responsibility to take care of me."
"I wish I was too." Sarah promised him. "It won't happen again. Swear."
Finney gave her a look. "On the first call?"
"First call." she nodded her head. "You can call me always. You know that, right? I'll always answer."
Yet, in two years, he would call her. She just wouldn't answer that call, not because she couldn't get to the phone. But because the one he was using didn't work.
Finney smiled. "Even when it's late because a movie freaked me out?"
"Oh, yeah." Sarah grinned. "I got you something."
His eyebrows shot up, scooting closer to the end of the truck as Sarah pulled a small rocket from her pocket. Before he could take it, she turned it upside down and shined the flashlight into his face. "Pretty cool, right?"
"Right." He smiled and took it from her. "This is such a cool model!"
"Yeah, that's what I thought." Sarah agreed. "You should make one just like it. A real one, that flys up into the air."
"Okay, deal." he held his pinkie out for her to connect hers. "You gotta say it back."
"Deal." she said back, locking their pinkies before they let go. "I gotta go, but i'll see you soon. Okay?"
"Okay." he rose the light and blinked it twice at her. "Good-Bye."
Sarah cleared her throat, reaching into her pocket to hold the little one she got, only it was designed in a pencil. She blinked it twice at him from the eraser. "Good-Bye."
Finney was on top of the world for the rest of the night.
Sarah was in Mr.Yamadas car before Vance was even there, looking over when he finally opened up the passengers seat. She'd just found the radio station that was connected with the movie, giving him a grin when he pulled the door shut. "Took you long enough."
"Your little friend wanted to talk." Vance huffed in annoyance as he passed her the popcorn, spilling some in the process.
"Robin?" she checked to make sure he'd gotten butter. He did.
"No. Bruce." he shook his head. "Trying to convince me how nice the baseball team is and how they're "sooo excited" to meet you."
"Aw, he said that?" she gushed with a hand on her heart. "That is so sweet."
"Are you kidding? That's a trap." the blonde looked her way with a stare of disbelief. "Don't be so gullible, it'll get you hurt."
"Why do you think they're so bad?" Sarah tossed her hands up slightly. "I said you could come with me."
"I will go with you." Vance confirmed. "I never said they were bad, you just don't know them. I don't think you should be so trusting."
"I wouldn't be if Bruce wasn't gonna be there. I've known him since we were little." Sarah shrugged, inhaling deeply. "Speaking of...I was wondering if you've ever been to Aspen?"
"Who's Aspen?" he gave her an odd look.
Sarah couldn't help but laugh. "The city. It's about three and a half hours from here."
"No, i've never left Denver." he shrugged his shoulders. "Why? What's in Aspen?"
"My school." she inhaled hesitantly. "They sent a letter asking me to come tour it."
Vance glanced over slightly. "For real?"
"For real." she confirmed with a little grin. "Do you wanna come with me?"
Vance laughed in disbelief. "They don't want me."
"Not to school, to the tour." Sarah laughed with a minor shrug. "My parents can't make it so i'm taking a bus. My grandma lives there so i'm staying with her for the weekend. She has alzheimer's so she doesn't remember Billy going missing, she said I could bring him but...you know."
"So, what makes you think she'll want me to come?" Vance gave a weird look.
"She doesn't, I want you to." Sarah shifted here gaze toward the movie. "She won't mind. If she let Billy and Bingo go after they accidentally destroyed her garden, I think she'll be okay with you."
Vance hid a little grin as he shrugged. "Whatever."
Sarah didn't fight her smile, the side of her arm touching his. "Whatever."
"Sarah. Sarah, wake up." the sound of Billys voice woke Sarah, feeling him shake her. "Oh my god, your grandma is going to have my head."
"Your what?" Sarah sat up, looking over and realizing he'd been off the bed rather then next to her. "It's she sleep walking?"
"Bingo had to pee so I took him outside. He yanked up off those yellow flowers." his eyes were wide in panic. "And when I tried to run after him, I messed up everything else."
"Holy shit." Sarah gapped. "You guys destroyed my grandmas garden?"
"Yes, i'm a horrible house guest." he shook his head. "What do we say?"
"Mm." Sarah thought about it. "I was sleep walking and you were running after me."
"Yeah." Billy nodded, sighing in relief. "Okay, yes. Great idea. Thanks."
"Sure thing." Sarah sat up and saw the mud tracks he tracked through the house. "You didn't even expose of the evidence? You'd be a terrible burglar."
"I throw papers, Sar. Not rob houses."
