"Boy, it's a good thing you drew me a picture."
Meilani McCall smiled sheepishly at the tattoo artist from her seat in the chair. She had dragged her twin, Scott McCall, and her boyfriend, Stiles Stilinski, with her to get a tattoo. Scott had even agreed to get one along with her of a small wolf in honor of her. Meilani had decided on two bands to go around around her bicep, each one representing Scott and Stiles. The boys had tried the whole to the tattoo parlor to get her to spill on the meaning, but she wouldn't.
"Babe, are you sure you don't want to get something like this?" Stiles asked, flipping around the large book of tattoos and showed her a photo that looked all too similar to the Kanima. He slowly lowered the book at the unamused expression she shot him. "Too soon?"
"Maybe just a little," Scott chuckled from his seat next to Meilani, his tattoo already done while Stiles and Meilani filled out forms the tattoo artist handed to them for Meilani to sign. Stiles wasn't big on needles so Meilani tried to keep him out of the room for as long as she could.
"I don't know, Lani, are you sure about this?" Stiles sighed, tossing the book back onto the table behind him. "I mean, these things are pretty permanent, you know? Another thing, why two bands?"
Meilani shrugged and watched as the tattoo artist got his tools ready for Meilani's tattoo. "I just like it."
"But don't you think your first tattoo should have some sort of meaning, you know, or something?"
"Getting a tattoo means something," Meilani countered with an innocent smile.
"She's right," the tattoo artist spoke up, finally having finished getting the tools set up and cleaned up. "Tattoos go back thousands of year. The Tahitian word tatua means to leave a mark. Like a rite of passage."
"Yeah, you see? He gets it," Meilani mused and high-fived the tattoo artist next to her. "Plus, look how nice Scott's came out."
Scott winced when he poked at the bandage wrapped bicep that had the wolf head underneath it. "Beauty is pain right?"
Stiles crossed his arms and he didn't seem all that convinced. "Meilani, the guy is covered in tattoos. Literally."
"Okay, you ready?" the tattoo artist questioned, turning to Meilani with the gun already on and ready to make contact. "You don't have an issue with tattoos, do you?"
Stiles scratched behind his neck once the gun made contact with Meilani's skin. "I actually get a little squeamish, so..."
Meilani sighed when Stiles fainted at the sight of the needle in her skin and she rolled her head to look over at Scott. "Scotty, can you..."
"Yeah," Scott answered before Meilani could finish, hopping off the chair and walking over to his passed out best friend. "Sir, do you have an ice pack or something?"
"Just ask the girl at the front desk. Told her I sent you," the tattoo artist replied, not removing his focus from Meilani's bicep. He rose an eyebrow as Scott dragged Stiles out of the room. "Your boyfriend is something else."
"Tell me about it."
โคโคโคโคโโโโคโคโคโค
Meilani's tattoo was officially done about an hour later and she walked out of the tattoo parlor to meet Scott and Stiles at the Jeep parked right out front. She got into the front seat to see Stiles finally awake with the ice bag pressed to his forehead.
"You okay?" Stiles asked, turning to his girlfriend who hissed when she moved her arm.
"It burns," Meilani mumbled, staring down at her bandage wrapped bicep.
"Yes, you just had your skin stabbed about a hundred thousand times with a needle."
Meilani turned to Scott in the back who didn't look all too convinced either. She didn't remember Scott complaining about his bicep burning. It should hurt, not burn as if someone set fire to her bicep. Another shot of burning hot pain shot through her arm, causing her to gasp out in pain. "It's definitely not supposed to feel like this. Oh, I gotta take this thing off."
Stiles tried to stop his girlfriend from taking off her bandage, but it was too late for him because she had already unwrapped it. Her bicep was bright red and most of the bands had already vanished. Within a minute, the rest of the tattoo had vanished from sight as if it were a patch of dirt on Meilani's bicep and someone ran a wipe over it.
"Aw, it healed," Meilani whined, pouting at her now flawless tanned arm.
"Ah, thank God. I hated it."
"Stiles!"
Stiles flashed his girlfriend a sheepish smile and dodged the slap to the back of the head that Scott went to give him. "Sorry, babe. I know you really wanted it. We'll get you one of those cute little temporary ones."
Meilani huffed and collapsed back against her seat as Stiles pulled out of the tattoo parlor and onto the streets.
"Have either of you spoken to Allison?"
"Nah, we agreed to give each other the summer. No texts or phone calls," Scott replied, propping his chin up on the back of the seat. "I don't even know if she's back from France."
"Yeah, it's a little weird talking to your brother's ex-girlfriend," Meilani agreed, a bit sad over the fact that her relationship with Allison felt even more strained than it had before everything. It sucked because she had really hoped since the whole Kanima drama was over and she and Chris seemed to be on better terms that they'd get to actually be friends. "Plus, I guess I did kind of kill Gerard, so... there's also that."
Stiles rose an eyebrow and glanced away from the red light ahead of him to the twins. "So how do you guys know she won't be back at school then?"
"After everything that happened, I'm not sure she'd even come back at all," Scott replied.
"I think she is," Stiles assured, his focus seeming to be somewhere over Meilani's shoulder. "I'd say pretty definite, you know. Like one hundred percent."
The twins both gave Stiles an odd look until he nodded his head to Meilani right. They both slowly turned to look where Stiles motioned and their eyes widened when they saw Allison and Lydia in the car next to them at the red light. Well, at least that answered the question of whether or not Allison was back in Beacon Hills yet or not.
Scott quickly grabbed Meilani's curly, dirty blonde hair and used it to cover his face when Allison's eyes met theirs. "Stiles, can you please drive?"
"Scott, it's a red light," Stiles argued. "I think we should talk to her, I just think we should say something."
Meilani's eyes widened when Stiles went to reach across her lap and roll down the window. "Stiles, are you crazy?! Can you please not?"
"Oh, my God! Hi! Hey!" Stiles yelled out the window to Lydia and Allison. He rolled his lips into his mouth when Lydia's car suddenly jerked forward and sped down the road, the light now being green. "You know... they probably didn't see us."
Scott slowly dropped Meilani's hair from his face and snapped his gaze to Stiles when he drove behind the girls. "What are you doing?"
"Making a pizza," Stiles quipped, shooting Scott a look. "I'm driving, Scott."
"We're right behind them," Scott whined, keeping to the shadows in the back of the car as if Allison didn't already know he was in the car along with Meilani and Stiles.
"Well, do you see any turns?"
"I don't want it to look like we're following them!" Scott complained and Meilani could hear her brother's heart rate spiking by the second from nerves. "Do something, Stiles, anything!"
Stiles shrugged and slammed on the breaks, the tires screeching on the pavement till the car came to stop. Meilani had to slam her hands on the dashboard to keep her face from smacking with it and Scott yelped when his tattooed bicep hit the back of Meilani's seat.
"A warning next time, maybe!" Meilani snapped at her boyfriend, punching him in the arm out of annoyance. She slowly pushed herself back into her seat and furrowed her eyebrows when the girls stopped a few feet away from them. "They stopped, too."
Suddenly, a deer crashed into the front of Lydia's car and the trio made their way out of the Jeep and over to Lydia's car. The girls had made their way out of the car already and were stood by the trunk to keep their distance from the glass that littered the front seats and street from the shattered windshield.
"You guys okay?" Meilani asked, stopping in between the two girls while the boys checked them both over for any injuries from the glass. Though, Meilani didn't smell blood and they seemed okay minus the rapid beating of their hearts. It made Meilani relax at the knowledge the girls were okay.
"It just came out of nowhere," Allison breathed, her eyes wide from both shock and fear. "But I'm okay."
"Well, I'm not okay!" Lydia cried, her strawberry blonde hair messily styled into a bun. Yet, it still looked almost flawlessly beautiful on her and Meilani wanted to know how the girl did it. "I am totally freaking out. How the hell did it just run into us?"
Meilani slowly approached the front of the car where the now dead deer laid in the broken glass on the dashboard. It was extremely odd how the deer popped out of nowhere and hit the car. Lydia and Allison weren't moving, so surely the deer should have veered around the car in the first place.
"I saw its eyes before it hit us," Lydia continued, slowly walking closer to Meilani with Allison, Scott and Stiles behind her. "It was like it was crazy."
"No... it was scared," Meilani slowly reached out a hand to the animal's neck and jumped back slightly when she could still feel the terror lingering inside. "Actually... terrified." She glanced over her shoulder to the empty, dark road with the full moon high in the sky. The moon barely even affected Meilani at this point and she got better at keeping her emotions in tact during it. It was almost like any other night to her now.
More werewolf drama. Great.
โคโคโคโคโโโโคโคโคโค
"Wakey, wakey," Stiles sang, placing kisses all over Meilani's face to get her to wake up.
Meilani whined and tugged Stiles' comforter over her head to block out both him and the sun that trickled into the room from the window. She pouted when Stiles tugged down the comforter and she poked one eye open to see he had already gotten dressed for the first day of school. His fluffy brown hair sat perfectly messy on top of his head and he wore a pair of jeans, green Vans and a black and green flannel that Meilani bought for him because she thought it brought out his hazel eyes more.
"Do I have to?"
"If I could stay in bed all day with you I would, babe," Stiles said and placed a soft kiss on her forehead. "Now, get up because I have something interesting to show you."
Meilani huffed, but listened to Stiles and grabbed her clothes for the day and stepped into the bathroom next to his room. She took a quick shower and threw her hair into a french braid before she got dressed into a pair of jeans and a lacrosse shirt with her number and name on the back. Picking up her clothes, Meilani brought them back into Stiles' room and dropped them in the hamper since they were the clothes she kept there for emergencies.
"Good morning, you two," Noah Stilinski, Stiles' father and sheriff of Beacon Hills, greeted from the doorway.
"Morning," Meilani smiled warmly at the man and stopped by Stiles' desk where he sat with his laptop open. "What are you doing?"
"You know how many vehicle collisions last year involved deer? Two hundred and forty seven thousand."
Noah rolled his eyes and he looked over Stiles' investigative personality already. Unlike Meilani's mom, Melissa, Noah had no idea about the supernatural and why Stiles felt so passionate about all the cases that popped up. Ever since Meilani was turned, Beacon Hills had become riddled with more work for the police force than ever before. Beacon Hills used to be real boring until Peter Hale decided he wanted to munch on Meilani's side. "Oh, God, please go to school."
"But that's crossing the road," Stiles continued as if Noah hadn't spoken up. "This one last night came right down the middle."
"I'm not gonna beg you."
"Good, I'm impervious to your influence anyway," Stiles mumbled, tapping away at the laptop for more information.
"How about a bribe?"
"Can't meet my price."
"Extortion?"
"You got nothing on me, pal."
Meilani leant against the side of the desk as she watched the two interact in amusement. She met Noah's eyes over Stiles' head who was still distracted by his research. Noah seemed to be silently begging her to help him out and she discreetly nodded to him that she'd handle Stiles and get him out of the house for school. Waiting until Noah stepped out of the room, Meilani pushed herself up off the desk and walked around to the back of Stiles' chair.
Without much of a warning, Meilani grabbed the back of Stiles' chair and gave it one tug, sending it backwards into the closet door. She smiled sweetly at her boyfriend and shut the laptop, crossing one leg in front of the other.
"I hate you."
"I love you, too."
โคโคโคโคโโโโคโคโคโค
"I cannot believe Mom let you get that bike," Meilani commented, crossing her arms as she stood in front of Scott with Stiles next to her. For the twins' birthday, which was still a week and a half away, Melissa got Scott the motorbike he'd been asking for. He wasn't allowed to get a motorcycle so Melissa agreed on the small motorbike instead. Still dangerous, but not as bad as the motorcycle.
Scott smirked at his twin and tucked the helmet under his arm as he got off. "Scared I'll steal your popularity?"
Meilani shrugged and pointed to the two identical motorcycles next to Scott's bike. "Call me when you get something like that."
Stiles laughed at the banter between the twins as they made their way into the school while Meilani mentioned wanting to ask Derek Hale for help on what happened with her tattoo. She hated not being able to have a tattoo along with her twin. A thing they had planned to do together for a while now ever since Melissa had agreed to them doing it so long as they got something with a meaning.
"What do you mean you want to ask Derek for help? Why, why?"
"Because he's got the triskele tattooed on his back. So there has to be a way to do it without healing, right?"
Stiles slapped a hand to his side and Meilani could tell Stiles still wasn't huge on the whole tattoo ordeal. "Okay, yeah, but still, doesn't he have his hands a little full?" He reminded, gesturing to the missing posters of Erica Reyes and Vernon Boyd. Two other teens that Derek had turned to create his pack along with Isaac Lahey, who Meilani actually liked. Erica and Boyd? Not so much.
โคโคโคโคโโโโคโคโคโค
The twins and Stiles sat down in their first class together with Stiles and Scott on either side of Meilani and the class quickly filling with only two seats left. One in front of Scott and one next to Stiles. With one glance around the room, Meilani immediately knew the two girls missing from the class and she could already feel the awkward fill the room even before Allison and Lydia stepped into the room.
Lydia had taken the seat next to Stiles and Allison stood frozen in the front row as she exchanged a desperate look with Lydia. She slowly walked over to the desk and hugged her books close to her chest. "Is anyone sitting here?"
"Uh, no, no. It's all yours. All you," Scott stammered, gesturing to the seat spastically.
Meilani watched as Allison flashed Scott a small smile and took the seat in front of him. She sent Scott a thumbs up along with Stiles in encouragement. Suddenly the whole room erupted in phones dinging and ringing with text messages. Meilani quickly grabbed her phone to see what the mass text message read.
The offing was barred by a black bank of clouds and the tranquil waterway leading to the uttermost ends of the Earth flowed somber under an overcast sky seemed to lead into the heart of an immense darkness
Okay, weird.
Meilani's confusion was answered when a young woman with curly brown hair and brown eyes dressed in a nice blouse, black skirt and beige colored heels walked into the room, reading out the mass text to the class.
"This is the last line to the first book we are going to read," the woman explained, leaning against the front of the desk at the front of the room. "It also the last text you will receive in this class. Phones off, everyone."
The class dragged on after that with the teacher turning to write down some notes on the board she wanted them to jot down before they began the book. Meilani propped her chin in her hand as she quickly jot down the notes on the board until the teacher caught her attention.
"Ms. McCall?" the teacher asked and gestured for her to follow her out of the room after the principal.
Meilani exchanged a look with Stiles and Scott, but reluctantly packed up her stuff and followed after the teacher out of the room.
"I'm sure it's an emergency if your mother needs you to leave school, but I'm gonna give you warning in the nicest possible way. I am well aware of your previous attendance record from last year," the teacher said and Meilani grimaced at the thought of her first year as a werewolf. "I don't wanna see you slip back into old habits. I'm told you're a bright student and could be on your way to Valedictorian next year if you keep your grades up the way you have."
"That's all in the past," Meilani assured the teacher. "It was a... rough year for me, but I promise I'm back into focus."
"Resolutions are only good if you stick with them."
"I will. I promise," Meilani said and made her way out of the high school to get to the hospital as quickly as she could. She switched on her phone to see five missed calls from Melissa and knew that whatever she needed wasn't good. At all.
โคโคโคโคโโโโคโคโคโค
"Why didn't you tell me before, Mom?"
"Honestly, I was hoping I didn't have to," Melissa admitted, leading Meilani through the hospital. "Everything that you've been doing - the extra reading, the bringing your grades back up to where they were before the whole... you know... thing, and you helping Scott keep his grades up through summer school. I didn't want to disrupt a good rhythm."
Meilani stopped Melissa from walking and placed her hands on her mother's shoulder. "Mom, none of it is gonna stop, okay? It'll be better this year. I'll be a better daughter, sister, girlfriend, everything. I promise. So please don't keep things like Isaac being brought into the hospital from me. I have to look out for him."
Melissa ran a hand lovingly down her daughter's face and smiled back. "Okay. Well, Isaac is in room two-fifteen if he isn't already in surgery."
"Thank you," Meilani breathed and kissed her moms' cheek before she rushed off to find Isaac's room. If Melissa was right about Isaac's claw marks on his side healing, then there was no way he could get brought to surgery. The doctors will have no explanation on how he was suddenly fine as if he hadn't been slashed in the first place.
Meilani stepped onto the elevator and pressed the button for the second floor. However, before the doors could close, a walking stick was pressed between the doors. The reopened fully to reveal a blind man with dark sunglasses on and Meilani quickly held the doors open for the man so he could step in safely.
"Would you hit the button for the second floor, please?" the man asked, a British accent in his voice.
Meilani shrugged and pressed the second floor button again so the man knew that it was pressed. The elevator ride was silently awkward and Meilani felt relief flood through her when the doors opened on the second floor.
"Would you mind helping me out for a second?" the man asked, his gaze still straight ahead and placed a hand on Meilani's shoulders.
"Um ... yeah, sure," Meilani breathed, hoping it was quick because she needed to get to Isaac before the surgeons did. She got the man to whatever room and he needed to get to and ran off to find Isaac's room. Much to her luck he wasn't in his room, but he was being wheeled into the elevator in a wheelchair with his chin dropped to his chest.
Meilani noticed the claws the "nurse" had and felt the feeling of dread, flicking out her own claws and canines when the "nurse" turned to face her. She rushed the elevator as the doors began to slowly close, jumping through them just before they closed and crashing into the wall next to Isaac's wheelchair. She slowly got to her feet with her eyes now yellow and fully transformed, facing the wolf that now had red eyes and also fully gone werewolf.
The wolf grabbed Meilani by the front of her shirt and threw her into the wall, picking her up again and throwing her into the adjacent wall. The whole time, Isaac's wheelchair rolling around the elevator as it moved. Meilani was suddenly flung up into the lights above and she grunted when she crashed down to the ground. She wasn't given much time to recover when the wolf grabbed her by the throat, raising her into the air.
"Don't you realize what you're dealing with?" the wolf growled at her. "I'm an alpha.
The elevator doors dinged open and the alpha suddenly dropped Meilani when he was pierced in the back. She pushed herself to sit against the wall and had never been more happy to land eyes on Derek Hale.
"So am I," Derek mocked and flung the other alpha out of the elevator, causing the alpha to slide along the floors. He slowly turned to glance over his shoulder at Meilani who slowly transitioned back. "Shouldn't you be in school?"
โคโคโคโคโโโโคโคโคโค
"Babe, we got a serious problem at school. Ms. Blake's class - "
"Sti, can you tell me about it later?" Meilani pleaded, following after Derek into the Hale house and froze by the end of the stairs while Derek carried Isaac into the living room.
"Well, no. Pretty sure this qualifies for immediate discussion."
"Alright, then you and Scott can come meet me at Derek's," Meilani sighed, already tired from the day and it was only ten AM.
"Derek's house, what? What the hell are you doing at Derek Hale's house?"
Meilani rolled her eyes and turned to see Derek lay Isaac on the table on the other side of the living room. "Just come meet us here, Stiles." She hung up before her boyfriend could protest and jogged into the living room to join Derek and the still sedated Isaac. "Please tell me you don't still live here."
The Hale house looked even worse than she remembered and it was already awful from nearly being burnt to the ground years ago. She didn't know how Derek could still want to hide out here.
"No," Derek replied, squatting down near a piece of floorboard. "The county took it over, but there's something here that I need. It'll help heal a wound from an alpha."
"Yeah, but Isaac healed already."
"Not on the inside," Derek countered, picking up random pieces of wolfsbane that Meilani didn't even know how would Isaac.
Meilani chewed on her lower lip as she watched Derek in deep thought. "Can you tell me who that was back there, Derek? That alpha."
"A rival pack. It's my problem, not yours, okay? I know you want to help, Meilani, and you did. I owe you one. Now go home," Derek instructed, grabbing the last of the wolfsbane he needed and stood to his full height. "Go back to being a teenager like you have been all summer, okay?
Meilani slowly rubbed her hand over still tattoo-less bicep and glanced up to Derek who now had his back turned to her at the table Isaac laid on. "Uh, hey, Derek? If you want to repay back that favor now... there is something you can do for me."
โคโคโคโคโโโโคโคโคโค
Derek's eyes flared red as he inspected Meilani's bicep that originally had the two bands on it. Stiles and Scott stood to the side after finally arriving at the Hale house, explaining how a mass amount of birds flew right into the window of their English classroom. It was so sudden and dead birds littered the classroom until a few minutes ago when they finally got cleaned out. It was definitely odd and Meilani didn't know how to view everything that was going on. Maybe it was the new rival pack in town causing all the weird animal habits.
"I can see it," Derek said, running his hand gently over where the tattoo used to be. "It's two bands, right? What does it mean?"
Meilani shrugged and drew a small circle with two larger ones into the dust on the small table between her and Derek. "I don't know. Just something I drew with my fingers I guess."
"Why is this so important to you?"
"Do you know what the tattoo means?"
"To mark something," Stiles responded for Derek.
Meilani nodded slightly and fiddled with the end of her t-shirt. "In Tahitian. In Samoan, it means open wound. I actually only ever wanted a tattoo because Scott wanted one when he turned eighteen, you know? As we grew up, Scott and I did pretty much everything together and the same. He was the only person I really had in my life besides Stiles and my mom. After our dad left, Scott really took over and looked out for me, along with Stiles. Scott got a wolf head to represent me and... the two bands represent the two boys that were there for me the whole time, you know? I decided to do it now as a reward."
"A reward for what?" Derek asked, actually sounding curious.
"For finally realizing that I can't exactly save everyone," Meilani responded and avoided the gazes from the three boys. "It's always been so hard for me since I turned to not save everyone. I felt like a failure every time I was too late. Stiles had to give me multiple long talks on how I can't stress myself over things I can't control. Even though I know I can't save everyone, it still hurts. Kind of like - "
"An open wound," Scott finished for his twin, gaze softening at the knowledge of why his sister had suddenly begged and pleaded to get the tattoos now.
Derek grabbed the device that he had to use to tattoo Meilani. "I am warning you right now, the pain is gonna be worse than anything you've ever felt."
"Ah, that's great," Stiles mumbled.
"Do it," Meilani assured Derek, holding out her arm for him.
Derek flicked on the the blow torch and Meilani suddenly felt nervous about the whole thing.
"That is too much for me. I think that's my cue to go," Stiles stammered and made it two steps before he was hauled back by Derek.
"No, you can help Scott hold your girlfriend down."
Stiles gulped and slowly made his way behind Meilani, holding down one shoulder while Scott held the other and avoiding the sight of the large blow torch. "Oh, God."
To say the pain was the worst thing Meilani had ever felt in her life would be an understatement. Derek was quite literally burning her skin and the pain was so unbearable that Meilani turned without meaning to, a loud growl escaping through her lips. Though, she only felt the pain for another minute or two longer before she passed out from the intense pain.
โคโคโคโคโโโโคโคโคโค
Meilani's eyes snapped open about an hour later, sweat glistening her skin and she had never been more glad to have decided to braid her hair because it was kept off her damp skin. She glanced down to her arm where two thick bands sat on her left bicep and a small smile appeared on her face. "It worked!"
"Well, it looks pretty damn permanent now," Stiles commented as Meilani stood up and grabbed her jacket, walking between the boys to make their way through Derek's living room.
"I needed something permanent. Everything that happened to us - everything has changed so fast. Everything's so, uh..." Meilani trailed off and stopped by the bottom of the stairs that lead up to the second floor.
"Ephemeral," Scott chimed in and grinned at the shocked looks on his best friend's and twin's faces at the use of his big word. "It's my word of the day."
"Studying for the pSATs?" Stiles asked.
"Yep."
"Nice."
Meilani giggled and opened up the door, tilting her head when she noticed the front was now painted red. "Der, you painted the door. Why'd you paint the door?"
"Go home, Meilani."
"And why only one side?" Meilani asked, running her hand down the front of the door. What was Derek hiding? She flicked out her werewolf nails and ran it down the front of the door, ignoring Derek's protests. Eventually, she got enough of the paint away to reveal a symbol painted onto the door. It looked a triangle with zig-zag lines coming out of each point on the shape. "The birds at school and the deer last night. Just like the night I got trampled by the deer when I got bit by the alpha. How many are there, Derek?"
Derek crossed his arms and let out a heavy sigh. "A pack of 'em. An alpha pack."
"All of them? How does that even work?" Stiles questioned, a flash of concern and worry appearing on both his and Scott's faces.
"I hear there's some kind of leader," Derek informed, shrugging since he didn't appear to know much more than Meilani, Scott and Stiles. "He's called Deucalion. We know they have Boyd and Erica. Peter, Isaac and I have been looking for him the past four months."
Meilani slowly walked closer to Derek and stopped a few feet away from him. "Let's say you find them. How do you deal with an alpha pack?"
"With all the help I can get."
Meilani glanced over her shoulder to Scott and Stiles who looked like they wanted to deal with anything but the alpha pack. They had no choice because Meilani wasn't just going to let Derek, Peter and Isaac deal with this themselves.
"Where is she?" Isaac sat up on the table, causing the other four to jump and turn to him. "Where's the girl?"
"What girl?"
