CHAPTER THIRTY FOUR—
just a safety measure.
"Jesus christ." Harvest stared at the photo Kinsey showed of a dead Eden at the bottom of the well. "Why didn't you get me for this?"
"You were convincing Tyler about calling the police." Kinsey shrugged as she shook her head. "I didn't want to give him another reason to poke around."
"You didn't...kill her, did you?" Doug looked to Kinsey with a slightly worried look on his face.
"Yeah, I think I would have mentioned that, Dough." Kinsey spoke in disbelief in his direction.
"Unless you were sleep walking." Logan pointed out as he leaned on the table. "Happens, you know? Said so on the First 48."
"That's not what happened." Kinsey shook her head, not noticing how her sister and her so called best friend hadn't made eye contact the entire time and stood on different sides of the table.
"Poor Eden." Zadie shook her head.
"So you think Gabe did it?" Abby stared at Kinsey with curious eyes.
"Gabe trying to commit murder? Nooo, could never be." Harvest shook her head with a sarcastic eye roll. "Not like it's happened before."
"Not like he did actually kill me or anything." Logan shrugged. "So not like him."
"Right? That's what i'm saying." Harvest agreed. They both were forced on how awkward it would be to not realize that things would always come natural for them.
"It's hard to say how long she's been down there." Kinsey shook her head as she looked to Abby.
"Should we call the cops?" Doug suggested.
"So, suddenly Keyhouse becomes a crime scene?" Zadie rose her eyebrows in his direction. "No one wants that, Dough."
"Yeah, imagine if they get hold of my books and read about Hailey brutally murdering Gavin." Harvest gave him a shake of her head. "Life behind bars for me once they piece together Gabes disappearance. Jail is not a place for a redhead."
"So what do we do with the body?" Abby looked up at Kinsey.
"We can't just leave her down there." the brunette shook her head.
"We can't? Think of it like a natural burial. People pay big money for that." Dough spoke quickly.
"In their well house?" Logan gave a gross look. "What happens if one of them falls over? Just getting some quality time with Eden for a bit?"
"Why would any of them fall over the well, Logan?" Dough gapped at him.
"Why would you ever roll down a bunch of stairs? Natural disasters happen!" his eyes got wider as he argued.
"Another way to look at it is that the well is a solid receptacle." Zadie cut in with a shake of her head. "We pour enough acid down there, and it'll do the job."
"That dark." Abby shook her head.
"That's brutal." Harvest agreed with her. "I hate to sound like a mood killer, but I don't wanna have no remorse. Even if Eden wasn't the best person, we can't just leave her like that. We aren't like him, we aren't Gabe."
"We absolutely are not Gabe." Logan cringed in agreement. "I'd rather kill myself."
"Horrible words for the scenario." Zadie gave him a look.
"I know what we need to do." Kinsey cut in as she shifted her eyes back to her friends.
"What happens now?" Dough asked once the group had wheeled Eden's body out toward the cliffs.
"We should say something." Kinsey looked their way .
"She was a force." Zadie exhaled.
"Her haircut was undeniably chic." Dough agreed. They all looked at him. "It was!"
"She had a really good Moon placement." Logan nodded his head. "It made me forget what her sun sign was."
"She gave me a ride home once, after a bad day at school. I gotta into a bad fight with Gabe and she told me to suck it up and dump him if he made me upset like that. I should have listen to her, but even though I didn't it still meant something to me." Harvest shrugged her shoulders as she pushed her hands into her jacket pocket.
"She could have turned on us after my fear monster attacked her. But she didn't." Kinsey shrugged with a small shake to her head, staring at Eden's dead body. "She helped us. She paid for it."
"Well, she lived for drama." Zadie laughed slightly. "So in a way, this is kind of a fitting send-off."
"Her Mom was a piece of shit, so we shouldn't worry about the guilt of not telling her family." Harvest nodded her head. "Eden wouldn't want her to know, I don't think."
Kinsey sung her a small song as they each helped Eden's body out of the wheel barrel and tossed her as gently as they could over the side of the cliff. Logan took Harvest' hand as they looked over the cliff together, watching her body fall into the water.
"Oh, thanks." Logan gave Harvest a small smile as she gave him a thing of lemonade. "For my blood sugar?"
"For your blood sugar." she agreed with a minor grin. "You okay? With what happened earlier?"
Logan shrugged. "I've felt worse."
He has, she knew he had. The redhead nodded her head. "I try not to think about what happened that day. Because it was one of the worst days of my life. The car accident. But, when you mentioned it earlier, it made me feel guilty for not continuing to ask you how you've been holding up with it."
"I don't really like to talk about it, anyways." he shrugged his shoulders. "I'm glad you don't ask."
She nodded her head. "But....how have you been feeling?"
He shrugged his shoulders. "It's getting better, but it's bad at night. When i'm sleeping, your playlist you made me has been helping though."
It made her smile a little bit. "I'm really glad. That's what it's for."
"What about you though?" he wasn't an idiot, he knew the signs of someone who wasn't asleep. "How's your sleeping?"
"It only happens when I literally can't keep my eyes open any more." she admitted to him. "Caffeine is like my best friend now."
Logan frowned as he nodded. "What if I stay with you?"
"What?" she was confused.
"That wasn't a line. Swear." he promise with a comical look. "Maybe if someone is with you, you'll feel safer."
She rose her eyebrows at him. "That sure sounds like a line."
"It's not!" he laughed as she did the same. "Just a suggestion."
"Okay." she exhaled, messing with the straw in her lemonade. "I did feel safe yesterday. In the green house."
Finally, he though. He wasn't sure if they'd talk about it, apart of him was starting to think he imagined it.
"Me too." he gave her a shy smile with a nod. "Wanna do it again? To stay safe, of course?"
"Oh, to definitely stay safe." she joked in return.
