good evening everyone !! it's been a while since i've posted stuff to do with TWL on here so i apologise for that! i miss talking with everyone and reading peoples' comments — sorry if i haven't been very good with that over the past three or so months, for ages it was because of anxiety about the plagiariser and now it's just because i'm out of the swing of things

since i'm in a bit of a writer's block with TWL atm, i figured i'd do these luli character asks! there's a lot of them, and i'll be doing them all so there's no need to drop numbers or anything  ♡ (⇀ 3 ↼)

warning for mild potential spoilers ahead (?) for parts of TWL that haven't yet been posted. i'll try to steer clear of spoilers obviously but if you want to be totally in the dark about luli and the future of the waste land, just be aware!

okay, let's go!

1 .  DOES YOUR CHARACTER HAVE SIBLINGS OR FAMILY MEMBERS IN THEIR AGE GROUP?  ━  luli is an only child !!

2 .  WHAT IS/WAS YOUR CHARACTER'S RELATIONSHIP WITH THEIR MOTHER LIKE?  ━  my god, i could talk about luli's relationship with her parents ALL DAY but they're also kind of significant spoilers that i want to build on throughout the series so for now i'll stick with it in most simplicity. luli's relationship with her mother is positive

3 .  WHAT IS/WAS YOUR CHARACTER'S RELATIONSHIP WITH THEIR FATHER LIKE?  ━  same deal with avoiding spoilers as the question about her mom. luli's relationship with her father is negative

4 .  HAS YOUR CHARACTER EVER WITNESSED SOMETHING THAT FUNDAMENTALLY CHANGED THEM? IF SO, DOES ANYONE ELSE KNOW?  ━  when luli was thirteen she witnessed zuko's agni kai vs firelord ozai, and that was the moment that ended up defining her journey. she'd already had major reservations about the fire nation and was considering leaving (only held back by fear), but that moment pushed her decision to abandon her home. it's also largely the most traumatising moment of her life. as of now, the only important people who know that she was witness to the event are her father, zuko, iroh, mai, ty lee, and azula. the gaang don't even know how zuko got his scar, much less luli's relationship with him

5 .  ON AN AVERAGE DAY, WHAT CAN BE FOUND IN YOUR CHARACTER'S POCKETS?  ━  luli doesn't really have pockets but the closest thing is the singular tessen fan that suki gave her, tucked into the fabric belt at her hip. she rather carries around a pack with her stuff in it

6 .  DOES YOUR CHARACTER HAVE RECURRING THEMES IN THEIR DREAMS?  ━  while majority of her dreams are nightmares, she does have some recurring themes in non-negative dreams. in particular, memories of zuko or her childhood friends, and dragons

7 .  DOES YOUR CHARACTER HAVE RECURRING THEMES IN THEIR NIGHTMARES?  ━  yes! literally all of her childhood trauma; zuko's agni kai; her father; her mother; victims of the fire nation to flames / the world burning; and later the gaang. majority of her dreams do happen to be nightmares

8 .  HAS YOUR CHARACTER EVER FIRED A GUN? IF SO, WHAT WAS THEIR FIRST TARGET?  ━  guns don't exist in the atla universe. however, i have thought extensively about luli in a modern au and i am fond of the idea that she would definitely shoot ozai if he ever turned up in front of her

9 .  IS YOUR CHARACTER'S CURRENT SOCIOECONOMIC STATUS DIFFERENT THAN IT WAS WHEN THEY WERE GROWING UP?  ━  very much so. luli grew up very wealthy, part of a high-ranking family, with a good education in both general learning and combat. but she abandoned that all when she left the fire nation. she still maintains a lot of money but she is kind of a nomad wandering the world and literally sleeps outside

10 .  DOES YOUR CHARACTER FEEL MORE COMFORTABLE WITH MORE CLOTHING OR LESS CLOTHING?  ━  tbh, luli doesn't really mind. she's more partial to covering up, just in case someone was to recognise her: she hopes that the shades of green will help mask her fire nation appearance. but when she's comfortable around the gaang, or in the heat of the fire nation, she doesn't feel the need to have so many outer layers of her uniform on

11 .  IN WHAT SITUATION WAS YOUR CHARACTER THE MOST AFRAID THEY'VE EVER BEEN?  ━  sozin's comet and the aftermath of the crystal caverns in ba sing se, no i will not elaborate

12 .  IN WHAT SITUATION WAS YOUR CHARACTER THE MOST CALM THEY'VE EVER BEEN?  ━  when she's sitting around a campfire with the gaang, happy and content, leaning on a sleeping bag and with toph's legs thrown over her lap. the rest of her friends nearby. any time like that

13 .  IS YOUR CHARACTER BOTHERED BY THE SIGHT OF BLOOD? IF SO, IN WHAT WAY?  ━  not particularly. luli can deal with blood generally—she's faced her fair share of injuries and she's very good at patching people up. she doesn't faint or feel ill or anything. she can, however, be triggered by injuries of other kinds when they remind her of certain situations from her past

14 .  DOES YOUR CHARACTER REMEMBER NAMES OR FACES EASIER?  ━  hmmm, i would say faces. she's met so many people in her sixteen years that names start to blur together, but luli rarely forgets a face

15 .  IS YOUR CHARACTER PREOCCUPIED WITH MONEY OR MATERIAL POSSESSION? WHY OR WHY NOT?  ━  eh, not particularly. she hasn't lived lavishly in years now and though she always loves a good shop, luli isn't particularly bothered by owning many material possessions. she's constantly on the move and therefore only keeps what's practical or personal to her

16 .  WHICH DOES YOUR CHARACTER IDEALIZE MOST: HAPPINESS OR SUCCESS?  ━  happiness 100%. she just wants to have a happy life and help those around her have the same <3

17 .  WHAT WAS YOUR CHARACTER'S FAVOURITE TOY AS A CHILD?  ━  will not elaborate due to spoilers but it's a porcelain doll. other than that (which was barely a play-toy at all and was more a shelf-decorative), her father didn't really let her play with toys

18 .  IS YOUR CHARACTER MORE LIKELY TO ADMIRE WISDOM, OR AMBITION IN OTHERS?  ━  luli admires both, but she's more inclined to admire ambition. mostly because ambition, in her experience, means struggling and overcoming obstacles to get what you want—and luli can empathise

19 .  WHAT IS YOUR CHARACTER'S BIGGEST RELATIONSHIP FLAW? HAS THIS FLAW DESTROYED RELATIONSHIPS FOR THEM BEFORE?  ━  luli trusts way, way too easily. she trusted zuko way too much and it hurt her countless times. ultimately, breaking her trust will forever fragment the relationship. she's also too eager to step in front of those she cares about in dangerous situations (those friends who are younger than her) and it can sometimes give the impression that she's babying them when that's not her intention

20 .  IN WHAT WAYS DOES YOUR CHARACTER COMPARE THEMSELVES TO OTHERS? DO THEY DO THIS FOR THE SAKE OF SELF-VALIDATION, OR SELF-CRITICISM?  ━  luli compares herself to others a lot, mainly in the position of self-criticism. she is constantly comparing herself to her father and members of the fire nation—which terrifies her. she compares her firebending to the weapon of fear used against innocent civilians, and her appearance to the faces in the fire nation that people might be afraid of. basically, even with all the good she's done, she struggles to see herself as anything apart from them. self-validation comparisons will come much later in the story :)

21 .  IF SOMETHING TRAGIC OR NEGATIVE HAPPENS TO YOUR CHARACTER, DO THEY BELIEVE THEY MAY HAVE CAUSED OR DESERVED IT, OR ARE THEY QUICK TO BLAME OTHERS?  ━  luli is quick to put the blame on herself, even though she logically knows she's not responsible for what happened (it's a whole arc <3). for example, zuko's agni kai: being that most notable traumatic event in her life she blames herself for not stopping it; for not doing better; for maybe not doing enough to help heal his scar. she is a largely self-blaming person, and it eats away at her constantly

22 .  WHAT DOES YOUR CHARACTER LIKE IN OTHER PEOPLE?  ━  luli values kindness and fun above all else, and she appreciates when someone is trustworthy and honest. she also likes people with a bit of spunk in them, which namely everyone in the gaang has

23 .  WHAT DOES YOUR CHARACTER DISLIKE IN OTHER PEOPLE?  ━  anger (she criticises herself in this a lot), irrationality, the inability to open up, mixed messages, cruelty. she's someone who often tries to look for the best in people but some traits she just can't handle. though luli has a good heart, it's important to recognise that she's still only 16, a child, and she won't always get along with everyone

24 .  HOW QUICK IS YOUR CHARACTER TO TRUST SOMEONE ELSE?  ━  it depends on the person. luli trusts relatively easily, though she rarely ever shows anyone her firebending unless they've done something to earn it (she's had a lot of issues with it before). once you have her full trust, it's basically undying

25 .  HOW QUICK IS YOUR CHARACTER TO SUSPECT SOMEONE ELSE? DOES THIS CHANGE IF THEY ARE CLOSE WITH THAT PERSON?  ━  luli's intuition about dodgy people tends to be pretty good, she's able to pick up on intentions quite well. however, if it's people she cares about, luli is a lot less likely to be suspicious or expect betrayal. this is proven mostly with zuko. honestly, luli never would have seen him turning on her coming. she never does, even the amount of times it happens, because she previously had so much trust in him.

26 . HOW DOES YOUR CHARACTER BEHAVE AROUND CHILDREN?  ━  luli loves kids! she is one herself, so the bar for a 'child' to her is pretty low, but she's good at adopting an immediate older-sister-like persona for them. it wasn't always like this (though she has always been a nurturing figure), but after spending so much time outside of the fire nation and interacting with refugee children, she's come to deal really well with them

27 . HOW DOES YOUR CHARACTER NORMALLY DEAL WITH CONFRONTATION?  ━  it depends on the situation. if it's dangerous and confrontation could lead to them being surrounded, she'll hold back. however if there's no choice luli wouldn't hesitate to step forward and put herself right in the confrontation between the opponent and the gaang. if it's zuko, well... luli will throw down with him any day, even if it will place her in danger

28 .  HOW QUICK OR SLOW IS YOUR CHARACTER TO RESORT TO PHYSICAL VIOLENCE IN A CONFRONTATION?  ━  as a firebender, keeping her cool isn't really her thing. unless it's a confrontation with someone she really cares about (like one of the gaang), luli will prepare to throw down within a few seconds. particularly when it comes to zuko in season 1 and 2—she's still learning to control her anger

29 .  WHAT DID YOUR CHARACTER DREAM OF BEING OR DOING AS A CHILD? DID THAT DREAM COME TRUE?  ━  she dreamed about aiding the avatar and getting away from her home, and yes it did come true 🥺🥺

30 .  WHAT DOES YOUR CHARACTER FIND REPULSIVE OR DISGUSTING?  ━  loaded answer, but the way some people treat other human beings. she will never not be disgusted by the way the fire nation treats others, or how people like jet treat innocent civilians of the fire nation, or how some people treat children. she's repulsed by it. in a more 'ew' way, luli thinks birds are gross and freaky

31 .  DESCRIBE A SCENARIO IN WHICH YOUR CHARACTER FEELS MOST COMFORTABLE  ━  aw, kind of a repeat of the 'calm' question but luli honestly just feels most comfortable with the gaang. doing something mundane like relaxing on appa's back as he flies or setting up camp. they're her family and she loves them to bits

32 .  DESCRIBE A SCENARIO IN WHICH YOUR CHARACTER FEELS MOST UNCOMFORTABLE  ━  high-key anywhere in the fire nation. she's homesick for it but terrified of it at the same time. it holds a lot of bad memories and she's on edge every time she's there. it makes her feel physically nauseous

33 .  IN THE FACE OF CRITICISM, IS YOUR CHARACTER DEFENSIVE, SELF-DECAPRATING, OR WILLING TO IMPROVE?  ━  typically, luli is defensive at first in a knee-jerk reaction, but if it regards her background from the fire nation she's more soft and understanding. however, she's always trying to improve !

34 .  IS YOUR CHARACTER MORE LIKELY TO KEEP TRYING A SOLUTION/METHOD THAT DIDN'T WORK THE FIRST TIME, OR IMMEDIATELY MOVE ON TO A DIFFERENT SOLUTION/METHOD?  ━  luli is, like, not the plan-maker so she'll kind of go with whatever sokka and the others think. she comes up with a lot of smart ideas but she's not the leader of their group. however, if they're proposing to continue trying a dangerous method that's already failed once, that poses a serious hazard to their safety, luli will advocate for something else. unless she's alone and is having to come up with plans by herself, in which case it totally depends on the situation

35 .  HOW DOES YOUR CHARACTER BEHAVE AROUND PEOPLE THEY LIKE?  ━  luli totally opens up around people she cares about and gets along with. she's carefree, jesting, light-hearted, and is just overall super warm. once she gets to know people better too, then she becomes this soft protective force where she watches over them at all times even without really thinking about it. plus, it helps when she can really be herself and is allowed to use her firebending around them, without worry about getting in trouble for it

36 .  HOW DOES YOUR CHARACTER BEHAVE AROUND PEOPLE THEY DISLIKE?  ━  luli will let it be known. there aren't a lot of people that luli truly hates in the world, but when she's in their presence she's a totally different person from the one we usually see. she's volatile, dismissive, bitter, and angry. she has a trouble keeping her lid on her rage while in their presence. once again, this is because a lot of the people who she truly dislikes have done some awful things and really deserve it. she's more likely to ignore them and then snap—a totally different person from how she is with the gaang

37 .  IS YOUR CHARACTER MORE CONCERNED WITH DEFENDING THEIR HONOUR, OR PROTECTING THEIR STATUS?  ━  i'd say that, interestingly, she's more concerned with defending her honour. she wants the world to know that she's not loyal to the fire nation, that she's not a bad firebender, and that she's trying to do good. like zuko, her own honour is paramount

38 .  IS YOUR CHARACTER MORE LIKELY TO REMOVE A PROBLEM/THREAT, OR REMOVE THEMSELVES FROM A PROBLEM/THREAT?  ━  if there's a threat, luli's going to remove it, because it probably won't go away otherwise. in a flight or fight situation, she's an immediate fight

39 .  HAS YOUR CHARACTER EVER BEEN BITTEN BY AN ANIMAL? HOW WERE THEY AFFECTED (OR UNAFFECTED)?  ━  luli got bitten by a komodo crane once and never recovered 

40 .  HOW DOES YOUR CHARACTER TREAT PEOPLE IN SERVICE JOBS?  ━  luli's not a karen. the only person she bullies in a service job is zuko (better known as lee from the tea shop), and that's mostly warranted 

41 .  DOES YOUR CHARACTER FEEL THAT THEY DESERVE TO HAVE WHAT THEY WANT, WHETHER IT BE MATERIAL OR ABSTRACT, OR DO THEY FEEL THEY MUST EARN IT FIRST?  ━  this is an interesting question because it's very apt for luli. she doesn't care much about material possessions, but in terms of abstract possessions (such as honour), luli 100% believes it's something you must earn. it's her whole reason for her journey in the first place. she wants to prove herself, and restore her own honour and the honour of the fire nation. she knows that without earning something, it's worth nothing

42 .  HAS YOUR CHARACTER EVER HAD A PARENTAL FIGURE WHO WAS NOT RELATED TO THEM?  ━  for sure! ursa was a motherly figure when she was a child in her later years in the fire nation, because luli was so close to zuko. iroh, as well, was partly an important adult figure to her—more, an uncle figure, as he was mostly someone she went to wisdom for. luli also looks up to hakoda after she meets him. she needs some good parental figures lol

43 .  HAS YOUR CHARACTER EVER HAD A DEPENDENT FIGURE WHO WAS NOT RELATED TO THEM?  ━  most definitely. the gaang, in many ways, are all dependent on her. she's the oldest, even if only older than sokka by a year, and to each of them she is an older sister figure. she's the type of sister who looks after them whenever they get sick or hurt, who will put herself in front of them, who will jest with them, who cooks for them, etc. it's an interesting relationship, because they're all so similar in age to each other that she depends on them all too. they all rely on each other, as friends and found family siblings

44 .  HOW EASY OR DIFFICULT IS IT FOR YOUR CHARACTER TO SAY "I LOVE YOU"? CAN THEY SAY IT WITHOUT MEANING IT?  ━  when luli says "i love you", she means it. there's no bullshit there. she finds it easy to say because for the majority, it's platonic or familial. even for zuko, it had always started out platonic. so it's never been difficult for her to say. but when she says "i hate you", too, she also truly means it

45 . WHAT DOES YOUR CHARACTER BELIEVE WILL HAPPEN TO THEM AFTER THEY DIE? DOES THIS BELIEF SCARE THEM?  ━  towards the end of the series, luli begins to believes that after she dies her soul will ascend to the spirit world, and will eventually be reincarnated into a member of the next generation's team avatar (friendships can last more than one lifetime). she also believes that this has happened thousands of times before and thousands of times again. so, no, that belief doesn't scare her. she might be terrified of dying, but her belief of the afterlife actually soothes her a lot

i'm sorry for being ia from TWL recently. even though the "drama" came to an end over a month ago it's still really messing with me mentally and i'm struggling to log into social media (including wattpad) at the moment. so i'm honestly really sorry if i seem like i'm ignoring comments right now, or like i'm ignoring TWL — i get extremely overwhelmed due to anxiety as is and this situation is still negatively affecting me, and basically i'm just struggling to get the energy to reply. but i really appreciate all your comments :) genuinely

and i want to start working on TWL again, but since the plagiarism situation directly invovled it i'm still struggling to get back into its rhythm. i'm definitely dedicated to keep telling and finish luli's story, though! i have a chapter ready to release on monday  (꜆꜄ ˃ ³ ˂)꜆꜄꜆
