** warning : long chapter ish **
Raindrops tapped gently against the windowpane, casting a soothing rhythm into Mike's bedroom as he and (Y/N) prepared for another night at Freddy's Pizzeria. The gray clouds outside seemed to mirror her somber mood, a stark contrast to the lively atmosphere they had once shared.
She sat on Mike's desk chair, her eyes tracing the path he took as he leaped on the bed, attempting to retrieve a poster that stubbornly clung to the ceiling, hearing the bed squeak each time he jumped up to reach for it.
Unbeknownst to her, Mike and her twin brother, Isaac, had noticed the change in her demeanor. The faraway look in her eyes, the shadows that lingered beneath them – signs of a fear she hadn't voiced to anyone, not even to the ones closest to her.
"This is not how I imagined to here the bed squeak for the first time." She mumbled to herself out loud sighing, placing her cheek into her palm teasingly watching him fail to snatch the Nebraska poster.
He paused his jumping for a second to turn his head back to her, raising his eyebrows up in surpise at the suggestive words, "And here I thought I was the only one thinking that." He shot back in a husk breathing heavily, causing her eyes to widen and turn away from him.
Seeing that reaction from her had him chuckling through his teeth, and went back to trying to grasp the paper stuck to the ceiling. As Mike struggled to reach the poster, (Y/N) stood up going to help,
"Here, move for a second," She ordered in a steady tone, and gently pushed him to the side as his hands lingered near her waist not wanting for her to get hurt doing this.
Once she was standing on the bed, and reached up, her fingers grazed the edge of the poster, to which only gains a piece of it. Her balance teetering precariously on the edge of the bed. In her attempt to grab it, she lost her footing, tumbling off the bed to the side with a yelp.
His eyes went wide in alarm at her toppling over, cursing out he moved his body to catch hers with his instead of on the floor. Quick as lightning, Mike's strong arms enveloped her, both wrapped around her waist and upper back.
She bonked her head against his collarbones mid way, causing him to wince a bit. Their eyes met intensely, a potent silence enveloping them. (Y/N) felt her cheeks grow warm with embarrassment, aware of the warmth of his body against hers.
"Nice catch, Micheal." Her no longer steady voice mused out in a whisper, followed by a shy smile crossing her lips feeling his hair tickle her forehead from how close they were. Her back was pressed against his awkwardly, and head turned sideways to face his above hers.
Mike remained silent for some reason, causing her to squirm in his hold. His gaze, intense and tender, held her captive. His dark eyes flickered over her face features to take it all in, from the crease over her forehead, to the very few beauty marks and the way her lips parted when he moved his attention to them.
In that intimate moment, his hand moved up to cradle the back of her head. Very slowly he leaned in, his lips drawing dangerously close to hers, their breaths mingling, on the verge of crossing a line.
But just then, the voices of Abby and Isaac penetrated the room, shattering the spell that bound them, "What in the world are you two doing?" Issac's strict voice questions, but they all knew he was teasing.
The duo turn to look at their amused siblings standing in the doorway, and then back to each other, now realizing what they almost did. Flustered and embarrassed, (Y/N) and Mike broke away from each other.
"I, uh, we were just... trying to get the poster," He stammered placing her back down, voice cracking slightly, his cheeks tinged with a deep shade of red, "Abby, do you need something?" His irritated gaze shifted to Issac who was snickering, "Or is it that this bum can't help you?"
Issac faked his offended gasp lifting a hand up to his chest where his heart would be, while Abby exchanged a knowing glance with him, "No." She answered brushing down the security jacket she had on, "We didn't mean to interpuet though."
(Y/N)'s eye twitched in growing embarrassment again avoiding Mike's gaze turned to her, "You really weren't, I can assure you." She chuckled nervously and swallowed the lump in her throat, "But you do need to give Mike back the jacket, Abbs. We need to go to work."
"I know. I'm coming with you. And so is Issac!" Abby chirped grabbing the said males hand in hers, who looked away sheepishly like nothing happened, and paled feeling the other twos scolding gazes on him.
Mike gently took the piece of the poster from her hand which made their fingers brush, and bent down a bit to Abby's height, "No, you're not." He retorted, "Izzy is looking after you, until he has to work. And than Max will take over."
Abby stubbornly shakes her head stomping her foot onto the carpet, which caused (Y/N) to step forward placing a hand against Mike's chest to push him back softly. His brows furrowed confused watching her, but stays silent as she squatted down to his sister.
"Look Abbs, you can't come with us, alright?" She reached up to tuck a loose strain of hair behind Abby's ear who was pouting at her, and Issac beside them both, "However, if you're a good girl, maybe eventually you will be able to get a job like ours." She added smiling, and took smaller her hands, "For now, you gotta look after our home, and Izzy for me, okay?"
Mike watched with an affectionate glint in his eyes, loving how his two best girls were getting along better than he ever could. He felt a nudge to his side, and glanced a bit to see Issac smirking at him knowingly, causing him to roll his eyes embarrassed.
"I mean, I don't need looking after." Issac puffed out his chest to look extra strong for Abby, earning a giggle from her still being talked to by (Y/N), "I'm big and strong. That's what happens when you eat all your veggies, Abbs." He added playfully poking her nose.
The little girl pushed him hand away giggling some more amused, and looked back to the girls soft (E/C) eyes, "Alright. Here's the jacket." She gave in huffing, slipping off the material and handed it back to her.
(Y/N) grinned widely taking the jacket from her, standing back up to her full height ruffling Abby's hair, and shuffled back next to Mike. Her brother stepped forward to playfully pick Abby up in his arms like a monkey, making her squeal excitedly.
"Be careful you two." He warned in his accented tone looking between the duo, before his gaze hardened more on Mike, "You better watch out for my twin, bro. I don't want to find a scratch on her when you guys come back home."
Mike gulped nervously at how scary Issac could get, but nodded his head reassuringly knowing he'd risk himself before he let anything bad happen to her. While she scoffed fondly waving off her brother, who smiled farewell at them walking out of the room with Abby hearing the front door open knowing Max was here now.
As Abby and Isaac left, the room fell into a hushed silence. (Y/N) and Mike avoided each other's eyes, their hearts racing from the intensity of the moment before.
"We should probably go and get ready for work now, Mike." She mumbled softly breaking the silence between them in his bedroom, features being lit up by his lamp on the bedside table as she fiddled with her let down hair.
He hummed in agreement low in the back of his throat, turning his entire body to face her tense once, and brushed his fingers along hers by her side gently ever so slightly. This caught her attention, and looked up to him.
In the wake of their near encounter, they shared a shy, embarrassed smile, acknowledging the unspoken desires and feelings that lingered between them.
🎈💭
The night was shrouded in a heavy darkness, the rain falling in torrents, washing the world in a glistening sheen. The rhythmic patter of raindrops against the car roof mingled with the distant rumble of thunder, creating an eerie symphony that filled the atmosphere with a sense of foreboding.
Mike had already parked the car where he normally would, and they stepped out of the safety of the car, the rain soaking through their clothes, and their footsteps muffled by the heavy downpour.
The neon glow of Freddy's Pizzeria sign flickered eerily in the rain, casting distorted shadows that danced across the wet pavement. Each step they took toward the entrance felt like a journey into the unknown, the darkness of the night swallowing them whole.
(Y/N)'s pulse quickened with every creak of the pizzeria's structure, every distant echo that seemed to reverberate through the storm. She was lucky the hoodie Mike gave her was keeping her covered from the rain, but it didn't help the feeling of getting drenched on.
As they reached the door, she hesitated, her hand trembling as she reached for the handle. Mike stood by her side, his presence a steady anchor in the midst of the storm. With a deep breath, she pushed the door open, the squeal of hinges slicing through the rainy night.
Despite the fear that gripped her, she squared her shoulders, her resolve hardening. She glanced at Mike, finding strength in his unwavering gaze, "Hopefully this will help me while I clean tonight." She murmured holding up the walkman, walking into the building away from the rain beside him closely, "I can ignore everything around me."
He chuckled lowly shaking his wet hair out, looking over at all the lanterns they placed around for her on the tables, "Be careful, though." He stated gently pushing back the hoodie off her head, touch lingering staring into her doe eyes, "Are you sure you don't want to stay with me, love?"
She shakes her head shyly stepping back away from him more into the main lobby, "S'fine. I'll be alright." She lied through her teeth to him, but still sent a reassuring smile placing the walkman's headphones over her head, "Besides if anything happens, I'll scream and you'll hear me."
He deadpanned a bit nervously at how casual she was being inside the place that scared her, but he also knew it was just a facade to assure him, "I will. I'll always come for you when you need me." He promised strongly catching her by surprise, "I'll see you later than."
She was now alone in the eerily quiet area out front where the eating area was, watching Mike's figure disappear behind one of the corners into the camera room. The storm continued to past by outside, which made matters worse for her.
"Okay, I regret this decision." She whispered to herself out loud glancing around at all the objects around her, slipping the headphones onto her ears as she walked more into the room where the small amount of light was.
Pressing the play button on the walk-man, one of her favourite songs that Issac put on there for her was playing, which was TALKING IN YOUR SLEEP now invading her ears lowly. Something to keep her calm and relaxed in the tense atmosphere.
Her wet eyelashes clang onto her cheeks from the rain still over her, scanning her eyes over the cupboard that was placed next to the tuck-shop where people would order, or collect their food.
"Man, I really want that guitar." She whined with a pout staring at the poster on top of it that had the same bunny inside it, opening the cabinet up and grabbed the old, badly shaped broom into her hands.
Alone in the main area, she moved methodically, the broom in her hand sweeping away the dust and debris. Lanterns cast flickering shadows, creating an eerie dance of light and darkness that played tricks on her senses.
Every crash of thunder made her gulp thickly, a reminder of the power of the storm. The lightning slashed through the sky, illuminating the pizzeria in brief, ghostly glows, casting silhouettes of the animatronics against the walls.
Despite the music in her ears, (Y/N) couldn't shake the feeling of being watched. The animatronics, frozen in their unsettling poses, seemed to come alive in the shifting shadows, their gleaming eyes following her every move. It was a sensation akin to the first night, a primal fear that gripped her heart and refused to let go.
Her body, weary from standing for hours nor getting enough sleep, screamed for rest. Fatigue pulled at her limbs, making every movement sluggish, as she hummed a bit to the music playing through her ears.
She paused for a moment, leaning on the broom as her eyes closed, trying to fight the encroaching darkness. The rain outside matched the turmoil in her mind, a tempest of fear and weariness.
Regret gnawed at her, wishing she hadn't let Mike go too far from her sight. His presence was her anchor, a shield and protector against the forces she felt lurking in the shadows.
"Maybe I should of drank coffee beforehand." She murmured to herself stifling a yawn into her jumpers sleeve, eyelids feeling heavy, the desire to rest overwhelming her senses, and placed the broom aside for now.
As she sank onto a tables chair, fatigue pulled her under like a merciless tide. Unbeknownst to her, in the dark recesses of the pizzeria, a metal hand extended, fingers twitching with anticipation.
In that moment, (Y/N) succumbed to the weariness, her eyes slipping closed. The headphones slipped off her head, music fading into silence. As she drifted into sleep, the world around her blurred, and her consciousness slipped away.
Very unaware of the red eyes watching her from around the corner in the darkness. Waiting for the right moment to act, and steal her away from the one person holding them back.
In the realm of dreams, her mind unfurled like a fragile blossom. Confusion knit her brows together, as she found herself in a dreamscape that wasn't her own.
Around her birds chirp in the breeze blowing through the forest trees, a familiar campsite in front that reminded her of the place Mike told her about, the day he had lost Garrett to the unknown kidnapper.
She could hear every breath that she exhaled out of her mouth, aware of every noise that seemed to echo in the dream land that she's never had the chance to experience, nor wanted to before.
A twig snaps behind her suddenly catching her off guard, and spins around fast to spot five kids surrounding her, in all different clothing staring intently at her figure in the middle of the area.
"Why is there literally other children here right now-" She nervously ranted to herself, going pale in the face feeling the same bad sensation traveling up her spin when the main kid in front with blonde hair tilts his head at her.
They all stay silent like they were waiting for something, the blonde one in front who seemed to be the leader kept his blue eyes on her, and was analyzing her from head to toe, until he meets her wide eyes again.
Gulping the lump in her throat she placed her shaking hands up to her chest, and took a small step forward to the five, "H-hey, what is this?" She questioned in a stutter, cursing herself for sounding scared in front of harmless kids, "Why am I in Mikes dream-"
All the kids gazes shifted slowly to the one in front, who's lips lifted up into a eerie soft smile still looking at (Y/N). Until they went to split aways into different directions running, causing her to gasp panicked not knowing what to do, and began to chase after the one with blonde hair.
He turned his head briefly while running away through the pathway down the campsite, motioning his head at her to follow, before sprinting off going to disappear into the bushes.
"No! Wait-" She yelled out not seeing where any of them went now, still trying to chase after the kid in the direction he went into, and didn't see the tree stump below her feet until it was too late.
A yelped left her lips when she was sent tripping forward right into the ground off balance, and face planted roughly. This seemed to snap her out of the dream, eyes flying open back into the real world and ended up slamming her nose into the table under her roughly also from the force of the fall in the dream.
She groans in pain holding onto her now mostly likely damaged nose, not even realising the same eyes in the dream watching in the shadows behind her closely, itching to reach out once more seeing her distracted.
Stumbling up off the chair under the table she was thankful the walk-man was now off, and around her waist, as she cradled her sore nose. She tried to adjust to the darkness only lit up by the few lanterns, and the now glitching light near the front entrance.
They start to flicker rapidly out of control for some reason, sending another horrible shiver down her spine worried for Mike hearing the static coming from down the hallway. She makes her way into the middle of the quiet lobby, until a familiar song starts to play loudly from the speakers on the walls, breaking the silence inside.
Not even paying attention to how it was her favourite song playing, she quickly covered her ears to block out the piercing sound, lifting up her hands to press against them, and went into a bit of a feeble position on the floor.
The music was soon cut off which followed by the power shutting off also, leaving the entire building in darkness expect for the lanterns on the tables that didn't do much either. She breathes a sight of relief when the power was switched back on, knowing Mike was the one responsibly for it.
Standing back up from her position, no longer feeling the pain coming from her nose, she jumps a bit when there was a buzzer beeping at the closed front door, and grew nervous not knowing what to do.
(Y/N) gulps to ease her dry throat lopping the headphones around the walk-man attached to her hip, she talks a few steeps forward to the corner near the front door, and heard incoming footsteps.
On high alert from before she span around quickly getting ready to kick however was there, but relaxed greatly realising it was Mike's figure walking up to her with a deeply worried expression.
Before he could even get a word out about what happened, she faced the front door with a wary finger pointed at it, "Someone's out there right now." She whispered to Mike, who grabbed her hand tightly to tug her along with him.
"Yes, I know. It's a police officer." He tells her in a knowing tone just as low, making the girls face pale hearing who was buzzing the bell to be let in, and sulked to herself realising they were about to get into trouble.
They make their way up to the front door, Mike opening it up with his spare hand that wasn't still being gripped by hers, and was instantly met with a smile from the blonde officer, "About time. Starting to think maybe you two fell asleep on the job." She states gazing over their figures.
(Y/N) slipped her hand out of his leaning her side against the glass door, "Um, can, we, uh help you, officer?" She questioned a bit confused, and tilted her head to the side smelling the fresh scent of rain outside.
"Please, my name's Vanessa." The officer assured with a laid back smiled at her, wearing a police rain coat over her uniform to shield from the rain, "And you two are bleeding, by the way."
This made them pause momentarily wondering what she meant. The Diaz girl now felt something warm trickling down from her nostrils, and lifted up a finger to touch it, seeing that there was indeed blood there, "Oh, man." She muttered in shock, not thinking her head hit the table that hard.
"Looks nasty." Vanessa commented eyeing off Mike's arm wound, and the girls bleeding nose, "Come on. I know where they keep the first aid kit." She walks past the two of them, and into the building to leave the duo alone for a second.
Mike's sharp eyes caught a glint of red on (Y/N)'s face now. He turned his body to her to reach out, his fingers gently cradling her jaw to assess the damage. His touch was gentle, a mixture of concern and care etched on his face, "(N/N), your nose..." He began, his voice laced with deep worry.
She attempted a reassuring smile, her attempt at casualness marred by the trickle of blood staining her upper lip, "It's nothing, just a nosebleed," she replied strained but defiant. She tried to wipe it away with the back of her hand, but Mike caught her wrist softly, his eyes not leaving hers.
"You're not fine," He murmured in a rasp, tone soft but firm, as his saddened eyes stared into hers guilty, fingers brushing along her wrist, "You're bleeding. I should've never left you alone in here."
Despite his concern, she shook her head, avoiding his gaze, "It's just stress," She muttered barely audible over the rain, "I'll be okay."
Mike sighed, his fingers moving gently to wipe away the blood with his thumb of his uninjured hand. He pulled up his jackets material, using it to clean her nose and skin with utmost care, his touch being tender.
As he wiped away the last traces of blood, his eyes met hers, a depth of emotion swirling in them, "I can't bear to see you hurt, sweetheart." He whispered shakily, voice barely audible also, and breathed out, "I'm sorry that you got injured because I wasn't by your side to protect you."
His words hung in the air, as her eyes softened, and she reached out, her fingers entwining with his uninjured one, and gave a firm squeeze as the door closed to block out the sound of the heavy rain outside.
"S'alright, Mikey. Don't worry about it." She whispered back with a soft grin that had his heart flipping, and motioned to his bleeding arm worriedly, "But we need to patch yours up first though."
🎈💭
Vanessa gazes at the massive poster of Nebraska that the two had gotten down from the ceiling in Mike's wall, now placed on the wall inside the cameras room, and the fake candles lit up around the desk area as well.
"Love what you two have done with the place." She comments chuckling, tilting her head to the side and turned back to the duo sitting down behind her quietly, "Why Nebraska?"
(Y/N) ignored the officers voice instead focusing on wrapping a bandage around Mike's arm, trying her hardest not to break feeling his gaze solemnly on her figure busy with fixing up his bleeding arm.
"Oh, you need a hand?" Vanessa questions making her way over to the two of them, watching as the other girl struggles with the material but was still doing it right.
Rolling her (E/C) eyes she just grumbled not answering again, causing Mike's lips to perk up watching her fondly and responded on his beloves behalf, "Nah, she's fine." He said moving his eyes up briefly to the officer, "She's been dealing with injuries all her life, so don't worry."
Yeah cause you and Izzy are idiots, she thought to herself annoyed hearing his words, tongue poking out a bit from the corner of her mouth in concentration, and lopped the white material around his arm many times.
Vanessa smile at the duo knowingly as she took a seat in the chair across the table, and folded her arms over her chest. Mike goes to talk once more without looking away from his best friend, "You seem to really know your way around the place."
"Well, Freddy's is on my beat." She answered leaning her face in her palm, elbow being rested against the table and packed away some of the first aid supplies, "I like to stay well-informed. Also, I really loved this place as a kid."
(Y/N) hummed in acknowledgment rubbing her fingers across Mike's patched up forearm, taking a piece of clear tape to place it onto the ends, "All done, Mike." She chirped looking up to his soft features on her, and saw him smiling a bit in thanks that had her stomach flipping with butterflies.
"Vanessa Shelly." The said girl introducing herself breaks up their moment, gaining sharp looks from the duo in return who both shake her outstretch hands, and tell her their names also, "Pleasure to meet you, (Y/N), Mike."
The cloth that was used to clean up the rest of the Diaz's girls bleeding nose was on the table also, and Vanessa picks up the fist aid box, walking around them to place it back into the cabinet, "You two doing alright this evening?"
Her back was facing the two who shifted their gazes onto her weirdly, and feeling the confused stares she span around to continue on pestering, "Are you guys good? Is everything copacetic?"
Mike narrowed his eyes down on her sceptically, placing his uninjured warm hand onto (Y/N)'s bouncing thigh under the table to reassure her, "Yeah, we know what 'all right' means."
"Do you two also know that your eyes are bloodshot, and your heart rates are through the roof?" Vanessa pointed out a bit rudely, making the Diaz girl scowl at her uncomfortable, "And aside from your blood nose," She motioned to the other girl, and than Mike beside her, "And that gash on your arm, which let's be honest is frickin' bizarre. You've both been acting suspicious since the moment you opened the door."
(Y/N) shifted in her chair to lean up more meeting the officers judgemental stare half way, and felt Mike's hand squeeze her thigh more, "Yeah, well, it's been a weird night." Her tone was short, and blunt in answer.
Vanessa nodded her head turning to look at the switched on security camera screens, "Sounds like Freddy's." She mumbled before turning back to look at the duo, "This place, it gets to people. It's one of the reasons why you two are gonna quit."
"I'm sorry?" Mike voiced incredulously raising his eyebrows at her, sharing a brief look with his best friend who was just as confused and weirder out.
"Oh, yeah. You security hires, you never last." She remarked bluntly finding it amusing, before an idea pops into her head suddenly smiling eagerly, "Have you met them yet?"
(Y/N) and Mike share a small glance between one another again wondering what she was on about, before the girl turns back to open her mouth asking, "Met who?"
Vanessa motions for them to follow her out of the cameras room into the main area, as she flips the power switches on the wall to turn on everything, including the gaming section also that was heard starting up.
"You two don't know about the kids going missing, do you?" She causally questioned walking up to the SHOW TIME button on the wall, gaining horrified looks from the two trailing behind her hand and hand.
However before the best friends could even splutter out something in response, Vanessa pressed the button which instantly turned the room into a music, disco party. The red curtains were pulled back, and soon after revealed the four animatronics, now moving around and singing right before them on the stage.
