CHAPTER FIVE:
PEACE OF MIND

THE WALK DID INDEED CLEAR her head. She wasn't sure what it wasn't that had clamed her anxieties down. She liked to believe that it was the beautiful noise of the Brooklyn night, or the stars that dotted in the sky that made her look past them and wish she was at home. Well, that wasn't true. She was actually glad to be downstairs for once. The human race was very interesting to her, and she never realized how fun it was to watch them be idiots until she had witnessed it herself. Celeste, however knew that the human population wasn't what was calming her down. In fact, it was the one man she had been anxious about that had helped her. They hadn't said a word to one another, but that's what made it better.

There was a silence that hung over them. The most comfortable silence that Celeste had ever experienced in her life. A sensation of warmth continued to pulse through her the longer that the duo walked in silence, allowing them bot to trail off on their own separate thoughts, but not too far where the anxiety would kick back in again. Celeste could already tell the bad that would come from this. She was already so interested in this man and she had only known him for a few hours. But they were the best hours of her thousands of years of life.

"As much as I hate to leave you, it is getting rather late. I do not want Peggy to get worried about me." Celeste broke the comfortable silence, and Bucky turned his head to look at her before he nodded his head.

"You don't mind if I walk you back, do you?" Bucky asked the girl before she could walk away from him. Celeste stopped, turning to face him. She cocked her head slightly, a gentle smile pulling up at the corners of her lips.

"Scared for my safety, Barnes?" Her smile seemed to widen when a small smile fell on the man's own face. He rubbed the back of his neck and she chuckled lightly. She knew that he had never been this nervous around a woman in his life, and he didn't know how to act. But Celeste loved his bashfulness and the bold side of him. She found it absolutely adorable.

"Maybe." Bucky tried to shrug it off and her smile grew even wider before Celeste shook her head.

"I know how to take care of myself."

"And there is absolutely no doubt about that." Bucky was quick to assure her. "But, I think it might give me a little peace of mind if I made sure you got home alright."

"Peace of mind is my main priority." Celeste joked, before holding out her hand. Bucky looked at the blonde before reaching out and grabbing it, interlacing their fingers as they continued to walk down the streets.

"A friend of mine would really like you." Bucky commented, making Celeste hum in question. "Her name is Evelyn Rogers. Her brother is my best friend, Steve Rogers. He's always getting beat up 'cause he thinks he's all that. But, Evelyn likes people with attitude, and she needs a friend."

"Well, aren't you her friend?" Celeste questioned. "Or, are you more than that?" Bucky immediately went into a fit of laughter, quick to shake his head at the words that had fallen from the angels mouth. She didn't quite understand what was so funny, making a small frown fall onto her face as she cocked her head to the side. "I don't understand. Did I say something funny?"

"Amusing, rather." Bucky told her, an amused smile still playing on her lips. "Eve is like a little sister to me. I love her as one. And even if that wasn't the case, between you and me, I don't think she likes my gender like that anyways."

"So. . . she likes females?" Celeste clarified.

"Yeah. Of course, she completely denies this factor and won't accept it. I think she thinks she'll be judged, which she will be, but I wish she knew that Steve and I will always have her back. And that neither of us would see her differently no matter who she liked." Bucky sighed, shaking his head. "She's just scared. Her mother is currently in the hospital with tuberculosis. They have already lost their father, so their mother is all they have left besides each other."

"They have you too." Celeste pointed towards him, nudging him slightly. "And I hope to meet them, so that they can have me there too."

"I have to be clichรฉ again." Bucky told the girl, making Celeste raise an eyebrow at him. "There is something about you Celeste that is so incredibly amazing. I haven't met any other dame like you, and trust me when I say I've met a lot of dame's."

"Well, a guy with your looks, I'm not surprised you get around." Celeste stopped before nodding her head towards the house. "This is my stop." Celeste turned to look at him, not noticing the movement of the curtains as Peggy carefully peeked through and smirked as she looked at the angel. "I had a lot of fun today, Bucky."

"Yeah, I did too."

"Well, you know where I live." Celeste told him. "So, if you ever want to stop by for a surprise visit, you're always welcome. And if you move on and never talk to me again, then that works too." Which wasn't true. That wouldn't work and she was silently hoping that he would visit her consistently so that she could keep her job.

"You're one of a kind, angel. There's no moving on from someone like you." She almost tensed at the nickname, but refrained from doing so. Instead she tried to hide the blush that started on her cheeks and smiled as she nodded her head.

"I hope to see you soon." Celeste smiled.

"Trust me, you will." Bucky assured her. She smiled at him again before standing on her tippy toes and placing a kiss to his cheek. She pulled away and offered him one last smile before turning on her heel and entering the home.

"I see you've found your man?" Peggy's voice filled her ears and the blonde almost fell in surprise making the woman laugh.

"Goodnight, Peggy." Celeste simply answered.

"We're talking about this in the morning!" Peggy called, watching as Celeste just shook her head and entered the guest bedroom, closing the door and then laying down and going to sleep with a smile covering her lips.
