i. meet ups and café

IN THE BUSTLING STREETS OF MUMBAI , Abhishek Sharma was strolling through the streets. The scents of street food filled his nose and the sounds of honking horns filled the air around him. As Abhishek strolled through the bustling streets of Mumbai, his phone pressed to his ear, he couldn't help but feel the familiar buzz of excitement that always seemed to envelop the city.

"Hey guys, what's up?" Abhishek asked his friends enthusiastically. He walked around the rickshaws with practiced ease.

"Hey Abhay! Nothing much man, just chilling," Shubman said, his voice filled with the laid-back vibe typical of the Gujarat Titans' batsman.

Ishan's voice chimed in next, filled with characteristic mischief. "Ah, the man of the hour graces us with his presence! How's life treating you, Abhay?"

"Ha! Life is normal now. Sunrisers Hyderabad is qualified for the playoffs!" Abhishek said excitedly. Some girls around him whispered and looked at him in awe. He was the ray of sunshine on Sunrisers Hyderabad. Yuvi Paaji also said that to him .He was one of the most handsome cricketers, after Shubman.

"Lucky, our match against Kolkata got rained out, now the Titans are eliminated," Shubman said sadly. It was Shubman's first year captaining GT, he didn't do bad, but some matches they sadly lost.

"Yeah, same for Mumbai," Ishan said, a ting of sorrow in his voice, "But hey, good job on qualifying for the playoffs, and you are doing well this season,".

"Thanks Ishu," Abhishek said a smile gracing his lips, "Shubman, you're lucky that you were selected for the T20 World Cup. I tried my best but...". It was Abhishek's dream to play for the National Team , and play with his idol, Virat Kohli.

"Hey look, it's fine. You will be selected next time man," Shubman said in a convincing tone, "Plus, look how well you are doing this IPL season! Man,".

Abhishek chuckled, "Thanks man,". "No problem buddy, you're like my best friend" Shubman replied with a smile.

Laughter echoed through the phone as the trio continued to chat, their camaraderie as strong as ever despite the miles that separated them. In the bustling chaos of Mumbai, amidst the heat and the noise, Abhishek found solace in the familiar voices of his friends. And as they swapped stories and shared laughter, he couldn't help but feel grateful for the bonds that connected them, both on and off the cricket field.

Abhishek spotted Ishan. Clad in denim jeans and a denim jacket, he was scrolling on his phone. Abhishek quicken his pace to join his friend. Ishan looked up and flashed a grin and tucked his phone into his pocket.

"Yo wassup bitch!" Ishan said with made Abhishek laugh "Whats up man," . Ishan was one of Abhishek's friends he made during the U19s.

Ishan shrugged nonchalantly. "Oh, you know, just taking a breather. Checking in on some messages and stuff."

"Ah nice, no matches for me so I'm just taking a walk," Abhishek replied with a laugh. His laugh made everyone light up around him.

"I'm fucking starving man," Ishan said with a groan. "Hey! Be kid friendly," Abhishek chuckled. "Grow up man," Ishan laughed as the patted Abhishek's back. They both walked to a nearby café, the smell of chai coming from inside.

"Heard this place makes good chai and cappuccinos," Abhishek said with a grin.

"K, let's go," Ishan said as he pulled the door. The café had a nice aesthetic to it.

Abhishek and Ishan entered the cozy café, the aroma of freshly brewed coffee wafting through the air, only to be greeted by the sight of Shubman seated at a table in the corner, engrossed in his phone. They exchanged surprised glances before making their way over to join him.

"Shubman! What are you doing here?" Abhishek exclaimed, a hint of amusement in his voice.

Shubman looked up from his phone, a sheepish grin spreading across his face as he greeted them. "Hey, guys! Fancy running into you here. Just taking a break from team meetings and scouting reports, you know how it is."

Ishan chuckled, sliding into a seat opposite Shubman. "Well, well, look who's joined the party. Didn't expect to see you here, Skipper."

Shubman shrugged, tucking his phone away. "Yeah, just needed a change of scenery. Plus, I heard they make a mean cappuccino here."

Abhishek raised an eyebrow teasingly. "So, scouting reports and cappuccinos, huh? Sounds like a winning combination."

Shubman chuckled, a twinkle of mischief in his eyes. "You know it. But enough about me, what brings you two here? Besides the pleasure of my company, of course."

Ishan grinned, leaning back in his chair. "Just out for a stroll and decided to grab a bite to eat. What's your excuse, Skipper? Planning something for a girl?"

Shubman laughed, shaking his head. "Nah, just taking a breather. And maybe indulging in a little daydreaming about lifting that trophy. Can't blame a guy for dreaming, right?"

Abhishek smiled, feeling a surge of pride for his friend. "Absolutely not, Shubman. We'll all be right there cheering you on when it happens. Or if it happens next year."

As the trio engaged in lively conversation, the café door swung open, drawing Abhishek's attention like a magnet. His gaze locked onto the figure that entered—a girl whose beauty seemed to radiate from every pore. Time seemed to slow as he took her in , completely captivated by her presence.

"Abhishek? Earth to Abhishek!" Shubman's voice cut through the haze of Abhishek's thoughts, bringing him back to reality with a start.

"Huh? Oh, sorry, what were you saying?" Abhishek stammered, tearing his eyes away from the girl to focus on his friends.

Shubman chuckled, shaking his head in amusement. "I was just saying that we should plan a team outing soon. You know, to bond and all that."

Ishan turned around in his seat, following Abhishek's gaze to the girl who had captured his attention. A knowing grin spread across his face as he nudged Abhishek teasingly. "Ah, I see what's got you so distracted, Abhay. Looks like someone's caught your eye."

Abhishek felt his cheeks flush with embarrassment, but he couldn't tear his gaze away from the girl, who was now ordering a coffee at the counter. "Uh, yeah, she's... she's really beautiful."

Shubman and Ishan exchanged amused glances before turning their attention back to Abhishek with knowing smiles. "Well, why don't you go talk to her, man?" Shubman suggested, nudging Abhishek encouragingly.

Abhishek's heart raced at the idea, but he hesitated, suddenly feeling self-conscious. "I don't know, guys. What if she's not interested?"

Ishan rolled his eyes playfully. "Come on, Abhay, you'll never know unless you try. Besides, what's the worst that could happen?"

With a deep breath, Abhishek mustered up his courage and pushed himself out of his chair, determined to seize the moment. As he made his way over to the girl, his friends watched with grins of anticipation, silently cheering him on. Whether it was the beginning of a love story or just a brief encounter, one thing was for certain—Abhishek was ready to take a chance and see where fate would lead him.

Abhishek's feet froze in place as he hesitated, uncertainty gnawing at him. A million thoughts raced through his mind—what if he made a fool of himself? What if she rejected him? What if...?

Sensing his friend's hesitation, Ishan reached out and gave Abhishek's shoulder a reassuring squeeze. "Hey, it's okay, Abhay. Take your time. There's no rush."

Shubman nodded in agreement, his expression supportive. "Yeah, man. Do whatever feels right for you. We've got your back either way."

Taking a deep breath, Abhishek modestly gratefully, the weight of his friends' encouragement bolstering his resolve. "Thanks, guys. I just... I need a moment to gather my thoughts."

With a final glance at the girl who had captivated him, Abhishek turned back towards his friends, a determined gleam in his eyes. "Let's finish our coffee and then maybe we can head out for a walk. I could use some fresh air."

His friends nodded in agreement, sensing his need for a moment to regroup. As they settled back into their seats and resumed their conversation, Abhishek couldn't shake the feeling of longing that tugged at his heartstrings. Perhaps he hadn't made a move this time, but deep down, he knew that the girl he had glimpsed in the café had left an indelible mark on his soul—a reminder that sometimes, the most meaningful moments in life are born from the courage to take a chance. And as he savored the warmth of his friendship and the promise of new beginnings, Abhishek couldn't help but feel hopeful for what the future might hold.

As Ishika waited for her coffee at the counter, she glanced around the café idly, her gaze landed on a guy seated at another table. He waved a small greeting, and Ishika waved back reflexively, a polite smile playing on her lips.

But as she turned away, her cheeks suddenly felt aflame, a rush of warmth flooding her cheeks. She couldn't shake the feeling that she had seen him somewhere before, though she couldn't quite place where.

"Here's your coffee, miss," the barista said, handing her the steaming cup with a friendly smile.

"Th-thank you," Ishika stammered, her voice betraying her nerves as she took the coffee, her mind still preoccupied with the guy who had waved at her.

Taking a deep breath to steady herself, Ishika turned back towards her table, only to find that her legs felt like jelly, her heart pounding in her chest. She had never felt so flustered before, and she couldn't understand why this stranger had such a profound effect on her.

As she sank into her seat, her mind raced with a million questions—Who was he? Why did he make her feel this way? And most importantly, would she ever have the courage to find out?

Lost in her thoughts, Ishika hardly noticed the curious glances from her friends as they watched her with amusement and affection. Little did she know, this chance encounter would be the beginning of an unexpected journey—one that would lead her to discover new depths of courage, vulnerability, and, perhaps, love.

—————————————————————————

Ishika stepped out of the café, her cheeks still flushed with embarrassment from her encounter with the mysterious guy. She quickly hailed a taxi, eager to retreat to the comfort of her home and escape the whirlwind of emotions swirling within her.

"Hello miss," the driver said "Where to go?". "Omkar 1973 please," Ishika replied with a smile.

As she settled into the backseat of the taxi, her mind couldn't help but replay the brief interaction over and over again. She hadn't even caught his name, yet his presence had left an undeniable impact on her.

Lost in her thoughts, Ishika's phone buzzed with an incoming call. It was Virat, her eldest brother and the ever-watchful guardian of her heart.

"Ishi? Where are you?" Virat asked, his voice filled with concern.

"Uh.... nothing much bhaiya," Ishika stuttered, she was filled with nervousness. Virat chuckled, "Ishi, tell me. I'm here for you,".

"Bhaiya, I'm telling the truth. Just went out to get coffee," Ishika said seriously this time. Virat laughed, "Ok ok Ishi," then his voice went serious "but you have to stay safe, got it?".

"Yes bhaiya," Ishika sighed as she cut the call. Why couldn't he just let go of her? Ishika was an adult overall, and she could handle things by herself now!

Ishika reached Virat and Anushka's apartment. She'd be staying over for now. She knocked the door.

Thump thump

Ishika stood outside the door of their apartment, her heart still racing from the encounter at the café. She took a deep breath, steeling herself for the inevitable questions that would come from Anushka, her sister-in-law and confidante.

As the door swung open, revealing Anushka's warm smile, Ishika couldn't help but feel a rush of relief wash over her. Anushka's presence always had a calming effect on her, grounding her in moments of uncertainty.

"Hey, Ishika! Welcome back. How was your day?" Anushka greeted her, her eyes sparkling with curiosity.

Ishika offered a tentative smile, trying to mask the tumult of emotions churning within her. "Hey, Anushka. It was... eventful, to say the least."

Anushka's brow furrowed with concern as she ushered Ishika inside, closing the door behind them. "Eventful? What happened? Is everything okay?"

Ishika hesitated, unsure of where to begin. How could she possibly explain the whirlwind of emotions that had consumed her since that chance encounter at the café?

"It's... complicated," Ishika admitted, her voice barely above a whisper. "I... I met someone at the café today."

Anushka's eyes widened with interest, her curiosity piqued. "Really? Who? Do I know them?"

Ishika shook her head, a blush creeping onto her cheeks. "No, I don't think so. It was... unexpected."

Anushka's expression softened with understanding as she placed a comforting hand on Ishika's shoulder. "Well, whatever happened, just know that I'm here for you, okay? You can tell me anything."

Ishika nodded gratefully, feeling a wave of gratitude wash over her for her sister-in-law's unwavering support. "Thanks, Anushka. That means a lot."

As they settled onto the couch, Ishika couldn't help but feel a sense of comfort wash over her in Anushka's presence. And as she recounted the events of the day, she knew that no matter what the future held, she would always have her family by her side—ready to support her, no matter what.
