PERSONALITY
Nikolai is your stereotype fae. Nikolai is extremely cunning and ruthless. He was raised this way, the fae mind set being drilled into his mind since he was a little boy. He doesn't see anything wrong with it. He likes his revenge bloody and his games bloodier. Humans are nothing but servants to him, servants or toys when he becomes bored. They could never be as powerful as the fae are and he doesn't understand why some seem to pity them. It's natural that those weaker are treated worse than those stronger. Only the strong survive, the weak die or, if they happen to be lucky, serve the strong. It just happens to be that humans are weak compared to fae, so they are forced to serve. It's the only natural way. He is arrogant in a way that he will never fear a human, not when they have a knife against his throat, not when they appear to have a whole army against him. He won't fear them, simply because he can't believe humans are a threat. He doesn't believe they can be as ruthless and cunning as fae, softness and care is in their nature, not murder. Why would you fear something so weak, so soft? He can never understand why so many fae fear their human counterparts, maybe it makes him weak, maybe it makes easy to manipulate. Either way, he won't change his mind. It's not like any of them will ever lay a hand on him.

Nikolai isn't a sadist, it's not like enjoys the pain of others. He just doesn't care about it either. He's pretty indifferent to most people and their suffering. If it isn't his problem, he won't get involved, that's his mindset and he likes to keep it that way. When he sees high fae torture a human, or even another lower fae, he won't step in but he won't join them either. He will simply ignore them, doing nothing but glancing at their direction if they get a little too loud. It isn't his business, so he won't get involved. This might give the impression that he's a cold and calm man. That is not true at all. Nikolai is pretty loud. He's a talker, someone who enjoys social settings, someone who enjoys being in the centre of the attention. Parties, big or small, are where he feels the most comfortable. Mind games are a big part of those parties, but he knows how to avoid them. He isn't important enough to manipulate but too important to be an easy victim. It's the perfect middle, and that what he enjoys. That he enjoys the parties does not mean he's a very beloved fae. Nikolai usually gets on people's nerves with his snarky comments and rude jabs, he doesn't even try to hide it. Some might think it is his way of joking, maybe it is, maybe it isn't. Not even he is sure of that. He has a way of words and the incredibly talent to piss people of. A talent he uses a little too often. He often waves those accusations away, either pretending to be drunk or claiming it was just a joke. And most leave him alone after that, not wanting to give him more of their time and energy.

Nikolai is lazy and irresponsible. He can do what he want as the second son of a respected general. No one would dare to stand in his way, afraid of his father. This made him lazy, spoiled and a class a asshole. Nikolai hasn't worked a day in his life, everything has been handed to him from the very start. He could do whatever he wanted, as long he didn't stand in the way of anyone truly powerful, like the high lord or his high general. This caused him to be spoiled, needy and very cruel when he didn't get what he wanted. He is used to get what he wants, and may the gods help whoever denies him. Love is something he doesn't truly believe in. Or at least not for him. He believes himself to be unable to love. Wrong of course, but try to get that in the mind of a stubborn, arrogant fae noble. That will be a though job. Love is a fairytale. The only thing that matters is power, and he has that already. Why would he bother with love, if he has power. List, well that is a whole other case. He does believe in lust, that is something he understands, and enjoys. His laziness is as much as a sin as it is a virtue. He will do what the other fae do, kill whoever stands in his way, but he doesn't do it for him. He won't cause any unnecessary deaths, it's not worth the energy, and he doesn't feel like cleaning up the mess. This makes him one of the more trustworthy fae, especially for humans. Though many forget that the moment he opens his arrogant mouth.

Nikolai can be trusted as long as the situation at hand benefits his own agenda. If your goal meets his he won't betray you. He isn't a fan of mind games, they are too tiring and honestly a bit boring to him. He prefers some straight up violence. That being said, he will betray you if better opportunity comes along. He is somewhat trustworthy, but his word means only so much. That he doesn't enjoy mind games doesn't mean that he doesn't know how to play them. He knows how to twists his words as much as any other fae, he just prefers not to. That being said, he truly prefers plain violence over mind games. Which might have something to do with his....issues. Nikolai might seem like a lazy arrogant asshole, which he is, but there is something deeper. He struggles with an anger greater than anything he had ever felt before. It's his curse and he can't seem to control it. This anger, he can't let it take control of him. Bad, horrible things will happen if he does. So he hides it, puts is away behind a wall of indifference. All to protect himself.

BACKGROUND
Nikolai has never worked a single day in his life. And why would he? As the beloved second son of an esteemed general of the spring court. Nikolai's parents, lady Elizabeth and General Igor, were not mates. They had met at one of the many parties in the high society, both of them coming from an influential family. Lady Elizabeth's family were not only of noble heritage but had also a huge industrial empire. They were very active in the weapon industry, mining the steal needed for swords, axes and more. Igor's family was of lower prestige but the young Igor had worked himself up to admiral and was only rising in ranks, some even whispered that he might become high general, which never happened. The couple met and it immediately clicked, both of them had similar ambitions and the same mind set. There was only one problem in their amazing plan. Lady Elizabeth was already married. This marriage was arranged by her parents when she was only a young girl, and she had no say in it. Her husband was a lazy and useless man, according to her, he didn't share her vision at all. So Elizabeth and Igor came up with a plan. They would assassinate Elizabeth's husband, and Igor would pretend to be Elizabeth's greatest supporter. That way her parents would have no choice but to agree to their marriage.

Everything happened as they hoped. They slowly poisoned her husband, no one even suspected he had been murdered, instead they though he died from an illness that roamed the land. Igor pretend to help Elizabeth through her loss, and soon they were engaged. The pair married two years after their first meeting. They weren't mates, both knew it, and they didn't even love each other. Yet both of them were very satisfied with the marriage, they saw each other more as business partners than anything romantic. But the arrangement suited the both of them. They had 3 children together. Their first child was a daughter, who they immediately married off when she came of age. Their second child was a son, who they raised to take his fathers seat. Igor had become general at this point, and was very successful in the army. His first son was his heir and supposed to take his seat after him. Their third child was another boy, Nikolai. Fae rarely have more than two children, only high lord or ladies have more children to assure the legacy. Nikolai was born when both his parents didn't have any time or care for children anymore. He wasn't exactly planned. So instead of raising him, they gave him to the nannies and let him do whatever he wanted.

Nikolai didn't see either his parents in the first few years of his life. They started to pay attention to him when he was a little older, but even that attention was minimal. They came to his birthdays and allowed him to stay with them at the winter solstice, but that was it. They never hugged him, never held him or showed him any love. The only thing they gave him was money, and they gave him tons of it. Nikolai was raised by nannies and instructors, all of them were full bloods and they drilled his superiority over humans, and other lower fae, in his head. Nikolai discovered fairly early that he could do whatever the hell he wanted, no one would stop him. He could get into fights, set things on fire and even murder people, and no one batted an eye. First he did it to get attention from his parents. Later he understood that no matter what he did, they would never pay attention to him, but he still didn't stop. What started as a cry for attention turned into a way to spend his time, to keep the boredom away.

Nikolai has always been a difficult child, throwing tantrums whenever he didn't get what he wanted. He would get violent at those times, trying to hurt the nannies or instructors. One time he threw a dagger at his teachers head. He was 8. His parents assumed this was just a phase and would change soon. It didn't. He kept having these tantrums, even when he got older. The tantrums hadn't stopped when he reached the age of 75, which is the age fae official become adults. Still his parents didn't care. One night he got into a really bad argument with his mother. She called him useless and lazy. She blamed him for his failures, while he blamed her for her absence. Both of them got really angry, though it didn't seem like anything would get out of hand, not until his mother slapped him. Nikolai was a spoiled child, he had never been slapped, let alone across the face, and something snapped inside him. He doesn't remember what happened. He only knows that he woke up in his head, his hands bandaged, though he didn't remember injuring them, and his father sitting beside his bed. He had never seen his father sit beside his bed and was immediately confused. Igor calmly explained the situation to him. Elizabeth was dead. Murdered. By him. Igor had found him beside his mother's body, unconscious, with her heart still in his hand. Igor, till Nikolai's great surprise, wasn't mad. No, he was impressed, he never cared for his wife anyway. He didn't understand how his useless second son could kill his wife, who was magically very talented. Nikolai wanted to deny it, but the evidence was there. His father offered him a deal, he wouldn't tell anyone what happened, he would even clean up his sons mess, if Nikolai allowed him to do some research. He wanted to know exactly how strong he was

Nikolai was cursed as a boy. His fathers mate, who was an incredibly talented fae, cursed him as an act of revenge. Igor rejected the matingbond because he found his current marriage too be too profitable too let go. His mate couldn't handle it, she had only wanted one thing her entire life, a mate. Yet she couldn't hurt her own mate, so she cursed his son instead. This curse would only come up whenever he got upset, causing him to turn into a creature that killed whenever it pleased and could, ironically enough, only be stopped by its mate.
