❷. Paranormal?

The next day, you thought it might be better to play it safe and get to school early. You were actually... a little too early.
You were the first kid there. You even beat Ms. Bitters, and she gets paid to go there early.
"I guess I have this classroom all to myself." You told yourself outloud, a little louder than you usually speak.
Just then, an idea sparked. You smirked.
"If no one's here, then that means... I can run around the classroom!" You cheered.
You ran around, avoiding seats as much as possible. Unfortunately, you bumped into one and toppled over.
You almost screeched in pain, since you hit your knee so hard. However, before you could say anything, Ms. Bitters walked in.
"Oh, new girl. What are you doing here so early? Don't you have better things to do?" She growled.
You tried to get up and talk at the same time, but you doubled over and fell back on your butt, while stuttering.
"Sorry!" Was all you could say. You tried getting up again, this time quickly limping over to your seat.
"Did you get injured again? Oh boy. You're one clutz of a girl aren't you?" Ms. Bitters criticized. You were sure she didn't mean it, so you didn't take it personally.
"Yes ma'am..." you said, sighing.
Other kids began entering the classroom, along with your new best friend, Dib. You tried not to get too attached, but you had no one else to cling to.
Not that you had to cling to someone, but it's nice to have somebody to depend on when you're in a slump, right? A friend to care, that's all you asked for. And Dib fit that role perfectly in your eyes.
Well, you barely knew him... all he did was help you go to the nurse and shared a few kind words with you...! But you considered that to be enough.
You gently placed a hand on your face where your bandage was from yesterday as you fondly remembered your short conversation with him.
As you continued to stir in your own little world, Dib tried to grab your attention. For a while now, you've just been staring at him and he was getting worried.
"(Y/n), hey! You okay?" He waved a hand.
You shook your head to get out of your thoughts. You blushed a little in embarrassment. "O-oh, I'm sorry! I didn't realize I-I was staring at you!"
"Hey, it's fine. I do that too sometimes, it's really not a big deal." Dib reassured you. He seemed a bit concerned about it regardless.
"How's that wound of yours?" He asked, pointing to the bandage on your face.
You shrugged. "It doesn't hurt..." you replied softly.
"Ah, that's good news!" He said happily. You nodded in agreement.
A little later, the two of you decided to have lunch together. He mentioned his little sister, Gaz, would be sitting with you both. Of course, you just hoped she was as nice as Dib.
Dib dragged you along with him to an empty table, besides a girl sitting there playing a video game.
"Here, (y/n), this is my sister. Gaz, this is (y/n), my new friend from class." Dib introduced you.
"Hey. I'm Gaz. Don't talk to me and we'll get along fine." She spoke to you, not looking up from her game.
You weren't too surprised to find out she wasn't exactly too warm and welcoming, but at least she didn't bully you.
"U-uh, yeah! No problem..." you said, your voice drifting off. You wondered if what you said was the right thing or not, she seemed like the type of girl you would have to choose your words wisely with.
"Well, anyway!" Dib began, taking a seat and patting the spot next to him. You gladly took that seat.
"(Y/n), there's something I gotta ask you." He continued, grabbing your attention instantly.
"What is it?" You asked slowly.
"Well... do you like the paranormal at all?" He asked.
"Para...normal?" You repeated.
"Yeah! You know, vampires, zombies, big foot, aliens... conspiracy theories?" He tried to explain. You got the idea.
"Ah! That stuff!" You smiled.
He smiled back and nodded. He couldn't believe how adorable you were.
"What about it?" You asked him.
"Well, actually... There's this show I watch called Mysterious Mysteries. I was wondering if maybe you might want to come hang out later and watch it with me?" Dib asked with hope.
"Oh, definitely!!" You replied, excited. You were almost never invited to people's houses unless you were tagging along with someone. But this time you get to hang out with a friend!
"Wait- really? You're serious!? Cool! Alright, well, we can just walk home from school together and I'll take you to my house!" Dib said, just as excited as you were.
"Just as long as you don't bother me." Gaz grumbled.
You nodded. "Okay! Sounds good to me!"
And by the end of the day, that's exactly what you did. You made sure to text your parent, of course, before leaving. But you walked home with Dib.
"Are you sure your dad won't mind me staying over for a little while...?" You asked quietly.
"Trust me. Dad will be really glad to know Dib finally got a friend." Gaz replied unexpectedly.
"I-it's not like I've never had friends before!" Dib defended himself.
"I haven't." You butted in. They both looked at you.
"Wait, really?" Dib asked. "I'd assume a girl like you would have people begging to be your friend."
You blushed a little at the comment. "Thanks...! But... I'm not anything special, really. I'm just average at best. So, I guess, no one wanted a normal girl to be their friend."
"But you're not average at all-!" Dib started. We barely noticed we arrived at their house until suddenly Prof. Membrane popped out of the front door.
"Ah, children! And new girl child! Welcome, come on in." He announced as if everything was normal with you being there.
You all walked in, entering the livingroom.
"Alright (y/n), Mysterious Mysteries should be starting now! I'll go turn on the TV and get some snacks!" He said, running to the remote and flipping the show on. He then ran into the kitchen.
"What kind of snacks do you want?" He yelled from the kitchen. You figured you'd eat anything, you didn't want to be picky.
"Anything you have is fine!" You shouted back, your voice still quiet somehow.
"Sure thing!" Dib made some popcorn.
You turned your attention to the show as you took a seat on the couch.
The TV spoke. "Today, we will be exploring an investigation on the apparent UFOS spotted here in North Carolina."
You blinked. "Aliens?" For some reason, you thought back to that weird robot dog you saw the night you moved here.
You suddenly had the urge to tell Dib.
"Hey, (y/n)! I got popcorn-" Dib said, walking into the room with a bowl. You looked at him.
"Dib, I just remembered something!" You announced.
"You did? What is it?" He asked.
"A couple nights ago, I saw a robot dog! He talked to me, he told me his master was going to destroy eeeeeverything, something like that." You tried to impersonate Gir to the best of your ability.
"What?! That's insane! Not that you're insane of course, but wow! Where did that happen?" Dib asked you.
"A couple blocks down from my new house, you don't live too far from there either." You said, now thinking about it.
"We definitely need to check that out." Dib said, grabbing your arm.
"N-now?" You asked, a little disappointed. You wanted to at least watch the show with him.
"Yeah! I gotta see this!" Dib said excitedly.
You couldn't stop him. At this point, you just wanted to spend time with him whether it be watching a mystery or catching one.
