i figured that i could end the chapter like that as it was already getting long and i didn't want to overwhelm myself. so as expected here is the part 2 of family time and secrets.

this may or may not be as long as the previous chapter of almost 5k words but lets see how that goes.

also this will probably be the only part chapter of the book, but idk. i like to see where my mind takes me for the book as that's why i haven't been exactly following the movie, but i want to sum it up for a couple chapts then get down into the movie for once.

third person's pov

cecily and cal have wondered what happened to elise as lily doesn't really talk about her. they don't want to sound rude about it so they aren't asking. unless one of the three guys mention it, then they'll ask.

"i wish mom was here," lily says as she has baby tears on her cheeks and eden wipes them away. even her sister misses her mother because elise was the perfect mother to the two girls, even if she wasn't exactly perfect. but to them she was just mom.

"right, she'd be so proud of us that we are almost done with school in a couple months.

flashback

(the girls were about ten years old, just try to go along with it please, two months before the mom died).

eight years before

lily and her sister eden are ten years old when their aunt melinda passed away. growing up for the two of them they were close but not that much. they pretty much saw their aunt melinda on holidays and or sometimes when they weren't in school. they somewhat tried to spend time with her as much as they could when they found out that she had cancer. not knowing when her time was coming they pretty much jammed evwrything into a week. like tons of waterparks as their aunt loved going to them and taking the two girls there too.

lily and cal were as per usual fighting as lily took cal's cookie that he got for a snack and he didn't like it. as in her defense his food tasted good, and he thought that he had gotten away from the girl by hiding in the pantry in the kitchen. but he was totally wrong on so many levels.

"elise lil took my cookie, again," cal said as lily pinched his arm and the mother just laughed a little at seeing the two as it was just like her and her sister melinda. god those two were thick as thieves when they were kids but when they grew up they went their separate ways of life.

"lily what did we say, about taking food that's not yours," elise says as cal stuck out his tongue at the girl as she pouted knowing that she got into trouble. again.

"what, it was calling my name, mommy," lily protests so she doesn't get into trouble and sent to a time out, with her grandma ruthie. grandma ruthie scared the poor girl as she's always strict even with eden and herself. because when she was growing up she had to raise her siblings after her mom and dad basically abandoned them when she was twelve. she isn't afraid to hit your butt with a switch, but she will be reasonable about it. so that has always been a good thing sometimes.

"did it now," elise says as jack was walking towards the mother and daughter, as lily had a scared look on her face as she eyed her grandma ruthie.

"elise don't scare the poor girl," jack says with a slight chuckle as perusal he had a cigar and a glass of some type alcohol in it. he says uta grownup water ao the girls don't drink it.

"i'm not don't worry. little missy over here has cookienapped cal's cookie, again," elise says to her husband with a slight smirk as she's trying not to laugh at what happened between the two friends. even jack was trying not to laugh at what she said.

jack bended to lily's level as she was way shorter than he is, heck even cal. she has always been the shortest of her family when they were her age.

lily looks at her dad with tears welling up in her eyes, like she was starting to cry, as grandma ruthie pulled the switch on one of her cousins, maybe her second cousins or something like that.

"hey, it's okay baby girl, okay," jack says as her cousin screamed a little and lily basically threw herself into her father to hide from the horrible sight. even if its across the room ont he other side.

Two years before

lily and eden were ten years old along with cal too as he's staying the summer with the coopers. like he does every year. he sleeps in the guest bedroom as it's right next to lily's room.

earlier that day

eden is talking to lily about the future, which isn't something that she talks about. it's more so jack who talks about the future. but lately she won't be seeing her mom anymore, as she's sick with cancer. doctors say that she only had a couple months left and then she's gone for good.

maybe it was a good thing that cal was here today.

"cal can you go and get eden, please," elise asks the boy as he nods his head at her, as he puts down what was in his hand, and he gets up to go find the other sister to his best friend.

"lil please promise that you will listen to whatever your daddy tells you okay. be the best person that you can okay, if you see someone getting hurt, tell them that they need to step up for themselves. okay like you do with cal when he gets hurt at school, okay, sweetie," elise says as lily is trying not to cry at her mom as she's trying to be strong and brave like her dad. he is her hero along with eden's.

"i'm here mommy," eden's soft voice says as she walks into the hospital room where her mom is. cal stands next to jack who has his arm around the boy's shoulder.

"good my little nuggets are here," elise says to the two girls as lily glances at her friend who nods his head at her.

"me and cal made you something at school today, and i hope you like it," lily says as jack hands her the little drawing that the two friends did at school that day. lily shakes a little as she hands it to her mom jack moves a little closer and has his other hand around lily's shoulder. cal grabs lily's hand and squeezes it to reassure her that everything is going to be okay. it's hard to believe that everything will be okay, when lily is definitely not going to be in about a couple of months or however longer elise has.

elise's shakingly grabs the drawing and she smiles at what is drawn. then an instant later her heart monitor machine goes off and a beeping noise is heard. lily doesn't even say bye as she's already out the door as the doctor's come running into elise's room.

"lily!!" cal and eden shout after the girl as cal is running out the door like lily was not a second earlier. the girl makes it outside and then she crashes onto the ground as she scraped her knee pretty hard as she just screams in agony.

just then, lily heard footsteps but she didn't even bother to look at who it was but she had one of three guesses who it could be. but she didn't look.

"hey, lil," cal says as lily basically crawled into his lap and he brushed his hand through her hair.

"if you ever tell me it's going to be okay, i'll seriously smack you," lily says as she tried to brighten the mood but it didn't work so much. then right after she said that she went into a coughing fit. then a minute later she felt a sickening feeling in her stomach and she went into the nearest bush and threw up what was in her stomach.

"let it out, lil," cal said as he quickly put her hair in a ponytail.

once lily knew that she was done throwing up she started back crying. that was the moment that she knew that her life was going in an opposite direction, and was never going to be the same.

"why me? why is it always me, where things like this happen," lily says as her voice is hoarse due to her crying and on top of that throwing up whatever was in her stomach.

"it's not your fault, that it happens to you, so don't blame yourself for it," cal says as lily knew exactly that he was right about it as he always is. it annoys her to say the least whenever he is right, about something like this.

"i hate when you are right," lily says in her hoarse voice as cal had a small smile on his face, as he knew that she was trying to brighten the mood. he could tell that she was trying to, he continued to rub her back to calm her down. as she does it to him when he's like this, though not to the extreme of the situation.

end of flashback

once lily was brought back into reality she didn't know that she has tears on her cheeks as her eyes are now bloodshot. she quickly wiped her tears to make it look like she wasn't crying though she can't do anything about her eyes being bloodshot though.

cal noticed that she had faint tears rolling down her cheeks as he didn't want to say something and then an entire scene is made between the two friends. though later when everyone leaves he's gonna ask her what's wrong.

eden was reading a book on a swing next to her sister as she was into her own world like lilly was except she wasn't crying like her sister. she is but in her book as its a book about the 'titanic', and what happened in the movie.

"girls food is ready," uncle aiden says as eden got up and she thought her sister got up too as lily was staring at the sand that is now in her shoes. she turned to her sister and had a confused look on her face at seeing her sister.

"uh be right there," eden says as aiden nodded his head as eden walked to her sister. "everything alright lil," eden says as lily was in her own world. which was fine but it concerned the sister to say the least, she has a feeling of what's wrong but she doesn't want to say anything about it. she wants to hear it from her sister as she has a feeling about what it is.

"i'm fine," lily says as she got up as she brushed her sister as she walked away and went to where everyone else was. eden was left confused and puzzled about what just happened. she never did that to her sister, if she did it was a long time ago.

she decided to brush it off for right now and like cal ask her what happened, and what's wrong. lily got to where everyone was and grabbed some food and she was going to sit next to her dad but she founded a table not too far from where everyone else was. cal and cecily shared looks when they saw lily sit where she was, as they knew that something was wrong with their friend.

"i tried but she wouldn't budge, it's like she doesn't wanna talk about it," eden whispers to cal and cecily as they nodded their heads.

"thanks, eden," cecily says as eden grabbed some food and sat beside her father and uncle aiden.

no one really seemed to notice about lily as they were too busy talking as grandpa theo was talking about what's been going on at the hospital. eden, cal and cecily would occasionally look over at their friend/sister but she would avoid their looks as she knows that they are looking at her.

later that night

everyone was at the cooper's house as they are having a bonfire in the backyard. lily is in her room avoiding being out tonight, as she's in her world as at the cookout she didn't eat that much. no matter how many times that, eden, cal and cecily would tell to get some more food, but she would just ignore them.

lily was in her room listening to music in her headphones as she's drawing in her journal to keep her mind off of her mom but it's not working at all.

cal got up after two hours of not seeing lily and he was concerned about the girl as him and cecily made their way to lily's room. she didn't hear them knocking as her music was up loud as she wasn't in the mood to be talking to anyone. not even her dad as she's starting to push everyone away, as this behavior isn't like lily. as she's typically open to people but there are somethings that she won't tell people for obvious reasons.

"i'll talk to her," cal says to cecily as the girl nods her head as she makes her way downstairs and back outside with everyone else.

cal walked towards lily as at the corner of her eye she saw him as she didn't even give him a glance or anything.

lily's pov

out of all people why is cal here? i'm not in the mood to be an open book, not since i had that flashback earlier today.

"hey, lil," he says to me as i groaned as i turned off my music, as i continued to be sketching in my journal.

"what do you want? if you want to talk about anything, don't because i'm not in the mood, so go," i say to him as he didn't even leave as i rolled my eyes at him as i knew that he wasn't going to leave anytime soon.

"liliana anne cooper, you need to listen to me," cal says to me as i rolled my eyes again as the next thing that i knew my journal was taken away from me. "no listen,"

"why should i. it's not like you listen to me, so why should i do it to you," i snap at him as he sighed as he had a look on his face.

"it's because you're too god damn stubborn to even listen to me. don't get me involved in this. you were doing good of talking earlier this morning but when we had the picnic earlier to didn't talk to anyone. isn't that not wrong. you need to stop pushing people away who want to help you, liliana," cal says as i avoided eye contact with him as i didn't want to talk about it. "what's wrong? you know you can tell me," he says as i clenched my fists tightly as i suddenly got up.

"well maybe things change. i said leave i don't wanna talk. what part of listening to me do you not understand cal. you don't listen to me so why should i do it to you," i say to him as i was stepping closer to him.

"well you need to stop pushing people away and bottling up your fucking emotions. i care about you liliana, that's why i'm here and you can't push me away. you won't talk to your sister or cecily," he said to me as we were now inches away from each other.

"just tell me what happened, and maybe i'd leave," he says as i rolled my eyes at him. "was it your mom? did you have a flashback of what happened when she died," he asked me as i stopped as i unclenched my fists and looked somewhere else.

i didn't say anything but nodding my head. i finally had my breaking point. instantly he grabbed me and carried me to bed and he got in next to me. he just held me in his arms.

"it's okay. i understand why you didn't want to talk about it," he says as i started crying a little and he rubbed my back.

i wouldn't know what i'd do without cal in my life. i don't know why i am sounding so fucking desperate but it's true. i guess this is what happens when you have known your best friend since diapers, basically. sometimes it's a good thing and other times it's the worst thing ever. though that part is a times. especially when someone has been reading my mind. i swear that man is a mind reader. probably not in the best way but hey it works, right?

"have i mentioned how much i hate crying," i asked as my cries become softer and i swore that i heard him laugh a little.

"if you mean everytime you are a crybaby, then yes everytime," cal said as i hit my head on his knee annoyed by his response. but it's true he says it every time.

"hey, i am not," i say pouting at him. "can't believe you'd say that," i say in a whiny voice as he gave me a teasingly look as i knew that he was right, but i didn't want to admit it. that was the last thing i want to do. by any means.

"so if you aren't pouty and whiny what are you doing right now, huh?" he says as i whacked his head with a small smirk on my face. "hey what was that for," he asked.

"for being an asshat," i said as i had my signature smirk on my face. i knew what he was trying to do, he was trying to cheer me up. i do the same thing to him anyway so it's like second nature to us and our friendship.

"i am not an asshat," he said defensively at himself as i playfully hitted him.

"language, mister," i said pointing my finger at him as it touched his nose, and we both laughed.

third person's pov

lily and cal just enjoyed each other's company the rest of the night, basically acting like they were dating. they both have boundaries and know when it's been too far. well mostly lily not so much cal.

what they didn't know was their lives were going to be changed forever. well mostly lily. her life will be changed, and it won't be a good thing either.

i thought that i could end this chapter here, as its pretty much a flashback chapter but i did throw things here and there. i at least wanted good majority of it being elise of some type. because angelina jolie does technically play her but mostly in her flashbacks, as a dead person can't come back to life, because that would be creepy af.
