Chapter Twenty-Nine: Betrayal?

~Nick~

The red fox entered the TPD with the bunny walking beside him. They received the test reports for the fur found on Casey's bed. However, they still had no idea what happened with the ghost pony last night. The two were still baffled at the incident. It couldn't be real. That'd be impossible! Ghosts don't exist, do they?

The question still troubled the two but Judy was even more terrified since she had went so close and almost even touched it. Even though she says it's fine, Nick could tell that she only said it to make sure no one else starts worrying about her. That was one of the things about her that would make her so likable.

"Well at least we know that one of the kidnappers was a wolf. Specifically a eurasian wolf." the rabbit broke the silence between them.

Nick nodded. "I just hope Casey's okay. She's been missing for three days! Who knows what they could've done to her!"

Judy looked down for a while and hesitated before asking the fox something that's been in her mind for a while.

"Hey, Nick, you've been pretty worried about Casey recently. In fact, all these days you've only been talking of how you wish Casey would return safely. But not once did you even mention who else went missing. You've never talked about agent Savage."

The fox remembered of how there were two missing mammals and not one. The entire time he forgot that striped bunny even existed.

"I...I kind of forgot." he quietly answered.

He noticed his partner chuckle and try to hide her laugh. "Seriously?" she asked, almost losing control. "You actually forgot all about him? My god Nick..."

The grey bunny shook her head in disbelief and they continued to walk until they noticed something.

A lot of the officers were rushing outside the building for some unknown reason.

Out of curiosity, the duo went outside with them.

The second Nick saw what was in the middle of the parking lot, his heart began to thump as a large smile stretched across his face.

On the floor were two panting mammals. One of them was a grey bunny with black stripes and another was a familiar red vixen.

"CASEY!" Nick called out in joy.

The vixen's ears perked up as she looked towards Nick.

"Nick? I-is that you?" she panted as she tried catching her breath.

The red fox ran over to his sister in a flash and embraced her into a hug, which Judy soon joined.

"Casey, you're okay! Oh my god I'm so happy you're alright!"

"Of course I am, Nick. You know I can't leave my little bro alone, right?" she smiled.

It filled Nick's heart with joy to once again see that sweet and caring smile. The one his sister always wore no matter what life brought against her.

She made it.

She survived.

The three of them hugged as the tears rolled down their faces. Nothing else mattered at the moment.

"So I can safely assume the missing mammals have been found?" said a voice.

A young and strong polar bear walked towards the mammals on the ground.

"And we got some of the criminals responsible for the chaos of the 'haunted hotel'." He looked over at two leopards caught by the many cops surrounding the four. "Well done agents. And you too, officers. Thanks to the sample of fur found, we can track down the rest of them."

It took Nick a while to realize what authority the polar bear belonged to.

He was the chief of the Tundratown Police Department.

He along with many of the cops went inside with the criminals, motioning the four mammals to come along.

Nick started walking with Judy but noticed Casey a little bit behind them. He turned around and saw her supporting the other agent. When he looked at the striped rabbit's leg, it had Casey's scarf wrapped around it.

Whatever happened to him?

After they all went inside, the polar bear, Chief Coldslash, ordered the four of them to stay for a while due to something that's come up.

The leopard, which Nick found out was named Winter, was going to say who she worked for. But it was someone none of them expected.

She pointed to one of the bunnies.

"Him. That's our boss."

According to Winter, the mastermind was one of the agents working for the case.

Jack Savage.

Silence filled the room.. They all turned to the grey rabbit. His eyes were wide open as he kept silent, watching in shock.

"Well? Anything you have to say about this agent Savage?" Coldslash turned towards him.

"I...I-I didn't do this!" the bunny yelled.

The fox rolled his eyes. Likely story.

"Boss, it's over." the leopard interrupted. "I think it's best if we accept our defeat. I'm sorry I failed you."

"What?! What do you mean boss?! I don't even know you!" he started screaming.

"Yeah, nice story, Savage. Just know we have to arrest you." Nick said.

"But I-"

"Listen even if you didn't do it, we need to keep you in until we find any evidence to prove that you're innocent. It's the law. For our safety." Judy informed the mortified rabbit.

"BUT I DIDN'T DO ANYTHING!"

"Boss, please. Just accept i-"

"STOP CALLING ME BOSS AND TELL THEM THE TRUTH!"

The rabbit charged toward the leopard but was held back by the cops and his injured leg.

"Ms. Iceheart, are you sure you're telling the truth?" Judy turned toward Winter.

The leopard nodded. "Yes. He is our boss. We've been planning to take the hotel. The plan was that hopefully because of the loss in business for the hotel owners, they'd close up or sell the building to us. It's been in his family's eyes for a while but they didn't get it in time. Someone beat them to it. So our boss decided that if we keep murdering more mammals, then the hotel

would have a loss in business due to the public being afraid of it. We never really thought we'd get caught."

"And you do everything for him?" the bunny asked taking down notes with her carrot pen.

"Yes, we do. We need to survive and he offers a decent amount of money for his bidding so we agreed. We work like slaves for him. Not only committing the murders but even normal things. Make his food, feed him carrots, choose clothes, repair the building, read him gardening books, buy everything ourselves, and yeah basically everything."

"WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT!?" Jack screamed again. "YOU KIDNAPPED ME! WHY WOULD I ASK SOMEONE TO KIDNAP ME!?"

The fox rolled his eyes again but got curious. "Yeah, why did you do all of this?"

"Well you see, our boss got into the spy department to see the best police and spies. That's why we kidnapped them. We were originally supposed to abduct the cops but we accidentally got the spy and our boss. We thought if we can eliminate the best of the cops and spies, we'd be able to get away with all of this easier."

"WHAT!?"

"Alright Savage your game's over!" Nick yelled. He was started to lose his patience with the bunny constantly denying any knowledge of this despite the criminals themselves confessing.

"BUT YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND I DIDN'T DO ANY OF THIS! SHE'S LYING! PLEASE BELIEVE ME!"

The fox noticed his eye looking right at his sister who was too shocked to react and just watched it all.

The bunny immediately broke free from the cops' grips and limped over to the vixen rather quickly.

"CASEY WHY AREN'T YOU SAYING ANYTHING!? YOU KNOW I WOULDN'T DO THIS!"

She said nothing.

He better get away from her soon.

Nick tried to make sure he was able to keep his calm.

"Savage move back!" he warned. The rabbit ignored.

Instead, he grabbed the vixen by the shoulders and brought her closer. "CASEY PLEASE! YOU KNOW I COULD NEVER DO THIS! I COULD NEVER HURT YOU!" his talking was mixed with his cracked voice on the verge of crying.

"Mr. Savage, I said back away." Nick's patience thinned.

He didn't want to see anyone messing around with his sister. Especially not her emotions. He had never been able to defend her before. Now, he's not letting her get hurt anymore. He won't let anyone brainwash her at all.

The rabbit's voice got calmer after noticing Casey's silence and her tears flowing on her lifeless face.

"Casey...You believe me, right? You trust me." he stared right into her crystal blue eyes. "Don't you?"

"JACK GET AWAY FROM HER!" the fox violently pushed him out of the way, causing him to crash onto the floor.

He lost all the patience he had for this rabbit. He was hurting Casey. He was causing her to cry. He had planned all of this to kill her.

The rabbit quietly cried on the floor, finally accepting defeat and allowing the cops to take him away and inform him his rights.

The three of them got back to the hotel. Neither said one word. When they were in the hallway separating the two rooms, Casey had finally spoken.

"Jack did all of this?" Her voice was as quiet as a mouse.

"Yeah. I never really expected that to happen." Judy answered.

Nick walked over to Casey and put a paw on her shoulder.

"I'm sorry sis. I know you didn't want another betrayal."

The vixen looked at the ground, eyes still moist from the crying.

After a while she shook her head. "N-no...Jack...h-he would never do this. Jack didn't do any of this!" she started to tear up again.

"I'm sorry Casey but it's the truth."

"No!" she jerked away from them. "He didn't do any of this! Someone is framing him! Nick please believe me when I say Jack isn't the type to do this! He's being framed!"

"Casey, I know you're upset but you have to accept the fact that he di-"

"NO, HE DIDN'T!" she was screaming right now. "JACK DIDN'T DO THIS! YOU ARE THE ONES THAT NEED TO ACCEPT THE FACT THAT HE'S INNOCENT!" she ran inside her room and slammed the door shut.

Judy and Nick both stood there for a while, trying to get a grip of what's happening.

"M-maybe she just needs some time alone to calm down." the bunny said trying to calm the tone of the atmosphere.

"I guess." Nick replied.
