5.10am, December 3.

"Hi..." Siddhart whispered softly, the sleep in his eyes not completely gone yet. He shifted slightly, turning to face her. He took her hand, caressing it lightly, enough to not wake her. He smiled.

"Good morning. Bola tha na, aaj tumhe beat kar hi lunga. 5.10, huh." He mumbled, pushing aside the covers.

Swinging his feet down, he stretched, yawning. From the corner of his eye, he could make out her sleeping figure. Getting up, he went to her bedside, kissed her hair, taking in the fragrance of her perfume.

"Kaam ke liye nikalna hai...bye..." he murmured, before leaving for the bathroom.

~~~~
Monami worked around the kitchen, humming a little to herself. She pulled out the pan, lit up the stove.
"..dekh....lee jiye...humko...kareeb se.." she smiled, finishing the line. It was his favourite song. Monami walked to the fridge.
Taking out two eggs from the crate, she went back to the heating pan, and cracked the eggs over it. While she waited for the breakfast to cook, she pulled out her phone from her pocket, checking her emails.
Before she could finish reading the first paragraph, a familiar scent wafted gently across the kitchen, and a pair of arms snaked around her, holding her in a bear hug. She smiled.
"Morning...uth gaye mere khadoos?" She said, leaning in to his chest. She closed her eyes, feeling his warmth.
"Chalo, I need to leave in 10. Tum bhi ready ho jao." She whispered to him, unwillingly breaking the hug. He nodded, and after a final caress of her cheek, he walked away, the fragrance slowly dissipating. She smiled at his retreating figure, tilting her head a little.
~~~~~

Siddhart walked out of the bathroom, drying his hair with the towel in his hands. As was his routine, he walked to his, no, their room, flailing the towel over his head, hardly seeing what was in front of him.

Satisfied, he pulled the towel off of his head. He was about to place the towel on the bed, but stopped midway.

She wouldn't like it.

He smiled a little, taking the towel and hung it on the stand in the balcony. Walking back in, his eyes fell on her.

She stood in front of his wadrobe, lookig at herself in the mirror, wearing one of his overcoats. He went and stood beside her, as if someone punched the air out of his lungs.

"Wow." he said, awestruck, placing his hands on her shoulders. "You would've looked so gorgeous..tum rakhlo. Ek kaam karo, wear it to work..Sanju." He grinned, getting lost looking at her, till she snapped her fingers in front of him.

"Oh..right..chalo.." he remembered. He took her hand in his and walked out.

~~~
Monami made her way through the busy market, knowing that he was behind her. She was walking and checking her phone simultaneously, when something caught her eye. A florist. Carnations.
She smiled to herself, stopping. Putting her phone in her pocket, she went to the store. She pushed the glass door open, the smell of fresh flora greeting her. She went to the counter, searching. Her eyes wandered over the flowers, but she had eyes only for one. The woman on the counter waited patiently. Sure enough, there they were.
"The red carnations please..." she said, eyes gleaming. "Tumhe pasand hai na..." she beamed at Karan, who nodded, smiling back.
The woman looked at her a little uncertainly, but handed her the small bouquet three carnations. Monami smiled at him, before exiting the shop, back on her way.
~~~

He was here. The place which he hated as much as he loved. The huge compound of the academy laid silent, almost a in bittersweet welcome.

He sighed, looking back at her. She stood beside him, giving him a reassuring smile. He smiled back. Adjusting his uniform one final time, Siddhart stepped into the campus, making sure she was behind him.

~~~
She was here, finally. Where she had least expected herself to be.
Well, a lot of unexpected had happened here. She sighed, tightening her grip on his hand. This place was a home to her, to them, home to valour, to honour, to love, to tears, to smiles, to laughs...to memories. A lot of memories.
Pushing down the rising discomfort in her chest, Monami continued to the gates, not leaving his hand.
~~~
He was supposed to report to Advani Sir. He went straight to his office, ignoring everything else on the way, everything, including it.

~~~
Monami took in a deep breath, and looked back. He was still here, holding her hand. She prayed, that he won't leave her hand. Making up her mind, she walked all the way to Advani Sir's office, not daring to lay an eye on anything, but the floor.
~~~

After a painfully slow 15 minutes, in Advani sir's office, Sid came out. He hardly paid attention to the person who came after him. What he had to do now was the most difficult part of the mission, even more so than the mission itself. He shared a final look with Sanjana, who had not left his side since he came. She gave him a sad, yet encouraging look. Drawing strength, he pushed his feet to take him to it.
~~~
Monami walked to her cabin's door. She had a joint office with Sid. He wasn't here yet. She stopped in front of the open door, taking in the smell- it smelled like old books. It was empty, untouched. Reaching inside, she turned to face him. She knew he would be there. Without a second thought, she rushed into his arms
"I've got to do this Karan...." she whispered, her voice almost breaking. She broke the hug, fearing that if she stayed any longer, she would never be able to do it.
"Let's go, Shergil..." she smiled, as he smiled back, walking out of the door. She followed him, she knew where he intended to take her.
~~~

Siddhart stood in front of the wall, staring at it, holding her hand. Her hand in his gave him courage, the courage he needed to face it.
"I have no other choice right...? Tum chahti ho...I'll obviously have to do it..nahi to.." he chuckled a little.

~~~
Monami walked along the very familiar corridors, drowning in memories. She smiled, remembering the time she had here. She looked at him lovingly as he walked by her side.
Her trance was broken by the sight of a familiar person, standing where she had to go too. Monami's smile faltered as soon as it arrived, as she saw the dupatta around his neck. He was clutching on one of its ends tightly, smiling. She went and stood behind him.
"Hi kamini..." he whispered.
"Hi bro.." she said softly, placing a hand on his shoulder.
"Office set hua kya."
"Abhi tak to nahi..."
"Hmm..."
Both of them stood for a while, looking longingly at what was in front of them.
"Sid...tujhe pata hai hume kya karna hai.." she said, enclosing his hand in hers.
"Hmm..." Sid said, finally lowering his gaze to the floor.
~~~

Sid could feel her hold on his hand loosening, but he knew Monami's still held on. He felt her move to him, placing a hand on his cheek, giving him an almost pleasing look. He sighed.

Slowly, unwillingly he let her hand go, watching her smile sadly at him. He returned a wavering smile, turning to Monami.

~~~
Monami watched Sid letting go of the end of the dupatta hesitantly. As much as it hurt, it was necessary. Monami could still feel his lingering perfume in the air. She could feel his hands on her shoulder, and him in front of her, giving her strength.
She let out a shuddering sigh. Taking a deep breath, she let go of the ring on the chain she had been clutching since she arrived, feeling his perfume slowly fading.
She squeezed Sid's hand. Looking up at the dark granite slates lining the wall, the embossed letters gleaming, radiating honour. She knew what she had to do. What Sid had to do. What they had to do. Face the reality.
