Chapter 17
(Y/n) yawned, awaking from her slumber. As she blinked open her eyes. But as she gazed at her surroundings, she was confused. Where am I?
She was lying on the grass, which was oddly soft. Endless flowers sprouted up from the ground, with a few trees here and there. The sun was shining brightly down on the oasis.
"Do you like it?" A deep voice asked her.
(Y/n) whimpered as she spun around. Yami sat down beside the girl. His eyes still held the same sad look as they had earlier, before she passed out.
... Before I passed out...
Memories of last night flooded (Y/n)'s mind. She practically collapsed onto the grass, beads of tears forming. "God," she swore. "Where did you take me?"
"You mean us?" He asked. "I made this place with my puzzle. For the record, you're still unconscious. I'm just keeping you company until you wake up,"
"Alright," she replied, her voice shaky. "Where is my body?"
Yami blinked. "You're at the Domino Hospital. You collapsed, and the doctors found some burns on your skin. Nothing deadly, thank goodness, but still enough to scare me," he sighed. "Oh, (Y/n). What are we going to do with you?"
(Y/n) was silent for a moment. Then she spoke up. "Why do you still care about me? I've been such an asshole to you guys for the past while,"
Yami shifted a little. "I'll always be concerned about my friends, (Y/n). Even if they treat me terrible. If anything, that's more reason to worry," his crimson eyes shone. "But I always have hope for them. I refuse to lose you, (Y/n). You know how much I love you. So why did everything collapse when it was all going so well?"
Oh god.
(Y/n) took in a deep breath. "Well... there was this one night a while back. I couldn't sleep. I looked outside and saw you with Hanasaki's Dad..." Yami stared at her sadly. "I admit it, I may have followed you to the scene, and, well..."
She stopped, rivulets of tears trickling down her cheeks. "I know you weren't aiming it at me, but I just got so scared, Yami. I was afraid that if I just, stood by... somebody... one of our friends might..."
(Y/n) sniffed. "Of course, that didn't happen. They supported you, all the way. Meanwhile, I felt, er- feel like a shell of my former self. I've been so paranoid that you'd come for me and hurt me-,"
The girl stopped as she felt Yami place his lips delicately over hers. (Y/n) trembled in his grasp and he hugged her gently. She let her tears fall, and whimpered through his affection.
As their lips separated, Yami cupped (Y/n)'s cheeks with his hands. "(Y/n)," he spoke quietly. "I would never treat you like that. All the things I've done... all of those things... they were to protect my friends. I would never be able to live with myself if I harmed you like that..."
(Y/n) opened her bleary eyes. They were so close to each other, and it was almost more than she could bear. "I-I..." she started to say, but Yami gently shushed her by placing his forehead on her own.
"It's okay. I'm here. I'm sorry that you felt that way about me and the others. Like you couldn't confide in us. If you ever, ever have another issue like this, you need to talk to someone. Come to me. To Anzu. To Yugi. To anyone that you trust,"
(Y/n) was surprised. Yami has no reason to apologize. I'm the one who should be apologizing. For trying to hurt everyone.
"I don't know if Anzu will ever trust me again," (Y/n) admitted.
"She could," Yami responded. "These things take time. As long as you are careful about your actions, then it's quite possible to become friends with her again,"
"You really think so?" (Y/n) sniffed.
Yami nodded silently. (Y/n) looked upwards. The sun was still shining brightly down upon these two. The two teens sat side by side, watching the clear, trouble-less skies above them.
And maybe, just maybe, (Y/n) thought peacefully to herself. Everything will be alright...
