Chapter 18: Shattered

Zatt POV:

The crowd flared with laughter and screams of excitement as the next performance dazzled their senses in an overwhelming fantasy of magic. Of course, I chuckle at the fact magic remains separate from the Force we Jedi practise. I find it amusing that people call us "Wizards". I tried to squeeze my way through the group of overexcited civilians celebrating. Their joy was contagious.

I must admit, if I were not in charge of their security, I would probably throw myself into having a good time.

Suddenly, I felt a chill down my spine with the same nagging feeling that's been repeating over the last couple of weeks. I looked around. However, there was so much rifle through the Force I couldn't concentrate on just one presence. My smile dropped as the Force sent me signals that whoever was watching had not dropped their gaze. There are so many people! I am much too vulnerable here!

Quickly, I dashed out of there, constantly checking behind me as the Force's calls deafened every sound. I am being followed! I can sense it! I saw a glimpse of a dark shadow walking in my direction before I felt someone grabbing my wrist! Automatically, I seized the arm before swiftly blocking my attacker between the wall and myself, taking my lightsaber out and pressing it unenlightened against its neck!

"Zatt! Holy happabore! It's me!"

Ganodi! I sighed with relief as the waving through the Force disappeared. Whoever was following me just saw her with me. I dragged her to a nearby alley to ensure we weren't pursued.

"Zatt, are you ok?"

I finally looked at Ganodi. Rodians. They are the reincarnation of stars and ocean breathing. Only when I look at Ganodi does my mind feel at peace. It brings a feeling of home.

"Much better now."

She looked concerned, and with good reasons, I almost killed her back there! I see no point in talking to her about it, especially when I sensed it near the waterfalls twice. She would want to speak to the Council, and they already have their hands full with this festival.

"I am sorry." I forced a gentle smile. "I got into trouble back there. Drunkies."

No one can blame me for being a good liar.

"Zatt..." She began uneasy. "I need to tell you something... about my vision."

At first, I felt relieved to hear her say this when the wary feeling of earlier returned. Oh no! I wrapped an arm around her shoulder. The sensation followed us as we moved, but Ganodi did not seem to pick up on it as I glanced several times over my shoulder.

"That's great Ganodi! Let's join the others on the plaza and talk about it!"

"I talked to Master Yoda and thought I had to share my concerns with you." She tried to stop and unwrap my arm off her, but she needed to move! "Zatt! What are you-?? Stop pulling- You're hurting me! Let go of me!"

I noticed a shadow enter the alley, and my heart beat faster! I grabbed her wrist, but she pulled away from me! Cannot she understand I am trying to protect her?

"Ganodi! Will you move on?!"

"What is wrong with you? Listen to me!"

The wary feeling increased as I tried to pull Ganodi away from it.

"Yes! I am! Now, move!"

"NO! Just pay attention! My vision-"

-make her listen-

"GANODI! I DON'T CARE ABOUT YOUR STUPID VISION! I HAVE MORE IMPORTANT, REAL PROBLEMS TO WORRY ABOUT! BOTHER SOMEONE WHO GIVES A DAMN! NOW GET THE HELL AWAY FROM ME!"

Oh... wha-...

I saw her face decompose right before my eyes and the tears that quickly followed. Did I yell at Ganodi? I never yelled at anyone, let alone Ganodi! She hastily nodded, rushing past me without giving me a chance to respond. Her name escaped my lips as I reached out my hand, like to prevent her from slipping through my fingers.

She stopped in her tracks. Maybe she heard my plea, but her eyes met again, flooded with tears. My heart sank as I saw what I had done to her before I saw her look widen in recognition. A rash call through the Force sent shivers down my spine while we felt the vibrations beneath our feet. We both extended our hands out as I saw her breath "Zatt".

Suddenly, I was pulled backwards through the Force right before the building next to Ganodi flared in a million twinkle of glass. The echoes of the laughter of the crowd turned to horror.
