Chapter 16: Mise en Garde

Petro POV:

Master Skywalker and I were walking with our lightsabers in the air so we could see something in the catacombs. The power was not functioning and with those soldiers disappearing, everything started pointing like sabotage to me.

"So..." I started, hoping Master Skywalker had realised the same thing I did. "What do you think happened to those clones?"

Skywalker did not even look in my direction as he took a turn at an intersection. He can sense where we are supposed to go. Amazing.

"We'll find them." He merely said.

I gave Katooni's Master a strange look he did not return. With everything I heard and all she told me about him, I expected more input from the legendary Jedi Master. I did not want to face the obvious conclusion that those soldiers might be dead. Unexpectedly Master Skywalker said.

"I understand this isn't your first rescue mission."

The youngling in me would call this a dream come true to be on a mission with the man. Now, it has become an opportunity to forge a bond with my girlfriend's mentor!
-Be cool, Petro...-

"Nope!" I enthusiastically replied and winked. "I have been on missions with Plo before and you would not imagine what I've saved him from! You do not have to worry Master, I've got your back!"

"I heard you led the rescue mission to save Ahsoka on Florrum when you were told to stay put."

Why is he talking about this here and now?

"Ahsoka was in danger! We were the only ones that could have saved her in time!" I immediately asked. "Master, why are you mentioning this?"

"You disobeyed orders."

I scoffed at the obvious hint of disgust and disapproval in his voice. Is he sermonizing me for disobeying orders? Him? The man known throughout the Republic as the most free-minded Jedi that has ever lived! Shaking my head I sarcastically spoke.

"Wow, with your two model apprentices, you're clearly the perfect candidate to lecture about disobeying orders."

I realized how terribly wrong this came out a little too late.

His head slowly turned in my direction, glaring at me. My eyes widened as I swallowed my pride. I'm terrified that I might have disclosed too much about Katooni. This is the man who defeated Count Dooku... who defeated Darth Sidious... I felt shivers running down my spine as I realised I could very well disappear like those soldiers and nobody would question it. His pupils shifted before dilating in recognition as he grabbed my wrist and brought my hand and lightsaber closer to his face.

"What," He began slowly and with an obvious tone of rage boiling inside him, "are you doing with my apprentice's lightsaber?"

Oh no...

Zatt's words flooded my mind, and his hold on my wrist tightened harder.

"Haaa..." I gasped trying to keep my face straight. "I- huh... I-" Memory of him slamming Barriss Offee against the Great Tree rushed back. He was so angry... the look he had... like now... "I-uh... tried it earlier! She must have mine... no big deal, right?"

He squeezed my wrist even tighter preventing any possible defence from his blade just inches from my face. Both lights from our lightsabers illuminated his face in the darkness, as I saw a side of the man no one could have possibly imagined. I do not know how terrified I must look: why do I never listen to Zatt!?

He leaned forward slowly saying.

"Make sure you give it back." I hastily nodded in agreement. "If I ever see you near Katooni again, I will tear your limbs apart and throw you in the deepest, darkest living HELL Mustafar has to offer!"

I swallowed and blocked all memories from last night to keep him from sensing them. He dropped me and continued on his way. I sighed with relief and horror. Katooni...

What have I gotten myself into?
