CHAPTER 29
Twenty four hours later, I have taken a shower and I'm fully dressed in clean clothes, still wearing a hat. I wait for Anna to come back into the room. 'You got dressed pretty quickly.' She comments.
'What can I say?' She smiles before grabbing my things.
'Do you have your medication?'
'Yeah, Doctor Jonathan came to give them to me and Doctor Ash spoke to me about them yesterday.'
'Okay, come on then,' she replies and I smile grateful that we're finally leaving.
We walk outside and I breathe the fresh air in. I slide into the passenger seat and Anna begins driving slowly. 'Anna?'
'Yes?'
'Can we stop by a hair salon?'
'Would you like to go now?' She asks as she looks at me before turning her attention on to the road.
'Yeah, if that's okay?'
'Of course it’s okay,' she replies as she drives through the familiar roads of the hair salons.
She parks the car five minutes later and we step out of the car, walking towards the hair salon closest to us. We enter the shop and we're greeted by a woman called who introduces herself as 'Bo.' She informs me that she will be doing my hair. She motions towards the chair in public where multiple women are getting their hair done.
'Do you not have a private room?' I ask.
'Of course, just follow me,' she replies.
'I'll wait here,' Anna says and I nod before following Bo.
I sit in the isolated room and sit on the chair in front of the mirror. I take my hat off and she gasps softly asking 'what happened?'
'I had a brain tumour and to remove it they had to shave my hair.'
'I'm sorry.'
'Don't be,' I reply. She smiles before asking ‘I’m guessing you want hair extensions to cover it up and make it look like your own.'
'Yes please.'
'Well it’s coming right up,' she says and I smile.
----------
Nearly an hour later, she finishes and I look into the large mirror in front of me, expecting her work. It looks exactly like it did before I got the surgery done. 'Thanks.'.
'You are welcome,' she replies. I follow her out to the main setting and get my credit card out of my bag to pay. Anan notices as she walks up to the counter and swats my credit card away.
'I'm paying Kira.'
'No, Anna its fine.'
'Kiera,' she replies sternly and I know better than to argue with her so I thank her and put my credit card away. Anna pays the woman and we walk out of the store. 'You look exactly like you did before,' she says breaking the silence.
'That was the plan,' I reply and she chuckles as we get inside the car.
----------
The drive home wasn't that long and Anna parks the car in to the driveway. I get out of the car, waiting for Anna to do the same before walking towards the house with her. Anna unlocks the door and opens it as we step inside before closing it.
Lily must have heard the door as she walks down the stairs. 'You're back,' she says as she wraps her arms around my neck. I wrap my arms around her waist returning the embrace.
'Chris and Tom are upstairs, come on,' she says pulling my arm upstairs. I roll my eyes at her behaviour but follow her nonetheless.
'You look awesome,' Lily compliments.
'Thanks.'
'No problem,' she replies as we walk into Lily's room and they're both sat on Lily's sofa. They both hug me once I enter the room.
'How are you?'
'I'm tired, like really tired,' Chris chuckles and I sit on Lily's bed.
'Are you guys going to Joe's part next Saturday?' They all nod and Chris returns the question.
'I’m not sure, I might.'
'You won't be drinking though will you?' Tom questions and I shake my head.
'Good because we all heard what happened when you got drunk at Lucy's party.' Chris replies.
'Shut up Chris,' I reply, not wanting to remember the memory. He shrugs his shoulders as he says 'I'm only saying.' I ignore him as I have nothing to say to his comment.
'So what are you two doing here?'
'We wanted to see you as we didn’t get a chance to visit you in hospital.' Tom explains and I nod my head.
'What did the doctor say?' Chris asks as he sits up.
'He gave me some tablets for my chemotherapy treatment and he explained that they'll give me side effects.'
'What sort of side effects?' Asks Lily as she sits next to me.
'Things like loss of red blood cells, white blood cells, platelets, loss of appetite so it’s not my fault if I don’t eat,' I say to Lily who smiles and nods.
'What else?' She asks curiously.
'He said that if I drink alcohol I could faint, feel sick or have drastic consequences.'
'Well then no alcohol for you,' replies Tom pointing his index finger at me as if I’m a child who has done something wrong.
'I'm aware of that Tom,' I smirk and he nods his head, acting proud.
----------
A few hours later, Tom and Chris go home and I go downstairs, dropping my body onto the sofa. I grab a blanket as I lie down switching the TV on. Lily walks in and pulls my feet onto her lap as she gets comfortable. 'So who else visited you in hospital?'
'Lucy, Kara, Joe and James.'
'How did that go?' She asks curiously as she mutes the TV.
'Not so great,' she turns towards me and I know she is expecting me to expand on my answers so I do. 'I didn't mind the fact that Lucy and Joe were there but James and Kara? That tipped me over the edge.'
'What did they say?'
'James apologised for leaving randomly and Kara wanted to be friends,' I sigh loudly.
'What did you say?'
'I forgave James but I really don’t see me and Kara being friends. Like ever.'
'You didn’t see yourself and Rosabella being friends.'
'Shut up Lily, you're really not helping.' I snap and she apologises instantly, allowing me to carry on. 'Joe and James left for coffee, leaving us in the room. Then Lucy asked about the hat I was wearing and wanted me to take it off. I got a little annoyed and I might have said something that upset her.'
'What did you say?' She asks concerned.
'I said that if I was going to show my bald head to someone, it'd be you. I think she got annoyed because the other day she was talking about how close we were.’
'Do you actually think that?' She asks shocked.
'Well, she told me-'
'Not that bit, the part where you said you'd show me,' she clarifies and I nod my head. 'Why?'
'I don't know, probably because we are closer,' I shrug my shoulders and she smiles wrapping her arms around me and I return the hug.
'You should apologise to Lucy,' she says as we pull away.
'I don’t know why she took it personally though, she literally left.'
'Stormed out?'
'I might be exaggerating because she hugged me and said she'd see me later before she left.’ I mumble into the blanket. Lily laughs, shaking her head.
‘You should have told me that piece of information before Kiera.'
'I'm telling you now.'
'You still have to apologise.'
'I know, I'll do it tomorrow,’ I reply and she nods.
'What about your friendship with Kara?' She asks curiously.
'What friendship?' I ask rudely and she smirks rolling her eyes.
'Seriously Kiera.'
'I am being serious, there is no friendship between us,' she narrows her eyes at me. 'I don’t want to be friends with her Lily.'
'I think Lucy wants you both to be friends.'
'And whatever Lucy wants Lucy gets,' I reply annoyed.
'Kiera, I didn’t mean it like that, I just meant that it'd be easier for her if you both got along.’
'But you two don’t get along,' I say, tilting my head to the side.
'We're talking about you not me,' she replies, trying to change the subject.
'I told her I'd consider it.'
'So why aren't you?'
'I did and I have made up my mind.'
'You're evil,' she replies.
'No, I'm not, I don't want to befriend someone who argues with my best friend.'
'Don’t say that to Lucy,' she demands with a smile on her face.
‘Why not?'
'Because then she'll think that you two aren’t best friends seen as Rosabella argues with Lucy and that you're favouring the both of us.'
'Oh,' I bite my lip as I didn't think of that.
'Rosabella isn’t as bad as Kara though.'
'If you say that to Lucy, she will get mad at you, you know that right?' I sigh loudly, nodding my head. I grab the remote from Lily and ask 'Can't we just enjoy the TV in front of us?'
'Sure,' she replies and I unmute it as we watch a documentary about nature.
