Chapter 1
Peter's POV:
"You have to find it. I know you will, Peter."
I woke up with a jolt as always. My face was covered in beads of sweat even though it was November 20th today. Burying my face into my palms I tried to shut that damn voice. This had been going on since almost 2 weeks now. All I could do in my dreams was hear this voice booming and the OSCORP Tower. I know it makes no sense but well, that's my life now.
I get out of my bed to brush my teeth. As I reach the cabinet and look up, I see my reflection staring right back at me. I was there but something was missing. Something was wrong. I looked extremely tired and weak. If May saw me like this she would figure out something was wrong. She always does. God, how will I ever dodge her questions as to why I wasn't sleeping well? I don't want her to worry about me, she's already got enough on her plate. Just as I'm trying to figure out this I hear my alarm go off.
"Shit shit shit NO!!! Not again." I screamt in frustration. I was late for school, yet again. I banged my hand on the cabinet in anger and BLECH- the tube of toothpaste in my hand was now a little empty since most of it was splattered onto the mirror and some on my face. UGH JUST THE BEST START TO A MONDAY MORNING.
"Are you up, Peter?"
"Yes May, just leaving for school."
I gotta leave before she comes up to see the mess I've made in my room.
I changed into some fresh clothes, got my bag, held my shoes in one hand and tip-toed down the stairs. I heard some noise coming from the kitchen and assumed May was working in there. It would be better for the both of us if I directly left for school. I picked up a a piece of the sandwich on the table and shot out the web from my left shooter and swung right out of the house. As I landed on the opposite roof I saw May right outside our house. She certainly did not look happy.
"I'm sorry I'll clear up everything as soon as I reach home, LOVE YOU! BYE!"
Ooh I'm gonna be in trouble.
I ran towards the edge of the roof and swung onto the pole across the bridge, onto the next tree, to the next roof and in no time I reached school.
I heard the bell ring which meant I was late for my first class of the day. I knocked before entering the class and all the students turned to look at me. I hate this so much why does everyone have to stare at someone who's late to class? Clearly that person is embarrassed enough that they are late and the staring just doesn't help. Mrs.Lodge glanced towards me through her thick black glasses and gave a disapproving look.
"Why are you late, once again, Mr.Parker?"
"I'm sorry, I had to help out my aunt with some work and I didn't realize I was late. I won't be late again Mrs.Lodge, I promise."
She nodded towards the empty seat in the second row and I shuffled my bag and took my seat.
"Don't make promises you can't keep, Mr. Parker."
"Yeah, but those are the best kind." I whispered.
Just then, Gwen, who was seated right in front of me turned around. She had this smirk on her face and was definitely controlling herself from laughing out loud. She most definitely knew I was bluffing.
Gwen Stacy, the girl who sits in front of me in History. The girl who will surely be the valedictorian of our class. The only other student who keeps me on my toes for scoring the best in school.
But she wasn't just that. She was my everything. She was a shot of espresso in this world of fatigue. She was the girl I fell for, and when I fall for someone, I fall hard. Gwen was the one person who got me, my problems, my fears, my happiness- She truly understood all of them. And so did I for her. We loved each other. She was my strength and my only weakness as well.
I got lost thinking about this and staring at her gorgeous blue eyes. Just then, I heard some noise and I came back to reality where Mrs. Lodge had moved on with the class and Gwen was gesturing me to look towards my book.
I really need to get a grip or I'm gonna lose out on grades this year.
The class got over pretty quickly and all the students shuffled outside the class. I reached the door and was waiting for Gwen by the lockers.
As soon as she met me, she smacked me on my hand. "OW! What'd you do that for?"
"Where were you, Peter?! And why were you late for school for the third time in the past 10 days? I know pretty well that you weren't helping May, she'd never keep you from school. So what happened?"
"Woah woah woah, catch your breath Wen. I woke up a little late that's it that's what happened. Nothing's wrong. Geez, chill!"
"You know Wen sounds so weird why do you even call me that Peter?"
"I don't know its just cute plus I get to see you scrunched your nose up and get annoyed. Have you ever looked at yourself get angry? You look ADORABLE."
"Stop it Peter you know I like Gwen better than any other name- wait what did you say?"
"What, what did I say?"
"You said nothing's wrong. I never asked you if something was wrong. What's going on Peter? You know you can talk to me, right?" She said, hugging me tight.
"Gwen, I'm telling you, everything's fine. And yes, I will talk about anything that bothers me. I know you're always gonna be there for me."
I hugged her back and I felt all of my worries disappear. This felt so close to home.
"Yes, Always."
