Ren Hosako Pt 2
Narrator: Soon after debuting in the world of Sports Entertainment, Ren Hosako managed to find his niche around the world, but his homesickness made him even more dangerous inside the ring.
Kai/Ren(subtitles): As I was being homesick, away from my family and friends, it helped me become more aggressive and more technical if you will. After two years of traveling all over the world for experience, I came back to Japan, this time to compete in the G1 Climax Tournament. I faced off against who would become the Rainmaker in New Japan Pro Wrestling, Kazuchika Okada, and I beat him in my debut year. Later at that time, I became PWI's Rookie of The Year. When I won that award, I was actually very excited because I was really being acknowledged by a big pro wrestling magazine.
Narrator: But it wasn't the only thing that was acknowledged of Ren Hosako, as his peers would learn about his goals and his ideology of breaking down doors for people with disabilities, but not in a good way.
Kai/Ren(subtitles): I wanted to be the top guy. I wanted to break down barriers for kids with disabilities, like myself, including those who were diagnosed with the Autism Spectrum, and I'm pretty sure it's why my peers and fans didn't like me that much at first.
Masami/Io Shirai(subtitles): In Japan, Autism is seen as a stimulant, and if you reveal your diagnosis to people, you're basically turned away, that's why instead of saying "I'm autistic", you're saying "I'm can be shy very easily", but Kai didn't want to say that because he knows who he is and wants to be an inspiration for many people who had the same disability as he does.
Kaori/Kairi Sane(subtitles): To be honest, I can't really say that I disliked his ideology, only because of the culture. I really admire Kai's aspirations and how he manages to work very hard, but then again, people turned away from him because of that.
Narrator: When his disability was revealed in an interview for Tokyo Sports in 2010, Kai would be shunned from his peers and fans. However, Minoru Suzuki saw something in Kai that others didn't, including the Godfather of MMA, the founder of New Japan Pro Wrestling, and WWE Hall of Famer, the late, great, Antonio Inoki.
Kai/Ren(subtitles): Antonio Inoki, rest in peace, knew that I was on the cusp for greatness, giving me advice on how to deal with these matters and how to turn the negatives into positives, so I kept working hard and made sure to let everyone that I wasn't going anywhere. This was my dream, and I wasn't going to let anyone tell me differently.
Minoru Suzuki(subtitles): Kai was someone special and when his disability was revealed in the interview, I wasn't against it, because I knew for a fact that he wanted to set the standard on how a wrestler with autism should be perceived by his own people.
Narrator: Over time, Kai's popularity resurged and the fan base started to grow from medium, to large, to extra large, and his peers started to respect his work ethic and character as a person even more, but until 2015, everything would change.
Kai/Ren(subtitles): I knew that revealing my disability was necessary because I wanted to show that I can be just as good as everyone else in the locker room, hell, in 2012, my twin sister would start wrestling because of me, even though she doesn't have a disability.
Kaori/Kairi Sane(subtitles): I only started wrestling because of how Kai was pushing the boundaries and being an absolute beast of a wrestler, to where it actually made me pursue the sport after being a yacht competitor, which would turn into the Pirate Princess.
Kai/Ren(subtitles): I was happy for her, because she got to pursue her own path and actually try wrestling and it sounded like she was having fun, but what wasn't fun was me not being booked properly in New Japan. Sure, I would win the IWGP Intercontinental title on two occasions, but that was when I was being a good guy. I noticed over the few years I would get a few more boos. I checked my merchandise sales and I saw that it dipped a little bit. I knew I needed a change, so I talked to Gedo, the booker of New Japan about the idea of me turning heel. When I asked him, he refused to let me turn to the dark side. I then talked to management about siding with me to turning heel, and of course, to no avail. I thought it was bullshit because the fans were wanting a change as if they saw me and said, "Okay, what's new?".
Footage of Kai being booed at by the fans as he's standing in the ring, looking frustrated.
Kai/Ren(subtitles): After a show, I had a meeting with Gedo and I told him everything while trying to be polite and respectful as possible because I really wanted to turn heel to freshen things up a bit, but of course, he was so stupid, he didn't know what I was talking about. I mean, Gedo promised me that I was going to win the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship at one point, but of course, it never happened. So, I said, "You're being delusional. You hear the fans booing and you think it's natural? Then you're wrong. If you don't see how the boos were being directed towards my character, then I quit." I mean, I actually said it and walked out with no smile on my face. I had enough of the bullshit, so I called Kaori and asked her what I should do next because I wanted to keep wrestling as this was my dream job.
Sam Roberts: Ren Hosako would talk to Kairi Sane, his twin sister, and they would talk for hours, just trying to keep the failed heel turn off of his mind, but then, he starts thinking about the advice Minoru Suzuki had given him.
Minoru Suzuki(subtitles): When I heard Kai left New Japan, I was stunned, but when I heard that Gedo didn't want to turn him heel, I was furious, because I heard the fans being absolutely merciless towards him, booing him out of every arena he wrestled in, and I told him to turn him heel since they were wanting a change, but of course, Gedo refused to turn him to the dark side. Instead of letting Kai quit the business, I offered him a place in Suzuki-Gun as we were taking over Pro Wrestling NOAH at the time.
Kai/Ren(subtitles): Suzuki-Army was a group of guys who can work and talk. Real simple. When Minoru-San offered me a place in his army, I needed change more than life itself at that point. He said to me, "I'd want you to put lightning in a bottle again." I said, "I'm in".
Narrator: On July 13, 2015, Kai would defect from New Japan to Pro Wrestling NOAH, taking down GHC Junior Heavyweight Champion Taiji Ishmori, and solidifying himself as the newest member of Suzuki-Gun.
Footage shows Michinoku in the ring, confronting Ishmori, and just as he was about to say something, Taka stood back, as Hosako, hooded, runs down the aisle, jumps over the guardrail in one swoop, takes out a chair from underneath the ring, slide into the ring, and hit Ishmori in the back as he was down.
Ren keeps at it by hitting him with the chair until it was all bent up. He throws the chair down, put Ishmori in a Suplex position, lifted him up and hits a Brainbuster onto the chair. Ren gets back up, looked over Ishmori's fallen corpse, and takes off his hood, revealing his face, leaving the audience in shock, including the commentary.
Commentator 1: ああ、神様!ああ、神様!細子蓮さん!細子蓮さん登場! (Oh my Gods! Oh my Gods! Ren Hosako! Ren Hosako is here!)
Commentator 2: ホサコが石森太二に背後からブレーンバスター!彼はここで何をしているのですか? (Hosako just gave Taiji Ishmori a Brainbuster from behind! What is he doing here?!)
Kai(subtitles): This nobody? No!
The crowd boos as Kai keeps talking into the mic.
Kai(subtitles): I want this title, and I will get this title, because as of right now, there's been a change in my heart.
Kai unzips the hoodie to reveal the Suzuki-Gun shirt, and throws the hoodie away, getting a gasp and commotion from the audience.
Kai(subtitles): I am Suzuki-Gun... ICHIBAN!!!
Kai throws the mike down, lays the Championship on Ishmori's chest, and smiles with such evil that TAKA smiles as well and lifted up his fist towards Hosako and they connected.
As they walked away from the ring, Kai talks at the camera...
Kai(subtitles): Ishmori, your days as Champion are numbered, because that title you desperately cleave onto...
He smiles as he screams out...
Kai(subtitles): IT'S MINE!!!
Kai/Ren(subtitles): I really thought I made the right decision, because I was desperate for a change, and I needed it badly, and in my mind, I was telling Gedo, "I told you so". This was something everyone didn't see coming, and rightfully deserved.
Minoru Suzuki(subtitles): Gedo was wrong. He didn't think turning heel would be a good idea, and it was. If he ever saw what I saw in Kai, he'd be a great booker and actually made it happen. I was proud of Kai for sticking up for himself. He needed change, and I was happy to take him under my wing and give him the opportunity to do what he does best as a wrestler, but turn him into an asshole heel.
Sam Roberts: Ren Hosako had joined one of the most notorious factions in Japanese wrestling history and everyone had seen something that they thought they wouldn't see: Ren Hosako was evil, and the hate that was yet to come.
