18. Getting Across to Authority

Gerard's POV

Letter 134
Hey Gee, I'm currently performing the song I wrote with Corey. I should be back in time for tonight's sunset, though! This will only take a few minutes, so we should be able to get something to eat when I get back. Bye, I love you.

I folded the note back up and put it away in the drawer with all the others. Classes were over for the day, so I was just waiting in the room for Frank to get back from his performance.

It was pretty dark in the room, so I decided to go over and draw the curtains. Looking outside, I saw a few cops walking towards the building. What the hell are they doing here?

I decided to text Jimmy.

Me: Hey Jimmy, got any idea why the cops are walking towards our dorm?

Jimmy: Idk, something about an assault I think. They're just going around and checking rooms, asking questions, stuff like that. No need to worry.

Me: Do we know when they'll be gone?

Jimmy: Whenever they've decided they have enough evidence I guess.

Me: Okay. Thanks I guess.

Jimmy: Sure thing. Take care.

Shortly after I finished texting him, I heard a knock on the door. I was anxious, but I decided to hide it. Panicking wouldn't help the situation at all.

I straightened out my clothes before heading to the door. When I opened it, I saw two officers standing outside. One held a clipboard, probably to take notes, or perhaps there was a list of suspects.

"Hello sir. We've just come here to ask a few questions, is that alright with you, uh... Gerard?" He asked while looking down at the clipboard.

"Yes. That's fine."

"Okay, first of all, you live with a roommate, right? I believe his name is Frank."

"Frank Iero. Yes, that's correct."

"Okay. Is he in the building right now?"

"No. Right now he's at a performance. He's a music student, and they had a project to present today."

"Will he be back anytime soon?"

"He should be back in a few minutes."

The officer nodded before continuing. "Alright. Have you recently been doing anything of risk to your health? Drinking? Smoking? Anything like that?"

"No. Neither of us drink, and we haven't been off campus to smoke, so we haven't done anything like that recently."

"Okay. Good so far. Mind if we check the room? Sorry for the inconvenience, it's just a protocol we're forced to follow."

"Yeah, no that's fine. I don't mind."

I stepped aside to let them walk in. As they looked around the room, I noticed myself nervously twiddling my fingers, so I put my hands in my pockets to stop.

"Mind to tell us why there is a red stain on the trash can under this desk?" My head shot up to meet their eyes, and I struggled to find my words.

"Yeah. Frank's nose started bleeding yesterday, so we had a lot of bloody tissues to throw away. Some of the blood got onto the bin."

"Well I can tell you're telling the truth," he said amused. "If something was wrong, most art students would say that it was just 'paint.' They think trained cops can't tell the difference between blood and art supplies. Good on you, son."

I silently praised myself for answering honestly, and continued waiting until they were done searching.

Midway through their search, Frank walked into the room and paused when he saw the officers. I smiled slightly at him to reassure, but I could tell he still had questions.

"Is... is there a problem here, officers?" Frank spoke up. The officers turned to him at the sound of his voice.

"Ah, Frank Iero, right?" Frank nodded, still very obviously confused. "There's no problem, we were just told to check rooms and ask a few questions. Mind if we ask you a few things?"

"No I don't mind," he shook his head while setting his stuff down beside his bed. (Well his old bed. We both sleep in my bed now.)

"Okay, we've received a complaint from a man named Axl. He seems pretty... how to put it nicely... shaken? I don't necessarily trust the guy, but unfortunately, we are forced to consider his accusation. Can you either confirm or deny that you attacked him?"

"Ah bullshit," I heard Frank mutter. "Sorry about him. I can confirm that my friend Bert attacked him, but he was defending me. Axl came to our place a few days ago, and he was stoned. He asked for more money, most likely to buy drugs, and he punched me when I denied. My nose started bleeding, so I kind of had to tend to that, and Bert saw that I was preoccupied. He came over and punched Axl to scare him off. You see, I've been Axl's roommate for the past three years, and he's been nothing but trouble. I had to request to move here with Gerard just so I could get away from him."

"Alright. Thank you for your cooperation sir. We'll go search his room today, and if the evidence checks out, he'll be taken off the campus and sent away. I'm terribly sorry for any troubles we've caused."

"It's no problem, officer. I'm just happy to get him off my back," he sat down on his bed and sighed.

"Okay. Thank you both for your time. We'll be on our way now," they said before leaving the room, closing the door behind him.

"Well that was certainly unexpected." I broke the silence and laughed a little bit before sitting down beside Frank. "It's a good thing they're actually dealing with that guy, though."

"Yeah. It'll be nice to finally live in piece. They should've dealt with him a long time ago though."

"At least the drugs give them a reason to send him off. I mean, it's a shame he chooses to waste his life away like that, but oh well. I guess there isn't much that can be done about it anymore."

I looked over at him and saw a bright smile planted on his face. I tilted my head to rest it on top of his before speaking again.

"You look awfully happy, Frankie. I'm guessing the performance went well?"

"Oh yeah, it went pretty good actually. It was fun, but that's not what I'm thinking about right now."

"What are you thinking about?"

"Well I don't want to freak you out with my thoughts about the future and stuff. You probably don't want to hear, it's nothing."

Freak me out about the future? I don't think Frank would be able to freak me out with anything he said. "I won't be freaked out Frankie, just tell me. Please?" I held his hand in mine and squeezed it reassuringly.

"Well I was thinking about the future, and about us. I was wondering, would you want to move in together after college, Gee? Just the two of us? We can rent an apartment until we're able to buy a house, and after that we can do anything we want with the place."

"I think that sounds lovely Frank. We would have to save up money for the down payments though. Do we have any ways to do that?"

He stayed quiet for a considerable amount of time, probably thinking of what we could do. "Well, we could do simple things in our spare time. I could find some restaurant or something to play acoustic at. Got any leads?"

"Hmm..." I thought long and hard for any possibilities, until a realization finally dawned on me. "Hey! I'm sure Jimmy could get you started at the café! I think he mentioned something awhile back about them wanting some form of entertainment. You could play acoustic for a few hours each night there, and make money off of tips!"

"That sounds awesome, Gee! Can you give me Jimmy's number so I can talk to him about it?"

"Sure! Hand me your phone." I went into his contacts, and entered Jimmy's number. I also went ahead and sent him a text. Hey Jimmy, this is Gerard texting from Frank's phone. I gave him your number since he's interested in the gig at the café. "There you go," I said when I was finished.

"This is great, it'll give us an awesome head start on rent."

"Yeah. I've also thought, I could do art commissions. I can set up a social media site or something to display my art work, and people can request things they want me to draw. Shouldn't be too difficult, and we could get a decent chunk of change out of it."

"That's Great, Gee! It'll be helpful to have both these opportunities, that way we can pay rent while also covering student debts. We can get started right away, and make a savings account to put the money in. We'll have enough cash in no time."

I gave Frank a tight hug before hopping off the bed and heading over to my desk. I opened my laptop and began searching up Instagram. I figured that Instagram was a pretty good social network to display art on.

I immediately began the sign-up process.

When I had everything set up properly, I chose one of my favorite characters as my profile image. It was an image of the blue-suited one that I drew not too long ago that was saved to my laptop.

I connected my phone to the laptop in order to upload some of the pictures I had taken of my art. I should get a flash drive for these, I reminded myself.  When they were completely uploaded to my computer, I unplugged the phone and set it aside.

"Frankie come over here and help me one second."

"What do you need, babe?" He approached me, kissing the top of my head and leaning on the chair.

"Choose one of these drawings that you think I should post first." I pointed to the screen which was currently displaying my camera roll.

"Hmm..." he looked over all the images, scrolling down until he had seen them all. "I really like this one." He pointed to a drawing of a red haired hero, wearing a yellow mask and a blue jacket.

"Party Poison it is." I clicked on the image and posted it to Instagram, adding a quick caption and a few hashtags to get it noticed.

"Party Poison? That's an awesome name, Gee. What do they do?"

"It's a pretty long story. It's actually a comic book I have planned out. Do you want to know the whole backstory?"

"Fire away," he took a seat across from me on the bed, knowing that I was about to get into extreme detail. I always got into extreme detail when explaining these types of things. They were always just so interesting to me.

"So the story revolves around five main characters. There's Party Poison, Jet Star, Fun Ghoul, and the Kobra Kid. They're the main heroes in the story, and they're currently trying to protect a little girl, the other main character, from a company known as Better Living Industries, or BLI. The mission that BLI tries to accomplish is very problematic, as they are trying to put a ban on all creativity in the world. The reason that the 'Fabulous Four,' as I would call them, are trying to protect the little girl is because she still has her creativity, making her a target for BLI. These four are known as the original 'killjoys,' and they start a cause that others join in to help defend, leading to a revolution. Basically, they are fighting for their creativity. It's a big war between the killjoys and Better Living Industries. That's basically the summary of the plot."

"That's really interesting," he commented when I was done. "Can you tell me more about the characters?"

"Sure," I replied. "Where to start?"

"The Fabulous Four."

"Okay." I pulled out four drawings from my drawer, each piece of paper containing a character. I started on Party Poison. "So here's Party Poison. They're sort of the leader of the group right now, and they have the most vibrant appearance as you can see." I gestured towards the colorful outfit. "They are very close to the little girl, and want only to keep her safe. They're willing to fight for what they wish for, and protect what they're not willing to give up."

"Okay, cool! Next up... um, tell me about that one," he pointed to Jet Star.

"Ah, that's Jet Star. He gets his name from his space-like helmet. His most defining feature is probably his hair, which is similar to the girl's. Speaking of her, he's got the closest bond with the girl, and has sort of become her guardian in a sense. He's willing to fight, but his main goal is to protect her."

"He does have extremely nice hair," Frank commented, causing me to laugh. "Okay. This one next," he pointed to Fun Ghoul.

"That's Fun Ghoul. He's probably one of the most valuable killjoys out there, seeing as he has extremely good sharpshooting skills. He's willing to sacrifice himself in order to save others, meaning that he'll do anything to accomplish his missions. He wears a ghoulish mask, which is where he gets his name."

"Fun Ghoul is probably my favorite so far. Okay, last one is Kobra Kid, right?"

"Correct," I nodded. "Kobra Kid is a team player. He'll do anything that the killjoys need him for, and he'll stand against anyone that tries to get in their way. His most noticeable feature is his helmet, with the words 'good luck' written across the visor."

"Those characters are all so cool, Gee! Are there any side ones that I can know about? Ones that are important to this story, but don't show up as often?"

"Of course. First we have Dr. Death Defying. He's a DJ who updates the killjoys from a radio station broadcasting throughout the desert. His assistant is Show Pony, who goes out to retrieve information on roller skates. Cherri Cola is an ally to the killjoys who sticks with the girl, teaching her valuable things. Val Velocity is the main antagonist."

"Wow Gee, this all sounds so incredible. You're so talented. I can't wait to see what else you come up with!"

"Thank you, Frankie. I really appreciate that." I put the drawings back in my drawer before walking over to the window. "You know, the sun is about to set."

"Do you want to go outside and watch it?" Frank held out his hand with a smile.

Smiling back, I took it and interlocked my fingers with his. "Of course, Frankie." I gave him a kiss on the cheek before we walked out of the room.

When we got outside, it was just about to start. I led him to the tree that I always sit at, and motioned for him to sit down on the ground beside me. We kept our fingers interlocked as we waited for the sun to start falling.

We shared a mutual silence as it began to set over the horizon. I enjoyed taking this time to truly observe all of the detail that enveloped the sky. That chameleon sky was the one thing that I looked forward to every night. It felt like the world was drowning me in a whole bunch of color, all at once.

Today the clouds were out, reflecting the pink light that radiated from certain areas of the sky. It made the clouds look like cotton candy, and I suddenly found myself craving a bite of cotton candy. Damn you clouds, why must you look so delicious?

But besides that, all the colors slowly started falling in line with one another. Eventually, all traces of yellow were gone, followed by orange, then red, then pink, then purple, then blue, then navy until the sky was completely black. The spotlight was now directed on the stars, twinkling all across the sky.

I laid down against the grass, staring up into the endless universe that awaited me. Events like these always made you feel so small, knowing that you were just a tiny part of the infinite universe. There was something so much bigger out there, so much more extraordinary than earth itself.

I don't know if there's a god out there, but if there is, they did an amazing job creating the universe. Everything was set up so perfectly.

"This is so beautiful, Frankie. I love the sunset." I said softly, facing Frank who was also laying on the grass.

"I agree. It's almost the most beautiful thing I've ever seen in my life."

"Almost?"

"Yeah. Almost."

"What's the most beautiful thing you've ever seen in your life?"

He smiled widely before continuing. "I'm staring right at him."

Authors Note: Okay I'm sorry there aren't many smut scenes in this fic, but I LIVE off of fluffy scenes like these so get off my back. I also don't write smut often so I'm not even sure if it's good or not. ANYWAY, I hope you enjoyed this chapter.
