You'd bought two noodle boxes from some little shop called Mr. Pings Noodle Shop. It was run by a very short and very welcoming man who eagerly told anyone who walked by about his son. (who occasionally comes by and helps out and is supposedly an incredibly high ranking police officer in some kind of task force.)
But you didn't mind being told the same stories over and over by him since he was such a sweet old man. That and he made the best noodles you'd ever tasted. It was kind of exciting to share this gift of the taste buds with someone other than Floyd.
Leo. Your new... somewhat pal.
You had to do a few things in your flat before going up so you just told Leo you'd meet him there.
Opening up the door to your little apartment made you feel a certain degree of relaxedness. However you didn't feel as relaxed as you would've liked and that was most likely because you still had to entertain another person, a person who wants the detailed information of the long and emotionally exhausting study (whilst actually spying on a buddy) date.
There was a creeping feeling inside you that you weren't going to enjoy this at all.
With a small groan you dropped your caught up homework on the table and grabbed a soft blanket (in case Leo wanted one too) then climbed out the window with your takeout noodles in hand.
Once you climbed up your fire escape to the rooftop of your building you spotted Leo sitting a few feet from the edge of the building, looking at the big ball of light beginning to nestle itself under the horizon. You figured he was having a moment and decided not to try and scare him. You wanted this to go as smoothly and as quickly as possible since you were so fucking tired of today.
So, quietly you walked up next to Leo, gaining his always seemingly interested gaze on you. "Hey." You greeted with a tired smile.
His gentle inquisitive look morphed into a kind, tipped smile. "Hi."
After a moment of examining it you extended the blanket you'd brought up, then looked back to him. "You cold?"
His smile seemed to subtly grow before he shook his head. "Not yet." He said leaning back on his palm. You simply nodded and let the blanket land next to where you were going to sit.
As you sat next to him his eyes landed on the plastic bag you'd carefully set in your lap. Like a hungry puppy.
You eagerly fished out the two takeout boxes and proudly handed one to him. He accepted it and smiled a bit wider. "You know you didn't have to do this." He said, looking over to you.
You simply shrugged and then offered him a pair of chopsticks, still in its little paper package. "Yeah well, it wouldn't be polite to have food without offering some to a guest."
He hummed with a slight nod and right as he touched the paper covered chopsticks, you couldn't help the teasing words that seemed to slip out, not fully thinking it through. "I don't want you to think I'm the absolute worst again." You said with a light chuckle.
Leo paused as his hand gripped the offered chopsticks with a slightly taken aback expression before chuckling too. "I didn't think you were the absolute worst. Just.. close to being the worst." He defended surprisingly light heartedly. You couldn't help the laugh that pushed out of your chest.
The amused grin that spread across your face was mirrored by him when you both met eyes again and a gentle aura surrounded you both. That was until your eyes flicked down to the chopsticks you both were still holding onto. You promptly let go and —as naturally as possible— brought your hand back to your own noodle box.
Leo's eyes flicked away before he cleared his throat quietly and gently brought the chopsticks to himself.
Taking a moment to let that weird development settle down, you spoke up again to try and make the air a little better again. "Speaking of not being the absolute worst," A sudden, subtle chill latched onto your spine in fear of just what he would say became of your peace offering. "What did you do with Crognard The Barbarian?"
Leo tore the paper open with his large fingers, it seemed like it'd be impossible for those things to even attempt opening something so little. "Well," He took a long, horrible moment to think. You couldn'thelp but think he was taking a long time just to see you squirm. "It's definitely not as good a Space Hero's but... it's not totally horrible either." He said as he expertly places the chopsticks in his hand.
The sudden ecstasy that coursed through your veins was insane.
You didn't quite realize just how much you were actually worrying about what happened to that enormous box of VHS memories until just now, and knowing that he was watching it instead of destroying it sent you over the moon.
"You- You still have it? You didn't burn the box?!" You asked excitedly. He frowned, feigning an offended look. "What kind of person do you take me for? I wouldn't burn tapes! Do you even have the slightest idea of what that does to the environment?" He asked before letting that mock front melt away with a casual laugh, that was until he was met with your confused expression.
He coughed awkwardly, as if trying to cover up the fact that he was laughing at his lame attempt at sarcasm then looked down. "Heh uh, no, I didn't burn it. Mikey actually has grown annoyingly fond of that show." Leo laughed as he opened the box of noodles, getting a warm, god-gifted waft of spices and herbs all in his face.
"Pft! 'Annoyingly fond'. I feel like me and Mikey may actually get along really well." You hummed with an amused smile while you popped open your noddles box too. You liked Mikey a little bit more all of a sudden.
Leo smiled then shovelled the noodles into his mouth like the expert he is.
You grinned as his eyes became wide and his back straightened up a whole lot more. He looked to your amused face, as if surprised he was eating this then looked back to his noodles before leaning back to kicked his legs out. "Holy crap!" He yelled out and leaned back over his noodles with his legs straight out in different directions, devouring the food like a maniac.
You could only watch in awe at the flurry of this hungry turtle while you poked at your noodles with a pair of chopsticks. You momentarily wondered if you really were hungry anymore.
He looked over at you with a sudden swing of his head, making you jump slightly. He was in mid chew but forced it all down before grinning. "These noodles are amazing!" He praised before going back to shovelling them in his mouth.
"Yeaahhhh..." You couldn't look away despite really wanting to. It was honestly kind of incredible how fast he was eating. What a champ.
You weren't certain whether you should be grossed out or laugh.
Finally deciding, you laughed and shook your head while fishing out a small amount out of noodles and slurping it up subtly. You enjoyed it slowly and enjoyed the trip to flavour town.
The casual laugh coaxed his attention off his dinner to you with his stuffed cheeks and noodle residue all over his face.
It was hilarious and oddly adorable.
His outstretched cheeks turned an odd reddish green upon seeing your amused eyes on him. He quickly covered his mouth with his hand whilst turning away, chewing a bit more politely... he seemed to only now notice how he was eating and got extremely embarrassed. He must not have been used to eating around people or something.
He turned back to you after finishing his large bite and stretched an awkward grin across his slightly red face, hunching over a bit. "Uh.. um s-sorry heh." He apologized timidly before looking back to the noodles sitting in his lap.
You hummed and poked around in your food. "Not used to eating with a human huh?" You pointed out before fishing out a good amount of noodles and promptly putting it in your hungry mouth.
He looked over, accidentally yet intently watching you slurp up a slippery stray noodle in between your slightly puckered lips. That was until he noticed you looked over and caught him watching. "Uh-!! N-No that's not it!" He impulsively defended himself. "W-We actually have human company over a lot and Uh- uh..." He was defending his amount of human contact until he realized what he'd just implied about his feelings towards only you, which was exactly what popped into your mind.
"... heh, so what? You just like me?" You passively joked then chuckled lightheartedly and ate a bit more.
Leo seemed to be confused for a second before his spine straightened up almost uncomfortably tall. "What?! Ha!- I just- I- hah!" He sputtered out. Right while that came out of his mouth, his eyes looked pretty much the most horrified you'd ever seen him look.
His horrid sentence structure made your own eyes go wide as you whipped your attention back to him, making you choke.
However you didn't have time to die by these delicious noodles and you defied your untimely demise in order to utterly ruin Leo over this.
Dramatically, you coughed the noodle up in one huff then slammed your noodle box down next to you. "Oh my god! You do like me!" You started to laugh.
The turtle went into damage control. "Hey! Don't let this go to your head-"
"Too fucking late!" You stood up and pointed down at him. "Admit it Leo! I'm a freaking catch and the most fun person ever!"
He frowned up at you and stood up too. "Jeez Y/n! What did I just tell you? This isn't a big deal! I like a lot of people!"
"So you admit it!" You cried out happily, poking your index to his plastron. "You like me! You wanna hang out with me all the time because I'm the best and none of your friends are as cool as me!" You said triumphantly, placing your hands on your hips.
Leo's embarrassingly red face got even darker in hue. "That's not what I said.." He groaned, setting his burning face in one hand.
"Haha! I don't care buddy boy! That's what I heard! You like me too!" You said with a half grin, but your face suddenly looked as if you'd just eaten a lemon. Your lips sunk into your mouth and you eyes went wide. Hopefully he didn't catch that 'too' at the end.
Oh my fucking god... You idiot...
Your eyes slowly slid up to meet his rapidly cooling face, his composure quickly reconstructed at your reaction to you words. He fucking caught it.
Aw shit.
Leos smirk slowly and triumphantly curled the corners of his mouth in such a way that made you want to burst. "You like me." His smugness almost suffocated you and the way his eyes softened comfortably now that you were under the bus could almost make this embarrassment worth it.
"Pft! Ha! ...Whatever!" You said, trying to play it off as you punched his shoulder, his... incredibly toned shoulder... his rock hard shoulder... his bag of rocks shoulder... actually ouch... hand... in pain... oh my god.
"Hahaha! Ouch! Haha!" You laughed, holding your clenched hand in your other as far down as you could without looking weird so it would stay out of sight.
Leo's smile seemed to grow like he was about to laugh again and he sighed before putting a hand on your shoulder. "You are quite the character Y/n."
The leap in your heart did not go unnoticed once he touched you. Your eyes stared at his hand for a moment before you huffed out relived air then looked up to him with a growing smile on your slightly open lips.
His smile settled onto his face as you both stared at each other. His eyes grazed along all of your features of your face.
The quiet, hormonally confusing moment that passed you effectively left you in a slight tizzy but forced you to jump the gun. "Did we just become best friends?" You asked, eyes as wide as they could be.
Leo hesitated, a look of shock flashed across his face which shifted only momentarily to a dejected look. It melted as fast it showed as he shrugged. "Let's start with friends, 'buddy boy.'" He said and pat your shoulder, then shook it softly back and forth in a friendly manner.
You shrugged. "Alright, I'll settle." And then sat down again, followed closely by Leo. The sun had sunk close to halfway under the horizon, being the most brilliant assortment of colours so far tonight. But you knew that it would soon disappear.
So you made the most of it.
"So back on track." Leo said, clearing his throat. "What exactly did you get on the Ashmore's?" He asked while crossing his legs and grabbing his noodles again.
You were taken aback by his question, and a bit confused until you got your head back in the game. "Oh, right... Henry." You hummed, chewing the inside of your cheek as guilt began to bubble up again.
Leo seemed to take notice of your tone right as he had his mouth hanging open for another bite, but he postponed that and lowered the noodles, sending a confused look in your direction. "What is it?" He questioned
"I-" you rolled you tongue over your teeth with closed lips, taking a moment. "I'll tell you everything I have on him up to this point but, I don't think I can keep prying information out of him."
Leo fully dropped his chopsticks into the noodle box and his face read all sorts of confused. "What? Why? Did he find out about us?"
You shook your head. "No not exactly. I mean not yet, but I think he's catching on. Plus I don't like going around behind his back." You scratched the back of your hand anxiously.
Leo's eyes flicked to your nervous hand then back to you. "Why?" His voice seemed extremely suspicious.
"Well, Henry and I are becoming really close buds, hell we are close buds. I don't wanna go behind a friends back." You explained.
Leo took a moment, running the information in his head over and over again before humming against his knuckles. "Well, I guess it's safest you don't try to dig anything on him anymore."
You nodded along in agreement.
"But, you're still going to be stuck with us." His eyes slid over to yours which were watching him intently. He cleared his throat and poked around at the noodles, averting his sight from you. "Y'know, just in case someone with less than palatable intentions finds out about the connection between us." He said then tilted his head back and slurped his noodles quickly.
You simply smirked. "Ha, I don't need an excuse to want to hang with my new buddy." You teased while gently bumping his arm with your elbow.
He sighed then looked over with a ghost of a grin. "It's like talking to a self absorbed wall."
You shrugged with an amused smile, you bent a leg up enough for you to lean onto. "Admittedly, that's not the worst thing I've been called." You said through a little chuckle while looking over at him. His faint grin widened making a laugh pass between you both.
"... Anyway..." You said through a sigh, smile dropping slightly as you looked forward. "There are horrible communication issues between Henry and Tiberius. Henry and I thought Tiberius was on a trip but lo and behold here comes this middle aged man stumbling through the doors during our study session."
You took a moment to think. "That Lack of communication may contribute to Henry's worries of not inheriting the company."
Leo's head seemed to perk. "How much does he want the company?"
You knew where his mind was going with this, and as much as you wanted to defend your friend and make Leo realize that Henry wasn't like that, you felt that you had to be impartial and only give facts. After all, you'd only really been hanging around him for a month or so. "Well, yeah. He really wants to be a part of the company, but his father seems to keep him there for the public. Henry has to clean up messes and after that fall ball fiasco he's been taking most of the heat."
Leo put a hand to his chin in thought. "Well, what does Tiberius do in the company?"
You hummed with a slight frown. "It's... fuzzy at best. Henry is very secretive about the business, but I have plenty on how much he doesn't like his dad."
The look on Leo's face made you suddenly want to make Henry sound better than he was sounding so far. Screw impartiality! "But! He told me that people he considered friends used him to get to the company so that's probably why he's so airtight about it."
Leo's eyes widened at your defending of Henry. After a moment his eyes looked away, seeming to mull this over. He looked almost disappointed.
"Alright... well, that's fine because while you and Henry were chatting it up I managed to get my hands on a very valuable book." He said, the negative look melting slightly into a proud subtle smile.
"Oh?" You sat back slightly. "What book did you snag?"
Leo reaches to his belt and pulled out a rather little book, it couldn't have have more than two hundred pages. "Apparently it's an in depth business strategy book." He handed it to you.
A strange look crossed your face and looked back to him. "So... you just felt like you could brush up on your business side of being a ninja?"
Leo smiled a little and shook his head before scooting closer so there was pretty much no space left for Jesus between you both. This made your ears start to get warm as your head moved away slightly.
Heh.... okay..... this is fine..
He then leaned evEN CLOsEr.
uUuuUUUHHHH?? Yep! Okay! Here we go?? I guess this is happening???
Then plopped his finger tip against the bottom of the cover. "Look who wrote it." He said through a little smile, attention only on the book.
Oh.. lol not what I thought was going to happen.
You stared at him for a moment longer before you let out a small wavered breath while looking down to what he was pointing at. A name.
"T.J. Ashmore..?" You questioned. Leo nodded and flipped the book that was in your grip over to show the backside to see Tiberius' creepy mug contorted into a serious expression, his spine was horribly straight and his eyes seemed oddly wide.
You couldn't help the amused grin spread across your face at this. "This looks like a mugshot." You said looking to Leo who was already watching your reaction with a matching amused face.
"My thoughts exactly." He said and looked back to the book. "While we were digging for any kind of public knowledge of criminal activities on the Ashmore company-" He sighed and rolled his head to the side towards you. "-Which was insanely clean.-"
He turned his razor attention back to the book resting in your hands. "-Donnie stumbled across an interesting bit of information from about four years ago which just so happened to be this little guy." He said, patting the cover.
"...okay..? So... what's the big deal? It's a dumb, self-absorbed pat on the back." You said, looking to Leo while handing the book back to him.
A mischievous smile pulled onto his face. "Yes it is, but it's also a pat on the back he never officially published." He said waving the book around.
A perplexed look landed on your face. "... really?... That's and interesting choice."
Leo nodded along, seemingly getting more and more enthusiastic about the whole thing. "And what's even more odd is that he'd been promoting the book for a good month before it's 'supposed' release date. But the marketing for it stopped suddenly and everything that was known about it was taken down pretty much over night and the book never came out."
Your brows lifted in shock, then morphed to slight confusion. "That's more than a bit suspicious..."
Leo nodded and put the book back in his belt and securely fastened it in. "I'd say. So I wanted to know just what it was about this book that couldn't be put into the public eye. Plus, I had a feeling he'd still have a copy kicking around but, the whole library he had took me by surprise." He said and looked back to you.
You scoffed in agreement. "Yeah, I almost had an asthma attack at the sight of all those books."
Leo tilted his head at you. "You have asthma?"
"No... but I might as well. I could not breathe." You said with a laugh, but you weren't joking.
He smiled softly then looked to where the sun that was fully submerged under the horizon. The orange sky began to fade into a dark greyish blue which would eventually melt to black, or as black as the city lights would let it. The temperature began to get a slight nip to it which convinced you to hoist the blanket you had pooling around you onto your shoulders.
A peaceful yet slightly disappointed feeling settled in, the kind that indicated a nice visit was about to be over.
"You like books?" Leo said, cutting the quiet. You couldn't help but feel grateful he wasn't going to leave immediately.
You almost answered yes, but then thought about Tiberius' book, and how that was a book. Ew Fuck no.
"Eh, books can be so many things that I don't like." You said making Leo chuckle and sit back in a relaxed kind of way, he probably knew you were talking about Tiberius' book. "So I'd have to say I'm more of a story kind of person. It doesn't really matter if they're real or not, long or short, or even if it's a story someone would tell around a campfire. It's just sort of an opportunity to live in another world or time or situation, and the best thing about it is that it's something everyone has access to." You finished with a confidence that seemed to radiate off of you.
That was until you realized Leo simply looking at you and nodded, completely absorbing everything you'd just spilt. It suddenly made you feel like a complete dork who was trying to be profound whilst totally oversharing.
You pulled the blanket around yourself tighter and groaned through a nervous laugh. "Heh, uh... sorry, no filter."
Leo's face went soft and he smiled kindly. "You don't need to apologize Y/n." He reassured, making you meet his eyes. He continued on. "It's nice to understand your train of thought once and a while." He chuckled, nudging your arm like you've done to him.
It was obvious he was making fun of you, but at the same time, you couldn't help the warm feeling rising in your suddenly giddy stomach. Whether it was because he was warming up to you or because he'd actually been thinking about the things you say, you couldn't be sure. Either way, it was nice.
But if it was the latter you might have to be a bit more careful about things you say.
You didn't say anything and instead looked down to your lap, oddly quiet for just receiving a jab from him.
He watched you for a moment before looking out to the rapidly darkening horizon. The orange of the sky was melting into a soft pink that lit both your faces, a warning that the night approaching quickly.
Leo sighed, relaxing his body for a few seconds longer before a shiver ran through him. "... well." He began looking to you then back to the sky. "It's getting cold, I should get going."
That's what made you spare him a glance. "Now?" You slipped out without much thought. He nodded once in response, but let another moment pass.
"Anyway, thank you for the information Y/n." Your eyes stayed on him as he stood up. "And for the noodles." He chuckled picking up the box.
You pulled yourself from your thoughts to the now and cracked a smile. "Hey, no problem." You said looking up to him from your nest of blanket. "Anything for my new best friend."
He shook his head in amusement then offered you a hand up. You grinned smugly and slapped your hand in his, letting him hoist you to you feet.
Getting to your feet, he squeezed your hand that was still locked in his. "Bye Y/n."
"Stay safe out there, you never know if a weirdo is gonna chase you down." You both retracted your hands from the bro hand hold and you stepped back a bit.
A laugh left him and put his hands on his hip. "Hope I do better next time."
You grinned kindly, pulling the blanket closer against your back. "Alright, I'll let you get outta here then."
He nodded and turned away. "See you later buddy." And with that he took a running start and leapt across the alley next to your apartment and made his way from rooftop to rooftop.
An excited grin stretched across your face as you crawled back down the fire escape, back into your apartment. You were completely relaxed and on top of the world.
Thinking that was gonna be a laborious task was a sore mistake on your part. It was truly amazing that he wasn't acting cold towards you anymore.
He even liked you now, which seemed like quite the achievement considering your rocky beginning. So being around Leo tonight was definitely not as horrible as you were expecting.
The smile that was on your face didn't leave for even a moment for the rest of the night.

⚠️ Please read!!⚠️
I've been meaning to ask if you guys mind that this book isn't really close to the shows plot line, like at all... like it completely went off the rails with this book. Actually, it wasn't even on the rails to begin with!
And do you mind these non canon characters I've added??
I just wanna know if this bugs you or not so I'll be a bit more understanding for future books. (I'm already knee deep in this plot line so I'm not about to try and change it up lol sorry.)
Although I hope you guys understand that I wanted to make something different.
But please tell me if this isn't exactly what you dig, because ultimately you're the ones who're reading it.
On a lighter note,,
I actually uPdAtED!?? Wow!
Also I fucking love my little precious Leo! AH! I really hope you guys enjoyed this one!
