Chapter Six
Chapter Six
"Are you okay?" Somebody asked me. I pulled my hand away from my ears. My eyes were wide open in shock.
"What happened?" The same person asked me. He shook my right hand slightly.
"Are you hurt?" The person again asked. I felt my heart rate get back to normal. I opened my mouth to take a big gulp of air in. My body was slowly calming down from the shock. His voice was still very clear in my head. I remembered everything he said.
"I will come for you Ashley. Wait and see," the voice haunts inside my head, "I will come for you Ashley. Wait and see. I will," the voice kept on saying me. His voice got deeper and deeper by the minute.
Again fear spread through my body, but before I started to have another panic attack I feel myself being hugged from behind.
"Are you okay?" a familiar voice asked me. I felt something inside me trigger. The person tightened his arms around my waist supporting my body. He kept still for some time.
I closed my eyes and took deep breaths. After a while my heartbeat started to calm down. Some more seconds passed and my heartbeat was beating at its normal pace. I could still feel the fear but I chose to ignore it.
"Hey, come on. Let's take you to your room," Leon said to me as his arms around my waist freed themselves. He put his arm on my back and gave it a slight push.
I started to walk towards the party but Leon pulled me to another direction. I raised my right eyebrow questionably.
"I don't think you want to go that way," Leon said as he pulled my arm, which made me stumble forward in surprise. I turned my head back towards him and glared.
"What?" Leon asked me.
"Nothing."
"Come on, tell me. Did I pull your arm too hard?"
"No."
"Then what?" Leon asked still completely confused.
"I told you nothing," I said to him, walking in sync with him.
"So why didn't we go the shorter way?"
"Who said that was the shorter way?"
"Well, I assumed since everybody was going that way."
"Everybody huh," Leon said chuckling to himself. The air around us suddenly became tense. Both of didn't say a word. No sound could be heard except the sound of our feet crushing against the fallen leaves from the trees at the border of the forest.
"I probably ruined everyone's night," I said breaking the silence.
"No your not," Leon said looking over at me.
"Oh come on I ruined your night. You could be with your friends having a good time. What are you still doing here? You could tell me the way and you could go back to the party. I know you are my roommate but you don't need to do this, seriously," I said to him. I wiped the tears that had fallen down my face.
"I'm not that bad of a person you know, and you did not ruin my night. Even if you did ruin my night I offered to help remember, so it was my fault for offering," Leon said to me. The corner of his mouth turning up into a small smile.
"Why are you doing this?"
"Doing what?" he asked me in fake confusion.
"Why are you so nice to me?"
"Well when I was small my mom used to tell me to always help others," he said laughing.
"You know that's the first time I have heard you laughing," I said, laughing with him.
"Well I hope you hear me laugh more times," he said in a British voice, which made me laugh even more. I felt a slight ache in my stomach from all the laughing so I kicked the muddy ground hard to stop myself from laughing anymore.
"You have a good British voice," I said.
"Thanks."
"Did you live there?" I asked him as we turned right to see the university's dorm right in front of us.
"No. I'm just good with accents," Leon said to me as we climbed the stairs.
"Lucky you. I can't do an accent to save my life," I said.
"Shame. I guess you will have to hear my accents for the rest of your life," he said struggling his shoulders.
"If I know you until then. I mean you can never predict what could happen in the future. I could be living miles away from you," I said stopping in front of the dorm room. I dug my hand in my purse to take out the key but Leon beat me to it.
He opened the door and walked straight to the kitchen without saying a single word.
"Did I say something wrong?" I asked confused.
"No," he said as he opened the refrigerator.
"Okay. Are you sure the way we came is the fastest way," I asked changing the subject to avoid the awkward silence again.
"Actually it is the longest way to come," Leon said, as he pushed himself onto the platform of the kitchen.
"What? Why did we go the longest way?" I asked, shocked that he lied to me.
"I wanted to spend some time with you," he said. I felt a blush creep it's way to my cheeks.
"Well, you didn't have to take me on a long walk just to spend some time with me because we are roommates, remember."
"I remember but you have to admit that the walk was fun," he said as a smile painted itself on his face.
"Maybe it was," I said back.
"I think you mean yes it was fun, Leon. What would I do without you Leon?" he asked dramatically grabbing the bottle of water beside him.
"I can't believe it!"
"What?" Leon asked. He quickly went from being childish to guarded. He scanned my whole body, checking if I was in some kind of pain.
"My roommate is cocky and arrogant." The moment I said those words Leon relaxed, though as soon as I saw the hurt in his eyes I wanted to take back my words.
"I'm not cocky and arrogan-" he began to say but got cut off by the phone ringing.
"Who is this? Now? How many there? Any injured? Any lives? Okay, I will be there in three minutes," Leon said into the phone.
"Where are you going?" I asked him as walked to the door.
"None of your business!" he snapped at me.
"Come on. I'm your roommate remember. I am supposed to help you when you need help and-"
"Listen you are a great girl and I'm quite sure you have good advice but I need to go now. I can't have a girl distracting me from something that is more important than her."
Leon pulled open the door and walked out. He slammed the door in my face without saying anything else.
I opened my mouth to say something but close it again. My body shocked from what just happened.
Something inside me crushed when I realized Leon told me that he had more important things than me, so I was not so important to him.
I shook my head of those thoughts and reminded myself that I only know this guy for less than two days.
I close my eyes to calm myself from everything that had happened today and told myself that I as I was tired I was letting negative thoughts into my mind.
I took off my shoes and quietly walked to my room. The door room silent, the only sound was my bare footsteps. I walked to my room and closed the door.
Too tired to take off my dress I switched off the switch to the light and walked over to my bed. My phone that was on the bedside table suddenly flashed. I picked it up and swiped the screen and saw that it was a picture from my mom.
I pressed onto the picture to enlarge it. As I read it a smile came over my face. I found it so fascinating that I said it to myself.
"You were given this life because you are strong enough to live it."
