Chapter 9 Dinner

"Kayla, Jake, dinners ready." My mom yelled up the stairs.

"Ok mom we'll be down in a sec." I yelled back to her. "We should probably go down." I said to Jake.

"Yeah." he said nodding. I got up and Jake followed. We went into the kitchen to find my parents setting up the table. I rushed to help. Jake got the bowl of green peas and brought it to the table and I brought the potatoes. Mom slid on the oven mitts and pulled the turkey out and brought it to the table. "Mrs. Metcalf,"

"Oh please call me Tabitha." She interrupted him

"Ok,"Jake said surprised, " I just wanted to say that this looks delicious."

"Why thank you Jake." She said sitting down.

"Your very welcome." He said as he sat next to me.  Wow I never imagined Jake as the polite type. He looked over at me and smiled. Crap I keep forgetting that he can read my mind. His smiled widened. My mom picked the knife up and sliced a slice of turkey off. She laid it on Jake's plate. She did the same to everyone else. I smiled, My mom always took care of everyone else before she took care of herself. That was one of her best qualities.  I joined hands with Jake and my mom to pray. My mom said "Thank you Father for this meal that you have , laid on the table. Thank you for giving my beloved daughter a person that will treat her right. And if he doesn't then forgive me for my actions." I heard Jake swallowing. "Amen. Well let's eat." she said.

After everyone finished eating, me and Jake went outside on the porch. "Your mom is an amazing cook. That turkey had some kind of special seasoning. It was delicious."

"Yeah I always did love her cooking." I said chuckling. Clearing my throat I said, "You know you didn't have to get me this necklace." I said gripping the necklace. "I mean don't get me wrong I love it but you didn't have to get it for me."

"I know I didn't have to but I wanted you to have something to remember me by."

"Why are you going somewhere?"

"No, but when we're not together I feel like I can't protect you. That necklace is magical, if you're in emotional or physical pain that necklace will send out an electrical charge that only the person that gave you the necklace can feel. So if you are in any sort of trouble than I can come and help. Even if its of the smallest task of just listening to what you have to say."His hand came up and he wiped away a tear that was running down my cheek. "Sorry I didn't mean to scare you. I hate it when you cry."

"Oh no, no, no. You misunderstand they're tears of joy. I didn't even realize I was crying until you wiped that tear away." I chuckled a little. I've never felt like this about anyone before. It scared me.
