The Rescue Mission
Tae absolutely despises this idea, but he has no choice but to go along with it.
Rescuing the little sister of the man who technically got them in this mess thanks to his parents isn't Tae's ideal way of getting Y/n to safety. Tae meant what he said: Jungkook can't choose his parents. But Tae's still a little upset about it. Not at Jungkook, more at the overall situation. He has this root in the pit of his stomach telling him that something bad will happen. He's not sure what, but he hopes that he's wrong.
When the four make it to Jungkook's house, they're not surprised to see cars out front. They're also not surprised to see the door is partly opened.
"Is this the part where we split up?" Jungkook asks, motioning to the two guards out front. "Jimin and Y/n take out the guards, Tae and I go in to get her?"
"Alright Jungkook I'm gonna need you to relax," Jimin says. Jungkook raises both his brows, which causes Jimin to sigh. "We're not in a horror movie. We don't need to be the dumb protagonists who split up when faced with danger. I'd personally feel better if we all stuck together. I don't want to risk losing Y/n or you. Got it?"
Y/n creeps over next to Jungkook, taking his hand. He gives her a squeeze that she smiles to. Tae would be lying if he said he wasn't jealous. It's rough watching his crush with another man, especially when Tae's not sure if he trusts Jungkook or not. It's hard to tell what his true intentions are. It's been months, so he should trust Jungkook, but it's bodyguard instinct to write him off as bad news.
"We need a plan, we can't go in guns blazing," Tae whispers.
"We can sneak around the back, see if anyone's lurking out there and stealth kill them," Jimin whispers back, making sure his pistol is fully loaded. "I don't have much backup ammo, only two mags. We'll have to focus on stealth and preserve bullets."
Tae nods in agreement. They didn't have a chance to prepare for this, but they're always supposed to be prepared for the unexpected.
"They'll have guards in the back too, they're not stupid, but hopefully it's a little more private back there," Tae mumbles.
Jimin then guides them around the entire block, staying far out of view. There are some civilians who look at their stealthy forms with perplexed expressions, but nothing else of note.
When they finally use enough shortcuts and alleyways, they reach the back of Jungkook's house. Tae's theory is correct: There are two guards waiting by the back door, one of them talking into their earpiece.
"We probably don't have much time. They're expecting us," Jimin says. "Jungkook, how smart is your sister?"
"Smarter than you."
"That's a low bar. Let's hope she'll know what to do when the time comes. Tae, you get the one on the left, I got the one on the right."
Tae goes stiff at that. "You want me to leave Y/n with Jungkook?"
"Okay, ouch." Jungkook pauses to groan. "Are we seriously still doing this? Have I not proved myself trustworthy?"
"You've proven nothing."
"I have a pistol and he has an injured shoulder," Y/n interrupts. "Not to mention I have training from the damn mafia. I'm sure I can handle it. Now go, before anything worse happens to Yuri. Each second we spend here is another she could be getting hurt."
Tae's eyes slightly widen at her bold words, then, he sighs and agrees. Y/n backs up from Jungkook albeit reluctantly, giving Tae a small peace of mind.
"We'll signal you in," Tae whispers before moving with Jimin.
They creep along the side of the fence, Jimin holding his knife. Tae cracks his knuckles and waits for Jimin to split off from him. Soon enough, they're both in position and give each other the gesture that means "go."
Tae hops the fence, the guard immediately noticing. However, Taehyung chokeholds him before he gets the chance to make a sound. Jimin already stabbed the other in the head and comes over to stab Tae's while he has the guard pinned.
"Good work," Jimin says, motioning to the hiding Jungkook and Y/n that it's clear.
Seconds later, they're sprinting, hopping over the fence and staying low.
"Alright, next plan: We don't know how many are inside. This is the part where we use our guns," Jimin explains, sheathing his knife and clicking off the safety to his pistol. "Stay stealthy for as long as possible. Jungkook, stay right by me, I need you to lead the way. Y/n, you've been here a few times, stay by Tae and help him with directions too. Let's move in and out."
The group all agree to Jimin's quick-thinking and are sure to remain as silent as possible while opening the back door. Tae gulps and holds his breath. This is it. Tae's sure that this will get them killed. There goes the case, more mafia running free. Poor Y/n's efforts will go to waste.
But Jimin has a good plan. Jimin's always been the unofficial leader of the whole damn witness protection program. Everyone fears him, but not in a bad way. He has amazing plans and strengths no one can match. Jimin would argue Tae's more skilled, of course. Tae always frowns whenever Jimin doesn't give himself enough credit. He doesn't see how special he is.
Regardless, the crew march into the home, their footsteps soft pitter-patters against the hard floor. The thing that scares Tae the most is the dead silence. Not a peep is heard from inside. Honestly, Tae would've been more comfortable if there was screaming. Screaming at least indicates that she's alive. That this isn't a trap and someone's here other than the guards.
Jungkook takes the lead, going into the kitchen and taking a knife much to Tae's dismay. Jimin and Y/n don't comment on it, so neither does Tae. Jungkook leads them to the back stairwell, more eerie silence hanging over them. When they finally go up the stairs, it creaks a few times (of course). Despite the creaks, no one comes. Jungkook goes pale for a few moments. Tae can't say he blames him, he's probably thinking the same thing Tae is: 'Where's all the noise?'.
They reach the second floor. Jungkook points to a white door and starts toward it. Tae follows, Jimin taking the end so Y/n isn't left vulnerable. Jungkook grabs the handle, Tae gripping his pistol tighter.
Please for the love of God let the kid be okay. That's the last thing anyone needs right now. She's only a tee-
'Bang!'
Tae ducks, as does Jungkook. Little gunshot holes form on the door. Holy shit that was close.
"Jungkook! It's a trap!" a female voice Tae assumes is Yuri's yells out.
Jungkook has the brain cells not to reply, instead gritting his teeth and letting Jimin take his spot. Tae and Jimin want to open fire, but they can't. If they do, they risk hitting Yuri. Y/n and Jungkook stay in the back, watching the stairs carefully. It's no surprise when guards start storming up.
Jimin whips around and fires, downing them before they get the chance to open fire. Tae turns to shoot the guards who were about to flank them by appearing from one of the closets. Tae huffs. They really hid for all that time just to die from Tae's hand.
He clenches his jaw, taking a risk and grabbing the door handle, throwing it open. Right away, more gunshots ring out, Tae going falling completely on the ground so no one hits his sitting form. The smaller he makes himself, the harder he is to hit.
Tae's partner finishes defending the stairs, making sure Y/n doesn't have to join in on the fight. Another thing no one needs right now: Y/n killing someone and hating herself for it.
A gun clicks, signaling Jimin and Tae to the empty magazine. They take a risk and peek, shooting the men they see, careful not to hit Yuri. She's sitting in the middle of the room, tied to a chair. Tae doesn't take the time to see how hurt she is. Not yet.
Once they start attacking, it's clear who has the upper hand. Tae charges, as does Jimin, and together, they finish off the remaining guards. There were only four inside, but they were enough to give Tae and Jimin a run for their money.
Tae pants as Jungkook walks in, groaning because of his shoulder, but Tae can tell Yuri's more important to him right now. Part of Tae admires Jungkook for that. The man got shot, but he's more worried about his baby sister.
Yuri cries as Jungkook kneels, and Jimin cuts her free. As soon as the ropes drop from her body, she falls into Jungkook's arms.
"I'm sorry," she says in a whimper. "They broke in and held me at gunpoint, I didn't know what to do... I-I didn't..."
Jungkook shushes her, cradling her gently. "It's okay, all that matters is you're safe. We're here. We have something to tell you, okay?"
She nods, and just like that, Y/n and Jungkook are explaining the whole situation to her.
Tae leans against the doorframe, staring at Jimin. His attention is on the kid. Tae's not sure why Jimin's staring so intensely at the girl, but he chooses not to question it. Taehyung ends up zoning out until he gets nudged by Y/n.
"How do we get to the airport?" she asks.
Tae recovers from his brief moment of peace and shakes her off. "I'm not entirely sure. We have a few options. One: Hotwire a car. Two: Take the alleyways there. Three: Cover up and hide in plain sight. No matter what option we choose, it's risky. I don't know if I feel like stealing some poor person's car, but we might not have an option."
"I like the blending in plan, if I get a say in it," Y/n says.
Jimin nods. "You do. Yeah, it could work. Definitely. Let's pretend we aren't on the run from the most dangerous mafia in the world. I love it."
Y/n glares at him, the man holding up his hands in defense.
"I'm being realistic. Blending in probably won't work. They were able to find us even when we were wearing disguises. It's most likely best to cover ourselves and take the back alleys," Jimin says.
"Isn't that exactly what they want though?" Yuri asks. "Get us in a place they can recognize us easier?"
"Sure, but if they recognize us in public, they'll kill everyone in our way. We'll be endangering dozens for our own benefit. That doesn't sit right with me," Jimin says.
Park Jimin. He'll always be the one wanting to save as many lives as possible.
"Can we ever come back to Korea?" Jungkook asks. "I have friends here. I don't want to leave them or my job."
"If the mafia gets taken out, then yeah. If not, then no. It'll be too big of a risk now that you're involved with us. Doesn't help that your parents are so big into it too," Tae says.
Yuri and Jungkook deflate at that, but they both know there's nothing they can do. Tae admires that they both don't complain about being told the reality of the situation. If the roles were reversed, Tae would be pissed.
Taehyung turns to Jimin. "I know you don't like it, but the disguise plan is the best one we have. We have access to all of Yuri and Jungkook's clothes. We'll do our best to avoid putting others in danger, you know that."
After a moment, Jimin sighs and agrees. He digs through Yuri's closet, rifling out clothes and throwing them to anyone who wants to catch them. Yuri doesn't even bat an eye.
"Before we go, check the dead guards for spare bullets," Tae says.
Jimin hums and does just that, not finding much since their pistol models don't match. Y/n and Yuri both cover up all their skin and even wrap scarves around their heads.
"Jungkook, mind sparing us some new clothes?" Jimin asks the man.
He nods right away, and they leave to go to Jungkook's room instead. As they make their journey to Jungkook's room, Y/n approaches Taehyung.
"Do you think we'll be okay?" she whispers.
Tae, although surprised she chose to speak to him, sighs and gently entwines her hand with his to give it what he hopes is a comforting squeeze.
"Honestly? I have no idea."
