Base & Breaks

My entire body was wracked with exhaustion. Each and every single one of my limbs were aching with a great intensity. It has been so long since I've felt this way, and I wanted nothing more than for all of the aching to completely dissipate. If this is what it felt like to stop fighting and then start again after three months then I probably would have never stopped in the first place. This feeling was pure torture. I couldn't let Ethan know that though; he'd use it against me and I'd probably wind up dying in the middle of the floor.
"Wow. You're a bit rusty, Kay," Ethan laughed as he blocked my kick with his arm. The two of us were currently at the Autobot base in the training room. Had it not been for Ethan's incessant ways I probably wouldn't even be here right now. I've been extra lazy nowadays, which is part of the reason I haven't been fighting in the past three months.
I growled in response to his words and kicked my leg at him again. My leg came in contact with his hip, and he grunted in pain before falling to the floor.
"Excuse me. I haven't exactly been down here in three slagging months. Give me a break, hotshot," I retorted as I took his hand and pulled him up from the ground.
"I take that back," he huffed.
He walked away from me and over to his bag. He took out two bottles of water and tossed me one. I caught it and wasted no time at all in chugging down the clear contents. We spent almost an hour fighting today, and this was the first time I've had something to drink since. I downed mine in seconds, and even thought about stealing Ethan's from him, but that would have been rather rude of me.
Ethan looked over at me once he was finished with his water and made a disgusted face as he looked me up and down. I rolled my eyes. This bitch. . .
"You're so sweaty. It's disgusting," he remarked.
Tell me something I don't know, dumbass. I could literally feel it all over my body. My black workout pants were doused with my body sweat, and my pink sports bra was as well. Not to mention that my face was soaked, but that was kind of what happened when you did stuff like this.
"That's kind of what happens after you physically exert yourself," I countered.
He chuckled and sat down on the bench, and I followed closely behind him.
"So, I hear you have a new friend. A new boy friend as a matter of fact," he smirked, taking another sip of his water.
I made a face. "And who told you that?"
"Have you forgotten that our moms are friends and two of the most talkative people in the world?"
"I should have known."
"Yeah. So what's his name?" he inquired with that stupid smirk on his face.
"Nathan, and he is not my boyfriend!" I exclaimed.
"Wow, someone seems a bit grumpy today," I heard a voice say from behind us. I turned around almost immediately to see Bumblebee's holoform walking into the training center.
"Hey, Bee," I smiled.
He returned it and walked over to sit beside the two of us. "What are you two talking about?"
"Kaelyn's new boyfriend Nathan," Ethan answered before I could even open my mouth.
I groaned and smacked him on the arm. "Shut the hell up. He is not my boyfriend. I don't even like him like that," I tried to assure him, but the heating up of my cheeks betrayed me and Ethan seemed to love that.
"Aw, look! You're blushing!"
The next thing I knew, my face was being grabbed by a large hand with calloused fingers very similar to that of my dad's. Bumblebee's bright blue eyes seemed to get brighter as he studied my face and I only frowned. Why did they have to make fun of me?
"How precious. My little Kaelyn is in love," he cooed, shaking my head gently.
I let out a childish whine before pulling out of his grasp. "I'm not in love. Gosh, shut up." That time I didn't blush, thankfully.
"Sure, sure," Bumblebee smirked.
I shook my head at the both of them. About five seconds later my phone began to rang loudly, but before I could even get it out of my bag Ethan grabbed it. He laughed loudly when he saw that the caller was in fact Nathan, and I did my best to get the phone out of his grasp.
"Ethan, give me the phone!" I yelled at him.
He got up and I ran after him, and just as he was about to answer the phone I tackled him to the floor. There was no way I was going to let my idiot best friend embarrass me. I quickly grabbed the phone out of his hand and answered it.
"Hello?"
"Hey, Kay. Why do you sound so out of breath?" he laughed.
"Oh. I just finished working out. What do you need, Nate?" I replied as nicely as I could. It was kind of hard to even think with Ethan wriggling beneath me, and I highly doubted my weight would hold him for long.
"I was just calling to ask if you would possibly want to come to dinner at my house tomorrow night? I've been talking about you to my parents and they're literally dying to meet you," he laughed. It was a nervous laugh from what I could make of it.
"Yeah, sure. I would love that," I smiled, smacking Ethan in the face as he tried to push me off of him.
"Alright, cool. I'll see you tomorrow, beautiful."
And the fluttering continues.
"Alright. Bye, Nate," I parted before ending the call.
I quickly got off of Ethan and ran towards the bench, but before I could reach it I was being tackled to the ground. A very sharp pain traveled up the length of my arm, and I let out a loud, involuntary scream in response to it. Ethan quickly got off of me and stood up, while all I did was lay there and focused on the pain in my wrist. Bumblebee rushed over seconds later, and I finally got up enough strength to sit up.
The moment I laid eyes on my arm I nearly collapsed. I was no medic, but it definitely was not supposed to look like it did.
"Why does it look like that?" I asked. My injured arm was trembling, and I could already see it starting to swell up. The pain was only getting greater as well, and I could feel the warm tears trailing down my face. The soreness in the rest of my body did not compare to this.
"It looks like it may be broken," Bumblebee muttered.
My eyes widened. Broken? It couldn't be broken! Do you not know how excruciatingly difficult it is to break one of my metallic bones?
"It hurts; it hurts so bad. Please do something! Somebody do something! It hurts!" I exclaimed as I stared at my deformed wrist.
Before I knew it I was being lifted. It didn't take me long to realize that Bumblebee had picked me up and was now carrying me through the base. I could only assume he was going to find Ratchet.
"I am so sorry, Kay. I didn't think you'd actually hurt yourself," Ethan said from beside Bumblebee. I only whined in response; I was far too focused on how to get this pain to somehow disappear. It was truly the worst pain I've ever experienced.
"Ratchet!" Bumblebee called as he walked into the main hangar.
I could hear the sound of several different pairs of footsteps coming toward us; one pair in particular was just a bit more rushed than the others.
"What happened?" my father's voice sounded. The next thing I knew I was being shifted, and there was no doubt in my mind that he had taken me out of Bumblebee's hold.
"I'm almost positive that Ethan broke her wrist," Bumblebee answered.
"Dude!"
"What did you do?" my dad grumbled as he began walking. My eyes were beginning to close from exhaustion, and I was more than thankful that the numbness had finally found its way into my body.
"I kind of tackled her," Ethan said rather nervously. My dad only growled in response and continued walking.
"Lay her down," Ratchet instructed my dad.
Soon enough I felt my back hit a cold surface, and I knew then that I was on his little medical table.
"Um, she seems to be going into shock," Ratchet spoke.
"What?" my dad exclaimed shortly after. He was angry.
"She's going into shock. I can only assume that she didn't handle the sight of the break very well. I need to put it back in place," Ratchet spoke quickly. I could feel as his cool hands found their way onto my wrist, but I wasn't particularly worried about it. I was only getting more and more tired as the seconds passed by.
The tiredness didn't last long though. The second Ratchet popped my wrist back in to place I let out another loud scream. The pain from this was worse than the pain I felt when it broke in the first place.
"No, stop! It hurts," I cried. I was not good with pain, obviously.
My dad wasted no time in sitting down beside me and wrapping his arms around me. I leaned my head into his chest and cried while Ratchet continued whatever it was that he was doing. I whimpered as I felt a needle prick my arm. It didn't take long for the tiredness to come back after that either.
"Daddy," I whispered as I closed my eyes.
I felt him rubbing my arm in a comforting notion, and even with all of the pain I was in I managed to find some comfort in it.
"You're going to be okay, Kaelyn. I'm here," he assured me.
A kiss on the top of my head was the last thing I felt before I drifted off into darkness.
