Prologue Draft (TEASER WARNING)
The warning is for those who don't want any spoilers whatsoever, but this is only a draft and probably won't be what appears on the final book. All of the characters and names shown are final unless grammatically corrected later on. The teaser's below!
From the point of view of the main character of the second book, Moon that shines at Midnight (Midnight Moon):
Black feathered dragons. The kingdoms knew them as nothing but that, vicious as any other dragon. Only in fairytales were they known as descendants of darkness, but fairytales were the truth. Midnight knew that. She knew that stars trembled beneath her feathers, and the forests bowed in her wake. She knew her ancestry, of all things.
Midnight was the eldest of her siblings, and the oldest of the generation. Of Dawn, Morning, Afternoon, Evening and Dusk. But she, despite her ancestor's curse, was not the one who would get to bring around the world of death again.
Instead, on this night, Morning would be declared the blackest among darkness, and she would bring the shadows forth and claim back their home. Midnight scowled as she watched the elder land on his perch, below the great cliff where their ancestors declared war upon the goddesses.
"On the night of this full moon, only one does not shine, only one invisible among daylight and moonlight alike." The elder declared, his voice raspy from his age. "Behold, the Moth which flies in the Morning!"
A short little dragon stepped out from behind the elder, spreading her wings as she sat down. Midnight remembered how the little dragon had a coat of stars and twinkly amber eyes, but that was not the dragon before her now. Now, on the ledge, where was once her sister sat a shadow with amber eyes that no longer shone.
Midnight took a deep breath and assured herself that her feathers were the night itself, as her namesake was.
And because I like spoiling things here's all of her siblings;
Clouds that fly at Dawn (Dawn Clouds, Dawn)
Moth which flies in the Morning (Morning Moth, Morning)
Afternoon of birds' Song (Afternoon Song, Noon)
Star that shines during the Evening (Evening Star, Eve)
Dusk when leaves Fall (Dusk Fall, Dusk)
Two of them have names of old ocs (which I will be making similar) if you know them-
