Ada jumped over the fence with her heart thumping so fast. She literally looked like a thief. Her hands touched the interlockings in the compound and she heaved a sigh of relief.

“Ada, w–what are you doing? Do you know that you are breaking into someone's home?" Osaze whispered.

Ada rolled her eyes, “No, I don't know that I'm breaking inside someone's house. "

Ada groaned at his stupidity. She was slowly finding him less attractive.

“This is not the time to joke around, Ada." Osaze replied.

“Neither is the time for you to give me a fatherly pep talk. Do you want to come or not?" Ada asked him.

“Why won't I follow you? What if something bad happens to you?" Osaze whispered again.

“Just jump the fence and stop talking!" Ada suddenly retorted.

“I hope...you know what you are doing." Osaze sighed.

Ada put her left hand on her waist and reached out for her pistol. She hoped in her heart that she was ready for anything that awaited her.

Flashback

Aderonke rocked her head to the side as she enjoyed the music played from the radio while in traffic. Her hands danced with delight on the steering wheel and her mind was filled with happiness. A shrill and shy voice brought her back to the present and she turned her head slightly and with a calm voice spoke.

"Ehn?"

“Can't I go to Dubai with you on Monday?" Bimbo asked with her eyes literally begging.

Aderonke raised a brow, “Why? You can just spend the holidays with your dad...at home"

“I know but can't I go with you at least? I really want to spend time with you." Bimbo continued, her brows knitting in disappointment.

“I am not going to Dubai for holidays. I'm going there to buy goods. What's your obsession with wanting to go abroad? This is not the first time you have asked me about this and you know you have exams in five months. Are you serious with your life, Bimbo?" Aderonke began to nag.

“But----"

“There's no but. What are you doing there to do? You just want me to spoil you unnecessarily and I won't. Focus on your education. Maybe when you get all As in your WAEC. I'll probably consider." Aderonke chuckled lightly.

“You know that's not possible, mummy. Just say you don't want to." Bimbo raised her shoulders in defeat.

“Or maybe you have a weak mentality telling that you can't succeed.God knows where you got those genes from because it's definitely not from me." Aderonke rolled her eyes dramatically.

“And it's also not from dad. Are you implying that I'm not your child?" Bimbo's lips curved into a sad grin.

Aderonke nearly choked as she tried to regain her composure, “Of course, you're my child. I...gave birth to you."

“Really?"

“Of course." Aderonke twisted her neck to smile at her daughter but Bimbo had suddenly fixed her ear piece into her ear, desperate not to listen to her mother anymore.

Aderonke quickly took the cue and assumed it as teenage hormones. The traffic suddenly dwinlded and the cars were alive once more on the road. Aderonke heaved a sigh of relief. But what she failed to realize was the salty tears Bimbo was trying to wipe away.

Bimbo knew. She knew she wasn't her mother's daughter.

Aderonke covered her quivering lips with her hands as she recollected memories she had tried to bury. She thought that Bimbo was making ridiculous demands, now has realized what she actually wanted. Bimbo wanted to escape and she trapped her.

She was the one who trapped her own daughter. Bimbo gave her signs by asking for her utmost attention but Aderonke never listened. She made Wale take Bimbo shopping, she made sure that Wale attended all the PTA meeting. She rarely picked Bimbo except she was in a good mood.

She ignored her daughter's pleas for freedom. Her heart ached and her eyes suddenly turned defiant and angry with pain.

“R-Ronke, y-you won't rattle me out to the police, would you? I have done so much for you and........"

“Why do you keep repeating that, Wale? Why? Why the hell did you do that? Why did you do that to Bimbo? At least...you should have treated her like your own daughter. Why are you so devilish?" Aderonke twirled the gun in her arm.

“But she's not my daughter..." Wale's voice began to waver again, “Neither is she yours.    "

“I curse myself. I curse myself for marrying you, Adewale. You are the beginning of my misery." Aderonke bit her bottom lip as she tried to hold back her tears, “I-I refused to accept that my own husband... would do it. I tried to... believe that it wasn't you...."

“Your mother made you miserable... not me. Is it so hard for you to understand that you are nothing without me? Would you prefer to have me in jail and you become an outcast or we can just move on and be the happy couple we always were." Wale's lip moved with a sync that Aderonke was beginning to loathe.

“The fact that you're not even sober makes me want to dump all these bullets into your skull but I won't." Aderonke said.

“What do you expect me to do, Ronke? Beg and cry or what? You will never understand  me. You won't reason with me." Wale shrugged as he regained his composure.

“Why should I reason with the devil? Why should I reason with a liar and a murderer?"  Aderonke's eyes sparkles with glowing anger.

“Devil? I'm a devil for marrying a common prostitute?" Wale sniggered.

Aderonke gasped at Wale's ignorant audacity. She reached out for the gun lying lazily on the dinning table. She knew terrible things would happen if he could lay his hand on it first. Her mind couldn’t help but paint graphic images of blood and despair. Then her hand was on the gun, his hand on hers, a stinging pain as she gasped for air, the bone of her wrist cracking, the gun flying through the air and landed far away, seating helplessly at a corner of the living room.

Aderonke gasped and was about to sprint when she felt warm hands encircle her neck and her eyes grew bloodshot when Wale pinned her to the dinning table with his muscular arm and all Aderonke could think of was why she never worked out in the gym like he did every day.

“S-Scum...You a-are the d-devil." Aderonke managed to speak as she could feel life draining out of her. Her eyes searched helplessly for a glass cup or a knife, anything to get her away from this mad man.

Anything to make her breathe in peace.

“Did you really think I would... allow you have a edge over me? Wale chuckled as he fanned warm air over Aderonke “And yes, I killed Bimbo. It was me. I stabbed her to death. That brat. Even though you and her share no pint of blood. I still wonder how you're concerned about a girl that was never yours to begin with. I...never raped..her. She lusted after me and I simply gave in to her advance."

“Stupid woman. You will die tonight and then everything else can go back to how it was. I-I won't allow you to ruin the reputation I struggled to build. I won't allow you to dent my image." Wale chuckled like a maniac as his muscular hands pressed tightly on Aderonke's neck.

Aderonke's legs began to shake in terror as her eyes began to droop slowly. Her face began to turn into a sickening color as her sight started to close in on her. Is this what dying felt like? His hands were grasping at her throat, leaving her without air. She clawed her fingers at his hands uselessly and used her last breath to scream for help.

Where was that incompetent detective?

What do you think about this chapter?
Intense right?

I kind of made Wale and Aderonke look like Hera and Zeus. This chapter was inspired by Greek mythology!
