XIX -- Quirk

A pale golden light appeared from the bleeding wound on Aoi's left foot. Then the wound started closing, and it did not take a while for her foot to completely heal. Only the traces of blood were left from her foot. There was not even a single scratch.

Atom Manipulation: Aoi's ability to control and manipulate atoms voluntarily or involuntarily. This includes the ability to regenerate her injured body parts by manipulating the atoms to create new cells in her body-Self-Healing. It was not the first time I have seen this, but this familiar scene was something I hope to never see again.

"Shou-kun, are you okay?"

"Ah-"I looked up at her. "I'm f-fine."

"Are you sure?" Her golden eyes were full of concern "I've been calling your name a lot of times already but you were spacing out."

"Yeah. I'm just...surprised..." Then I looked down at her feet once again.

"Me too. It's my Quirk isn't it? I have seen this when Shin shared my memories but it's the first time I've seen this for real! It's good news, right?"

"....Yeah." I smiled gently.

No, Aoi...it's not. If your Quirk is back then that means that you will never be safe. And the villains would do whatever it takes to get you back again. He will do whatever it takes to get you.

"I'm going to get the broom and the dust pan." I stood up towards the space between the fridge and kitchen, where a small plastic broom and dust pan were placed.

"I can't believe it Shou-kun! My Quirk is back." Aoi beamed as warm as the sun, but her happy tone burned me painfully inside.

"Congrats." I took the broom and dust pan and faced Aoi again. She looked incredibly happy. I swallowed my saliva, which felt like taking in hot corrosive acid, then continued on keeping a smile. I don't want her to feel uneasy again now that she's finally happy.

Then the door of the house suddenly opened. We both looked at it and saw a black-haired young man with white long sleeve shirt and black pants.

"Shin! I have my Qui-what happened to you!?" Aoi exclaimed when she saw Kuroiwa soaked with rain from the top of his head to the soles of his feet.

He wiped his face and swept his hair back, revealing his metallic silver eyes.

"I had a hard time closing the gate, tehee!" He smiled in a carefree manner, while winking and giving a peace sign similar to a pose of a girl.

"What's with that 'tehee'?!" Aoi yelled. Kuroiwa only laughed at her reaction.

"If you had a hard time, you could've just told me. I could use my Quirk to close the gate." Aoi sighed.

"You're Quirk is not complete yet, you know. You can heal yourself if you're injured but you can't control objects yet." Kuroiwa explained.

"So you knew all along?" My eyes narrowed at Kuroiwa. He looked at me. Why didn't you tell me?

"Four days ago, she was injured when she slammed her hand against the mirror. But it healed a little bit faster than a normal injury." He shrugged. "But you didn't notice that 'cause you didn't go to see her."

I wanted to say something but I found myself clenching my jaw. He turned to Aoi, while I went back to cleaning the mess. I swept the shards of glass along with the soba noodles. Then I took an extra towel from the shelf and wiped the soup spilled on the floor.

"But since your injury today healed a lot more quickly than the last, you might be able to use your Telekinesis once again in more or less than a week."

Aoi's eyes sparkled, "Really?!" She looked really happy.

"You look really happy." Kuroiwa commented, reading my thoughts. Her eyes widen.

Aoi scratched her cheek, "I-Is it that obvious?" She replied shyly. Her cute demeanor made Kuroiwa chuckle.

"Anyway Aoi, you need to go upstairs and take a bath now."

"The same goes for you, Shin." Aoi stated, narrowing her eyes. She eyed Kuroiwa from head to toe. "You're really soaked..."

"I'll get a towel upstairs-"

"No, no! You'll wet the floor. I'll get it."

Before Kuroiwa could take a step, Aoi stopped him and she ran upstairs to get the towel. I finished wiping the mess, and stood up. Then, Aoi who was running up the stairs, stopped her steps, and ran back.

"Uh...Shin, where did you put your bath towel?"

"Hm? It's in my wardrobe, together with my underwear-"

"Liar!" She screamed.

"How can you tell?" He tilted his head. "Have you explored my wardrobe?"

"Ugh..! I-you know that's not true!"

"Hahahaha, there's no need to blush. Shou-kun would think how cuter you've become. "

"!!" Her eyes widen. Aoi's pinkish blush spread on her whole face and turned cherry red.

She faced me suddenly. It was my turn to get shocked. She really does look cute, too adorable even that I couldn't help but turn away, in order not to turn my face into a tomato.

"U-ugh...I'm going!" She announced then I heard her strong stomping steps going back upstairs. Kuroiwa laughed heartily at Aoi's reaction. I, on the other hand, sighed and made sure there were no shards of glass left on the floor before finally sit down on the dining seat.

Aoi looked really happy. I don't want to ruin that happiness so it's better not to tell her more details of the situation, unless she asks for it. And besides, Kuroiwa would share her the information sooner or later.

"That's the plan, huh..? It's alright, I guess." Kuroiwa muttered softly. I glanced at him. And he was still standing a few steps away from the entrance, where he was standing all along. His metallic eyes were looking at me seriously.

"Yeah. We must not pressure her. She must not feel that she's in danger." I stated in my thoughts. Kuroiwa nodded.

Then we heard footsteps coming down the stairs. The pale-blue haired girl appeared in my sight as she walked to the black haired young man. She threw the black towel at him, but he caught it with a grateful smile.

"Thanks a lot, Aoi!" He gratefully spoke.

"Hmph! You're not welcome!" Aoi turned her back at him and went back upstairs.

Seeing Aoi with different emotions is really making me glad. However, I can't help but feel annoyed she's making those sorts of emotions because of Kuroiwa.

"It's not because of me." Kuroiwa muttered again.

"What?" I asked.

He placed the towel on top of his head, and wiping his soaked face. "That adorable look only comes out when I tease Aoi about you. She likes you after all."

What he said made my chest feel warm, but at the same time, it felt tight and heavy.

"Now, don't feel guilty about it, Shou-kun. I know you don't deserve it but what can I do?" Kuroiwa's voice echoed. He was already at the door of the bathroom. "Aoi really loves you."

Kuroiwa was talking about Aoi. But instead of seeing the pale blue-haired girl I could see a young lady with jet black hair and onyx eyes. Inside my mind, she was smiling. Her smile made my heart clench so tight. My eyes started to sting.

"I miss her too, you know...so damn much." Kuroiwa painfully whispered. Hearing him empathize made me confused. He sounded like he lost something irreplaceable and precious.

I looked at his face and saw his expression. He looked so dazed and empty. When he noticed me looking staring at him, his expression changed to a bitter smile.

"Anyway, I have to commend you for today, Shouto." He congratulated.

His words made me frown in suspicion.

"Now don't be suspicious hahaha" He raised both of his hands, chuckling. "It's just that your judgment on your decisions today are way better than it was before.

It seems like you're no longer selfish, Todoroki Shouto."

"Wha-"But before I could as anything about it, he already entered the bathroom and shut the door.

AOI

I finally finished taking a long relaxing bath, and changed into my pajamas. Then I lay down my bed and listened to the wind blowing happily since the rain disappeared.

I stretched out my hand towards the ceiling. My Quirk is back and it's still pretty overwhelming. Shin said that it would take a while to be complete but I'm happy. At least from now on, I won't be useless anymore. I would be able to protect myself.

I rolled around my bed excitedly.

Waaah~ I can't wait to remember everything. If that happens then I finally have all the answers and not feel confused anymore.

I should sleep. Yeah, I should. I can't wait for tomorrow!

...

...

...

I can't sleep... Ugh, it's probably because I had been sleeping the whole time. I scratched my head in frustration, messing my hair. Then I went out of bed. A milk should be able to help me sleep again, right? I went out of my room.

Then a scratching sound echoed. It sounded like something scraping on a blade. I looked around and saw Shin's room with its door opened. My curiosity moved my feet towards his room. There I saw him. He was sitting on his bed with the ankle on his one leg resting on his other lap. His obsidian hair was wet but his black sweater and jogging pants were dry and fresh. The darkness of his clothes and hair made his snow white skin a shade whiter. It seemed like he just finished taking a bath. The black towel he used was hanging on a hanger area near his wardrobe.

On his lap was a long sword he's holding, and on his other hand was a whetstone. The sound I heard was him, sharping that sword. His window was open and the wind blowing the curtains gave the moonlight a chance to enter the room. The light hit the sword giving it a mystifying gleam that reflected on Shin's silver eyes.

From this point of view, it would not be an exaggeration to say the Shin's eyes were glowing, making it enigmatically beautiful. Even though he was holding a sword, he looked really peaceful. Each time he stroke it with the whetstone, seemed like he's releasing all the stress he accumulated throughout the day.

"If you stare at me like that, I'll melt you know?" My eyes widen when I realized what I have done. He had stopped sharpening the sword, and was staring at me.

"I-I'm sorry, it's not I like I w-was-"

"I know, idioot~" He stuck out his tongue.

Ugh, how could I forget? This guy is freaking annoying.

"I just can't sleep. I'm going downstairs now." I turned my back on him.

"I know something that can help you sleep, you know~"

"I don't need your help, you know?" I retorted, walking towards the stairs.

"Ok then. That reminds me of something...Ah yeah, you should go downstairs now. That way, when your drinking hot milk or tea, you can see Shouto going out of the bathroom fresh and-"

"W-what is it that can help me sleep?" I turned around and walked towards Shin. My face felt sizzling hot.

"Hahahaha come here, come here hahaha" Shin laughed while gesturing me to get inside the room.

I went inside. Then he sheathed the long sword with a white scabbard and placed it beside him.

"What is it? Tell me already-" My words stopped when his hand grabbed my arm swiftly, yet gently.

I lost my balance and fell towards him. He held my cheek. His moonlight eyes stared deeply into my sunlight ones.

"This..." I felt his lips against mine,

And then everything went pitch black.
