Chapter 1
Skyla
I remember when I was a child, I was playing with a boy from another village. His name was...
"Tai! C'mon, let's go play in our hideout in Hukani Falls!"
I tossed him a stick as he seems nervous about the whole ordeal. "Wait, are you scared? Tai the Scaredy cat!"
Tai said, trying to remain cool, "Me, afraid? No, I'm not!"
"Then try to catch me, you slowpoke!" I yelled as I used the stick to cross over the ice bridge to our hangout, Hukani Falls.
"Hey, that's not fair, Sky, you got a head start!" He said, as he tries to catch up to me.
We were crossing, having fun but then something happened.
Tai's stick make a crack which I realize that he couldn't swim as I can.
"Tai!" I cried as he was drowning in the water, and I couldn't leave him there.
I dived into the water, as I managed to save him from the cold water below.
I made a fire to keep ourselves warm.
Tai was scared as he stays close to the fire. I knew I have to make him felt better.
That was when I noticed the amulet that my mother has given me before she passed away.
I pulled the necklace off and placed it towards my best friend.
"Tai, I want you to have this. It's my gift to you. That way we can remember each other. " I said, which made him smile.
He picks up the twig nearby as I gasp of what he had drawn into the wall. I gasp as I saw the picture of us together as a memory.
Then as we looked at the drawing, lights appeared, knowing it was the Great Spirits watching over us from above.
"Whoa." We exclaimed, so in awe of the Great Spirits as they changed the seasons and shone a light beaming through Tai's necklace.
"Tai! We have to leave now!" His father had called him.
"Goodbye, Sky." He said, as I punched him lightly on the shoulder as he went to greet his father.
"Bye, Tai! " I said, loudly, but I felt sad that he had to leave so soon.
"Bye Tai." My voice echoes as I mutter in my sleep.
I woke up from the dream. I never thought of having a dream about my childhood. It felt so real, like a distant memory I've forgotten long ago.
As I was lost in thought, I realized that I wasn't alone.
"So, who is Tai?" Hiccup asks, looking directly at me with curious eyes.
"Hiccup!" I exclaimed at my brother.
"You really got me worried there. You were saying Tai's name over and over. So, who is Tai?"
That's when I grew embarrassed of the situation, mostly because I haven't mention most of my childhood to Hiccup.
"Ooh. Um, Tai was my childhood friend I've known... when I was a human."
The dragon was surprised of what I've said.
"Oh. What happened to him? Did you ever seen him again?" Hiccup asks me.
"I haven't seen him since I transformed. It was a long time ago, Hiccup. I guess that he has forgotten all about me. My personal option, is that he must have grown up."
I replied as we continued on our way.
Tai
I was nervous. I'm getting married today.
I put on the wedding outfit that my father had worn on his wedding day.
"You look like I used to be, on my wedding day." My dad said.
"Thanks, Dad." I said, but I missed my mother, she passed away a few weeks before my wedding and she would've been proud of what I've become.
I also missed my best friend, Skyla. She doesn't contact me through her village anymore, which me felt curious of why.
Eric was also invited, but he knew something about her.
"Hey, man. Thanks for inviting me." He said.
"Eric, do you know what ever happened to Skyla? I haven't heard from her for six years!" I said.
Eric gulps, as telling the truth about his sister is overwhelming.
"Well...." He began to say, but the music started the ceremony.
As I walked towards my bride, my father stops, and said, "Great Spirits of Valhalla, we join together to mark this man and woman as one.
We hope this pleases you."
My bride was smiling as I was about to take her hand, a storm come towards us, which Eric and the rest of the village were surprise of the Spirits' reaction.
A lighting bolt jolted and it causes an earthquake as Eric yelled, "Tai!"
I was stumbled into the ground, as I gasped in total surprise that the Spirits didn't approve the marriage.
I panted as Eric helps me up.
"You all right, man?" He asks me.
"Yeah, but I don't understand." I said, looking at him. Why did the Spirits did that?
Eric said, "I think it's best we go to Gothi. She can help you with your problem."
Gothi was inside her hut. "Come in." She said.
"Gothi, Eric said that you can help me." I said.
"Yes, indeed I can, Tai. Now, let's hear what the Spirits have to say, shall we?"
Voices were heard as I was nervous and ask, "What they say?"
"Quiet, it's not all about you! They say, you can't marry that girl!" She said, whacking me with her stick.
I groan in pain, "What? Why they say that?"
"Because you already paired up, Mister two-timer." She replied.
"Wait, all ready matched up, to whom?" I ask.
"To the one who gave this." Gothi replied, revealing the amulet that Sky had given me so long ago.
"Skyla?" I ask in disbelief.
"The dragon girl? Whoa, I thought I see everything!" The Elder exclaimed, smirking.
Wait, did Gothi say that Sky was a dragon?!?
Gothi nods at my shock as she shown me the Ancestral moral wall.
I looked at what the Ancestors left behind. Eric told me that it was their way of remembering their families who weren't there anymore.
That was when I saw something that shocked me.
There was a dragon paw print within the mural.
How could a dragon be with peace with humans?
Eric said, "That paw print belonged to a Razorwhip. That is because Skyla is that dragon."
I looked at him as if he was crazy.
"No, Eric, you can't say that. I mean, that seems-" I began to say as I begin to let it sink in.
Could what Gothi say is true? Could Skyla, my childhood best friend is a dragon?
"Look, even if I see Skyla, how would I speak to her? I haven't seen her in six years and if what you say is true, she wouldn't understand me!"
Gothi said, "Maybe this would help you solve that problem."
She used some magic from the Spirits and I breath in shock.
"Don't you worry. You will be able to speak to her in her language." The Elder explains.
Eric said, "I'm so sorry that I can't be any more help, Tai.
But this journey was meant for you and my sister alone. Good luck and tell her I said hi for me, will ya?"
I nodded, "Will do."
Now I have to do is find Skyla. Would she ever recognize me even though we're different species?
