t e n | Drowned
The water was cold. So frick'n cold. It was like being bathed in ice. It made me feel numb and I couldn't stop shivering, I squinted, the water was uncomfortable on my eyes but it was okay.
All I could see was water. It was dark but Zane seemed to navigate just fine. I clung on, ignoring my shivering body and my clothes sticking to my skin. I had left my bag in Zane's mech so I'm totally changing after.
My lungs were beginning to strain but I could take it. Until something grabbed me. I let out a scream as I was yanked back. Someone had pulled my arms behind my back but I was not going to get kidnapped right now.
A hand went for my mouth but I but hard and smashed my head back into the face.
I could hear cursing through the sound of the person breathing through the oxygen tank but when I tried to move away another person pulled me back.
I saw Zane spin around and go swimming towards me as the mysterious people yelled when he threw a shuriken at them.
"Tie her to the tether before he gets here." I heard the one restraining me say.
Oh god.
I kicked and thrashed, successfully landing a blow at ones crotch but they managed to wrap seem sort of heavy chain to my wrist. I called them names that Nana would not like whatsoever.
Water filled my mouth and I snapped it closed when my oxygen began to run out. Zane appeared just as the attackers fled. He gripped the chain and yanked it, only managing to sprain my wrist, making me cry out.
He looked panicked as I fought to hold on, my lungs burning. He took a shuriken and began to slice it across the chains. It made a decent cut in the chain but time was running out.
I did a small intake of water and began coughing. Fear gripped me when I couldn't inhale any oxygen and water filled it lungs. I could hear Zane talking to me but I was barely aware of what was going on when suddenly his eyes lit up. Now like happy lit up but like a light bulb.
I was losing consciousness and my brain was loopy but I could've sworn opened up a panel in his arm and tapped a few buttons before pressing his mouth against mine.
Hold crap, what the...?
Air filled my mouth as I breathed in oxygen. My eyes fluttered closed and the last thing I saw was those glowing blue eyes....
****
I sputtered and my eyes flew open as I jerked straight up. I was frantic as I tried to figure out where the heck I was.
"Don't worry Gwendolyn, you are in safe hands, I suggest you relax and lay back down." A familiar voice said calmly.
I whipped my head around to face him. I was in...someone's bed and Zane was seated in a chair beside me. I tried to speak but all I got was a croak.
Zane stood and handed me a cup. It was some clean water and I quickly chugged it.
"Where are we? What happened? Also why the heck do your eyes glow?" I yelled as soon as my throat was smooth.
Zane winced and a soft laughter drifted from the door. I turned to see the blonde boy from the restaurant leaning against the door frame.
"You're at my parents apartment, in my room." The boy answered. He shrugged off the frame and stepped over.
He stuck his hand. "I'm Lloyd, Lloyd Garmadon."
I took it awkwardly. "Apparently someone grabbed you when trying to escape through the water channel and you almost drowned." Lloyd explained, sitting down on a rather large stack of pillows. "My mom's a nurse so Zane and Uncle Wu brought you here."
"Huh." Was all I could say. "Drowning...fun."
Then I looked at Zane. "So about those glowing eyes..."
Lloyd suddenly stood and made his way out if the room.
Zane sighed and leaned back in the chair. "I'm...not human." He said finally.
My eyes widened. "Are you serious?"
Zane gave a dry chuckle. "Yes, very. I am a Nindroid to be exact, a word crafted by Jay.
"So...you're a robot?" I questioned.
He looked down at his feet then back at me. "Yes, I am a robot."
"That is...crazy." I stared at him.
He shrugged.
"Can...you do something Nindroid-y?"
He blinked. "This isn't some form of humour is it?" I shook my head.
"Well...." He gently teased his hand through a small slit in his shirt and opened up some sort of panel over his heart. I gasped when a blue glowing circle appeared.
I reached my hand out and gently grazed my finger over it, staring in awe.
Suddenly my brow creased when I recalled the last events. "Did you kiss me?"
Zane suddenly went a little red, could nindroids blush? "I, myself, do not need oxygen whereas you do. I have a emergency supply of oxygen but the only way I can transfer it to another is by of course activating it and then giving the recipient mouth to mouth."
"Ah..." I think my face was turning a little pink as well.
He swallowed. "Well, though you just woke up I believe we should get rest soon, it is getting late. Koko is making dumplings if you need any food before hand."
"Mmm." I slid out if the bed. My legs felt like jelly as I swayed. Zane steadied me before helping me take a few unsteady steps. He guided me through the apartment and we entered a kitchen.
A ginger haired women was servicing food, Lloyd helping by pouring milk and a auburnette sat at the table talking with....
"Four armed dude!" I said in excitement.
The man with the pitch black skin glanced up. His red eyes confused. He blinked. "Oh you're that random girl looking for cheap food."
"So you know Gwen?" Lloyd asked.
The man shrugged and shoved a dumpling in his mouth.
"Gwen, this is Koko," The ginger women gave me a smile. "And I see you know Garmadon."
He continued eating. "And Lloyd's girlfriend Reagan."
She smiled. "Hello." Lloyd set her milk glass down and sat at the bar.
"Would you like some dinner?" Koko asked.
"Yes please!" I said enthusiastically.
After eating Reagan and Lloyd left to go to their home. When I asked about it Garmadon laughed and labeled it "just a student home" so I'm not sure what that meant.
Zane allowed me the bed claiming he didn't even need sleep much less a perfectly good bed. Garmadon and Koko went to bed.
"Where's Wu?" I asked Zane as he handed me my bag he had retrieved.
"He'll be here tomorrow." He promised vaguely.
I frowned but rummaged through my bag taking out my phone. I checked my messages and found some texts from my friends and Riley asking if I were okay and about fifty voicemails from dad.
I sighed and ignored it before texting back the others.
"Who are they." Zane was looking over my shoulder and peering at my background.
I went into photos and chose the picture. "Those are my best friends Cliff and Mina." I pointed to them. "That's Riley and his jerk friend Paul. And those are my parents." It was New Years and we had a few friends over, we were all smiling and it was just before Paul's slime trigger went off and we got covered in goo.
Suddenly my phone rang. I checked the caller ID. "Stop calling me dad." I muttered slamming the hang up button.
Zane blinked. "Why do you not wish to call your father?"
I pursed my lips. I wanted to tell him, I did. But...I wasn't sure. But then there was the question I wanted to ask him. But I didn't want to ask it.
"It's nothing." I said unconvincingly before taking out some pyjamas. "I gotta change so can you...?"
He blushed. "Of course." He said quickly leaving. I closed the door and sighed, slipping my still soaked shirt off my head. I could tell someone had changed me into it for hypothermia reasons and I didn't recognize it. I was guessing it belonged to Reagan judging by the giant R and the from Lloyd written on the tag.
I pulled on my pyjamas before brushing my teeth. I slid into the bed and laid down. I couldn't sleep though. I know my eyes should be closing and consciousness wafting away. It didn't. To many thoughts rushed through my head.
I couldn't get Zane out of my mind, the robot, the polite, kind, boy.
Why I couldn't tell him about my dad.
Why I couldn't ask him what I wanted to.
So for most of the night I just stared at the ceiling as these questions raced like cars around and around....
