So Many Years Ago

It was just a chance encounter, so many years ago

Just a fading memory, that refuses to let go

It was just a single moment when measured by our lives

Just a fleeting second, when measured up to time

It was just the sun setting like a million times before

It was just the moon rising, the waves beating on the shore

It was just another season that comes faithfully each year

Just a sigh of passion and a single falling tear

It was just one night together but it's stayed here in my heart

And though the years have passed us and the miles keep us apart

I keep holding to the memory and I still just love it so

That single night together, so many years ago

You can take away my eyesight, so then I cannot see

Take away my hearing; never let my mind at ease

You can take away my freedom; keep me locked up in this place

But don't take away my memories; let my dreams still see her face
