Ch.11
3rd Pov.
"Hinata Hyuuga!" Iruka called.
"H-here." The quiet voice answered.
"Ino Yamanaka!" He said the next name on his list.
"Over here Sensei!" Ino said with her normal smirk.
"Kagurama!" Silence. Looking up from the paper, he furrowed his brows. "Has anyone seen Kagurama?" Iruka questioned the class. No one responded. Looking around the classroom once more, Iruka continued roll calling.
__________
"Achoo!" The sneeze of a child echoed throughout the cold nearly empty apartment. Shivering under her blanket, Kagurama felt like she was dying. The trash can near her bed was over flowing with used tissues, along with an empty pack. A fresh one on the bed with her. Her body curled up, attempting to warm itself up as her head felt heavy and painful.
Feeling something running down her nose, Kagurama hurriedly grabbed a tissue to prevent the blood from dirtying her bed. She was almost certain that she was running a fever seeing how no matter how hot she felt, she couldn't stop shaking. She released a pained groan, feeling like crying. Why did she take her sweet time last night instead of hurrying home?
Kagurama's Pov.
I blew my nose into the tissue, my head pulsing painfully from the nose bleed. I had never had a nose bleed in my life, so when I first got one this morning, I thought I was dying. I sure feel like I'm dying. I don't remember being sick was this painful. Feeling the need to use the bathroom, I stood up but instantly sat down when I was hit with a wave a dizziness and nausea. My eyes widened at the burning bile rising up my throat, and I dashed as fast as I could to the bathroom. Stumbling a little from the dizziness.
Tears filled my eyes from the gagging I was doing while puking. I'm not upset or in pain, it's just a reflex that happens whenever I puke. The clear acid filled my toilet seat, and I flushed the toilet, cleaned the seat, and used the bathroom. I shakily washed my hands, suddenly freezing, and shuffled back to my room. I was hungry, but the thought of food made me feel like puking once again. I laid my head on my pillow, covered myself with my blanket, and felt my consciousness slip away.
_________
Slowly getting up, I could barely see the sun begin to rise. Taking that into consideration, it was probably around 7 a.m.
"Ugh why does my head hurt." I groaned while scratching my messy hair. Brown and white strands mixed together and my normally straight brown hair was beginning to stick up in spikes. My eyesight cleared as I squinted at the calendar, realizing the reason behind my headache. It was May 19. The Fire festival. People say it's the day the village was formed with an alliance between the Senju and Uchiha clan.
The fire festival was probably the worst day for me throughout the year. I absolutely hated it. I just didn't understand why people felt the need to celebrate. Sure the Senju and Uchiha finally stopped fighting, but that didn't change the deaths and wars that followed. Even more people died because of the alliance other clans were doing. Besides, it was a day we received off from the academy, Iruka-Sensei telling us to spend time with our families. I almost forgot how painful that word was until I heard it.
My stomach growled causing me to groan in irritation. I pulled myself out from my warm bed, and groggily headed to the bathroom. I tiredly brushed my teeth, after using the toilet. Seeing that the water was now hot, I took a quick shower and proceeded to walk out of the bathroom with just a towel over my shoulders. I rubbed the ends of my hair, temporarily stopping it from dripping with water. I put on one of my many blue tank tops and a pair of black underwear.
Opening the fridge, I was grateful that Fox came by earlier this week. Not that I would ever say that out loud. I grabbed the apple juice, some random vegetables, two eggs, and last some soy sauce. If I was going to survive, I had to learn how to cook.
I started off by putting each item next to each other, besides the apple juice that sat at the table.
"Hmmmm." I narrowed my eyes with a frown, trying to figure out just what to do. My body slightly jumped at the crash noise from my room. I grabbed the sword of the second Hokage, that may or may not have been framed in my living room, and raced to my bedroom. "Identify yourself." I demanded with a glare. Black messy hair shot up, and an older boy faced me with a surprised expression. My eyes narrowed even more seeing the Uchiha fan on the shoulder of his short sleeved navy blue shirt.
"I didn't think anyone lived here..." the boy muttered, completely ignoring me. My teeth gritted in irritation, grip tightening on the blade.
"I'm not going to repeat myself, intruder." I said. The Uchiha who was looking around my bedroom finally faced me, but his attention lingered on my hair and eyes.
"Hey kid, where's your parents?" He asked. I only narrowed my eyes even more, and titled the blade in my hand. "What a scary look you have on. A kid like you shouldn't even have a blade like that either." The Uchiha said with a serious expression. He then gave a defeated sigh and crossed his arms. "I'd be suspicious of a random guy breaking into my apartment as well. My name is Shisui Uchiha. I apologize for the mess here." He said pointing to the broken flower pot that was knocked off from the window sill. Still uncertain, I slowly lowered my arm once I saw the leaf headband on his shoulder. He was already a ninja, so any hopes in defeating him was unlikely.
"What are you doing in my home?" I demanded with a suspicious glare.
"Ha ha. I didn't mean to come here! I was hiding from an angry friend, and assumed this apartment was empty from the looks of it. The window was open making it that much easier to enter." The boy who identified himself as Shisui said. I quickly glanced at the now closed window. I only opened it so the plants could have a little fresh air. My face held clear disappointment at the plant on the floor.
"If you're really sorry, then clean it up. There's a spare pot in the closet to your left. There should be a small shovel in it as well. As compensation, put the plant in it, carefully, without damaging it." I said. I would have done it myself, but I don't want to turn my back to a possible enemy.
"You're not a normal child are you? Alright then, since I did break the pot I guess I'll fix it-!"
"Do you know how to cook?" I cut in once an idea popped into my head.
"What?"
"I brought out a portion of food, and I haven't figured out what to do with it. I'll clean up the mess here, you go and cook something with the food laid it." I said, my voice leaving no room for argument. The Uchiha before me stared with a serious expression, almost making me think he was done listening to my demands. Relief over flood me, not that it showed when he released a smirk and pointed to himself.
"Be prepared to feast on the best food you've ever tasted." He mocked with an overly confident expression. I merely shrugged and put the blade on my bed. Once he was out of my room, I looked down at the plant in disappointment. While most girls my age were interested in dress up and dolls, I was interested in collecting plants. For as long as I could recall, I would get a sense of calm from the earthy smell of the plants, and just from looking at them.
I shook my head and grabbed the spare pot that was in my closet, and got to work on the plant. Once it was settled in its new home, I grabbed the broom and dustpan from the kitchen, not without giving the Uchiha who looked to be in his teens a suspicious glance, and finished cleaning my room. Remembering about my lack of pants, and the fact that the Uchiha didn't comment on it, I quickly put on a pair of green shorts.
Once I could tell the Uchiha began cooking, I went into the kitchen to watch. After all, I needed to learn. Carefully looking over his steps, I soon realized he had no idea what he was doing.
"Stop. I'll just cook. You can leave now." I said with an annoyed expression. I couldn't have him wasting the food that was supposed to last me a month.
"What? No I need to compensate for the mess I made here." The Uchiha said with a frown. Judging by his expression, he doesn't look like the type to go back on his word. If I couldn't have him cook, and I already cleaned up my mess, then what...
"I have a list of things I was going to buy once I mastered the transformation jutsu. Since you're a Shinobi, no one would question you. Go get them for me." I said as I rummaged through my drawer and pulled out a paper. I also gave him some money that would be more than enough to cover the expenses. Seeming more satisfied with the task, the Uchiha left, saying something like how this was just another mission for him, and he would complete it efficiently.
Now, to remember what Fox did last time he cooked, I'm pretty sure he washed the vegetables and had them soaked in a little bit of soy sauce. I carefully did that with the broccoli, carrots and purple onions I cut, and put my attention on the two eggs laying mockingly on the counter.
"Last time I touched these, they exploded in my face..." I muttered with a cautious expression. However I will not be bested by dead chicks. "But I'm pretty sure it was because I used chakra to try to crack them open." I suddenly remembered the fact I poured chakra into the egg, in hopes of popping it open. Grabbing one, I slowly hit it against the counter, satisfied at the crack that formed, and pulled it open into the bowl I brought out. "Perfect!" I exclaimed a little too excited. Doing the same with the other egg, I beat them with a fork and left it aside.
"I'm pretty sure you're supposed to cook eggs with a frying pan, but which one was the frying pan exactly?" I muttered to myself as I looked under the sink at the dishes I never knew I had. "Isn't it supposed to be big and flat?" I questioned while pulling out a circular, but flat silver dish(she doesn't know she's holding a pan right now.) and shrugged my shoulders. Hopefully this was a pan.
I placed what I hoped was a pan, on stove and poured some cooking spray into it. I then dumped the vegetables, seeing how Fox cooked them first last time, and once they turned a little brown from being cooked with soy sauce, I poured the eggs into it.
"Wow. This actually smells good!" I exclaimed, a grin slowly forming on my face. Me, a 5 year old, cooking okay food? This day may not be a completely disaster! Once the eggs turned a nice yellow-brown color, I put it on a white plate, and turned off the stove. I placed the hot pan in the sink, poured water over it, and stared at the food. "I think I made a little too much." I quietly said with a frown. Looking around the kitchen, the frown deepened at the mess. How something as simple as making eggs able to produce a mess like this, I don't even want to know. I guess I'll eat after I clean.
"I'm back!" Shisui's voice shouted while my door slammed open. The hand digging into the wall. He looked at the damage and rubbed the back of his neck. "Oops?"
"Ugh! You are so infuriating!" I exclaimed ask grabbed the bag out of his hand. He only laughed and made his way to the table where I laid out my food.
"You know, now that I think of it I'm kind of hungry." He said with a teasing smile. I closed my eyes, taking in deep breaths to control my anger, and slowly opened them.
"Go ahead. I already ate." I said not wanting to show how irritated I was become. The Uchiha grinned and began eating as if he's been starved for days.
I went back to cleaning the plate I ate out of, and glanced out the window to see that the sun was setting and the fire festival was starting.
"Ah the fire festival! I just remembered something! It was nice to meet ya but I gotta go!" Shushing exclaimed and by the time I turned around, he was already gone. I didn't say anything and walked into my room, sitting up on the bed to look out the window. Since my apartment was pretty high up, I could see most of the village from this view. I could see the small pink haired girl trip and fall, scrapping her knees. I could see how she cried, gaining the attention and worry of her parents. I could see how her dad picked her up, and hugged her tight, while her mother rubbed her head.
I felt my lips quiver, and tears well up in my eyes. The jealousy I felt soon dimmed to pure loneliness, as I saw the Uchiha who was at my house meet up with another Uchiha who held a little child's hand.
_________
Day two was far worse than day one. I could barely even breathe now, and my face was pale with sweat dripping down. I haven't eaten anything in almost 2 days making me drastically weak, and I could barely drink water without feeling the need to puke.
I sniffed, blinking back the tears at the loneliness I was feeling. I could remember being outside and witnessing a mother and father fussing over their sick child. I had neither. I was all alone. I squeezed the blanket over myself even tighter. Crying won't change the fact that I have no one.
I dragged my heavy body from the bed in hopes of taking a shower. The feeling of sweat drying on my skin was both itchy and disgusting. I took of the loose kimono, and started the shower. Once the water was hot enough, I began to wash myself. My movements were slow and heavy, and the steam from the water only made it harder to breathe.
5 minutes later, my body couldn't handle the heat anymore, and I hastily turned the water off. I made my way to my room after slipping on a clean pair of sweats. Laying on my bed, I tried to sleep.
_________
I. Can't. Sleep. No matter how tightly I close my eyes, the sweetness of sleep just won't come. I got up to get some water from my kitchen, but my eyes widened when the room began to spin, and I fell face forward on the ground.
I let out a pained silent groan, my limbs refusing to push me up. I guess I'll just lie here, withering away. As if. I struggled to pull myself up, but a knock on the door pulled my attention.
"Kagurama?" I could hear the muffled voice of Iruka-Sensei through. I opened my mouth to respond, but stopped remembering I had lost my voice. Because of my decision to stop locking my front door, the door knob twisted, and the door opened. "Kagurama!" Iruka-Sensei shouted once he saw me laying on my floor. I only stared at the Chūnin who frantically lifted me up. "Your burning up! Why didn't you go to the hospital?!" He demanded. I didn't respond seeing how I couldn't. Wrapping me up in my blanket, Sensei began rushing to the hospital. The one thing I dreaded. Joy.
