Me On My Own
I woke up the next morning almost gleaming, which seemed weird for a Thursday, but it was all because of last night and the surprise visit from John. Both Stu, John and I would be reappearing in school today, Pete wasn't all that lucky, he'd have to stay home a little while longer to recover from his injuries. I hopped out of bed and started to get dressed for school, keeping my eye on the clock as I waited for Stu, or maybe even John.
There was a knock on the door as I finished my toast, I quickly pulled my book bag onto my back and went to the door. "'ello Kat, ye look awfully good for someone who was just in the hospital."
"Thanks Stu... I think? Ye alri'?" I ask, as I stepped outside, ready to make the trek to school, we always walked to school whenever it was nice, and since it was beginning to change into fall again it was nice out.
"I'm just fine, you?"
"Dandy. John's broken nose actually fits him very well." I said, elbowing his side softly as he began to laugh at me.
"You saw 'im then?" Stu asked, grinning at me in a cheeky way.
"I did." I stated, Stu just looked at me with eyes that begged me to continue. "What? I don't kiss and tell, let's just say mum met him."
"What?!" Stu asked, his mouth so wide a cricket ball could've fit.
"That sounds very misleading. I can't wait to 'ear what yer imagination comes up with. A bloke like you, there's countless things ye could be thinkin'." I said laughing at his face once more as John came into view, smoking a cigarette at the end of the road.
"Alright?" John said, walking in beat with us as we passed.
"Great, Stu's too lost in his thoughts to speak. But, how about yerself?"
"Happy, really happy. I'm glad yer mum kind of got to meet me ay'? Ye think she likes me? Cause I'd really like to take you out, ye know... On a real date. If ye'd like me to, that is." John said, grabbing my hand, smiling at me softly, I could tell it hurt his nose a bit, but he didn't seem too phased about it.
"Of course you can John. I think she likes you a bit, maybe a little shocked about last night, but she was grinnin' more than me last night." I said, laughing as Stu let out a gasp.
"Speakin' of last night; Someone please tell me what happened!!" Stu whined.
"Stu, mate, come 'ed, why would either of us tell, especially ye bloke." John said, stopping in the alley way right before school. "I'll see you two later alri'?" John said, kissing me softly on the lips before walking away. I counted to thirty, out of impulse, as I watched him walk away from me.
"Wow." Stu said, grabbing my arm and dragging me through the alley way.
"What Stu?" I asked annoyed as I yanked my arm out of his grip, holding in my scream since it was my hurt arm.
"He really does take the 'no kissing and telling' thing into effect doesn't he? I thought you were his bloody bird?" Stu said, putting to John, who seemed to be swallowed up in a crowd of girls and his friends. "I bet if you were even seen with another guy, he'd 'ave a fuckin' fit."
"Yer the one who justified 'im doing that in the first place Stu."
"It's just not right. Ye could 'ave anyone ye want, yet yer with someone who yer not even allowed to admit that yer with."
"Then what did you suggest Stu?" I sighed, as I threw my books in my locker.
"Ye see that bloke over there?" Stu said, pointing to a guy that I hadn't seen here at all. "He's new. And a year older than John. Why don't ye talk to 'im? I've 'eard 'im talking about ye."
"Stop lyin'." I said, elbowing him.
"Ay' I promise. Go talk to 'im, I'll save ye a seat." Stu said, running away from me, I had nothing else to lose, I thought to myself as I walked over to him.
"Hello." I said, over the crowd of people pushing and shoving as they tried to get inside of the school or office.
"Hi." He said softly, looking at me with blue eyes.
"I've never seen you 'ere." I awkwardly stated. "Are ye new 'ere?"
"No. I've got to get me transcript. Me mum wants to send me off to college?"
"College? Yet I've never seen you, hm?" I asked, making the both of us chuckle, shoving off the awkwardness from the situatuon at hand.
"Me mum kind of home schooled me? All I needed to do was take this test, so I could legally pass. I don't know what we've got yet."
"Hopefully it's good." I stated before the bell rang over head. Two minutes to get to class. "I guess that's me."
"I guess so, but you are...?"
"Kat, and you?" I said, smiling at him. He didn't seemed embarrassed to be talking to me at all, if anything he seemed as if he wanted to talk to me even more than we could.
"Richard. If ye and a coupla friends want to stop by this bar durin' lunch. I'll be down there playin' with me band." He, Richard, asked me nervously.
"What bar?"
"The Cavern."
"I'll be there." I said, smiling at him one last time before the late bell rang over head. I quickly rushed down the hall as I heard Richard chuckle "You'll be late too." after me. Luckily Mrs. Ray wasn't there, so I safely made it to my seat, sitting beside of Stu and across from Paul.
"Yer late." Paul said, chuckling as I blushed, avoiding John's heavy gaze.
"Well it's better than bein' absent ay'?" I said making him laugh. I quickly tore out a piece of notebook paper and started writing on it, secretively passing it to Stu. Look at the bloody way he's staring at me. Did you tell him something?
Stu just looked over at me and smirked, shaking his head. "So you guys," I said, drawing the tables attention. "I met this guy named Richard, and he's in this band and was wonderin' if ye'd like to come with me to the Cavern at lunch, since they'll be playin' down there."
"Does Kat 'ave a boyfriend?" Paul said, laughing as I began to blush.
"Shut up Paul." John said, glaring at me. "Yer goin' then?"
"Yeah... I was just wonderin' if ye'd like to come. I know you guys 'ave been tryin' to play at more places, maybe the band can give ye some advice or somethin'." I said playing with my thumbs.
"I'll go with ye. Never know who'll be out there. Plus I wouldn't mind meetin' a follow Liverpudlian band. Ay' what about ye blokes?" Stu said, wrapping his arm around my shoulder.
"Fine. I'll go. We're goin' to need a new guitarist anyways. And a drummer if we're goin' be a rock band." John said, still sounding angry.
"What about George?"
"He's too bloody young Paul!" John almost yelled, making the entire class echoed with quietness. I felt a nervous twang in my stomach, maybe Stu was all too right.
