It's Awkward, but We'll Work it Out
Gabriel's POV
The wedding had been a success, and Gabriel had to admit that it felt so good when Dean smiled at Sam and Castiel like they were his life lines. Sam, although a bit hesitant, finally warmed back up to his brother, even going as far as gluing Dean's hand to his wine glass with the glue he had found in Gabriel's glovebox. He and Gabriel had laughed so hard at Dean's expression, they had to leave the room.
So currently, they were on the small steps of the building, the midday sun finally starting to make its descent downwards. Silence had fallen over the both of them, and Gabriel was chewing on his lip. Although he had been good at putting up a facade around the others, his true worries always fell around Sam.
"Are you okay, Gabe?" Sam asked, making Gabriel's chest twinge a bit. His voice sounded so different, sounded so much sadder, even when he was laughing, but when he asked that question, the nurse could still hear that kindness that he was already missing so much.
"I'm just thinking how different it will be when we get home. You have your memories back, and it's like I don't know anything about you anymore." Gabriel finally admitted. He was allowing Sam in, and he hoped that the boy would stay, no matter how much it changed. He heard Sam sigh beside him and felt an arm wrap around his shoulders, pulling him against the warmth of the giant.
"I know. I sort of wish that I never would have got my memories back. I don't want you to know what a monster I was, what I am." Sam said, and Gabriel felt his heart drop. There was actual pain in his voice, as if his memories alone would destroy the friendship that had quickly grown. Gabriel swallowed thickly, his fingers fiddling in his lap.
"We'll work it out. It'll be awkward, our friendship will be strained, but we'll get through it. We can learn about each other, be a shoulder to lean on, start from scratch. Sound good?" Gabriel said, smiling at the man that sat beside him. He was willing to fight for the only friend he had. He was just hoping that Sam would do the same.
For a moment, Sam just sat there, thinking. Gabriel watched as his jaw clenched and unclenched before he finally dropped his head and sighed. He looked over at Gabriel and nodded, a little shy. The nurse grinned, leaning over and hugging the giant tightly.
"Let's get back inside then, okay?" Gabriel offered, feeling the arm around his shoulder slide off as Sam nodded again. Gabriel stood and held his hand out, hauling the man up when he took it. He grinned at Sam, though he felt a bit intimidated as the male towered over him. It so wasn't fair.
Gabriel scaled up the few steps that the building had, walking over to the door and opening it. The murmur of people speaking became apparent, but neither Sam nor the nurse cared, because they entered the room without a second thought.
The chairs that had been there had been cleared from the middle of the floor, allowing the people to dance. Dean and Castiel were the center of attention, Castiel laughing happily as he was spun around, caught in a surprise kiss. Gabriel felt his heart burn, wishing to one day have as good of a relationship as his baby brother.
"I don't think I've ever seen Dean this happy before. Castiel sure is good for him." Sam commented casually, though a hint of bitterness in his voice. Gabriel could understand his pain. It was good to see Castiel happy, but he couldn't help feel disappointed that it wasn't the nurse putting him in this good a mood.
"Yeah, I hope to have a relationship like that." Gabriel replied casually, leaning against a corner void of any other people. Sam joined him, their arms brushing together as they watched the newly wed couple.
"I'm sure you will. You're the kindest person I know. Not many people can help an amnesiac." Sam replied, smiling over at Gabriel, who blushed and nodded in response. Several minutes of comfortable silence passed between them before Gabriel grabbed Sam's arm, pulling him towards the dancefloor.
"Come on. We need to dance!" Gabriel said, smiling back at the shocked giant. He stopped when he got to the middle, most people barely casting them a second glance. Sam automatically placed his hands around the nurse's waist, holding his hips firmly. Gabriel raised an eyebrow at him, a smirk playing on his face as he wrapped his arms around his neck.
"Has my dear Samsquatch ever danced before?" Gabriel asked playfully as the swayed back and forth to the music, their feet moving in a synchronized pace. Sam only nodded, his shoulders relaxing as he grew used to the feeling of the nurse.
They didn't speak for the rest of the dance, only smiles crossing their faces as drifted across the dance floor. As they passed Dean and Castiel, the newly wed couple smiled at them, Gabriel sticking out his tongue at his younger brother. Castiel squinted his eyes in response, turning back to Dean as the boy stole a kiss from his lips.
Gabriel never had so much fun before.

Gabriel let out a groan as he stumbled into his home late that night, his feet aching and his body stiff. Sam followed behind him, seemingly unfazed by any exhaustion, which Gabriel couldn't help but note with jealousy for his stamina.
"It's so good to be home." Gabriel said in relief as he slid his dress shoes off his feet, instantly feeling the cool floor provide comfort for his clothed feet. Sam let out a grunt of approval, the click of his own shoes falling to the ground making the nurse turn.
"Do you want the shower first?" Gabriel asked, feeling a bit tense. He had learned early on the Sam liked to take a shower before anyone else; but for this Sam, he didn't know how much the boy had changed.
"I would, thanks." Sam said, a bit too formal for Gabriel's liking. He growled softly to himself, grabbing Sam's wrist before he could walk past. He pushed himself onto his toes, placing a kiss on Sam's forehead like he always did before walking into the kitchen, not looking back in case it was something he didn't want to see.

Gabriel sipped on a can of coke, staring at the counter, lost in thought. He was excited that Sam had wanted to stay with him even after he got his memories back, but it felt so....wrong. Sam wasn't the same person, and the nurse couldn't help but judge the new Sam a bit harshly, even though it wasn't his fault.
He let out a soft sigh, resting his head on his arm as his gaze dully switched to the window. He could hear the soft steps of Sam shifting on the floor above, the spray of the water disappearing. Gabriel slowly stood up, heading up the stairs.
He reached the bathroom door as soon as Sam walked out, wearing a towel around his middle half and steam rolling off of his body. He jumped when he saw Gabriel waiting there casually, his hands automatically going into a defensive stance.
"Calm down, kiddo." Gabriel said with a smirk, patting the firm but soft skin of his shoulder. Sam both relaxed and tensed into the touch, his expression showing his confliction. So old Sam is still in there. Gabriel thought in amusement.
"How long have you been standing there?" Sam asked, brushing away some hair that got in his face.
"Relax, I just got here." Gabriel replied, though it only served to put more confusion on Sam.
"How did you know I'd be out?"
"Sam, I've been living with you with a month. Hell, I helped you shower for the first two weeks! Trust me, I know how fast you shower." Gabriel replied nonchalantly, unable to stop from grinning at Sam's red face as the boy blushed.
"I shouldn't feel awkward about that, but it's just so wrong coming from your mouth." Sam mumbled, stepping to the side so Gabriel could get through. The nurse laughed, hugging Sam gently.
"You'll get used to it, trust me." Gabriel replied before sliding into the bathroom and closed the door. It took him only five minutes to shower.
When he got to his bedroom, a slightly damp towel wrapped tightly around his waist, he smiled, seeing the black sweatpants and gray t-shirt with ghost-like wings on the back. Sam always borrowed and wore those as pajamas, rambling about how comfortable and warm they were.
Gabriel slipped them on, instantly surrounded in Sam's scent. It was nice and comforting, and the nurse stood for a moment, just appreciating the memories he had of the old Sam.
"I don't remember you liking them that much." Gabriel heard Sam say behind him. He turned, a smile playing on his lips as he looked at the smirking giant.
"It just reminds me of you." Gabriel said with a shrug, smoothing out the shirt. He watched as Sam walked over, rubbing the back of his neck.
"Yeah, about that." Sam started, looking a little uncomfortable. "I know it's awkward between us and I just want to say I'm sorry."
Gabriel furrowed his eyebrows, tipping his head. "Why are you apologizing? You can't help that you changed." He replied to the boy, reaching out to brush Sam's hair out of his face, but thought better of it and pulling his hand back to his side.
"Y-yeah, but if at any point you feel like living alone again, I'll leave." Sam said, looking a bit distracted and....hurt?
"Trust me, Sam. I'm not going to make you leave. I really hate being alone." Gabriel said comfortingly. The heartfelt moment they were having was interrupted by a yawn that escaped from Sam, making Gabriel chuckle.
"Come on kiddo. You may have your memories back, but you still need to sleep." Gabriel urged, grabbing Sam's hand out of habit and leading him to his room. He paused outside the door, looking at Sam who smiled.
"I just want to say thanks, for everything. You were there when no one else was." Sam said, hugging Gabriel tightly. The nurse hugged him back, feeling the giant's heartbeat racing underneath his chest. He didn't get a chance to ask about it though, because Sam pulled away and went to his room.
Gabriel frowned, but only shook his head and went to his own room, falling asleep as soon as his head touched the pillow.

Sam’s POV
Sam listened as Gabriel walked away, biting his lip and letting out a sigh. It was beginning to feel very awkward around the male, and not just because he had his memories back and had to deal with the monstrosity he was. No, something even worse was at hand when he was around the male.
He was glad Gabriel hadn’t noticed that he had been staring when he had gotten out of the shower. He wasn’t even sure that the nurse had realized that Sam had been standing in the nearby hallway. The way his skin moved over the muscles in his back and hips made Sam blush even brighter than usual, and he had to look away. He wasn’t bothered by it before, so why now?
Sam didn’t even realize what he was doing until he found himself in the hallway. He had been wondering around while he was thinking, ending up in front of Gabriel’s door, the once friendly aura now seeming almost a bit unwelcome, bordering on hostility.
Taking a deep breath, Sam slowly opened the door, feeling a sense of nostalgia washed over him as he saw the sleeping nurse laying in his bed. He crept forwards, sliding onto the open side of the bed and settling down, staring at the male that had took such good care of him.
He closed his eyes, contentment filling the emptiness that he had felt since his memories came back, but it didn’t truly feel like home until Gabriel rolled over and wrapped his arms gently around Sam, holding him close.
