I'm always very early to school since I was a child. My parents hated lateness, to them lateness is a sign of irresponsibility so they always made sure that my brother and I resumed by 7:00 am on the dot.

I walk into my class and I'm the first person to get to school not that I'm surprised. I bring out a copy of Half of a Yellow Sun from my bag to read. I love novels and this is one of my best.

I'm reading when someone walks into the class, I look up and the person I see is the girl who my brain remembers as Diane.

"Hello" she says walking toward me.

"What's up?" I ask carefully putting away my book.

"What's your name again?" she asks smiling.

"Naomi"

"Beautiful name. It suites you" she says picking up my book.

Ugh! I hate it when people touch my book especially the ones that are already worn out.

"Be careful with it" I snap.

"Sorry" she says carefully putting it down.

Now I feel bad, God why do I have to be so emotional!

"I'm sorry for snapping" I say as I put the book back in my bag.

"It's fine. Would you like to sit with us during break today?" she asks.

Who is us abeg? I'm not sure I want to change who I sit with at least for now.

"Actually I already sit with Anita and Bimbo" I say refusing her offer politely.

"It's just one day na, they wouldn't mind" she says her voice laced with resentment.

They are probably not on good terms, this one that she looks so disgusted hearing their names.

I shouldn't be surprised what's secondary school without secondary school drama.

"I don't know sha, I'll have to tell them first" I say quietly, giving it some thought.

"But why, do they control you or something?" she ask looking at me weirdly.

What is it na? I don't want to sit with you during break. Free me

"Because it's the polite thing to do" I snap getting annoyed by her persistence.

She's about to say something but she's cut off by Bimbo who just entered the classroom.

"Naomi, pass your chemistry note oo. Anita said that you can solve it" she says as walking towards me.

"Let me get my note" I say reaching into my bag.

"Just bring your bag, let's go to the library" she pulls me up from my seat before I can protest.

"I was talking to her"! Diane shouts as we leave the classroom.

Bimbo doesn't say anything till we get to the library.

"What was she talking to you about?" she asks as we sit.

"Nothing important" I say facing her.

"It didn't look like nothing" she snaps back.

Opor, this gist must be hot oo, if it can turn Bimbo into this fierce tigress.

"She say I should sit with them today" I say giving her my note.

"I don't need it"

"But number eight" I push it back to her but she pushes it back to me and I'm getting irritated.

"I've done it oo. I was just looking for how to remove you from that classroom"

"Oh alright" I say putting it back in my bag.

"You're probably wondering why I'm early" she says smiling obviously proud of herself.

"I wasn't. I didn't even notice" I say with extra boredom in my tone.

She glares at me in her dram queen way before getting up. "Let's go to class" she says.

"Alright" I mumble as I follow her out of the library.

"Stay away from Diane" she says in the most serious tone ever.

Ghen gen! I will soon start to know the gist small small.

Chai just look at my life, me that I vowed to just focus on school work.

"Why?" I ask in my normal amebo way.

"You'll understand eventually"

When we get to class Anita is around. She's sitting down there like she owns the place, chewing her gum and going through her phone. As usual.

"Where were you?" she asks as we take our seats.

"Library" I say giving her my chemistry note.

"I even forgot. Thank you jare" she says taking it happily.

"Good morning everyone" A tall black man with a bald head says entering the class.

We all mumble a response.

"I'm your class teacher. My name is Mr Tunde Awolor. I'll be in the staffroom if you need anything"

A flimsy yes sir is heard across the room.

"We have new students in our midst, please stand up and introduce yourself and tell us the school you're coming from.

"I'm Moses Folorunsho. I'm coming from Prestige City High." a boy says standing up.

"Welcome to Lethbridge" he says as Moses sits.

"I'm Naomi Daniels. I'm coming from Bowen International Schools" I say after standing up.

Whispers go round the class.

"She must be spoilt, that school of spoilt kids"

"Bowen is in her blood, it's so obvious from her attitude"

"Just avoid her, these Bowen children have something in their head"

"I don't like her vibe"

God, see the type of classmates I have.

"Welcome to Lethbridge" he says as I sit down.

"Well those are the new students, I'm sorry I couldn't introduce them yesterday, I was just assigned to be your class teacher this morning"

Nobody says anything so he continues.

"Since nobody has anything to say, I'll be leaving. Have a nice day"

He's barely out of the classroom when the noise resumes, God even in SS3 we still can't be mature.

"What do we have first period?" Anita asks giving me back my note.

"I don't know"

I take my book from her and place it under my desk.

"Computer" Bimbo says at the same time the bell rings.

"Let's go, the bell has gone" Anita says gathering her things.

We all leave for computer class the same time and the lab is on the same floor as our class so we get there in no time at all.

"Settle down" he shouts as we all enter the class.

We have a free period last. Well not really a free period, it's a reading period but everyone takes it as a free period. Fortunately, Science and Art class have it at the same time. Mad o!

"So why are we all quiet and actually reading?" Tyrone asks closing his Government textbook.

This guy, Tyrone is just a vibe honestly. It's been about three days now and the guy is on my approved list. He has the most easy going personality ever and he's so hilarious.

"Because some of us have dreams of a future" Anita fires back sharply.

This girl, she no dey give this boy breathing space always on his case. Omo their gist will be mad.

"Why are you always on his case?" I ask.

Tyrone turns to face me with immense speed, "Please ask her" he pleads.

Temi and Ayo share a secret look which I don't understand. Struggle of being new in a friendship circle not knowing any secret.

"Anita has a crush" Temi says in the most annoying sing song voice ever.

She just hisses without giving any reply.

"She does" Ayo whispers to the rest of us.

"If you do just tell me. I'll see if we can work out" Tyrone says winking at her, she rolls her eyes at him so hard she could get an award.

"How far Bimbo?" Temi asks looking at her then back to us.

"Chemistry" Anita and I say in unison.

That girl has been hooked on her chemistry textbook since the first day of school, it's always with her.

We all laugh out loud which earns a glare from the librarian. We mumble a sorry ma'am and go back to reading.

I look at her and start laughing again and everyone joins in but we laugh quietly.

"Why are you guys laughing?" she asks looking confused.

"Nothing" Ayomide says.

She doesn't seem to care because she just goes back to reading.

"When are they appointing prefects?" Temi asks.

"On Monday" Anita answers.

"What positions are you guys hoping for?" I ask.

"Senior prefect" Anita says with hope evident in her voice.

"Sport prefect" Tyrone says.

"Labour prefect" Ayomide says.

"Social prefect" Temi says.

They all have the same hopeful look in their eyes, as if to say dear God please don't put me to shame.

"Bimbo which position are you hoping for?" I ask poking her gently.

"Science Laboratory prefect" she answers not looking up from her textbook.

Omo, Albert Einstein Junior.

"How are you feeling about the whole prefect thing?" Ayo asks me and I sigh heavily.

Dude, it sucks that I can't be a prefect but it's not something I'm surprised about.

"I'm sad I can't be a prefect sha but I'm not surprised so I don't really mind" I explain to them.

"Don't worry I'll nominate you for class captain" Anita says.

"I don't want oo!" I shout in protest.

Please let's be guided.

"Ahan, but why na?" Temi asks looking at me funny.

"Too much responsibility" I say.

"And you are lazy" Bimbo says closing her textbook.

"Exactly" I say earning a laugh from everyone.

"I'll still nominate you sha" Anita says going back to her reading.

The bell for closing rings and we all pack our stuff and leave the library and I can tell the librarian is very pleased.

"Which drink do you want?" Ayo ask me as we get to the tuckshop.

"Fanta" I answer without hesitation because it's my favourite drink.

He buys it and comes over to me.

"Take" he says giving me my Fanta.

"Thanks" I say already opening my sweet bottle of Fanta.

"No problem"

"Why did he buy you a drink?" Anita asks as we get outside.

"Love sparks na" Bimbo says winking at me.

Babe, let's be guided.

"Sure" I sarcastically reply earning a chuckle from Bimbo

"Ouch" Ayo says in mock hurt.

And oh my God, he's acting skills are on point. The whole facial expression and everything.

"Don't get me wrong oo, you're fine and all but I just met you" I say smiling.

"I know its cause we just met. I'm irresistible" he says winking at me.

This guy can flirt for Africa sha.

"I'm going home" I mumble to myself as I see the car entering the compound.

"Bye"

I walk away without waiting for a response from any of them, the only thing I see now is that car.

"Good Afternoon Mr Kunle"

I drop my bag beside me, it's my substitute pillow since my mum won't let me leave one in the car.

"Good afternoon Mizz Naomi" he says driving out.

"Is mummy at home?"

"Yez, she is"

"Alright" I say as I get ready to sleep.

"Naomi" someone says hitting me hard.

I know that voice, is that stupid Nathan.

Hello thunder come and see something first. I have this very foolish brother he goes by the name Nathan.

"Are you high?" I ask opening my eyes.

"Nope but you are home" he says helping me with my bag.

This boy goes from mad and annoying to sweet and helpful real quickly.

"Thanks" I say following him inside.

I go straight to my room and take a shower. I start my homework as soon as I'm done because I don't want to have anything to do after dinner.

"Adesua"!! My mum shouts from her room.

"Ma"! I shout getting up immediately.

"How are you?" she asks as I enter her room.

"I'm fine ma"

"It's almost dinner time" she says looking at the clock.

This woman and beating round the bush, just tell me direct. I know you want me to go and cook.

"Boil four cups of rice, put a little salt" she says.

"Yes ma"

"The help has already boiled the tomatoes, so just go and make the stew" she says.

"Yes ma"

"Tell your brother to fry the turkey and fish"

"Yes ma"

"That's all you can go" she says smiling at me.

"Okay ma"

I go to Nathan's room and as usual I barge into his room without knocking.

"Nathan, mummy said you should join me in the kitchen".

"To do what?" he asks looking up from his books.

I'm the only one that isnt a nerd in this house. Nathan is so hooked on his books but you'll barely catch him reading in the day time it must be at night when everyone is sleeping.

I'm sure he has stumbled on a very hard topic.

"Fry meat, the only thing you can do right".

"I can make egusi soup better than you" he says standing up.

"You've been working out se?"

"Yes oo" he answers glowing with pride.

"It's showing sha" I say as we go downstairs.

"I know"

Proud idiot! Because you eat the whole world and not gain a single pound we should not hear word again.

"Are you cooking shirtless?" I ask him as we enter the kitchen.

"Yes"

Ah it is finished! Wonders shall never end,

"How is school?" he asks and my eyebrows raise in surprise.

It's okay, I didn't plan to make friends but Ayo, Tyrone, Temi, Bimbo and Anita are just so friendly and nice. The teachers are okay, the school is mad sha.

"Fine"

"Remember what you went there for" he says sternly.

See this one, just because daddy isn't here anymore you think you have power to be bossing me around.

"As in how?"

"Avoid boys" he sates in a very authoritative voice.

"Yes sir" I answer with a dramatic eye roll.

"You will learn to appreciate me in future" he mutters but I still hear him.

"Maybe, but I certainly won't be appreciating your cooking" I mock pointing at the burning fish.

"Oh shit" he says trying to flip it over.

"The stew was very nice" my mum says as she finishes up her meal.

"Thank you ma"

I'm sure I'm smiling like who just won the lottery but I can't help it for my mother to compliment you or what you did, it must be exceptional.

"Ahan, mummy you will not compliment me?" Nathan asks pouting.

Mummy's boy, must you be jealous every time she shows me just a little bit of attention.

"Your fish is burnt somehow and is dry and kind of tasteless, try harder next time" she says dryly.

"Mummy, what kind of compliment is that?" he asks sadly and his facial expression sends us into a round of serious laughter.

"She's joking oo, the fish is okay. Don't cry" I manage to say in between laughter.

"Two of you are always bullying me. Good night"

He gets with extra drama and walk out of the dining room.

"Good night" my mum and I shout.in unison.

After eating, I wash the dishes and go to my room.

Only girl things, I'm always the one washing plates in this house while Nathan will be saying that how can a guy be washing plates. Total bullshit if you ask me.

I lie down and I'm about to close my eyes when I get a text.

It's from Ayo, he took my phone and saved his number as bop daddy that guy is just a fool.
