**WARNINGS! Angst! Mention of death! Tears! Sadness! Because what is Jasuke without some nice old-fashioned angst? In this AU, boys and girls, it's in the present, and Jax is the one that's dying :D

   This is based off of the song Some Things Are Meant To Be from Little Women, the scene where Beth is at the beach with Jo. So I'm gonna make it work.**

"Everyone has someone special in the world," Sasuke said softly. They had returned to the nook they'd spent endless hours in as kids. Sasuke had bolted from the campus of his school the moment he'd received the letter explaining the complications that had come with Jax's disease, very well knowing that they didn't have much time left to spend together.

"And I have you, Jax," he said, cupping her face. "Give me a task to do!" His familiar look of determination returned, remembering the game they used to play as kids.

Jax thought for a while before her lips curled into a smile. "Let's pretend we're riding on a kite," she whispered dreamily. "Let's imagine we're flying through the air..."

Sasuke smiled and grasped Jax's hand. "We'll ascend until we're out of sight. Light as paper, we'll soar..."

"Let's be wild up high above the sand," Jax looked out to the setting sun. "Feel the wind, the world at our command. Let's enjoy the view and never land!"

"Floating far from the shore..." Sasuke was lost in Jax's presence, absorbing the sparkle of her eyes as if to learn her by heart.

"Some things are meant to be," Jax's eyes met Sasuke's. "The clouds moving fast and free..."

"The sun on a silver sea..." Sasuke said quietly.

"A sky that's bright and blue," they murmured in unison.

"And some things will never end," Jax said after a small, delicate pause.

"The thrill of our magic ride..." Sasuke whispered.

"The love that I feel inside for you..."

Sasuke grinned. "We'll climb high beyond the break of day,"

"Sleep on stardust and dine on bits of moon," Jax giggled.

"You and I will find the Milky Way! We'll be mad..."

"And explore..." they laughed together.

"We'll recline..." Jax imagined.

"Aloft upon the breeze..." Sasuke smiled softly at this gentle, imaginative moment.

"Dart about," Jax grinned.

"Sail on with windy ease,
Pass the days doing only as we please
That's what living is for," they said, finishing each other's sentences and giggling as they once did all those years ago.

Jax rested their foreheads together, sighing happily.

"Some things are meant to be..." she whispered, entwining her fingers with Sasuke's. "The tide turning endlessly. The way it takes hold of me..."

Sasuke frowned, ready to interrupt, but the peace in Jax's smile cut him off.

"No matter what I do, some things will never die," Jax said. "The promise of who you are.
Your memories when I am far from you..." A tear traced a line down her cheek.

Sasuke smiled a shaky, teary-eyed smile. This was their final moment.

Jax pressed her lips to his for a brief moment.

"All my life, I've lived for loving you...

Let me go now..."
