Letters from the Other Side

Author: epicadrenaline

Genre: Poetry

What I liked about this book:

I think these would make some excellent song lyrics. There is a solid thread that runs through all the poems, and they do create an easily identifiable story. This can be extremely difficult to do with poetry, so I am always a little bit impressed when people manage it.

What I did NOT like about this book:

Full disclosure, I honestly don't think I'm that well equipped to be reviewing poetry. It's extremely subjective...that being said I really didn't enjoy this much.

Every poem is in the same A:B rhyming stanza format that we all learned in elementary school. That's a nice style I suppose, but it's very difficult to have it not sound trite. This did not succeed in that, and I found the rhyming so distracting that the rest of it was very difficult to read.

The only time rhyming works for me solidly is when it's song lyrics. I think this would make a nice music album, if the author can sing or knows someone who can. But it doesn't really work for me as a poetry book.

Take this review with a GIGANTIC grain of salt because again, I think I'm a little too subjective to be reviewing this kind of thing unless I absolutely loved it or it was truly awful, and really this was neither.

I know this feedback kind of sucks, sorry.

Overall:

Eh. Not my thing.

Rating:

A 3/10 because I really didn't enjoy it much, but the author should really not take this personally at all. I'd give this to someone who specifically reviews poetry and see what they think.
