Tongue of the Wicked

Author: wokenfire

Genre: Fantasy

What I liked about this book:

I'd very much classify this as a quick sort of guilty-pleasure read. I didn't love it, but I didn't hate it either. The text flows nicely and the story is mostly readable. Nari's bantering is sort of fun, and I really like her. Most of the writing itself is well-crafted.

What I did NOT like about this book:

The story makes no sense. Why is the dude who's name I've forgotten because he disappears for chapters at a time even bringing her? Why did he have to kill some other random girl to do it? Where did she get her training from? Why does the emperor even WANT a commoner bride to begin with?

Besides that, it's obvious she's an assassin sent to kill him, yet they trust her immediately. She's given all kinds of power and shit just because she's the main character. And I sense a growing long-lost-love story between the emperor and Yuna...speaking of, he hasn't thought even once about the mute girl and how she might be related to the chick he had to cut the tongue out of when he was a boy?

This story reads like a bad anime.

Overall:

It was entertaining I guess.

Rating:

6/10. Solid guilty pleasure, nothing more.
