Chapter 25
Clover's POV
"Congratulations on winning the first prize. Here is your medal." The guy from earlier says with a smile as he's putting the golden medal around my neck. I stare at it for a moment, surprised that I won out of everyone who was competing.
"CLOVER!" I hear a familiar voice scream and arms get wrapped around my body. I smile and then turn around to see Olive jumping up and down with excitement "Clover you won!" She screams again and then hugs me again.
"Yea. Thanks for watching me!" I say and notice Dominic coming over. I run up to him and hug him tightly. He returns one back.
"Well done sis! I knew that you would win!" He smiles. I only then realise the silver medal hanging around his neck. He notices me staring at it and laughs. "I knew there was no way I would be able to compete against a guy that could transport."
"Well, you still came second so that's good! Who was the guy that could transport?" I ask but I don't need an answer when I see Oscar coming up behind Dominic with a gold medal hanging from his neck.
"That would be me." He laughs. I smile nervously at him. "You did amazing Clover!" He says.
"Thanks! You too!" I thank him and then see Robyn coming towards us. She looks scared but relieved. "Do you think she's sorted it?" I ask Olive.
"She might've." She says and Robyn makes it to us and hugs us. She smiles brightly.
"I'm so sorry I couldn't watch you, Clover! But I had to do something with the Head Teacher. I need both of your help." She says but gets interrupted by a voice coming out of a speaker.
"Students, please listen carefully to the information I am about to tell you. I have been told that this school is under attack by some scientists that we don't know. In order to keep everyone safe in this school, we need everyone to come to the Dance competition. There you will watch the dancers and then after the building will be moved to a safer place for a while. Thank you." The head teacher finishes.
Robyn sucks in her breath and then turns to all of us. "The Head Teacher has given me the job of making sure that everyone is in the hall by 2:00. I need you guys to help me track people down!"
"What can we do to help?" Dominic says and Robyn smiles nervously.
"Clover, I need you to use your hearing to check if everyone is either in the hall already or making their way down. Can you do that?" She asks and I nod my head. I see her relax more.
"Then I need you two," she points to Dominic and Oscar, "To find these people and take them to the hall. Your speed and transportation will help us do this quickly." She then turns to Olive. "And Olive you can help me backstage to prepare for my performance.
"Got it!" Olive says excitedly. Robyn nods her head at her.
"Ok. I'm putting my trust in all of you. You have 20 minutes. GO!" Robyn shouts and I watch her and Olive run away towards the center of the hall. I turn around to Dominic who are ready to go.
"So where are we going, Clover?" Dominic says and I listen like I never have before.
********************************
Dominic, Oscar and I, run towards the stage that had been set up in the center of the hall.
We managed to get everyone into the room in only 20 minutes, with 5 minutes to spare. Some people didn't mind being carried towards the hall but other put up a fight until they eventually gave in.
"What time is it?" Oscar asks me, peering over my shoulder. I lift up my watch.
"1:58. Robyn will perform at 2:00 after all the other dancers." I say and look up to watch a girl on stage in a tutu dress. She looks like a fragile girl with red, flaming hair. She lights up the stage with her fire powers and the massive audience watch with awe.
"Oh, she's good." I hear Dominic say behind me and I smirk. She finishes off with a bow and walks off stage. A roaring cheer comes from the audience.
"And, last but not least, we have Robyn, dancing to My Immortal by Evanescence!" The speaker shouts and Robyn come's out from backstage.
She wears a pale white dress, wearing no shoes. Her frizzy hair is flipped to one side of her face and she takes her place in the center of the stage with her back down to the floor.
The song starts with piano chords and the audience goes silent as they watch her move slowly.
I'm so tired of being here
Suppressed by all my childish fears
And if you have to leave
I wish that you would just leave
Cause your presence still lingers here
And it won't leave me alone
We watch her stunning performance as she gradually walks across the dance floor.
These wounds won't seem to heal
This pain is just too real
There's just too much that time cannot erase
The song gets bigger and bigger through every line making the audience wait for it to get bigger. Robyn leaps across the stage and her dress flies across. No one dares to move an inch in the audience.
When you cried I'd wipe away all of your tears
When you'd scream I'd fight away all of your fears
And I held your hand through all of these years
But you still have all of me
The song repeats itself, with the same chords as it was in the beginning. The song has an opening for us to clap for her and we do. Cheers echo against the walls in the room.
You used to captivate me by your resonating light
Now I'm bound by the life you left behind
Your face, it haunts my once pleasant dreams
Your voice, it chased away all the sanity in me
These wounds won't seem to heal
This pain is just too real
There's just too much that time cannot erase
By now, everyone in the crowds is cheering her on as she gets closer and closer to the end. She's starting to look out of breath now but she continues on.
When you cried I'd wipe away all of your tears
When you'd scream I'd fight away all of your fears
And I held your hand through all of these years
But you still have all of me
The slung slows down and she finishes in her starting position on the floor. When everyone realises the song has finished, everyone gets up and applauses her. She smiles at the crowd and walks off.
"She was amazing! Did you know she was that good Clover?" Oscar asks me and I shake my head in a no, still amazed at Robyn's performance. The head teacher walks out, making the room go silent again.
"The building of this school will now be moved to a safe place where the scientists that I mentioned earlier can't reach us. Icantinato macinatin giawani!" The head teacher throws her hands up in the air and the room suddenly goes dark.
I feel a hand gets placed on my shoulder and I wait for the room to go light again. Although we can't see her, I hear the head teacher speak. "Wait a few more seconds." She says.
As if on cue, the windows suddenly shine light into the room, filling up the hall. Everyone breathes a sigh of relief. Some people run up to the windows.
"WE'RE IN A FIELD!" I hear one scream and I take a look through on them myself. And sure enough, all you can see is green grass for miles, with not a single life sign in sight.
"OK relax everyone. We'll wait here until the coast is clear." The teacher says before walking behind the curtains. I notice Robyn and Olive coming out and I run up to them.
"You did amazing Robyn!" I say and hug her tightly. She looks nervous, fiddling with her white dress. "It's fine. We're safe here." I try to reassure her but it doesn't seem to work.
***************
We've been sitting here for nearly two hours. Robyn has just been hunched up in a ball for most of the time, occasionally people coming up to her and saying well done. But she just nods at them and doesn't say anything.
We notice Tiffany, Rebecca, and Mia across the room, looking bored. Rebecca is the only one with a silver medal around her neck and she looks pretty pleased about it.
Suddenly, a ghost-like figure comes out from the floor screaming. Everyone's attention turns to it, including Robyn, who's face looks as white as a sheet. The ghosts hair is everywhere and it has bags under her eyes.
"WHERE IS THAT GIRL?!" It screams, searching around the room. Eventually, its eyes turn to Robyn and it speeds up to her. Robyn looks terrified. "I gave you strict instructions. DO YOU KNOW WHAT YOU'VE DONE!? We're coming for you girl." I watch the scene unfold beside me.
Robyn hunches back away from the ghost but it keeps pressing forward against her face.
But then the attention of the ghost turns towards me and Olive. Her eyes pop out of her face. "YOU LITTLE RATS HAVE BEEN HELPING HER, HAVENT YOU?!" She screams in our faces. I wince.
"Stop it! Get away from out school!" I hear the head teacher say and then ghost returns to the center of the room.
"I see. Don't worry Robyn. We'll come back for you. And when we do, YOU'RE DEAD!" It shouts and then disappears.
"Robyn? What did that ghost mean?"
