"What about school?" Lorna asked Daryl as she finished off the last of unevenly cooked beans.
He shrugged. "Still have to go but you stay in my sight at all times. They might wait outside for us. So we will have to arrive early and leave late." Daryl said.
Lorna nodded. "Alright but what if the teachers ask questions? What if my Dad has told them I've gone missing?" She asked, concerned.
"I already told you. They won't involve any authorities, they won't tell anyone we are missing because If they do, they will only be the ones getting into trouble."
"So why don't we just go to the police ourselves?" She asked confused.
"Because then they will put us into the foster care system. Do you want that?" He asked looking directly at her.
She pulled a face and shook her head.
"Exactly. We can do this." He said reassuringly.
"But what about when we run out of money? What if we do make it through the rest of school without them finding us?" She asked.
"I've already sorted everything, okay? Please trust me." He said as he reached out to take her hand but retracted it and sighed.
She noticed his hesitation so she reached out and took his hand. "I trust you." She whispered.
He smiled and squeezed her hand. "Good because I ain't going to let anything bad happen to you again." He said as he entwined their fingers together.
The night was cold even under the many blankets but they got through it. Daryl woke them early and showed Lorna to a creek. The water wasn't the cleanest and it was colder than the house at night but it was good enough to clean in with plenty of soap.
They washed together in their underwear quickly before drying off and changing.
"Wish I could dry my hair properly. It's going to be curly." Lorna sighed as they walked back to the house.
"You look fine, don't worry about it."
She smiled. "I'll try not too."
They arrived at school before majority of the teachers had turned up.
They made their way to the back of the school and kept hidden away from prying eyes outside the school and from the teachers.
"Are you going to be okay?" Daryl asked as he walked Lorna to her first lesson of the day.
She nodded.
"Wait out here for me and I'll walk you to your next lesson, okay?"
"You don't have to-"
"I do and I will, promIse you will wait."
"I promise." She whispered.
"Good, I-I'll see you in an hour."
She wasn't sure why but Lorna didn't want him to leave. She could feel the tears forming in her eyes as she fought of the urge to tell him not to leave.
"Come here." He whispered and pulled her into a hug, seemingly able to tell she was having an internal struggle with herself.
She held onto him tightly as she hugged back.
"One hour, okay?" He whispered.
She nodded. "One hour." She repeated before they finally pulled away.
She watched him walk down the corridor, he briefly glanced back before turning the corner.
It was definitely not going to be an easy day for the pair.
The entire first period had been a disaster, both teens had been told off numerous times for not concentrating and both knew that it could easily lead to a call home which they definitely didn't want.
However, neither could concentrate, both too worried about what would could happen to the other, what their futures will be like, whether they would be able to have a normal life without the fear of their fathers coming to find them, forever haunting their daily thoughts.
At the end of first period Lorna waited outside her classroom for Daryl but after ten minutes, the corridor was empty and Daryl was nowhere to be found.
"Shouldn't you be in class?" A teacher asked sternly.
"Y-yes, sorry sir." She stuttered before walking off quickly to her next class.
Daryl had been held back after his class by his teacher. She was curious as to why he wasn't concentrating, even less than he usually did. He had lied and said he hadn't been feeling well. On top of that, his class was at the complete opposite side of the school from Lorna's. When he arrived at her class she was nowhere to be seen, he knew she had probably left and gone to her next class but he couldn't help but worry slightly. Luckily his second class of the day was just a corridor away from Lorna's.
Second period was very much like the first, both teens were to busy worrying about the other to concentrate on their school work.
Thankfully when Lorna stepped out of her class Daryl was there to greet her.
She let out a relieved breath and ran towards him, wrapping ever arms around his neck and hugging him tightly. He brought his arms around her waist and laughed slightly at how overjoyed he was to see her walk out of the classroom.
"I'm sorry I didn't get there in time.
Dumb bitch kept me back for not concentrating." He whispered as he held her.
"It's okay.." She replied.
They heard someone wolf whistle from beside them. When they broke apart they turned and came face to face with Shane Walsh and Rick Grimes.
"Well, well, well...I didn't know you had it in you." Shane said grinning at Daryl.
Lorna stepped behind Daryl's lightly as she watched the interaction.
"What do you want Shane?" Daryl asked.
"Wondered if you wanted to come to a party tonight. Andrea from the year above has invited almost everybody." Shane explained.
"No thanks." Daryl scoffed.
"Oh come on it'll be fun." Shane smirked. "Be tonnes of girls there."
"I don't care." Daryl spat.
"Can't you see he has a girl?" Rick said nudging Shane.
"Isn't she sixteen though?" Shane asked frowning.
"Yeah, so?" Daryl snapped. "I'm less than a year older than her same with you, we ain't dating any ways."
Shane eyed Lorna up and down, making her shift uncomfortably under her gaze. He scoffed and his face contorted in disgust.
"I don't give a damn what you think." Daryl snapped. "What happens between me and Lorna ain't any of your business."
"Shane just leave it. Can't force him to come with us." Rick said.
Shane scoffed. "Right well you keep playing with the kids, while we have proper fun."
"She's almost the same age as us." Daryl snapped.
"You sure? She looks like a kid, flat chested and all... Be careful Daryl, you might get locked up for being a cradle snatcher." Shane laughed.
Daryl went to lunge at Shane but Lorna held him back.
"Stop drawing attention to yourself. We don't need phone calls home." She whispered into his ear.
He nodded and took a hold of her wrist and walked away from Shane and Rick angrily, muttering all kinds of things to himself.
